(Making this a separate thread to the other after-life threads as it has a much more specific focus).
Due to the recent influx of a couple of dead men to the Other World, and the escalation of ideological conflict on the roleplay, it's about time that you and I sit down and throw a few ideas around regarding one of the main draws of the Afterlife; the tuition one might seek under the wise masters who reside here.
I'm going to explain my 'vision' for the tutors, and the process and limitations of training under them, before offering up a few other 'alternative' choices. After that, I will take into account any alternative suggestions that you make, or any modifications to my existing ideas.
Tutor Mechanics
It is my belief that not every soul who dies should have access to kai/hell tuition. Some would not be great enough, or with deeds in life that enable them this training. Instead, they will move on to heaven. There may be ways they could earn Kai tuition after initial judgement by Yemma, such as tournament or an appeal. However, Kais won't pick just any body.
Hell tuition would work slightly differently. Rather than being judged worthy enough of training from the Gods, it's up to the damned to seek out methods of furthering the self, by past villains or demons. I am of the impression that people in Hell should have easier access to tutors than the 'righteous', due to having a harder time while alive to get access to boosts or tuition (usually); but, the Hell tutors will have less effective techniques to teach than the Kais (in general).
Mechanically, kais/hell tutors would pick a 'student' based on the quality modifiers we currently use to grade. Different tutors would have different 'standards': in my head, 'King Kai' would have the highest standards (due to teaching the Spirit Bomb, which we don't want everyone running around with).
Alternatively, each Kai could have a 'quota': They can only teach a certain amount of students their special technique before they're 'done'. Finished. No more students.
A) The Kais
Righteous warriors with good hearts who fall in battle may have the chance to be trained by the mystical Kais who operate beyond Yemma's Gate. 'Snake Way' has expanded into Snake Ways, with four routes, one to each of the Cardinal Kais (North/'King', East, South, West).
Each Kai would teach the Kaioken, and a 'special' attack akin to the Spirit Bomb (which would be North Kai's to teach).
A.i) The Kaioken:
As seen in the series, this 'technique' allows for a temporary boost in speed and strength, but over-use and pushing yourself too far with the technique results in exhaustion, internal damage and possibly death.
Mechanically, I believe the Kaioken should operate on a similar basis to Android 'Overdrive' - an addition to transformation multiplier. This enables it to remain valid throughout the game. There are no canon examples of Kaioken stacking with transformations, however, Goku was momentarily able to use Kaioken simultaneously with Super Saiya-jin during the anime-only 'Otherworld Tournament' saga. You may not agree with this sentiment, but allow me to explain why I believe Kaioken should be as such.
If Kaioken is treated as an independent transformation, it'll (usually) already be outclassed by other transformations by the time someone dies. And, given the current meta-game, with many people closing in on the Tier 1/SSj Tier of power, I believe the Kaioken as stated below is the best option for the technique to remain relevant throughout.
There would be tiers of Kaioken: In my head, I have a +x1, +x3 and +x5. This could be changed to 1,2,3. Each 'tier' of Kaioken would be able to be used for longer, and you'd only be able to pick one per fight. For instance, the +x1 iteration of the Kaioken could be used for 15 posts of a fight, the +x3 for 10, the +x5 for 5 or less. This would make Super Saiyan a 13x, 15x, or 17x temporarily. However, when the Kaioken 'runs down', the user is exhausted; I'm not sure how this works mechanically, but they would have to RP tiredness/injury and be incapable of resuming the Kaioken transformation (alternatively, they could do a theoretical 'last stand' and assume the Kaioken again, but once it is finished the body shuts down and you've died, no matter what 'tier' of Kaioken you choose).
A.ii) The 'Special' (Spirit Bomb, etc):
Each Kai would have a different special. Depending on if the Kai's exist on a quality tier, or a 'quota', would depend if all were as potent as the Spirit Bomb. If the quality tier system I suggested is used, then the Spirit Bomb would be the most potent of the Kai specials, but the others would still be impressive or useful. Any suggestions for South, East and West Kai's special technique would be appreciated (Pikkon trained under West Kai, so maybe some of his techniques could be appropriated for that Kai. Idk about the other two or their students).
B) The Hell Tutors
Those who are damned to hell won't have the opportunity to be 'judged' by Yemma to be fit for the Kais, nor have a chance to prove themselves after the fact. They are the punished and the lost, and yearn to escape from their prisons. However, there are those in Hell who in life held great power and importance. Should you run into these souls, they may be able to teach you a thing or two that you could use should you find a way back to life.
I am of the opinion that those who die and are sent to Hell should have an easier time getting tuition than those who are good of heart. This is due to 'good guy' boosts being more prominent in the living world, the Holy Water and the Unlock Potential. However, in exchange, their techniques would be lesser.
These 'tutors', in my scheme, would be canon villains. I can see Dabura/Frieza/Cell/Bardock being potentials, perhaps others as well. They would teach their signature techniques, or variants upon them if an existing rank (such as Arcosian Leader and Death Ball) already owns/teaches the signature technique. An option might be to allow training under 2 separate hell tutors, due to the weaker techniques.
An alternative option is an evil Makai(o) equivalent for Hell, demons who teach corrupted versions of the Kai techniques (for instance, the Makaioken).
C) Potential Processes for Tuition
There are several options regarding processes for my above ideas:
C.i) Staff-controlled NPCs
The tutors in the afterlife could be controlled by staff, similarly to how Yemma currently functions. The responses would most likely be fairly basic and non-time consuming, but it would allow us to set custom tasks and/or quests as pre-requisites to learning the techniques. The downsides to this is waiting for staff responses, which as you know can take time on top of the rest of our duties.
C.ii) Self-Process (Solo Method)
A list of tutors and requirements would be made. This would allow players who meet these requirements to 'solo' their training under a master, with staff approval, and gain techniques under their own steam. It would be heavily monitored as to not break the 'canon' of character attributes, and so forth.
