The sun beat down mercilessly on the hot sands with its scorching rays. There weren’t many forms of life that thrived in such an environment. There was almost nothing but sand and rocks as far as the eye could see. After all, it was a desert. Nai-Ran, on the other hand, found it rather comfortable. The intense heat reminded her of home. The serpentine off-worlder had managed to find a rocky outcropping near the desert outskirts with a fairly deep cave. It was awfully rustic compared to what she was used to, but would do nicely for at least a temporary shelter during her stay on this new planet. The girl hadn’t really been expecting any different. She wasn’t here for a vacation, after all.
There was a large, flat, smooth stone just outside of the cave’s entrance. It seemed perfect for napping since it had been baking in the sun all day. That was exactly what Nai-Ran had been doing for the past half an hour. Perhaps it wasn’t the most productive use of her time, but she had gotten quite a bit accomplished so far. Her shelter was all taken care of. She had already retrieved her space pod from the grassy field in which she had landed and stored it in back of cave. She wasn’t too terribly far from one of this planet’s greener areas, and while still iffy on which plants were or weren’t safe to consume, there were plenty of animals living off the vegetation that she could hunt until she figured it out.
The young Ryashi woman rolled from her back and onto her stomach. A yawn escaped her as her eyes opened slightly. Nai-Ran spotted a small rodent skitter around the edge of the large stone, enjoying the shade. She would have snatched the critter right out of the sand had she not eaten her fill while out and about earlier. Now that she thought about it, rodents of varying sizes had been the only life she had seen so far on this planet. Nai-Ran still had no idea if there were any civilized natives. Hell, she didn’t even know this planet’s name.
The young woman sighed as she continued to watch the tiny creature. The elders in charge of picking the planet she was to be sent to wouldn’t pick one so primitive, would they? Surely it was just a matter of looking around a bit more. Tomorrow she would have to do some more exploring in between the hunting and training sessions she had planned. Nai-Ran outstretched her arm and wiggled fingers at the small rodent near the rock, watching as it took off across the desert.

Diablo Desert. The hottest place in the world. After what happened to her at the tournament at the Budokai Tenkaichi young Houri Senda felt she should cross it and thus found herself wandering up to a post office at the edge of the desert. The last place to rest for hundreds of miles, if you were stupid enough to walk in the wrong direction. But the four foot three inch tall blond haired girl was not about to let the desert stop her. She had a white and pink sweater, a short black skirt, and purple stocks with tall black boots. On her head was a lovely golden hair band and two small white flowers.
She could not remember how long it had been since the tourney but after she left she changed her attire yet again so as not to be recognized by potentially still terrified citizens. They might mistake her for one of the tourney's many attackers. She kept her head low as she passed the post office with her fanny pack clipped to her waist filled with a water bottle and a new deadly chakram she bought from a weapons store on the way out of the city. This one was made of much harder metal and she would need it for her travels back home to bamboo forest.
The issue was though, "Could she make it?" she pondered as she trudged along. Diablo Desert was famous for tiring the most hardy warriors and Houri was not wearing the best of travel clothes. In fact the sweater shirt was sure to help put her in dilemma with the sun's natural heat. As she began to step past the post office a postman at the station woke up and sat up in a chair he occupied. His squinty eyes opened as a tall, blue cap on his head nearly fell into his lap and he jumped to his feet.
"Oh boy! Someone came to the post office!" he cried. He wasn't one to get customers often, but when he did they got him excited he rushed over with his stubby legs and without question pressed a letter into Houri's hands. The letter was addressed to a girl named 'Holly Sprig', but knew no one of that name. She glanced over the letter and said, "This isn't for me I have to continue..."
"It is! The letter is for you since I may have read it by accident when I slit it open with a nail file!"
Nobody accidentally slit open a letter with a nail file. So she simply accepted it based on the fact that the writing on it looked like writing from her fellow Florians. After reading it for a moment the facts contained within shocked her. Apparently, the tribe she lived with was changing up how it did things drastically. Further research into their own culture revealed that Florians were able to live in practically every climate except cold regions of the world and in space. The letter also said they were all going to take flower based names and that the group chose Holly Spring for her and the evil name Mint Spear for her mother for having done so many bad things to the race as a whole. The final things it said were Florians aged only one year every twelve years and Houri calculated that meant that though she was 393 that she was actually 32 and not 13 in human years.
"I'm old!" she cried as she sank to her knees. The post man had been very evil to give her this letter. It added that many Florians were often so youthful feeling that sometimes they thought they were younger then they actually were. That was good but bad at the same time. It caused her to freak out and as a result she ran wildly into the desert leaving the poor piece of mail and the mail man behind her.
As she ran the sand stung in her face and her multitudinous tears rolling down her cheeks burned her eyes. Her vision became extremely blurry and as a result she found herself amidst the desert, alone. Or so she thought until she stopped crying and saw that a large white rock was ahead of her. She approached it without any caution and to her surprise came face to face with a giant snake's nail. She had come up behind the girl Nai-Ran without knowing what was on the other end.

Nai-Ran stretched out her arms leisurely in front of her as she watched the small rodent disappear. The Ryashi still felt tired, but she couldn’t seem to fall back asleep. Perhaps the long hibernation period during the trip to this new planet was to blame. It was incredibly frustrating, either way. The rock she had been napping on was the perfect temperature too...
While debating on whether or not to make her way back to greener parts of planet to hunt for food, Nai-Ran heard something shuffling through the sand behind her. “Hmm?” She tossed a quick glance back to see a figure approaching. Oh! Was it a native? The alien girl grinned from ear to ear. She was about to whirl around and say a cheery hello to the stranger. However, she froze when the mere thought of the idea caused her to practically feel her father’s stern glare upon her. She was supposed to be a proper lady. A proper lady carried herself with grace, refinement, and dignity.
The young woman took a deep breath and slowly raised self into a sitting position that faced the stranger. Her hands were folded neatly in what would be her lap if she had legs. Nai-Ran’s white, scaly tail wrapped itself in a neat little spiral around the rock. The mental image of her father faded away, causing her to internally give a sigh of relief. Why was it that even when the old general wasn’t even on the same planet as Nai-Ran, it still felt like he was watching her? Pushing the question aside for the moment, she gave the blonde woman in front of her a warm smile as she patiently looked her over.
The first thing that Nai-Ran noticed was that the girl was bipedal. It didn’t really come as a big shock. The few off-worlders who had made their way to father’s corner of Appodorra had all been two legged. It was fairly common to her understanding. Though, she didn’t get what the big deal about having legs was, much less to walk on only two of them. They looked like a nightmare to balance on. Maybe they had a couple of plus sides, but they seemed far too awkward for her to ever wish to try them out herself.
Whether or not the blonde girl before her was a native, she obviously didn’t seem too happy to be out here in the desert. Her cheeks were stained with tears and had a bit of sand clinging to her skin. She appeared to be dressed rather warmly for such a naturally hot place. The corners of the alien girl’s mouth drooped into a slack-jawed frown as a puzzled look overtook Nai-Ran’s face. Was she alright? Did she desire to be elsewhere, or was it something more than that?
“Greetings traveler,” Nai-Ran finally spoke, not wanting to be rude. The young woman wanted to make a good first impression. Thanks to all formal gatherings her father had hosted over the years, it had been ingrained into Nai-Ran’s mind that first impressions were incredibly important. That, and she was excited that she had someone else to talk to. The girl mentally crossed fingers that the person in front of her could do more than squeak in response. “Do you seek refuge? Feel free to take a rest in my cave if you need to take a breather. It may not be much, but there’s plenty of shade.”

Refuge... Shade... Holly thought as she looked down at the giant snake woman coiled on the rocks above her. "I-need," she squeaked, "Shade." She'd drag herself over to the rock and sit down in front of the coiled snake lady. Her blue eyes would gaze and down this strange creature before her voice cracked with the words, "I don't know what you are, but you're not around from here are you?"
Holly had never seen snake people or even snakes this size out on the Spinach Wastelands or in her own Bamboo Forest. It honestly seemed like the girl before her was a hallucination, but the way she moved indicated otherwise and her distinct white pattern was too real seeming to be a mirage. It made her want to stick out her arm and touch the girl, which she did.
The flesh she felt along the girl's tail was thick, meaty, and very sturdy. It was probably rude of her to touch the girl without asking, but Holly wanted to make sure she was not too far gone in the head to think properly anymore. She pulled her hand back when she was done and remembered the letter still in her hand. Taking it, she balled it up and then ate it in a single gulp. Then patting her chest said, "I'm sorry, I'm kind of rude right now cause I'm really distraught, I'm honestly not sure where you're from but... My people aren't from around here. My name is Holly Sprig and I am a Florian, but you may call me Houri."
There was a long pause after this as Holly looked down at her sweaty human clothes. She felt so embarrassed as she blushed and watched the sand drop down from her her skin. There was so little she felt she could do to make this situation any better for herself. At least the shade was cool and allowed her sun-beaten face a break.

The desert dwelling alien was relieved that the blonde girl could form actual words. Though, she sounded completely drained. It appeared to be a struggle to get out the few words that she did. The blonde girl moved to sit in the shade of the cave roughly a foot away from her rock. Between the dazed look on her face and her weak sounding voice, Nai-Ran would believe it if she were told that this girl had just finished traversing the pits of hell. The Ryashi felt kind of bad for not having any food or water that she could offer. She had gorged herself earlier while she was away from the cave so that she wouldn’t have to worry about food or water for a while, as all Ryashi were used to doing.
Suddenly, the blonde girl ran her hand across Nai-Ran’s scales. Muscles under her fingers twitched at the unexpected contact. The young Ryashi woman raised an eyebrow at the odd gesture and opened her mouth to speak. However, no words were to be found so she quickly shut it. Back home she would have given a verbal thrashing to anyone that had displayed such a blatant disregard for manners or personal space. However, she didn’t know any of the customs the people of this world had. This could be a normal thing here for all she knew. Besides, going from what this girl was saying, her appearance was a bit of an oddity. Perhaps she would just have to get used to such a thing during her stay here.
Still not exactly sure how to respond, the biped removed her hand from Nai-Ran’s tail and focused her attention on a piece of parchment she had been carrying. Without a word, the blonde girl wadded it up and devoured it. Nai-Ran tilted her head to the side and watched curiously as she swallowed the piece of paper. Is that really what the people of this world ate? It looked more like what her fellow Ryashi would use to write on back home. While she hadn’t tried it herself, Nai-Ran could already tell that she wouldn’t be a big fan of the cuisine here.
“It is a pleasure to meet you Houri. There’s no need for an apology, as I appear to have lost my manners and neglected to introduce myself before offering you shelter,” the Ryashi replied with a confident smile. “I am Nai-Ran of the Rassuto. Simply Nai-Ran will do though; it’s not often that my kind bothers with more than the first name. You were correct in your assumption that I’m not from around here. I’m a Ryashi, hailing from the Rujju Sands of Appodorra.” Once she had returned the introduction, Nai-Ran paused and started to look around nervously. There had been a single question burning in her mind since she first touched down on this planet. It felt extremely awkward to ask though. Still, the sooner she got it out of the way, the better; there was no time like the present.
“Speaking of not being from around here... What planet is this?” the serpentine off-worlder asked somewhat sheepishly, accentuating the question with an awkward laugh.

Holly put her hands on her hips and said, "What planet is this? That is a good question to ask. I'm from the planet Amazonica originally, but came here about 400 years ago after my mother destroyed that world. This planet though that my people, the Florians, live on is called Earth. It's populated mostly by Zoanthrophes and Humans and very few humans. Zoa I think are pretty much like you. They're animal like, but way more animal like then you are, which is why I asked if you were from around here."
Holly let her hands slide behind her back and then looked up at the hot sun before looking back in Nai-Ran's eyes. "Nai-Ran, if you don't mind I'd like you to carry me to somewhere with less shade. Maybe your home if you don't mind? That way we both don't burn out here. I'm a plant-like alien and can survive out here, but not without water, which is one reason why I ate that piece of paper among other things since paper is made with a bit of glue sometimes. I didn't really help though and honestly tastes really bad." She blushed after saying this and could feel her lips cracking along with her sanity from her own dehydration. She sounded like an idiot but the battle that had occurred far to the south of here, or was still occurring in the Budokai Tenkaichi stadium, had caused her to flee to here, where ever this was, and sent her in a disarray. But this had also taken her so much energy to do she was now running on reserves in terms of being able to continue standing or moving. Holly hated to sound stupid or dumb but human interaction had not been something she'd actually done for a while too.
It took all her strength really to continue this conversation and not fall down. Holly felt she was a weak Florian and that she should have acted smarter in the company of this stranger. This lady seemed fine in the sun and honestly almost seemed capable of taking her down at any point. The thick muscles she touched had indicated some battle experience, but perhaps a bit less then her own.
Nai-Ran's big green eyes seemed pleasant enough. So Holly was certain she not going to get attacked immediately, but trying to invite herself to one's home was not normal. So she realized she needed to still be a bit careful if she could. The energy and strength to fight really wasn't there for her anymore.

Nai-Ran raised an eyebrow as she listened to Houri describe the majority of the natives of the planet that they were currently on. “Animal like?” she huffed. The Ryashi were a proud race. They most certainly weren’t beasts! To be compared to the very things that they ate and used for labor was actually a bit insulting. However, the serpentine girl stopped herself and took a deep breath. She was a lady. Nai-Ran couldn’t lose her head over something so petty. Besides, Houri was quite obviously out of it. Perhaps it was the heat and possible dehydration getting to her.
While she was still a bit miffed over what was supposed to be a harmless comment, the Ryashi returned the gentle smile to her face. “So, you say the planet we’re on is called Earth?” she commented, changing the subject. Nai-Ran repeated the name several times in her head. It was only a single syllable, simple, yet had an interesting ring to it. It was no Appodorra, but she liked it anyway.
When Houri expressed her discomfort about their current location, all the young woman could do was shake her head. She motioned to the cave that the Florian was currently sitting in. “I’m sorry to disappoint you, but as far as my home goes, you’re looking at it. I’ve only just arrived here, you see. I’m still working on getting settled in.” However, as soon as the words left her mouth, an idea popped into her head. “However... We aren’t too deep into this desert. There’s a lush little patch of green right before you hit the sand not too terribly far from us. It has a stream, a few trees, and plenty of critters scurrying around the brush. That should be more suitable for you.”
Nai-Ran slowly slithered off the rock she had been coiled on. She motioned for Houri to climb on her back, holding her hands out so that they would stable the girls’ legs once she had climbed on. Under normal circumstances, the girl would demand that she put her legs to good use and walk, especially after the ‘animal like’ comment earlier. However, she was worried that Houri would keel over on the way. Just because she had her pride didn’t mean she was heartless. If all Florians were like this, why one would ever venture into the desert was completely beyond her.
“By the way,” the young woman spoke up while looking back to the other girl. “Don’t worry about me ‘burning’ in such weather. You likely wouldn’t be comfortable on my home world of Appodorra. The entire planet is a giant desert, just like this one. It doesn’t bother me one bit.”

"You feel really warm," Holly uttered as she grabbed Nai-Ran's hand and climbed on her back. She would lay on top of the thick snake skin and hug it feeling the warmth of the sun flow into her hands.
"If only you could magically bring me water." Holly croaked as she looked into Nai-Ran's face, "I should have brought more, but my planet Amazonica, well, it used to be full of jungles I hear. So there was no need for massive amounts of water. People in my village in the Bamboo Forest spread rumors once and said Earth is full of climates from places that are cold to places that are really warm like here. I'm just glad you're suited to this place. But if you don't mind I feel like I need to pay you back. Perhaps a short spar might do you and me some good, that is if you like fighting?"

”I’ve been napping on that rock for a while. It was rather nice, actually.” The biped didn’t seem to be bothered by the heat emanating from Nai-Ran. Though, the extra warmth couldn’t have been doing Houri any good since she had already been wandering through the desert for a while. Once the Florian was secure, Nai-Ran took off across the burning desert sands. ”It shouldn’t take us too long to get there,” the serpentine woman commented while looking back at Houri. She had already memorized the location, and there weren’t many obstacles to worry about along the way. She could actually spend a decent chunk of the trip looking at her passenger rather than trying to hold a conversation while staring off into the distance.
”Conjuring water isn’t in my skill set, I’m afraid. The desert definitely isn’t for everyone. My people are constantly reminding those who are visiting Appodorra not to stray too far from the vacation areas. Of course, that doesn’t stop the few that are empty headed enough to go off on their own to visit one of the gem mines instead of waiting for the tour guide...” Nai-Ran grumbled, going off on a bit of a tangent.
It was then that Houri decided to bring up the topic of repayment. Nai-Ran opened her mouth and was about to tell her not to worry about it. However, before she could say anything, the Florian brought up the idea of a spar between the two of them. ”A spar?” the Ryashi repeated curiously. She had added that it were only if Nai-Ran was interested in fighting, but it was kind of odd to suggest out of the blue like that. The serpentine girl knew how to fight, but she didn’t really think she looked the part. Though, at the same time, Houri didn’t really look the part either. Appearances could certainly be deceiving. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, but perhaps it should be saved for another time? No offense, but you don’t look like you’re in any condition to fight.”
Nai-Ran continued to glide across the sand; their destination was now a speck on the horizon. Her new friend would have a chance to rehydrate at the stream when they arrived. It would also give Nai-Ran a chance at hunting for more food to store away for later. ”If you don’t mind my asking, what brought you all the way out here in the first place?”

"I am on my way home," Holly explained to her as she lay on Nai-Ran's back. "Unfortunately, I believe I have to cross the desert to get there. I'm not sure how I crossed it the first time."
Holly needn't press the issue about repaying Nai-Ran with a spar. She was correct in that Holly was likely to tired to even try to fight her. The thing was though that she really wanted to. Her time at the Tenkaichi battle grounds had not been so great and had shown just how weak she really was against real fighters. It frustrated her and perhaps the sun was also making her say things that she did not want to. It did shine awfully bright overhead as she looked up and whined, "This desert needs some shade..."
Sweat dripped down from her brow as she fell on her back and lay atop Nai-Ran's fine scales once more. While she lay there a large crow circled overhead and seemed to be following them. For a moment, Holly thought it might leave them alone but the large black bird swooped down and cawed at them as it unfurled its talons and tried to attack them both. It was rather odd to see such a bird here.

”Perhaps you went around the desert?” Nai-Ran suggested as she continued to slide across the sand with Houri on her back. They were nearing the edge of the desert as tiny patches of stiff grass were starting to poke up out of the sand. She couldn’t really say if going around was possible or not. Nai-Ran didn’t know where Houri lived. Even if she did, she hadn’t a clue as to exactly how far the sandy expanse reached.
The Ryashi’s passenger continued to complain about the heat and the harsh sunlight as she went limp on Nai-Ran’s back again. The young woman was no stranger to the idea that not everyone was cut out for such climates, referring back to her complaint about some of the empty headed tourists that thought they would be fine on their own. It was still hard to imagine that anyone could dislike such weather when it was so comfortable to her. Perhaps she should just be glad that she was born a Ryashi, she supposed.
Nearing their destination, the serpentine girl’s pointed ears twitched a bit as a shrill cawing noise filled the air. Nai-Ran spotted a shadow on the ground that seemed to be darting back and forth, but never straying far from the two of them. She ended up looking up just in time to see a large black bird swoop down at them, its sharp talons at the ready. ”What the... Hey!” she exclaimed in surprise at the sudden attack. Being careful not to send Houri flying, Nai-Ran used her weight to help make a sharp turn. Using the momentum of the sudden turn to her advantage, she swung her thick tail around to smack a load of sand directly at the large bird’s face. It let out a startled screech and quickly ascended back into the sky.
The young Ryashi woman gave a triumphant smirk as she saw the winged nuisance fly away, trailing sand and black feathers behind it. However, that smirk quickly faded as she realized it was circling around for another attack. ”Wretched little beast... Why won’t you take the hint?” she grumbled. It seemed like such overkill to use any amount of her ki on what seemed like such a minor annoyance. However, her hands were full and this stupid bird didn’t show any signs of leaving them alone.
Once again the large bird circled around and dove at the pair who had merely been trying to cross the desert. Nai-Ran, having had quite enough of this, took a steady breath and felt ki flowing through her. She threw an intense glare at the bird and concentrated. Her crimson eyes glowed for a split second before a focused beam of energy of a similar hue shot forth from each one. The young woman wasn’t going for a direct hit. Instead, one of the beams grazed the side of the bird right under its wing. Another piercing screech filled the air as searing pain enveloped the creature. More black feathers fell from the area where it had been wounded.
Nai-Ran watched as the bird once again ascended back into the sky, this time not bothering to circle around for another attack. She didn’t know if it had plans to come back and try again, but she didn’t intend to be here by the time it could return. ”Unruly pest...” she sighed while shaking her head. ”I would rather not wait around to see if it has any allies. Don’t worry, we’re just about there,” she informed Houri before continuing on.
Nai-Ran had spoken the truth, for the small patches of grass her scales had been sliding over quickly began to grow in size as they moved forward. Eventually they happened upon a rather nice looking patch of green right before the desert started. A stream flowed through the area; several trees lined its banks and there was no shortage of foliage that grew closer to the ground. There was a mountain in the distance that they would have eventually hit if they were to keep going, Anyone from the area would have been able to identify it as Mt. Paozu, but Nai-Ran hadn’t been here nearly long enough to know such information.
The Ryashi slithered up alongside the stream and lowered her hands so that Houri could climb off of her. ”Here we are. It’s still pretty warm, but there’s plenty of water and shade,” she spoke as her eyes darted about, keeping watch for any decently sized prey that wandered into the area.

As they finally made their way out of the desert Holly began to feel much better. The heat on her was not so intense and this allowed her to actually sit up and slide off Nai-Ran when they reached their destination. She had been quite surprised how Nai-Ran had dealt with the random, feral crow and pondered what other moves the snake girl might have besides the deadly eye beams she'd shown off.
Touching her toes Holly limbered up and stood up straight next to her savior. She walked over to the stream and without a second thought pushed her toes into the muddy bed. Tiny roots grew out of her feet and instantly began to suck up nutrients and water on the river bed. While Holly stood there she turned her head back to Nai-Ran and said, "Thank you for taking me here. I feel much better after having come here."
Holly definitely meant it when she said this because a thick mixture of evergreen and deciduous trees blocked the light overhead and kept the place they were in rather dark. While she stood there she looked down at her feet and noticed that green sap was leaking out of some cuts in her feet left by holes in her black boots. This was her body's blood and had the strange ability to help her regenerate from bad wounds. It was not near potent enough to provide this power though so she added, "If you're wary of the fluid leaking out of my feet that's my blood. I wouldn't drink it since it's not refined yet though. It can, when I get stronger, heal people however."
She was slightly worried that the inquisitive Nai-Ran might drink it out of curiosity to see what it tasted like since the girl had begun to ask more questions then she felt was normal for someone to do. She did her best to steer the snake girl away from this thought, if she should even have one about this, and she pulled out a scouter from her fanny pack. Clipping the mechanical headset to her left eye she pressed a button on the side and activated the scouter's reader while she stared at Nai-Ran through it's green tinted glass.
"I hope you don't mind, but if you've heard of a scouter before I'm using it to read your power level right now. I've not forsaken my desire to repay you and intend to fight you at some point as soon as I figure out how strong you are." Holly crossed her arms and sighed as the reading came out and her eye piece beeped in response to this. It had stopped reading Nai-Ran's current energy levels at 1725 PL.
Holly could not believe it. Her savior was currently far, far weaker then she expected. The girl was barely tougher then two human beings. Just to test if this were true or not Holly walked out of the stream and up to Holly whereupon she drew back her fist and tried to punch her in the stomach. A good warrior could take a blow to this part of the body quite well if trained enough she figured. It was probably going to be a bad way to start off being friends though, however, if Nai-Ran did not manage to faint from this attack Holly knew she could apologize later.

Not seeing any animals around, Nai-Ran sighed and returned her attention to Houri. The Florian already seemed to be doing much better than before. She had removed the part of her attire that had been covering her feet. Her toes were now partially buried in the soft mud of the stream’s bank; roots had sprouted from them and they were starting to ooze some sort of green liquid. Nai-Ran blinked and watched the process curiously. Houri did say that Florians were plant-like, but the Ryashi girl didn’t expect her to literally have roots.
“Wait, people can heal themselves by drinking your kind’s blood? Isn’t that a tad... dark?” she asked warily after Houri warned her not to drink it. Nai-Ran wasn’t sure if her feelings about this were abnormal compared to everyone else on this strange planet, but drinking green ooze that’s seeping out of someone’s toes didn’t seem appealing at all. Especially not enough to warrant a random warning like that out of nowhere...
The thought was actually a bit cringe worthy to her, and not just because of the obvious reasons. It’s not like blood made her squeamish or anything like that. In fact, the blood of some of the common livestock animals of Appodorra was actually quite delicious if whoever was preparing it knew what they were doing. Perhaps it was just the image of hunting down one of her friends back home and demanding some of their blood like some sort of vampire that creeped her out. Either way, Nai-Ran definitely wasn’t interested.
“Eh? Scouter?” the Ryashi repeated, being torn from her previous train of thought. Nai-Ran tilted her head as she stared at the strange device that Houri had just attached to her face. She had never heard of such a thing before. “So, you can gauge how strong somebody is just by looking at them with that thing?” One of those could certainly come in handy. The serpentine off-worlder would have to ask Houri later where she could get one. She could see various characters flash across the tiny screen, but had no idea what they meant from this far away.
The tiny characters ceased moving and Houri’s expression shifted to one of surprise. What exactly had that device told her? Whatever it had been, the Florian started moving towards her without uttering a single word. Nai-Ran raised an eyebrow at this; something was definitely up. Houri stopped in front of Nai-Ran, drew back her fist, and aimed a punch at her stomach. Had the Ryashi not been wary that something suspicious was going on and hadn’t already been watching the blonde biped closely, the attack likely would have connected and caused her to double over in pain. Thankfully, she was able to dodge to the side instead.
“Hey! I thought the plan was to hold off on sparring!” she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest and shooting Houri a look of anger mixed with confusion. It didn’t matter what the scouter had told her or not; that had been incredibly rude. “What is the protocol for beginning a spar or a duel here? I understand that it would likely be different than how we Ryashi do it, but is it really nothing more than trying to punch somebody out of the blue? That seems like the behavior of a common thug, if you ask me...”

"I apologize," Holly stated as she lowered her arm and let her finger unfurl. It had been rude of her to do what she had done. Luckily, Nai-Ran had managed to dodge her punch but now was incredibly mad at her. Holly could see this on her face and bowed to her saying, "I-I was not initiating our spar, but rather making sure my scouter worked. They're supposed to gauge a person's power level but sometimes they have a tendency to break or misread a person's energy. Yours reads at 1725 power."
Suddenly, the scouter beeped again and the numbers on it began to rise slightly. It picked up on a small spike of power coursing through Nai-Ran's body as Holly spoke to her. Nai-Ran's angry demeanor was causing it to work again as it attempted once more to determine the change in her personal energy. It was not getting a clear reading, but her base power of 1725 PL had risen a little. Maybe as much as 2025 PL but not much higher. It stopped there for some reason Holly noticed.
Holly frowned, stood up straight once more, and stated, "Seems I'm wrong about that though. The scouter's saying you have a lot more power then you should. It originally read 1725 yet now reads 2025. Can you perhaps transform into a stronger state of power?" If Nai-Ran could Holly felt a need to fight her. She seemed like a good person to battle. Yet she knew she had to hold back since her manners were breaking their budding friendship.

Nai-Ran took a deep breath. The way that Houri had handled the situation had certainly stuck a nerve with her. She needed to keep a cool head. “If that’s the case I wish you would have just said something,” Nai-Ran sighed. At the very least the situation really helped the fact that she was on another world sink in. Something like that happening among the crowd that both herself and her farther associated with was completely unheard of.
The young Ryashi woman closed her eyes and focused on nothing but her breathing for a few moments. She started to feel herself calm down. “Somewhere around 1725 and 2025, you say? I’m not sure if that exceeds or doesn’t reach your expectations of me. Either way, I’m not satisfied with my current skill level.” Nai-Ran casually slithered over to a large rock near the bank of the stream to perch herself on, feeling that she wouldn’t have to worry about Houri attempting to punch her again. “Daddy never tried to discourage my interest in fighting. However, he was always rather insistent that I immerse myself in political drivel rather than train as much as I would like. Thankfully now that I’m no longer on Appodorra, I can dictate my own schedule,” she explained.
When Houri brought of the idea of transforming, Nai-Ran shook her head. “We Ryashi do have a transformation that can be unlocked with enough training. However, the last time I attempted it, I wasn’t quite able to tap into it. Instructor Re-Za said that I was close though...” she trailed off. Just thinking about it made her want to resume her training. Nai-Ran had seen both of her instructors enter into Serpentine Fury on several occasions for demonstration purposes. It was always been a bit frustrating to be told that she was so close, yet it continued to elude her grasp.
Nai-Ran’s pointed ears twitched a bit as a distant cawing sound was heard. She frowned as she concentrated on the distant noise. Why did that winged little vermin from earlier have to be so persistent? “It would appear that our feathered pest has returned. Judging by the noise, he’s brought some friends...”
