Hey all! Let me just preface this by saying, I know you guys work your asses off here. Quite a few years back, I was a staff member on a Pokemon site that was around this size. All that pressure and responsibility weighed down on me like a gravity chamber. Eventually, I just straight up left the site because I couldn't handle it all. So please, don't take this as a form of impatience, or a slight against the staff. You guys are great, and I know first hand how much work it is to volunteer your time and effort on what's largely a thankless job.
Now that that's out of the way, onto the meat and potatoes of this post. From my perspective as a newcomer, I feel like the time it takes to get an application looked at, altered, and approved, takes far too long. I look around at the current character app section, and most threads seem to sit around un-responded to for over a week. Then in some rare cases like with #912, it's been over two weeks since he got his last response, and over a month since the application first went up. I can understand if you have the plans of weeding out the certain impatient 13 year olds who are naturally attracted to DB sites, but that's a lot of patience to ask of anyone.
Now, you guys are obviously overloaded with work and I understand and respect that, but my suggestion? If you're abrasive towards adding new staff, then make Ayumu a junior mod tasked specifically with handling newbies and their apps.
Ayumu is probably one of the most helpful people I've come across on this site as a newbie. He's always in the cbox, he's always friendly and kind, and he's always eager to help, and easy to reach for questions about the site. From my short week or so of being here (+time spent lurking before joining), I've personally seen him help and advise at least a dozen people on their characters, including myself. From my point of view, he's basically already WoDS' babysitter, just without title to prove it.
Overall, I feel like this would lessen the stress placed on mods, while also being beneficial to just about everyone else. So, thoughts? Pitchforks? Crucifixions? I'm eager to see your responses!

I'm fine with and have advocated for adding more volunteers to work the grading, we just haven't yet made a new vehicle for volunteer selection that we can all agree upon.
As an aside, I'll be working a lot more reasonable hours in a couple of weeks, so I should be able to rise back into old form at least partially.

I second this notion. Perhaps having a title for "Junior mod" (obviously a placeholder), with them being able to do smaller things like grading characters, but not larger full staff things. I dunno, just a thought.

I third the notion. Ayumu has been very helpful. Heck, his character as a mentor even helped Sangu before. I'm sure he'd be very helpful as a junior mod or what not.

Hey let me start this off by sincerely apologizing for the slow down on character applications. That is mostly on me, Ive been struggling with my new class and work schedule so I havent really found a groove yet to find time to dedicate to the site and I am deeply sorry.
As for the suggestion of Old Man being involved with staff Im going to have to express my disapproval. Due to a few instances of questionable behaviour in the cbox I feel like Old Man isnt exactly suited to help grade and moderate the forum. Not to mention his spotty activity. When it comes to staff and moderation I kinda feel like it should be a "don't come to us we'll come to you" set up when it comes to being involved.
Thats just my 2 cents

What Nicolas says is true. There are matters that, even I've seen, prevent any approval for Ayumu/Old Man at the current time. We need to see that the people already have a good understanding of the forum's ways, and see that they are capable of handling the experiences that comes with staffing.

Unfortunately, I must fourth the disapproval. We've gone over certain areas, OM and I, and I still feel he needs improvement in a lot of areas and I personally feel he may not be able to be objective with certain grades (i.e: bringing a person down if they need serious improvement).
If we find someone whom can assist our team, we usually inform that person but I do appreciate the offer to help the staff team!

Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed, but you guys have been here for a lot longer than I have so I can't really challenge your decision. I hope that this thread at least opened up some new discussions on the subjects, and that you still may consider Ayumu in the future. I do still strongly believe that he would make a great addition to the staff.

Being a mod isn't "Wow this guy is popular. He should be one." It takes careful thought and consideration, reason why we usually only take serious volunteers or pick out others ourselves.
You can be disappointed all you want, won't really change my answer though.

i'm gonna give me tidbit. I don't know the old man that much so i can agree really choice a side but i do think we need more mods. I understand everyone is busy, but at least for me, when grading is about three weeks behind that a little crazy. Not saying you guys are not trying hard enough, i respect and admire your work but it going very slow and for some people that can prove to be very frustrating. Now i don't really know who would make a good mod or admin to be honest that is not strength. I just hope we can make grading faster. Though once again, all the mods and admins have done a great job. Sorry if i am a little off topic but that just how i see it less things to grade= more happy people= less stress= Everyone can relax.

I mean, I hate to be "that guy" but general grades dont stop you from rping so I dont get where the frustration comes from. I can totally sympathize with new character apps taking a while but you can still progress and play even if theres a delay on your rewards...

Eh, don't know if it's my place to say anything, but we seriously don't need anymore mods. While it can be helpful to get someone on board, we're not really in a dire situation for throwing people on board. T2G is running at a decent pace in my opinion, can't really add anything onto character apps pace because I don't really look into that, and shop threads are running smoothly as well. And as for the OM thing, I'm gonna have to agree with the others on him not going for mod for the points they exactly stated. He's a good guy, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he's moderator material. Anyways, everything stated in this post is just my take on things.
