Okay, as many of you are aware; there is a 2 faction limit per character. Meaning, you can only be in two factions at the same time, as long as you aren't like, in the Z-fighters and the Arcosian Empire.
Now, why am I bringing this up? Because recently we're being told by an admin that we can now only be in one. And, after a heated discussion, I just realized something.
Having factions limited is kinda stupid. It's like being in Skyrim and saying you can't join the Mage College, Thieves Guild, and Brotherhood and that you could only join one or two of those.
So what do we do? We do away with that stupid limit, you know. But, if you go ahead and join an opposing faction; and the other faction finds out, you best be ready to get them IC consequences, ya know?
Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Do you like the idea, or should we stay at two? Or should we lower it down to one? Discuss.

Open join. These characters are supposed to be people. Say you have children. Theres nothing in real life you cant be a part of both the PTA and a boyscout leader for your kid. Why have it different here?

The thing is this isn't Skyrim. Skyrim and every previous Elder Scrolls are video games that are built with content for their players to sink hours into and each guild has a quest line that leads to you becoming the leader of it. None of the factions fight each other in Skyrim anyway, save the Imperials and the Stormcloaks, but that's a quest line in and of itself. Souls is much more dynamic and prone to change as opposed to a preprogrammed game. There aren't many factions to begin with in the first place and if you're part of too many, it can become overwhelming and, due to the nature of Souls, factions can become enemies in an instant. I think we should just keep the limit, but I'm not opposed to them being enemy factions.

I know people have switched sides in the past/gone turncoat and betrayed their faction, and that some profiles are outdated/inactive, but officially speaking you can only be pinned with one faction - Not sure where this two rule came from, could you link me to the poll/discussion? I'm just curious. *Profiles only support 1 faction, for example yours is the saiyan empire presently. You can be friends/acquaintances/whatever with anyone you want including other factions(which may lead you to switch sides or even affiliate factions) but the reason a group exists is to get people off the fence and show where their 'true loyalty'(quote unquote) lies. Gameplay wise, the reason faction benefits exist[eg. shared bank] is to promote conflict through clearly delineated sides and create choice/incentives on who you sign up with, it's essentially a uniform (a visual queue to help people quickly and easily assess where you stand) - you may have friends on the enemy team... but it's just that, the enemy team, because you have chosen your side for whatever reason and it is not the same side as theirs. Certain teams may even be 'allies' in a given goal(eg. blue banner and Z fighters both wanting to defend earth from destruction) but that doesn't mean you're part of both teams in the official sense/ doesn't mean you can reap the benefits of one factions equipment while still wearing the colours of a different team. you have the interesting conflict of having to choose whether you join these friends in their team, or stay on yours - there may be moral reasons, personal reasons, it may even be you don't like other people they teamed up with, all of them make this interesting conflict which comes from you having to pick a side. If two factions find their goals to be harmonious, the idea would be for them to affiliate(like frieza and the ginyu force), same reason for the member requirements for factions - to ensure a given group has a strong support base behind it, and encourage people to join existing teams instead of making countless tiny teams. If you have a greater loyalty for one group over the other then you would officially sign up to that preferred faction. and if your plan is to secretly join/create another faction behind your teams back... then you can do that, but you don't count as being part of both teams officially, you count as being part of one with the intention to betray/whatever the other, or whichever one you most associate with. Like Vegeta turning against frieza, or the androids turning against gero, or even tien and chaotzu joining the Z fighters. As for me personally, I think it should stay as one since it's cleaner and pushes people to be decisive and take more dramatic action, though by all means discuss. (Kayle your example would not really qualify as factions (in the Souls sense), those are more 'local activity groups' you might decide to do with some faction/neutral teammates. Galactic Saiyan boyscouts and the Oozaru PTA, kgo)

I'd say it should be as many as you want, provided they're of the same mindset.
So, if Namek and Earth are working together against Arcose and Vegeta (hypothetically speaking) you shouldn't be in, say, Earth's Special Forces and the Arcosian Empire. Doesn't make sense. I imagine the members have enough common sense to make that a viable choice, rather than just saying 'you only get one.' I imagine their name gets colored whatever their Major Faction affiliation is anyway, so you're already flying the colors - why not have a side project with similar goals if it fits your character?

People in comics rock multiple factions all the time: Iron Man is in the Avengers/Illuminati and Green Lantern is in the Lantern Corps/The Justice League for example. As long as it makes narrative sense they should be allowed to join whatever faction they want. The issue of divided loyalty and how it should be handled should rest on the faction leaders (should an issue arise.)

I'm just curious. As far as I'm aware, there's never been ANY discussion and/or polling regarding faction limits, either, and the current focus on factions, to me, seems like a non-issue. I think you can be in multiple factions, provided they are not juxtaposed. You could be in the saiyan solar empire, and also the Red Eclipse; these factions are allied, and already have some member overlap simply from character contexts driven by our RP. As Maeve said, provided it has NARRATIVE context, joining multiple is fine. Its just when the Avengers start fighting the X-Men over the Phoenix Force that things might get tricky, but thats fun ICly to work out.
