Hey everyone, so I been reading on the Dragon Balls poll, and had this curious little thought about how they might work. Right now, let us see what the previous topic has brought us:
Option 1:
Now my suggestion:
Dragon balls are initially 'spawned' through a saga. This saga ends up revealing their existence to anyone who cares about them, let it be through Scargot or through the creation of the DB radar. If the DB radar idea is done it could become a 'item' and only people with a DB radar can enter this saga. Each dragon ball will appear in a different location and trigger a saga thread, meaning you are most likely to only get 1 dragon ball during the initial spawning.
Now the tricky thing: Obtaining a dragon ball isn't the only thing you got to worry about. Anyone with a DB radar can issue a 'dragon ball challenge' to someone after the saga, a challenge that allows you to either fight someone in a DE after announcing your Dragon Ball Challenge. If someone doesn't accept your challenge within a fair time-span (like let's say less than a week) said player will be considered to have lost their DB.
At the same time if you're in a DE/Saga and someone does a Dragon Ball Challenge, you either 'have the DB' on you (one, since I don't see people carrying more than one + fighting) or you automatically have your DBs stolen if you don't stop the challenger within a small time-span. (note, if more than one person challenges while you are at a 'defensive' moment, you pretty much will have ALL challengers enter said thread. This basically shows the Frieza like moment when he just arrives as the crew tried to use the DBs.
DB challenges have a RL cooldown of 2 weeks (or more)
Final moment: Summoning the dragon is another saga. How the mechanic works is something I'm not sure of... but basically your final chance to snatch a wish is here. Perhaps if you intimidate/kill the owner to give the wish to you before they can get their wish granted within x amount of rounds... or something like that, dunno...
Option 1:
Dragon Balls w/ zeni
Why: Using a metric like zeni provides a meaningful distraction to power level grinding in exchange for a big payoff should you manage to collect all of the dragon balls. Being able to purchase a predetermined find also allows the player to maintain their storytelling narrative rather than relying upon the staff for dragon ball generation at random. It also provides a clear method of how to find them and how challenges could be managed..
Concept:
Dragon ball finds can be purchased for zeni, you would thread out the find as normal but you can not close the thread for a weeks time.
Now here is the catch. The dragon ball that you find is randomly generated by the staff, 1-7. If it is already owned by another player, a challenge occurs. If the defending player loses the challenge or fails to accept it within a week, they lose their dragon ball to the other player.
Notes:
When you purchase a dragon ball that another player has it still goes to the store, not the other player. This is necessary in order to keep it from being cyclic.
If you already own the dragon ball that the staff randomly generates, you lose your money and are out of luck. It basically means that you invested time and effort into finding a ball but didn't find it.
If a dragon ball is rolled for the same dragon ball that a team is currently threading out a find for, that player (and their team) may work to oppose the other group for the same dragon ball.
Dragon balls can not be put in banks, but can be given to other players for safe keeping if you trust them. If the player ICly betrays you that is just the name of the game.
I'd recommend about 500z per ball lotto, as rolling duplicate balls will make it rather expensive even this low. You must finish one find before looking for another.
