Vi-Poi

Appearance: Short and slender, with a mousy aura, this azure-haired android has pale skin and large blue eyes. His body is limber and lanky, and he often wears cheap black suits that hang a bit too large on his slight frame, giving him his nickname. Under this unassuming frame is the durable steel-and-circuits skeleton of an android, the pinnacle of ancient Red Ribbon materials technology. Now that Vi-Poi's missions pit him against some of the Galaxy's strongest, he has shed his corporate clothing and taken on a unique suit of dark battle armor, Dimhault.


Personality: He searches the dark alleyways and the deepest wilds for old and powerful magic. Much of his magical knowledge comes from these searches, a testament to his aptitude for learning the art and to his voracious hunger for arcane knowledge. He also is dedicated to mastering ki energy, his learning algorithms constantly being fine-tuned and tweaked. Finding Namekians and other species with magical affinity especially appealing, he often will seek out their company and lore. Admiring efficiency, Vi-Poi is highly competitive, and willing to do whatever it takes to gain greater power and to equip greater systems, though this appetite is often tempered by an inhuman innocence as well as his energetic and very human adolescent humor, which upon close examination may hide a lingering sadness. To the Black Magic Android, the ends often justify the means.


History: Vi-Poi wasn't always a magic-hunting android. His origins lie in the birth of a boy named Poi to a wealthy family in the metropolis of West City. Poi was trained for fighting, attending an offshoot the Turtle School of martial arts, where he showed middling promise. He often explored the seedier sections of the City in his youthful adventuring. His fate would be turned however when he fell through a sewer grate in the slums and tumbled deep into an ancient Red Ribbon Army bunker. He had yet to learn the art of Bukujutsu, and try as he might he could not escape the deep well of stone and circuitry he found himself in. Much of the computers and technology in the bunker were centuries dead, but a few of the devices still worked -- strange capsules fit for humanoid bodies that slid open silently when approached. Without food and water, Poi climbed into a capsule, hoping to access some sort of communication equipment and get word to the surface. The capsule slid closed as soon as he stepped inside it, and an icy gel suspended him in a coma, paralyzing his body. This old and rusted Red Ribbon capsule would be his prison.

During his long sleep, Poi was unable to make contact with the outer world. His family grew old and died without him, always wondering where and why he disappeared. Although Poi was trapped, he was not alone. He was able to interact with Red Ribbon's defunct and broken computer mainframe. He tried to reason with the mainframe, explain that he needed to go home and be with his family, even argued and screamed at it for his freedom. The machine was sympathetic, but unable to resolve the situation, as many of its systems were irreparably damaged. In an attempt to placate the boy, the machine gave him access to virtual files of extraordinary nature. While much of the files on specific events or people were damaged or corrupted, including the capsule's own controls, Poi was able to learn much about general subjects such as ki manipulation, as well as magic, demons, the Makyo Star, and ancient information on the Dragon Balls and the Namekian magic which created them. He studied these files intensely, and became a sort of friend with the mainframe's intelligence -- as much as boy can befriend a machine. A machine may live forever, but a human may not. No longer able to access its fading life-support functions, the machine frantically watched its only friend in the world die. Poi was gone.

Over a process of months, the machine labored obsessively to recreate the boy, its friend. It poured the last of its precious energy reserves into the project, and accessed files on android construction that had laid dormant for millennia. Old gears whizzed to life, and the last capsule filled with a metallic liquid, which began intensifying into a body. A self-sustaining energy reactor was created for its heart using designs drawn by Red Ribbon's brightest minds. The skeleton was made out of the sturdiest metals the system could harness. As the android construction ended its final phase, the machine found that it no longer had access to processor construction and brain simulation files, which were irreparably corrupted by the long march of time. Poi's dear friend, the Red Ribbon mainframe, made a fateful decision. It used its own personality, mingled with Poi's own brain-wave records and memories, and hoisted all of this combined information into a new artificial intelligence matrix. It was a leap of faith.

Virtual - Poi was forged.

Vi-Poi found that his new body was completely functional, and his mind was keener and sharper than ever, augmented by Poi's neural patterns. Better even, as knowledge from his time interacting with the boy gave him honed ki manipulation and the beginnings of magical knowledge. On the day of his creation, he flew out of the bunker, out of the hole, leaving the empty husk of his old mainframe and a mutual prison behind. He arrived in West City, determined to tell Poi's family what had occurred, but found that everyone Poi had known was dead and gone.

In his despair he now trains hard to expand his energies, and to learn as much magic as possible, so that one day he might discover the secret magic behind the Dragon Balls and the Three Wishes, and bring the boy and his family and friends back to life. He will do whatever it takes to survive and thrive, giving him a morally grey lens to view the world.
