TO BE BOUND BY WORDS AND HEART
Night. A time which she had not trained in for a long while. In the desert, over a year ago, upon Earth, she would train. In to the night hours with darkness surrounding her, she'd work in the day and train in the evening. At that time, she had been inefficient and useless. Her training brought minimal results. Now? She had learned much. From Emer. Hinawa. Levlidian. Takeshi. Kazar. Collan. Raisu. Marcel. Those she had met upon Earth who had entered her life even if only for a short moment. Each had handed her a tool to succeed.
And in this night she would use them. The planets reflecting light from the skies above onto the darkened blue foliage below. She was within an open plain, at least for a short distance. Out in the open and smooth, the Kagami once again donned less than was normal for her. Bandages wrapped tightly over her torso and stomach. Her slacks covered her legs, yet she was shoeless. Gloveless. Maskless. Her hair lightly sparkled with that odd rainbow of her people, yet mostly remained silver when hidden from the light.
Grazing her feet over the grass of the Namekian planet, her stretches and movements were more a dance than that of strain and stress. Moving one muscle into another; fluidity and peace. She had lost that. Lost it long ago. And as Mitra and Levlidian desperately tried to calm that heart that had been broken, torn, and hardened. They were losing. Her and her partner were losing their battles against their own selves. And she found herself wanting.
Hiding her power? Not in this evening. She begged someone to test her. Test this spark that was finding fuel upon the watery planet of Namek.

To Grail, one who had never been off of his home planet; Namek was a completely new and amazing experience that had gripped the sickly mage with wonder and delight. Unfortunately for several days after his initial arrival he was confined to a bed, recovering from the stresses of transforming into his monster form against his will, and then subsequently having the ever-loving-shit knocked out of him by Rhytid, one of Namek's defenders. Grail did not blame him in the slightest, and indeed viewed the Namekian favorably for his stalwart protection of his home and the mercy he had shown Grail. He could have slew him outright, after all. Still, even the small glimpse of the blue and green world that he could view from his bedside window was an absolute pleasure for him. The smells of the Ajissa trees on the air, the taste of the Namekian waters on his tongue, the sensation of humidity against his skin. It was all new to Grail, and even after he had taken his time to recover from his delicate state he hadn't traveled far from the little village that had taken care of him he hadn't yet had time to wander far. This night however was perfect for Grail to begin his personal exploration of Namek's surface.
Namekian nights were a relatively rare thing to experience for an offworlder, due to the number of circumstances that had to come about for it to happen. Namek was not like most other worlds with one sun that it orbited, instead Namek was the center world of its solar system and it was orbited by three different stars. A Trinary system, as it was called. Thus Namek would normally always be bathed in sunlight from all sides, with only a rare occurrence of the singular moon that orbited Namek coming into alignment to eclipse one of the three suns, with the other two hidden by the planet itself. Even then the night was not the deep darkness as known on most worlds, instead ending up as something akin to twilight. Twilight with a great full moon high in the sky, blocking out the greater light of of the star behind it. To Grail it made the blue-green planet even more beautiful to look upon.
Yet out upon his wanderings, Grail's staff making a rhythmic click against the ground as he walked with no hurry in mind, he came upon a different kind of beauty, something less celestial in nature but no less welcome to the Hybrid mage. He found Durian, a fine example of a Kagami pureblood, training alone in the wilderness. Well, found was an overstatement. With the amount of power that Durian was throwing around in her training it'd take a deaf, blind, and crippled child to not be able to sense her. In comparison Grail's own energy would seem pitiful in relation to her strength, and he might go completely unnoticed by the woman depending on her level of concentration on her training. It wasn't as if he was a threat to this woman.
Either way Grail would slowly approach Durian by walking, and he would eventually top a small hill that had hidden her from his view up until then, and when he got his first glimpse of her he would stop dead in his tracks. Grail would stand there, transfixed at the woman's gleaming red eyes, the glittering silver hair that sparkled the colors of the rainbow from time to time in the twilight, and he would be forcibly reminded of his mother; the only other Kagami he had ever met thus far. Swirling memories would sweep Grail's consciousness away for a time before he managed to recover, and he would wipe the tears upon his cheeks away with a whispered promise, ”I'll free them all..”
Getting his emotions under control Grail would step up, standing as tall as his malformed body would allow, and he would call out to the woman with an earnest tone, ”I did not expect to meet one of the Kagami here upon this world. I am known as...the Grim Hermit...” Unknowing as to why, at the last moment as Grail was about to give his name he hesitated, and instead decided to use the name the people of Konats had given him out of loathing. A tiny whisper in his mind told Grail that it was shame, and he recognized Ebonbane's dry wit in that voice.
Giving a small cough Grail tried to recover his composure from his hesitation, and continued with his greeting, Please, I would speak with you, M'lady. Would you permit me to approach?”
This question would actually be a reasonable one given Grail's appearance. Dark clothing, muted and dull red eyes combined with a sickly grey pallor to his skin and a more dull white to his hair. Grail looked like a very sick example of a Kagami, his pointed Konatsian ears merely lending a bit more strangeness to his appearance. Grail was unnerving to look at by most Konatsians, and he knew no reason why a Kagami would not feel the same revulsion, but he still wished to speak with this woman. It was his first chance in decades to learn more of the other half of his Heritage, of the people he was born of yet separated from. Gripping the petrified wood of his staff ever tighter, Grail waited for the woman's response...

TO BE BOUND BY WORDS AND HEART
The clicking of the staff would be heard far after the kagami sensed him. Not overly stressing in power, but still at a level that she was bound to notice, Durian would keep her senses on this approaching power. She didn’t halt her movements, oh no. The spark in the Kagami festered and sizzled, allowing each smooth movement she made continue to swim through the air with elegant purpose. She needed to hone her body, mind, and soul together. Feel the ki throughout her and practice with her senses. Now and again she’d close her eyes to the alien planet, using the ki about her to see rather than vision. And in moments, she’d open them again to marvel at the beauty and check her practice.
Even as the man stood upon the hill, she would not cease her training. He didn’t attack. He didn’t call out. He did nothing to show he wanted her attention. And while she already had part of it on him, she saw no reason to return the silence with anything other than its equal. There was a whisper in the wind from the hybrid, but it was lost to the female. Continuing her training, her movements, smooth and relaxed enough that yet she had not worked up a sweat. A calm time of inner working with minimal outter. A flow.
In time the man would let his words echo across the field. The woman took one last swipe of her bare foot across the ground, body low and bent towards the blue blades. Then, she’d stand. Straight, tall, her red eyes lifting for the hill the being stood upon. Vision resting upon him as well as her senses, she’d have heard him and be waiting to reply from the silence that surrounded her. Or she might wait. The Grim Hermit? Who would call him that and why? She found herself questioning this when a light prick was felt in her mind. Not painful in the least, but a message.
Mitra had noticed something familiar about the man. While she couldn’t say exactly what, as she couldn’t speak freely to one of her sisters, she wondered if the man did have bonds with the blood of her vessel. The goddess would express as much to Durian, which would grant a mental nod from the female. Kagami or not, this man was unknown. And if Mitra wasn’t even sure, then she couldn’t trust him as she had Emer all those months ago.
He asked to approach. While her senses could be wrong, the male was lower than her. Yet... as she had told Takeshi and Mithanil long ago, power was not the only force to be reckoned with. It wasn’t said in those words, but it still held true all the same.
“Do as you will.”
The Kagami answered. The red of her eyes remaining on him a moment more, then leaving. She would not fully leave him from her senses, but she would continue on. He asked if he could speak and approach, getting permission to be closer. In her own mind, he didn’t wish to interrupt her. So he wouldn’t. The movements of the female began again, though faster. Smooth and cutting through the air, like swimming jabs and kicks in a never ending string.
The man’s appearance gave her no second thought. Having met with Mammon and Dantalion times before in the most odd of appearances, not to mention thinking that the monsters of her past were much more painful than the grotesque appearance of an unknown creature, she took no weight in his looks. Just that spark in her blood.
"Is there a reason for your approach? Or do you just desire companionship in the dark?"
She would speak once he'd get closer. Not ceasing motion, but would bring attention and show she was listening.

The Kagami woman either found Grail to be far too weak to be a threat to her or else was willing to look past someone's appearance before judging them, as she had acquiesced to his request without so much as slowing down in her movements. In fact it seemed she decided to quicken her movements, vitality and emotion seeming to fill the air with every sudden shift of momentum she caused. She whipped around the area almost as if she were a graceful dancer, but the force of her movements were too full of violent intent; the woman was clearly very agitated, at odds with the grace of her movements.
For his part Grail would simply give a nod of acceptance to her answer and would approach, his staff again clicking on the ground as he made his way to sit upon a nearby boulder in the area. He leaned against it slowly, suppressing a groan as the shift in position caused his twisted spine some pain, and once he was in place he adjusted the cloak that adorned his shoulders to shield him from the cold of the twilight and gripped his staff more firmly. He sat and watched the Kagami as she continued her movements, until she finally asked him for his purpose there. It took a few moments for Grail to frme his answer, trying best to think of how to say it so it would not sound strange.
”If you are asking why I came here; I would merely note that your presence is being flaunted as we speak by your energy and your motions. If you ask why I am still here then.....My mother is the only Kagami I had ever known, and she now lies dead and buried. She had not the chance to give me a proper education in regard to the culture and history of my Kagami kin before her death, and I remain woefully ignorant of my own kind.
“Before me is the first Kagami I have seen since my own mother. Thus the source of my curiosity which keeps me here.” Grail would silence himself, letting the natural noises of Namek take the forefront for a while, combined only with the displacement of air caused by Durian's movements. It was obvious what he was saying. Grail had finally found another of his own kind and he was hoping to be able to learn of what the Kagami were from her. It was natural for someone of a certain race to be curious of their culture and history, was it not? To know what they had come from; to know what they truly were. Perhaps that thought might pull at Durian's heartstrings a little, to know one of their kind that knew nothing of themselves, or perhaps she might think it a blessing for them? After all the Kagami had gone through great horror and pain in the last few hundreds years of their history, and not knowing of that pain...well, there was meaning to the saying “Ignorance is Bliss”.
Before Durian would likely be able to come up with a proper response to that previous statement Grail would continue, his eyes looking out over the beautiful Namekian landscape, looking everywhere except at Durian. At the start it would seem he was answering her earlier question of if he desired companionship. ”I do not feel a need for companionship in the shadows, however. The shadows themselves can be a great companion to me. Always there, uncaring, without judgment. You can tell your secrets to the shadows, and they'll listen endlessly; they'll never tell a soul.... but just maybe, just maybe, if you listen closely, you can hear the shadows whisper back some advice.
“I feel it may benefit you to try to seek advice from the shadows, M'lady. Perhaps they have an answer to your boiling blood and agitation this night...if you tell them the cause?” Grail would finally let his eyes turn back to Durian's form, meaning glinting in his dull red eyes. It seemed the man had managed to pick up on Durian's agitation and frustration. He was offering a trade of sorts, if Durian took the time to work through his words. To trade knowledge for knowledge. He asked Durian for knowledge of the Kagami people, and in return he offered to be “the shadows” for her, silently listening to her problems, advising her where he could, and promising secrecy. To be her confidante, essentially.

TO BE BOUND BY WORDS AND HEART
The man approached slowly, Durian could hear the clicking of a cane and the pressing of footsteps. He settled near upon a rock, making small but mostly unheeded sounds. He was settling in, nothing odd about that when he had already asked to.
“Not many seek power out unless looking to challenge it. Or possibly study it.”
Durian made mention as to why he said he came there. He had interest. That’s why he had showed up. But interest in what? The Kagami was fully aware she wasn’t hiding herself. And while on other days she would have reprimanded someone for the flaunting, in this moment she didn’t give a damn. But his reasons for staying had given a slight hiccup earlier in her movements. The reddened eyes of the woman snapping to him and the slightest falter in her fluidity.
Her thoughts swirling about his reasons for staying, her movements would once again slow. Tapering out of her focused dance to rest both feet solidly upon the ground. Hands free of her movements, she’d place them upon her hips in a relaxed fashion and simply breathe in the air. Facing this creature. This part Kagami. He’d then whisper the promise of an ear. Someone to listen to problems and stresses. It was likely obviously . Even in the search for fluidity in movement, there was a pressure and a need. She was forcing the irritation from her body and letting her energy swell around her.
“My secrets are my own.”
Levlidian even had problems getting her inner thoughts from her, the Kagami having turned more silent towards dealing with her issues.
“The essence of life itself. Doubt. Pain. Fear. They all nestle somewhere within us, but the question is when they will rear their ugly heads.”
Stretching her hands into the air, her fingers just barely joining her hands as light pops and cracks would come from her joints and spine as she outstretched them. Durian would keep her eyes upon the creature. Focusing on him. Wondering why he wanted her to speak of her own troubles.
“What can I do to sate your curiosity? I’m not your mother, but I am Kagami.”
Lowering her hands from the skies above, she gave a simple motion with her one hand for him to speak. Inviting him to ask of her or give her more of an idea of what he wanted to know.
“I can try to mend the distance between that and what you’ve lost.”

Ah, rejection. Grail had been expecting it, truthfully. It was logical to be rejected in that situation; Grail himself was too new, and suspicious seeming to have a normal person put their trust in him, especially in the situation that they were in right now. It still stung, despite the logic, that he was not trusted by his kinsmen.
Of course the Kagami woman continued, and through her speech Grail came to realize that she was somewhat like him. She too was damaged by the experiences of her life; only a mind that had faced regular terror, horror, or pain would have such a cynical outlook on life. Doubt, Fear, and Pain were the essence of life itself? Even with all that had happened to him in his life, even with all of the brutal and inhumane treatment he had received at the hands of the Kashvar, with the crippling pain his playing host to Ebonbane brought him, and with the terrible pain of not having been with his mother when she had passed....even with all of that Grail did not view life so darkly. He felt another small sting in his heart at Durian's words; and he gave a small sigh under his breath soon after.
”Our history. Our culture. I would know everything you have to tell me. What are our values, what is held precious? Do we value the Arts or Strength? What do our racial tendencies lean towards? Are we great crafters, skilled magicians, honorable knights, genius technologists, or spiritual shamans? What victories can our people claim, what pain and suffering have we been through?
“...In relation, one more question. Who, or what, are the Saiyans? Who are they that my Mother's last request to me before I taken from her was not to hate the Saiyans?”

Durian wasn’t sure what the male had thought in reaction. He didn’t seem overly impressed nor pleased, yet he didn’t leave. Was he studying her? Was he thinking of his own questions? She may or may not find out, but it wasn’t much of concern to her. If he left, she returned to what she was doing. He stayed, she’d speak to him. As of yet, she didn’t feel endangered by his presence.
But for as to what he wanted to know. Everything. The answer was basically everything. A small smile tugged at the Kagami’s lips at his answer. “You have a thirst for knowledge.” The obvious statement held a hint of amusement in her tone. Many didn’t know of their past or their race, and often times they didn’t care. This one sought out his kind and asked enough questions to write a book or more on. Vague questions to give large answers. But then one final thing. A slight pause.
Saiyans.
The smile vanished and her face hardened. She didn’t hate them. Not as a whole anymore. She had Levlidian and there were Saiyans that had proved they weren’t all monsters. But… she had seen many. Lifting a hand, she ran it through her hair in a slow fashion. Thinking. How would she start? How to explain the atrocities that race committed without urging his hatred forward? A tightening of her jaw and her lips straightening into a line were solid signs of her dilemma.
“Your mother didn’t with hatred to consume you. And I can tell you from personal experience that it has no benefit to your life to let your soul burn with such emotion.”
Speaking slowly, she tried to measure her words and thoughts. The hand that moved through her hair rested on her neck, uncertain how much she should tell him. But if the positions were reversed, she would want him to tell her of her own people.
“The Kagami were a peaceful people of Aridot, centuries and centuries ago. I can’t say I know exactly what the culture was back then, though from my parents’ stories I believe we were ritualistic. Spiritual, artistic. We had a harmony with life around us, and in such, we gained the blessing of being a vessel. Kagami share their lives, their bodies as much theirs as a temple to another power. In times of old, our harmony was shared with these goddesses housed within us.”
The red eyes that had been more focused inwards in her thoughts and looking to observe the planet around her now would be focused upon Grail. Steady, serious, impassive.
“Saiyans are a race of power and focused on conquering. They conquered Aridot. Our people were slain and survivors taken prisoner. We were made slaves. We built their homes and served their desires. In recent years, Kagami have ‘risen’ to a higher standing. We can be viewed as a lesser equal in some instances if of mixed blood or taken as a mate by our owners.”
Letting her hand fall from her neck, she’d attempt to wave off her fury for what they had done. What they were still doing.
“The Saiyans destroyed the people of Aridot. But the Kagami we have the potential to be is due to them. Our power rivals their own as we’ve adapted to them, whether they realize it or not. The Kagami of now are nothing more than fodder to the Saiyan race. But it is my belief that we possess the potential for whatever we desire. Grasp the spirituality of our ancestors. Embrace the warrior that the Saiyan’s cruelty has granted us. But first, the chains need be broken. So that all of our race can experience that freedom of potential.”

As he spoke his questions Grail couldn't help but to have some idle thoughts bubble to the surface of his mind; his senses taking in the small amused smile that Durian made in response to his curiosity. Grail's thoughts turned once again to his mother, of the smiles she gave him, especially when amused by his childish actions or his loving hugs. Those smiles had warmed his soul, and he never thought of anyone as beautiful as his mother when she gave him her smile. Here and now Grail felt that Durian, just as she smiled at him, had a similar level of beauty. Perhaps all Kagami women were so capable? It was something Grail would have to see himself, of course by making many Kagami smile as possible.
Of course as Grail reached the point where he spoke of the Saiyans the look on Durian's face changed completely, almost exactly opposite to her previous emotion her mood was now tense and worried, a hint of rage bubbling under the surface. Grail knew then that the cause of Durian's pain; the creatures that caused this woman to view life as full of doubt and pain, were the Saiyans. He knew also that these creatures were the same ones that had caused his own mother unimaginable pain. She had told him a little of what she had gone through in a world away from Konats, of the scars, which Grail had later learned were wounds from a whip, that had been inflicted upon her back.
That; the idea that the Saiyans were the ones to harm his mother so, and now that they had harmed this Kagami, the first of his kin that he had the chance to meet in a long long time, had already set Grail's blood on a low boil. He could tell however that Durian was hesitating; she didn't want to divulge all the details so as to keep Grail from coming to hate the Saiyans. Same as his mother. That alone kept Grail from raging then and there at just the hints that Durian was leaving. Yet when Durian got into the details of what the Saiyans had done...
Gripping the shaft of his stone staff tightly in his right hand Grail grit his teeth and closed his eyes, his face skewed into an emotion of pain and wrath. It would be obvious that Durian's hints at what the Saiyans did had awoken some painful memories in Grail's mind, but he would not speak or even move. Instead his anger became like a creature unto itself, the sense of rage and hatred beating on the air. None of it was aimed at Durian, but she could easily tell that Grail was barely controlling his own rage by how much hostility was emanating from him! His magical power, which Grail hadn't lost control of for a decade now, went wild! Black smoky flames burst from his body, settling on the grasses near him and starting to burn the greenery to ash! The shadows around Grail himself deepened several magnitudes, and for a small moment it seemed as if Grail was going to be completely swallowed by the growing darkness.
”Control yourself, fool!” A sharp command broke through the air, the voice seeming to come from every direction at once and no direction at all, perhaps coming from the shadows themselves. Who or whatever it was that had spoken, the words stopped Grail immediately, the small black flames that had been spreading from his position died immediately, leaving a ring of bare earth and grass dust around him.
A long drawn out moment of silence followed this, before Grail finally gave a deep sigh, his grip on his staff loosening and his eyes opening. He murmured under his breath, ”Much appreciated, Ebonbane...” before Grail turned his attention to Durian, making sure she was okay. The flames would not have come even close to her position, given their distance, and she was magnitudes stronger than him, but he was still worried that he might have harmed her somehow. His magic was dark and volatile, after all, as evidenced by its ability to kill the grass just by being exerted in a small way.
”My apologies, M'lady. I have control of myself again. I thank you for your knowledge given. It merely reminded me of the trials of my mother, and those of the other half of my blood, the Konatsians. They too were under the control of another race for a time of their history. The Kashvarr had made a deal with them, to remove their planet from its former position and move it to this Galaxy in return for what amounted to subjects for magical experiments. I myself do not even know if the threat the Konatsians sought to escape from was even real, but the Kashvarr certainly abused the deal to the fullest. Hence my own appearance and magics. I am, as they say, one of the 'successful' experiments.” Grail would slowly get to his feet, standing away from the boulder he had been sitting on, and would give Durian a proper bow, the effort obvious on his face as he bent forward into the bow. He would then stand straight and continue his words.
”I vow to free the Kagami from their slavery, no matter what form it may take, and restore them to their former glory, or to die in the attempt. Will you assist me, M'lady? There is a spell I have long desired to complete the casting of, but it requires the aid of a pureblood Kagami. Grail would finish his words with an oath and a request from Durian. What could be the nature of the aid he required?

TO BE BOUND BY WORDS AND HEART
Expressing their race was easier. She didn’t have to focus upon Grail and his reactions as much as she had to recall her own memories. What her parents had told her. The whispers of what Mitra would know. The past of her people wasn’t stressful or damning. Not when they were on their own. How she wished they could be as that again… Peaceful on Aridot and successfully thriving upon their own planet. But that wasn’t what happened.
Her attention shifted onto Grail by this point. The revelation to one of her own kind the destruction they had faced in the past. The hopeless present that chained them. The Saiyans had ended the race of Kagami centuries ago for what it had been, and now all that remained was a dulled reflection of what had been. Durian did not blame his reaction. She did not blame the agony and fury that gripped the male before her. One could obviously see the tension in his muscles, the way he gripped his staff. The air almost seemed to thicken. The atmosphere reacting to his rage that was consuming both him and whatever power he seemed to possess.
Durian’s own energy stirred within her. The body of the female beginning to burn as she watched this magical power rage on. The shadows near coming to life and the male’s body flaming as a furnace. Would she have to escape his presence? She did not wish to be struck by this unknown power, whether it came across weaker than her or not.
“Hermit.”
It was spoken about when his other voice would crack through the air. Her own voice aggressive and demanding attention only to be overcut by a strange voice emanating from the area. A raised brow from the Kagami would note confusion, interest, and curiosity. It halted him. Halted the Grim Hermit before her and stopped the thick air, burning, and squirming shadows. The reddened eyes of the female Kagami looking over the surface of the planet with dedication observation. What magic was this? Certainly nothing she had encountered so far. There was a renewed caution towards this male as her gaze shifted back up to him. He was calmer. Their was silence between them. But Durian made no move to escape nor run. To her, it was all understandable. Even if she didn’t want to be in the way of a cascading violent Kagami.
In time, the man would murmur and look to her, the Kagami merely patiently waiting. When he’d apologize, he’d receive an understanding nod. It was a lot to swallow, the basic death of their race eons ago. The only memory of who they were trapped in literal and figurative chains upon another planet who didn’t give a damn about their future. He gave his explanation. His Kagami and Konatsian blood. He was made of two races torn apart by the universe. It was… unfortunate.
“My heart goes out to you. Life is cruel to many, yet I certainly don’t wish it on you when your kind merely looked for safety.”
It was such a twisted thing. In order to run from one threat, they ran into the arms of another. The man would then make effort to stand, bowing before her in what was likely a form of respect. It somewhat surprised her, due to her own convictions, but she would not meet his gesture.
“I request you grant me pardon, as I will no longer bow to another being.”
Unless she was forced beyond her own means, she would not willingly do so. Not to him. Not to a friend. Not to Levlidian.
The proclamation would take her off guard, made evident by the slight widening of her eyes and second raise of her brow. He was making a vow to free the Kagami? Did he even understand what that meant? She fought down the smirk that threatened to take over her face. He was like her, at least partially. It might have been to a different extent, but the end goal was the same. She had let hatred and fury corrupt her until all she had wanted was their race slaughtered and hers freed. He may not be to that point, but such a quick vow was of the same essence.
“I’ll join anyone wishing to free my race. You may call on me at any time.”
How could she say no to that? But… what she hesitated on was whether he meant her assistance was for what this pure blooded Kagami was needed for. Watching him with the caution she had gained from his outburst, she’d look over the form of the man once more. He had seen things, a life she would not wish to witness due to these… experiments on his form and self. Seeing into the past of anyone often held darknesses that only further pitted her own.
“What would you have me do?”
She wanted more specifics before she fully committed to whatever his cause was. Mitra plucked at her mind. A suggestion of what lay ahead. But only Grail would hold the answer to that. And in a flash of remembrance, the woman would hold her head high. Proud of her race and herself. The revelation of her blood to someone who wished to have his heart and mind open to what used to be, she’d mention something they hadn’t passed.
“Refer to me as Salak. Who is the Grim Hermit?”
His name. What was his name.

Given the situation that the Kagami were in; a situation of enforced servitude towards another race, Grail could easily comprehend the reason behind Durian's refusal to bow to another. She had managed to find a level of freedom for herself after a life of bondage; of course the thought of submitting herself to anyone for any reason was abhorrent to her. So Grail would give a nod in response to her words begging a pardon for not bowing. ”Understandable. No need for a pardon.”
Their conversation continued on to the point where Durian asked the question that Grail knew she was going to ask, with the exact tone in her voice that Grail expected her to use. It was only logical, and Durian seemed to be quite a logical woman. Grail would begin to move away from the boulder he stood near, moving over towards an empty flat area with nothing but Namek's blue grass growing. The staff in his hands was shifted, the bottom tip of the petrified wood igniting with a tiny black flame. This flame was pressed to the ground, and as if the staff were a pen Grail began to write on the ground, his ink that black flame, burning the grass in a very precise line to ash. The inverted form of a Magic Circle began to take shape from the words and symbols Grail was writing, many of which made no sense to anyone other than Grail, and many that had some deeply disturbing sense about them for someone like Durian.
As he continued to write the symbols on the ground Grail would explain, ”You have seen the magic I wield now. You may or may not have guessed its origin, but if you had not... it is indeed Demonic magics. The Kashvarr placed within me a demonic beast known as a Nightwalker, a powerful, perhaps the most powerful, type of Shadow Demon. It gives me access to its magic, and I am slowly making it my own.
“I will note that Demons and their magics are not inherently evil, yet they are volatile in nature and easily used to cause destruction. Nightwalker magic however is still just a tool, and I plan to use it thus. The volatility of the magic is made even more difficult to control due to the.... imperfect seals that Kashvarr used. They were experimenting, after all, they knew not the proper spells to use until after it was done, and now only I can properly adjust the seals...” For a long few moments Grail stopped talking altogether, the magic circle taking most of his attention as he made sure to make every single line with the utmost precision his corrupted body could muster. When he reached a certain point however he would stop writing for a time, leaning on his staff as if resting.
”Where was I...? Oh, yes. Thus I created a spell to limit the damage these magics could do even if I were to lose control of them. I found the way long ago during my imprisonment but did not cast the spell then. I can only cast this spell once in my life, and its effects will stay with me for the rest of this life.”
Moving once again after his short rest Grail started to finish the rest of the Magic Circle, still continuing his monologue explanation. ”It is a Blood Oath spell. I vow not to harm a target with my shadow magics, and my own magical power makes it so, forever protecting the target from me. The target is based on blood, freely given, and I long ago prepared a sample of pure Konatsian blood for the spell, but I could never find a Kagami to complete the spell. I would need but a small vial of blood, less than a cup's volume. Then, once I complete the spell, I'll never be able to hurt a Kagami or Konatsian with my shadow magics, even by accident....
“Will you lend me your blood, so that I might never harm our brethren so long as I shall live?” Grail would give a little flourish as he apparently finished the Magic Circle, and looking up he would focus his stare on Durian's own eyes, waiting for her answer.

TO BE BOUND BY WORDS AND HEART
His nod would be met with hers. At the very least there was no bad feelings for her not bowing. There was nothing more needed to be said there. What was more important is what he wanted from her. Hints and clues were well and good, but Durian wanted details. Explanations. The male was on the move, staff in hand as he would find an area that he preferred. The Kagami woman didn’t stay overall near to him, more so shifting in her spot to keep her eye on him, walking somewhat to follow if she felt he got too far that she’d have difficulty hearing him if he spoke.
Magic was shown. The staff gaining a flame as he used it to burn into the ground. She could feel an unsettled sort of feeling creep across her skin. This wasn’t what she had expected, nor Mitra. At least, she didn’t believe so. This looked to be something out of her own knowledge. She was on edge watching these symbols, yet she’d listen. She asked so she would hear him out. Demonic magic. Shadow demon. Truth be told, the Kagami felt rather neutral about what he told. The demons she had met were troublesome, but not overly aggressive nor infuriating to her. Wiley creatures but not upon the line that the Saiyans drew in blood. If anything, it sounded as if the hermit had a twisted sort of Kagami goddess shoved within himself. Different in so many ways, but a similar experience.
He went on to explain how it wasn’t inherently evil. Good to note, but she was under that impression already. There appeared to be flaws in his magics? Or that’s how it seemed to her. The topic of magic and implanting demons into people was not something she had come across before. Durian would have remained silent even until he had rested. Leaning upon his staff and ceasing his writing momentarily. His explanation continued. A spell to limit himself. There was a slight bit of narrowing of the eyes at the woman’s disbelief. Not many in this world would cast magic so that they would be weaker. Especially a spell that would last until their death.
Then it all came out. He’d need her blood. Her back stiffened as her expression took on a darker disbelief. Did he really think she’d offer that freely? “No.” Came the cold reply. She stared at him, her red eyes on fire as she attempted to collect her thoughts. A fiery fury was making her mind race, the only reason she didn’t further act was due to her goddess. Mitra speaking calming words and other paths of advice for her to stay and listen further. Or better yet, explain her no.
“First of all. I find it foolish. It’s an excuse for any race to use ours as meatshields. Distractions. Bargaining chips. It’s a weakness and a burden that could put many lives in danger rather than shield them.”
The tone of her voice obviously strained, tension withheld within her expression and facial features. She stood where she was. Not drawing forward, not moving away. She stood her ground in a strong and aggravated stance.
“What’s more. Handing you my blood is handing you my life. At the very least, my whole story is held within my blood. You’d have every moment I experienced in your hand with easy access. At worst, this is all a trick. My blood binding me to some unknown sorcery I’ll never understand. So no. My blood is mine.”
The resolute and final answer came.
--------------------------------------------- Notes - Apologies for the lateness. I don't have any good excuse... But hopefully the reply makes up for it a little!
