History:
Raisu is the product of a misguided, short-lived union between an Earthling office secretary and a vagrant Saiyan, with whom Raisu shares his given name. Raisu's father came to Earth in his travels between planets. In one were to only ever meet Raisu's father and use him as the basis for all Saiyans, one would have a very lowly opinion of the Saiyan race. Raisu's father was considered a failure in most regards. As a warrior, he was unskilled. Yes, in his brief time before leaving service for good, his father served with no particular distinctions. In fact, he most often numbered among those wounded severely in battle. And some may see this as a benefit, for the zenkai must surely be of some benefit to him. Well, it was, to some degree. Raisu's father was already what one might consider a genetic failure. As his peak, his power level may have just barely broken 800. Yes, he truly was something of a whipping boy among Saiyans. So he left, traveling the stars, before eventually ending up on Earth. While there, he made full use of his one true strength: he was particularly handsome, eventually falling in with a secretary named Yuka Hanamura. The two's relationship was doomed to fail, his father's inherently violent nature being an issue, but Raisu came to be somehow. Raisu was born some time later, and he may be considered the tipping point in their relationship. His father left roughly a year after he was born, after telling Yuka that this wasn't the life he wanted. It did not help that Raisu's father's past had come to bear down on him, like a heavy burden. Ultimately, his father could not help but add another shortcoming to his list. He stepped out of his role as a father, leaving his son behind, leaving Yuka with one piece of advice: don't let him see the full moon.
This leaves Raisu and his mother alone in a small apartment in one of Earth's cities, and it isn't exactly easy for them to get by, but somehow they do, with a little outside aid from family. And things got easier still when Raisu was finally old enough to begin his schooling, and it was his first real chance to interact with other children, his mother mostly keeping him inside for fear he might have inherited his father's tendencies. Though she loved her son, part of her was afraid for what he might be. He was a somewhat unruly child at home, but could she risk sending him to school like that? As it turns out, she had no choice, and simply made him tuck his tail into his pants. As it turns out, Raisu did to some degree, inherit more than a tail from his father. He did well enough in school, but his record was marred by behavioral issues, such as his disregard for teachers or the occasional fights with other students. In truth, he was something of a bully as a child, even if he was a bit smaller than the other children, he was stronger and fiercer. It culminated in one large fight when he was ten years old, that led to a week's suspension from school. Some would say that he got off easy, but his mother gave him hell. In fact, she said one thing that has stuck with him since: "You're just like your father". And he had no response for that, but to hang his head in shame as he slunk away to his room, where his mother had grounded him to for the week. And that is where he stayed for some time, reflecting what he'd done, and more importantly, what his mother had said. She never spoke of his father, though he'd been able to piece bits of it together. Like that he had been a Saiyan. That one, at least, was obvious. And that they'd fought. Very much so. Probably why he wasn't around still, damn him. How could he just leave, Raisu thought. He struck at the wall, hard, and his fist went through the dry wall. Maybe one day he'd find his father and put a fist through his chest. He went to bed early that night, still seething.
As fate would have it, Raisu was still not incredibly obedient. In anger, he rebelled against the perceived unfairness of it all. After all, by his account of events, he'd only been standing up for himself. Though, as previously mentioned, Raisu had the habit of causing problems. Still, he left the apartment as his mother worked, with an intent to run away from home. At ten years old, this might not be the best choice, but it was his choice regardless. And as a child, even a child of Saiyan blood, he only made it ten blocks. He was a child of many emotions, and while anger was one of his primary ones, fear also overtook him. He'd been rather sheltered up until this point, and the thought of being alone on a strange city block terrified him. So he sat there, at the corner of two streets, waiting for his mother to find him. Except she didn't. Another woman found him, a woman with graying hair and sharp eyes, and a small, all knowing smile. She stood beside him, spoke to him, tried to soothe him, and when that didn't work, she dragged him back to her tea shop by his ear and fed him until he stopped crying, and got Raisu to tell her his story.
This woman was Tsu Kini, and she quickly became a central figure in Raisu's life. He remembered that day, as she explained to him the concepts of ki and manipulating it. She'd dabbled once, that she did. Thought she might try and play hero, but as she explained, that doesn't always work out. She didn't have the natural talent for it, but she'd still learned a bit. Such as how to sense ki signatures in others, and hide herself from others who might have such an ability. She even showed Raisu a small trick she'd learned, creating a small ball of energy in the palm of her hand and shooting it across the room. And that stuck a chord within Raisu, looking at it with bright eyed disbelief. He asked her to teach him, nay, he demanded she teach him. And she promptly refused, saying she wouldn't not teach such a rude little boy. He pouted and begged until she relented, saying that so long as he promised to be good, she might. He smirked and promised. In that moment, he probably would have promised anything to learn, but he didn't have any intention of following through.
Instead, Tsu Kini had to beat the bad out of him. Over the course of the next two years, there was very little ki teaching, but a great deal of life lessons. Such as the virtues of being kind to others, and defending the weak instead of picking on them. About the need for respect when dealing with other people. At first, he resisted. But when one has these lessons blasted at them over and over, they take their toll, and eventually they won over. Tsu was finally satisfied, and they began training in earnest.
This continued for years, and along the way, Raisu also took up martial arts at a local dojo. Within the walls, he found that the art of the fight appealed to his nature and that it felt almost natural to him. Perhaps he'd gained more from his Saiyan blood than he had thought.
And finally, on the day of Raisu's 18th birthday, Tsu announced that she had taught him all she could, and she laughed when she admitted Raisu had actually surpassed her meager talents a long while ago. She was just hoping to guide him into growing up into an upstanding young man, and she thought she had succeeded in that. Raisu was now a much calmer man, one who could smile and get along with people, instead of butting heads. True, he still had a bit of fire in him, but that was just his nature, and he made a conscious effort to restrain himself and make amends with those he'd hurt in the past. In a way, he was a new person. From angry, disrespectful kid with a penchant for violence, to collected, nice young man, whose anger and tongue only occasionally slipped away from him. And perhaps he was even a little braver than the kid who tried to run away from home. This time, as he loaded all his possessions into a bag and boarded a bus for the next city over, he actually got somewhere. This time, he walked his own path, because he felt a desire to see the world and grow past the little apartment he and his mother had shared. Was he like his father? More than he'd like to be. But, he still a had a long way to go.
But life is not quite that simple. It was not long before the Blue Banner Army brought peace to Earth, a noble goal in itself, as Raisu saw it. As a backpacker, going from city to city, it was always interesting to see how people reacted. He saw some disgust, some joy, and a little bit of disregard, but so long as things were peaceful, it was okay, right? Well, it was. Until the destruction of Namek. That had left a lump in his chest. All those people, wiped out. It didn't sit well with him. He'd wanted to go to Namek one day. In fact, he wanted to travel to a lot of places. Maybe see Vegeta. That would be nice, he thought. He'd never met anybody else with Saiyan blood. As he heard, they were quite the people, and when he'd heard they'd gone to war, something stirred within his chest, like a desire to fight. Perhaps not their battles, but just in general. Was it in his blood? Tales of war always caught his ear, and stories of battles past were his favorites. Perhaps even participate in one of those galactic tournaments he'd heard about. And though it would probably end with him in the dirt, he still wanted to try his hand.
So now, he bides his time, keeping a low profile and training in secret, all the while he travels Earth, doing oddjobs for cash. And each night when the full moon doesn't shine, he finds himself looking up at the stars.
