When it comes to maxing out your gains, nothing beats a pair of heavy weights. In fact, the longer you delay in gathering the zeni to get them the less effective overall you are being with the amount of work you are putting in to getting your character towards mid-tier.
Light weights provide a somewhat useful ability in that it only reduces your pl by a fourth, which can be negligible depending on what transformations you start with. More often times than not though, they are purchased by players who don't want to wait to get the heavy weights due to issues with patience or some misunderstanding of how much better heavy weights are.
So basically what i'd like to have considered is giving these puppies up to every member for free (although we would just add them through a shop request to existing accounts that want them), and 0ing out their price. That way even if someone is going to make the (what in my opinion is a bad) choice they won't be as heavily penalized by the system.
As an alternative we could make weights just cost one set amount and remove the two counterparts that are much less effective, and allow the players to scale between 25/50/75 as appropriate to the bonus/detriment they want to take on for said thread. This would help to make sure new players aren't being punished as much by the system for lack of meta knowledge.

Yup heavy weights are good to use which is why I have them on in my solos 😊. Everyone should invest the money in getting a pair!

Free light weights/making weights able to be adjusted between the three tiers would be a great way to have folks have more control over their gains, allowing also for folks to artificially lower their pl to designated amounts in even serious situations and still benefit.
As long as users with tier 1 or 2 weights who recently bought them are compensated, I see no problems whatsoever for such a plan.

I am opposed to free light weights, but mid-thread adjustable weights would be cool. It's like if Goku were to take his weighted shirt off, but kept his weights boots and wristbands on. I think keeping the current three items and adding a fourth, slightly more expensive option that's adjustable might work.

I'd say do the latter, make one item called "Weights" that has the price of Heavy Weights but can be adjusted to any level.

I agree with Bing in the way that we should have adjustable weights that can be changed mid-thread. That would be pretty cool.

I dont really see the harm in giving light weights to everyone, so I'm gonna stand behind what Fleece proposed, it seems like a solid idea in my opinion.

I'm with Fleece on this one! I'm also with Bing! These are both pretty good ideas that could both be implemented tbh

Modular weights is an interesting idea. It'd also be easier on the automated plugin, if we made them groups that players could toggle individually, should we ever choose to implement it.

Why not make a free version of light weights that give less experience? Like, you're making weights out of whatever scrap materials are around (rocks and rope, bits of metal, etc.), so it's not quite perfect. These aren't objects that were DESIGNED to be weights attached to clothes. As such, they don't quite work as well, despite weighing about as much. Meanwhile, the ones you pay for ARE proper weights or properly sewn into the clothes. They give the full experience gain because they are objects MEANT to be used as training weights.

+1 for modular weights. They're streamlined, more easily fluffable, and generally nicer to work with.

Gonna throw my hat in the ring for modular weights. Sounds like the best possible option.

Hmm... Basically seeing no for free light weights, but a new discussion for the modular weights is opening up! I will make a new thread for this item to be discussed.
