Alrighty It's known that most of staff have been having real life troubles and busyness so much so that the grading has been slower than normal. In the past I know that you could suggest or volunteer to be on staff as long as you submitted like an application of some sorts or got in touch with the staff and talked about it. That got done away with since the staff grew in numbers, my suggestion here is that it be brought back temporarily so others can willing help and volunteer to grade stuff. They could be on trial runs so to speak and if they do well they could be brought on as permanent staff members. Or even this time around those that help should just help with no intention of being on the staff permanently but maybe in the future if things happen with staff (Like more real life ailments and stuff) then those that do good can help again or something. This is just me suggesting something that can help keep the site moving along at a good pace. ( Bing Gan Kaula Nicolas Mclendon Pieter Wolfbane President Bao Reikiko Tania Vi-Poi Zucceta ) Sorry if tagging most of the staff was a no-no. I know there's a thread but seeing how most are busy the thread post may not get seen/overlooked ;-;

It is getting to be that time of the year where things get busy for a lot of folks again, isn't it? As somebody who has moderated/gamemastered a few roleplays and fanfiction groups, I can really sympathize with staff being busy and real life taking its toll.
Now, I'm personally in favor of bringing on volunteers. There's obviously a few barriers to this, and probably more than I'm not aware of. A few that spring to mind is making sure volunteers understand grading and whatnot, making sure volunteers are fit for the job, and so on.
But yes, I think there is a need. Things are starting to slow a bit on that end. Again, I know life is incredibly busy and the like, I've been there. I don't mean to sound like I'm judging or demanding change. This is a fun place, and everybody should be able to enjoy. So, if people are willing to help make the load a little lighter for staff, I'd say it's a worthy cause.

I think we don't use volunteers nearly enough, especially during crunch times. These would be non-permanent positions just for grading and not much else.
We have enough staff to handle just about everything smoothly, even grading isn't as bad as it was historically, but it couldn't hurt to use an extra hand as required, without over-inflating the staff population, which I think would be a negative for a lot of reasons.

I think this is a good idea all around, as long as they're temporary positions, and not permanent ones unless the staff feel like one of the volunteers is doing a extremely excellent job and offer a staff position to the volunteer but it would more than likely have to be a unanimous vote, so there's no over-population of staff. Also, I feel like the staff should keep careful watch over the volunteers so they don't grade their own stuff and give themselves a 10,000,000 power level grade for only 100 words of effort.

I would never grade my own stuff. lol I think it's already a rule that graders cant grade their own stuff. But what Natto said, I would gladly volunteer as well.

Same as the two above. I would love to volunteer as much as my time as I can give to the site, and grade to the best of my abilities.
It is a rule that graders cannot grade their own stuff, but some people might try to do so. I'm not saying you, me, or Natto would, Xan. But it's happened in the past and might happen in the future.

Hey, if y'all need another hand to help with grading, I can help. I don't usually have a lot to do when I have free time.

Pretty much what Arti said. Having little to no social life helps

I'd love to volunteer, maybe. If I'm not completely rubbish at it.

Hopefully this gets implemented. I was going to make a thread about this myself, but saw this and not sure if it's dead or not?
Back in the AOL days, there used to be something similar. Since it was dice based, the scoring system was clear cut, so a forum/guild master was not necessary to be around for the match. The combatants would simply turn the log recorder on in the chat room (dating myself, I know), then once the match was done, send the log to the staff so they could review it. There was never really any issue, and everyone was told to keep their logs (I'm sure I have them on a CD SOMEWHERE. Would love to share them with you guys for anyone interested as to how things worked back then) just in case anything needed to be referenced.
Sort of the same thing can be applied here, as it's very easy for a staff member to review a volunteer's work as everything is right here on the forum.
I know the formula is a staff secret, and it's not as clear cut as when I used to do sparring with AOL dice (it was point spread x something ..) so it's not something that wants to get spread around, but I think opening that up to the members, or maybe select members as stated -- "volunteers", for X amount of time that would be considered the "busy season" (mostly school for some people) would help the site flow nicely.
In my opinion: - It should only be for non-DE group threads and solo's. BP's and DE threads should always be graded by staff. - No one can grade their own threads under ANY circumstances. - Threads can only be graded as they are posted "in line" in the grading thread. - Some small Zeni compensation, maybe 100 Zeni or something per volunteer grading for helping out the staff and keeping flow of the site going.
That's all I got. Hopefully, I'm not posting in a dead or denied suggestion thread. Apologize if I am.

Staff also can't grade themselves, and as a rule, they have to grade the threads to grade in order. Staff don't get any compensation, so I don't think that the Volunteers should either. Besides, it wouldn't really be a volunteer position if you were compensated for it. As for the DE/BP, Volunteers are able to grade them.

I'd love to help out myself as a part-time, volunteer grader, if it is all right, please. What I can offer is to read and grade some threads, if someone will help me with the starts. :3 Mind you, I am busy often with school and housework, so... It is just part time help, but every bit counts? :3
