So, an idea that I had was to create a board for every major planet and generate a list of quests to help out characters in their journey to grow in power.
Now, obviously this is something players a meant to outgrow, typically around their first major transformation (which I think most have at around 100K). Not everyone who joins the board will have a super strong best buddy to help boost their rise in power (constant sparring, grav training, etc). Quests would help put people on a path to power while also serving to foster cooperation and rivalry.
An easy quest might have someone battling an advanced training robot to help develop better models, or maybe just helping a down-on-his-luck farmer get his goods to market.
A standard quest might be fighting an android or having a tyrannical madman unleash his private army on an unsuspecting village in a quest for world domination.
A hard quest might have you thwarting an alien invasion or stopping the resurrection of a major demon lord.
They can be designed to be completed solo, or perhaps in such a way as to encourage people to come along.
Edit: The quests could all be made by staff, or we could have a thread people can design quests that staff can sign off on.

An interesting idea, to be sure. However, why would these quests be any different than a solo rp? Would there be inherent rewards?
Also, before polls can be made, discussion needs to happen first. Expand on the quest idea. Sell it to me!

I'd like to point out you aren't following proper procedure. It goes: 1)Discussion > 2)Polls
So don't be surprised if the poll is locked.
Now. What. Are you wanting.. Staff-run sagas or something? Something with a GM for players?

Should probably need to remove the poll and have the discussion first but I see where you're getting at and I don't really believe we'll need a quest board since you know, this isn't Fairy tail or Naruto where it would matter.
How the site system works, something such as that would be a little useless, only to create topics you could probably do on your own.

The three before me are absolutely correct. I have locked the poll for the moment. Feel free to continue the discussion though.
Personally, I don't see much of a need for quests. Why don't the players just handle story prompts like that on their own, or talk to other members about doing them with them? I could see maybe tossing a quick thread up in somewhere like the General Discussion board if enough people feel like they'd like to just randomly toss out story prompts for other players looking for ideas, but they'd just be for regular threads.

The first dbz site I was on had quests and they required thousands of words for like rescuing puppies. So personally and mechanically because they are pointless, I'm against the quests.

Don't see and advantage on implementing a system like that on a dbz board... Personally I really liked the grading system used here, so far.

Almost purely to play devil's advocate...
One of the things I used to do for the game I staffed on was to provide 'generic plots'. All plots were run by players - much like here - but some people had difficulty coming up with plot hooks, so every month I'd put between 10 and 20 generic ideas up on a board for them to take and run with.
They didn't often run with the exact idea, usually it served as a jumping off point for their own plot. It was a useful tool for that.
I can see some merit to repeating that... but I'm confused by some of the ideas in the OP here.
Do you want increased gains for using these? That seems odd to me. And why limit it to particular sections of the playerbase?
I also think you're working on some misconceptions about how power growth goes. The players I think of who really jumped up in strength out of nowhere did it mostly through group threads (not one on one training) and solo threads (again, not one on one training). Super strong best buddies don't really help you get super strong yourself markedly faster than everyone else.

Someone tried to bring in quests before. It didn't work.

To start with an aside, one system with I toyed with, very early on in the brainstorming stages, was a rivalry/motivation mechanic that'd give increased PL gains when compared with the rival, up to the point you increase past their PL, and then this would reverse. and so on. However, on thinking about it, I thought this mechanic had the potential for abuse or just not working very well. LMB serves that function on a broader level.
There is -some- merit to the idea, but it could be resolved far easier by asking for general prompts, and I dislike the idea of quests set up so that you can gain additional PL gains, as most plot is intended to be player-driven, rather than systemically or by staff.

I understand the concerns brought up. My concern was mostly that, as a new member, I don't really have any kind of 'in' with a lot of others and I feel like this kind of excludes me from a lot of things that happen and will happen in the future. I know this is an issue that haunts a lot of new members and probably accounts for a lot of them losing interest and leaving. If I don't feel like I have a way to really connect with others, then it's hard to maintain motivation.
I of course understand that it's absurd to just ask for things to be handed to me and that I have to show initiative in joining the community. I'm just trying to brainstorm ideas that would help bring new people into the fold a bit better.

I'm actually a new player myself, however I never really had that problem, all I did was ask who on Vegeta wants to thread, whoever answered, we start to thread, PM about plot of the thread or even just wing it depending on the type of character you're using.
Example: Rose is a Bounty Hunter, her job is the hunt wanted people, Dead/Alive, to thread with someone, meeting them to make it a little more interesting, it could easily be arrange to be, "She was hunting someone, meet you, talk with you, join her hunt or do something else", that is just one of the many possibility to thread, even opening up more for whoever feel like joining the fun.
If the new players can talk in the chat box, they can get someone to thread with, as long as they say something, no matter if they're shy or not, this is a game of communication after all.
