Howdy-Howdy! So I've been looking at the application/profile template lately and something has been bugging me to no end. In nearly all the profiles I look at there is no personality section listed whatsoever! I don't know about you all but when I RP with someone personality is the first thing I look at, I feel it's the absolute most important thing about writing, designing, and interacting with a character. It's not as if personality is an optional thing either, it's something every character has (without it they'd be merely fighting robots nodisrespecttotheandroids) so why not have it easily laid out in their profile? There should be no need to dig through a character's history and beginning post to try and dig out their personality in my humble opinion. It would also make it easier to determine who you'd enjoy rping with/ how you could potentially plot with a character. So now that I've made my case here's my suggested change to the required profile information. [div align="center"]Name:
Alias: Optional, nickname/codename/title/identity
Species:
Gender:
Age:
Appearance:
Personality
Positive Traits:
Negative Traits:
Fears and Weaknesses:
History:
Starting Planet: Homeworld unless otherwise stated.
Techniques:
Offensive
Support
Special
Items: 500 Zenni
One-Use Pod[/div]
As you can see I added a few things to the default template. Namely, a personality section that's split into both positive and negative traits as well as a section for fears and weaknesses. These, I feel, make a character more real and interesting. There should be a close to an equal amount of good and bad to their personality because in all honesty I feel that the flaws are what make someone interesting (after all, no one's perfect!) All in all though I think this would help flesh out character profiles and as I said earlier make it easier to determine if you'd like to plot/rp with someone. As for examples of this template in action I'd like to post my profiles which I opted to add the information regardless of the minimum requirements. I like this! Give people a means of updating their characters overall look and appearance, as well as well as a personality guideline to follow in their rps! Well done, Nicolas.

Traits and fear/weaknesses should be optional. Why though? The site is meant to be a relaxed rp. No need to make it more complex. Also, there's no need for them. Traits really don't matter all that much. In my opinion, it hardly alters one rp.

Except a characters personality traits do matter, it sets your character apart from the rest and makes them more fleshed out and interesting. Also, I don't buy the 'relaxed' thing since we've got people cranking out huge training posts in order to gain PL like it's their job. (No offense to those that do, hell I tend to go big with my training posts too!) Seriously though, I can't see what's bad or complex about describing how your character acts. Like, I don't know how you can rp a character without a distinct personality in mind.

It's not a necessity to have, but it's a definite, 'want.' It's just an addition for those who want to make their characters more fleshed out. Mayze is correct on the matter of this being optional. However, I would like this section added, regardless, so we can get more interesting developments.

Relaxed as in complexity. Personality is fine. Traits and those other things, not so much. Some people won't bother to follow the traits they give themselves, and let's be honest. What would we put as a trait? Frugal, messy? Those things don't to much to affect rp. Besides, you should be able to infer your traits just from looking at your personality.

My response... SUB SECTIONS! That is the reason why they exist. Probably bullet note them, so it's clarified.

If you look at my profiles that I posted and compare them to my posts you'll see that I follow the personality traits I set for myself. They are mainly meant to be subsections that help define the personality. Also things like Frugal and Messy could absolutely work in an rp. I honestly think a basic personality is an absolute must have at the very least. Without naming any names I recently saw a character shift morality like 3 times in the course of a thread or 2. It came out of nowhere and felt forced. Though if they had described their personality a bit beforehand the transitions may have been more believable (At the very least it would have made them more accountable)

Personality, is a neccasity, but traitscan just be infered from your personality, race, and history.

I was merely suggesting for the sake of organization having the personality section be composed by the different traits. Like so: I don't expect everyone to go as in depth as I did but a paragraph or two for each section would do wonders.

This is largely stuff that should be covered in a (good) history. I dislike the idea of calling it out as a separate section because it essentially means I have to repeat myself. I doubly dislike the idea of having a 'fears/weaknesses' section because if you think you've seen bad, forced RP from people playing what they wanna play, you haven't seen anything compared to what you'll get when people clumsily try to take advantage of those.

A general description of the fear with a labelling of the reason in the history and/or beginners presentation, rather than labelling the reason for it in with the fear, would be more sensible, so if it's in the template as an optional matter, we can have it written with the rule of, "Be brief here. Elaborate in history on why they have this. It'll help you out in the end! Trust us!"

I like the personality thing, but I believe the char 'summary' thread handles that..People just need to remember it's still there.
Might need a list of traits though since not everyone will know what to add and what not to add if yall gonna add that.
(Personally think it's fine as it is now.)
