Yeah, that's not a downside. If what they gain is something that's mechanical and not rp fluff, then what's lost must ALSO be mechanical and not rp fluff. Donatsu seems to have the right idea on this one. As I said, I would let the admins decide how this goes. If they believe I should have a draining effect with the power boost, I'll gladly accept that consequence. Except that's why these discussions are here to take place to begin with, to my knowledge. It's not something that's just up to the admins. Otherwise, what would be the point of having to discuss it here if you could go straight to them with it?

Komoto, your current character isn't right for this type of thech. I suggest fleshing out your mechanics a bit more and making a new character.

When we were discussing Zuni's goal to become the Not-Guardian of Vegeta, an evil counterpart to the Holy Water was mooted and - if I recall correctly - might be on the cards as her 'special' for her school.
If you want an evil version of Unlock Potential I have no problem with that but you should need to follow those same guidelines. Get yourself a school (for 44k) and be prepared to make every student who is going to want to get the boost buy your uniform, or buy it for them.
I actually dislike the massive difference between the 'canon' schools and positions and the custom ones we can make. I think you should need to spend a similar amount of cash to claim the Guru or Kami slot, rather than just needing 10k PL. That might encourage people to think harder about whether they really want the job because it is a significant time investment getting there.

So you are saying those people like myself and Reikiko did not earn our positions in the Turtle and Crane Schools despite actually coming up with compelling stories behind them taking over the school having it be voted on if we could or not by the community and then still having to prove that we deserved it instead of saving up zeni for something that did not exist when we both aimed for our positions? Yes that is fair let me spend the next month grinding out zeni so that I can reattain something that I earned through roleplay.
As for Guru and Kami I think since 10k is trivial nowadays jump it to 75k minimum. but thats my jaded two cents on everything.

She's saying it should have a similar cost. Maybe by upping the PL because getting 10k is easy as pie. While getting 44k Zeni, even if you are not a human, can take quite a while.

Wow you just love finding things to take offence to, huh? 1) I never said it should be applied retroactively. It shouldn't. You got the school for free - good for you. If you left the site, I think the next Turtle Hermit should have to pay for the privilege like anyone else. 2) My entire story since Zuni was approved has been about the journey towards her school too - that doesn't make you special. 3) Canon schools still have advantages over non-canon schools (such as masters being able to teach techniques for free) that - yes - I think are unfair. I think if you're a school you should be a school and the mechanics should work the same for everyone, because that's fair. But please, continue misconstruing everything I say as a personal slight against you when - really - we've shared what, three sentences the whole time I've been here? That's productive and TOTALLY gives me a great impression of you.

Sorry for insulting your royal highness. Forget that I have ever spoken to you or to anyone else. I am going to just stick in a small circle and watch the rest of the site fly on. I could care less anymore about what happens and what gets changed anymore.

Cool it and drop the subject. Whatever your thoughts on schools/masters are, that's not up for debate. What's being talked about is Komoto using Pieter's technique and nothing more.
Keep things civil or I'll be intervening.

You can't deny him the tech in fear he'll meta game. At least give him a chance and keep a close eye on him.
And I'll say again it sounds really fun to have someone with this tech who is active.
Imagine Komoto taking characters(Who are willing) and messing with their brain a bit. I think what happened to Bing is really awesome, and makes his story much cooler!

Sure.
But he shouldn't get it for free just because it'd be cool. Nobody gets anything for free (except the people who manage to get canon positions) and this shouldn't be an exception to that.

This isn't a popularity contest. It may be fair to say it'll take while and many posts for him to learn this tech, but he does have 500 posts making him a vet.
Disagree with me if you will but Komoto has every reason to have this ability as he has stated. He's just that kinda guy.

I'm not sure we're disagreeing?
The way to get a special tech is to buy a School, which lets him do (AFAIK) EXACTLY what he wants to do. It just takes some time to get the cash together.
If he does that I have zero problem with him doing exactly what he wants! Same as anyone else who buys a school should be able to.

I think a big part of this also relies on Pieter. After all, it's his unique technique that he came up with. If Komoto's set on learning his technique, then should it not also come with his drawbacks? And that's if Pieter would be willing to let him learn it. I'd say that if someone comes up with a unique ability that it shouldn't just be up for grabs if the creator doesn't want to give it. Mind you, Pieter could say yes on this and completely eliminate this gripe , but that would be up to him.

The specifics of the technique are pretty vague (he calls out Alaistair's power but also Guru's unlock potential which works differently) and that'd need some back and forth with staff when it came time to get the special approved - but my understanding is that's true with all the special purchases. In general terms, I don't think it would be fair for Alaistair to get to be the only person with an evil power boosting move because he got there first - I think the generic 'ability to increase power levels' thing should work fine as a category of special move.

As I stated multiple times, I would gladly accept the drawbacks if I'm allowed to learn such a tech Also, I know I ain't gonna they it free, that would be completely unfair. I'll meet any requirement I have to in order to learn this technique
