"Enough power," Polar said, and for a moment sat quietly.
"Remember the commander I mentioned? Taiga was his name. Circumstances beyond our control brought us together, but he inspired a great deal of respect. He was a good man, don't get me wrong, but he said some things that I still find unbelievable. Though I believed it enough to spare a Saiyan. Don't get me wrong kid, but I don't trust the Saiyans. I suppose you wouldn't understand, being a human."
Polar sighed.
"He told me some sort of mumbo-jumbo about the Arcosians once being conquerors and tyrants like that Queen of theirs. I don't care to believe it, but I somehow see sense in it."

Polar spoke of a man named Taiga. The way he spoke of him was quite interesting. He clearly had a great deal of respect for the man, but he sounded almost forlorn. What had happened for him to spare a Saiyan? And more importantly, he called Raisu a human.
“Wow. This Taiga sounds like a great guy,” said Raisu, nodding his respects, “Also, I’m half-Saiyan, you know. So I kind of understand how they think. It’s scary. The bloodlust, it just kind of overtakes you. You lose control and you just want to fight.”
Raisu sighed as well. He knew that all too well. Polar spoke of conquers past, and how his race had once been such a race. Interesting. How the mighty have fallen, it seems.
“So, I guess we both have the blood of warlords in us.”
Raisu gave a kind of lopsided grin at this. Funny how circumstances of birth gave them such blood. They hadn't asked for it, of course, but that was the hand of cards fate had dealt them.

“You’re a Saiyan?” Polar asked inquisitively. There was slight suspicion in his voice, but he had already told the boy too much already to back down from his story.
Of course. That belt...it’s a tail.
He looked under the boy’s pink jacket and sighted the furry belt neatly tied along his waist.
Polar exhaled, and tried to forget it, or at least tolerate it. After all, the kid was by no means evil. In fact, he questioned the Saiyan’s aggressive nature as much as he. But even he said that it was sometimes something beyond his control.
“Taiga was indeed a good man,” Polar went on, moving on from the topic of the Saiyan, “I’d follow him in battle anywhere.”
Blood of warlords? You don't know the half of it...
He paused for a moment. On the topic of Taiga, Polar kicked himself for following Taiga’s orders, even if he knew that the man was right. He wanted to stay and fight at the battle. But in the end, he knew the costs even if he hated abandoning Kanassa. If Polar died there, the Arcosians would’ve been wiped out completely and had no fighting chance against the Saiyans. Then the light bulb lit up. How could he allow himself to become so strayed from his goal? Of course, with all that had been occurring, it wasn't surprising to him that he was unable to keep up with all the events that have taken place.
Earth was a rare gem for sure, but from what he'd seen, the Earthlings were fierce defenders. It was so different from when Polar met Hakuri there years ago. Earthlings were weak. The cannon fodder of the galaxy. But now, they had defeated the mightiest empire to roam to Earth. How? Polar couldn't say. Even with Polar's help, in self-defense or otherwise, his power was only marginal compared to the titans he'd seen. The blue-haired android, the strange witch-like menace, and the Super Saiyan dwarfed even Polar's full power. It was incredible, and terrifying. For a while, Polar thought Hakuri had meant for him to defend this planet. But then something changed his thinking.
Destiny will find you, he remembered Hakuri always saying.
For so long, he had been puzzled by that riddle, but now it finally made sense. There was no doubt in his mind anymore. His destiny was not on Earth, but it was always at home. The Arcosian Empire. He had to rebuild it. That was why he met Taiga. That was why he survived Kanassa.
“Kid, I don’t think this planet is too kind for me, nor am I too great for it. Trouble seems to always have a way of finding me. I’m an outsider here.”
“Kid…” paused Polar yet again, “I doubt you could understand, but I need to return home. To Arcose; or whatever remains of it.”

Had Polar not known he was a Saiyan? Surprising. Raisu usually thought it was obvious, but the hair did throw some people off. But he didn’t hide the tail, usually. Well, it didn’t matter. Perhaps he was just distracted during their earlier meeting. He could hardly blame Polar. Things were hectic when they first met. Did that change the way Polar thought of him? After all, the Saiyans had destroyed his nation. But Raisu knew how that felt, too. His home planet had just been invaded. By those he shared blood with, of course. That was the hard part. Had his father been among the invaders? Probably not. His father had never been one for responsibilities, by what his mother had said.
He spoke of Taiga again. He’d follow him anywhere? Interesting. At least he had someone like that. Could Raisu say the same? No, not really. Few people had his loyalty like that. He had friends and those he liked, but few who inspired him to follow. Raisu went his own way by nature. That was how he’d always been. Perhaps there was a leader like that out there somewhere that could inspire such things in Raisu. But he’d yet to meet them.
Polar spoke again. Of trouble. Of being an outside. He could never be at peace here, could he? It just wasn’t his home. Raisu felt a twinge of empathy and sadness. Poor guy. He had nothing left, did he? Life must be rough. Raisu’s heart went out to him. Polar even wanted to go home.
“I understand what you mean. It’s like when I had to go see South Capitol fall. You need that closure.”

"It's not about closure," Polar corrected him, "It's about fulfilling my vow to an old friend."
Polar looked into the fire, and looked up at Raisu. It was full of sympathy for the Arcosian, but he didn't want it. He didn't need pity. He wasn't a wounded animal.
"I know I haven't been the best guest, kid," went on the alien, "But thank you."
He really did mean it. The halfling was incredibly hospitable and kind. It was almost unimaginable.
"Kid, I won't ask you to come along with me, but I need help getting off this world and you're the only one I can turn to," Polar began, "Listen, if you help me get a ship, I might be able to teach you a thing or two."

So Polar had a promise to fulfill. Raisu nodded. He could understand that. It was important to keep promises. Raisu knew that much himself. He had plenty of promises he wanted to keep. But to go back to a ruined planet for it? Raisu admired Polar for it. He was certainly impressive, to go that far. The Arcosian thanked him, saying he hadn't been the best guest. Raisu simply wanted to say that there had been worst guests lately, but he didn't want to interrupt.
Polar asked for his help in getting a ship. Possibly Raisu could help him. Hell, he could fix that right now, thinking of the capsule sitting in his jacket pocket. And besides, he was interested in what Polar had to teach.
"Sure, I'd love to help. I mean, if you really want, I'll lend you my spacepod."

"If only it were so simple"
Polar stood up and looked down at the kid.
"Arcose space isn't what it used it be. I can't just waltz in. More than likely,it's under the vanguard of the Saiyans or swarmed by pirates. Maybe both, when you take into account how the Saiyan empire. I'm not taking the chance of getting a spacepod hijacked. No, I will need something capable of surviving the trip. A ship, if you will."
Maybe the Blue Banner Army can provide...
He sighed, and paused, closing his eyes. For a moment, he forgot Raisu was there and began to coordinate his plan.
"I'll need help too," mumbled the Arcosian in a hushed, but still audible tone.
His mind flashed to the androids of the Blue Banner Army, but Polar scratched the idea. Helping him with travel was one thing, but he certainly doubted the Earthlings, being as isolated as they were, would care to venture beyond their borders even for retaliation.
There might have been Arcosians that took refuge on this world, but even if they made it, the chances of them had surviving the Saiyan rampage that followed were slim. Heck, even if they did survive, if the Saiyans couldn't find them, how better could Polar fare?
The thought of the Saiyan onslaught got his blood boiling again, but he managed to calm himself after a few deep exhales. Even if he hate the Saiyans collectively no more, he still held outrage for their crimes. The prejudice and mistrust was still in his heart. It was simply a part of him. But blind hatred, however, was long gone.
Saiyan.
That word made him turn to Raisu. For a moment, Polar seriously considered the possibility of the Halfling coming along.
No. He's just a child, thought the conflicted Arcosian, But he managed to fare well against that android. Perhaps he would be an asset?

The Arcosian refused his offering. Not that Raisu blamed him. He gave good reasons for it. Hell, he was probably right. The space was probably writhe with danger at this time. Somehow, Raisu doubted the Saiyan Empire instilled much law in the places they conquered. They didn’t seem the type. Especially when they were so brutal in their takeover of the Arcosian space. Raisu thought back to the Saiyan queen’s broadcast. Yes, she seemed the type to set fire to things and let someone else clean up the ashes later. It had not been long since the fall of Arcose. He didn’t think anyone would have come along and cleaned up yet.
Polar mentioned needing help. Raisu could do that! He could easily go with the Arcosian to Arcose space and help him keep his promise. Raisu opened his mouth, ready to answer. But then a thought struck him. He couldn’t leave Earth. Not while Saiyans ran amok. He couldn’t abandon his home while it still might in the way of harm.
“I’d go with you,” Raisu began, “But I think it might be best if I stick around here. It’s my home, you know, and I need to be ready for something happening.”
He felt a little bad. He did like Polar. It was just that Earth was important to him.
“Though I can try and help you get the spaceship if you want.”

Polar nodded. He wouldn't deny the kid's help if he wanted to, and he well understood that the kid might not want to leave this world. Helping the Arcosian obtain a ship was well enough help.
"I would suggest finding this 'Blue Banner Army'," the Arcosian continued, "We're not on the best terms and I hardly expect them to help merely out of the goodness of their hearts, so I would need to gain their trust."
He began to walk toward the forest, pulling the hood of his poncho over his horned head.
"In the meantime, I need to sharpen my senses."
With his cold icy blue eyes, he looked back at Raisu out of the corner of his eye.
"If you care to join me, I'm sure you'll be able to find me. Do what you will."
He was obviously hinting at Raisu's power to sense Ki, which the Saiyan-halfling used to find him in the first place.
The Arcosian continued walking, not awaiting Raisu to response and flew off into the distance. He still had his cold demeanor. That wouldn't change. It was as part of him as his horns or the bluish tint of his skin. But he was much more welcoming than before, and that was something.

The Blue Banner Army? An interesting choice. How would they respond to an Arcosian asking for help? It'd certainly be a fun conversation to sit in on. It already played out in his head. The two parties sitting around a table, looking at each other stone faced. And then someone from the Blue Banner Army simply looks at Polar and says, 'But why?'
Polar was probably right that he would need to gain their trust. Times were tough on Earth and Raisu imagined aliens were not in the circle of trust. Well, best of luck to him. Raisu wasn't sure how he could help here.
But Raisu did perk his ears at the mention of Polar sharpening his senses. Now that was something Raisu could help with. Rais could probably give the Arcosian quite the workout. Polar said Raisu would be able to find him if he chose to join him. Raisu nodded. He would.
"Count on it, Polar."
And Raisu watched as the blue alien disappeared into the night.
(That's it for me. PL with heavy weights bonus, please.)
