PL: 4,200 --------------------------------------------------- Tomoyo was lost... Yeah, you heard right, the little scamp had once more wandered off the stray path seeking fun once again. It had been about a few days since Tomoyo's... screw up at the Kurai mission, so the kid had finally snapped himself out of his melancholic stupor to get out of the house and do something fun. "Really anything as long as its not training." Tomoyo uttered under his breath, just the thought of the act bringing back the memories of his botched endeavors and often torturous history with the activity... Shaking his head back and forth, as if his hair was on fire or something of the sort, the small hybrid Saiyan tried his hardest to shake away those negative thoughts and focus on his current objective. He needed to find something fun, something cool, something not related to training! Something- "Like an abandoned library." The boy uttered as he stepped foot past a busy corner of the bustling streets in Cacumber Capital. The Vegeta capital city always strangely had fine lines dividing almost to a fault where its wealthy neighborhoods started and the impoverished/underfunded areas existed; And it seemed that after half an hour of careless wandering, Tomoyo found himself in once such place. Walking up closer to the small, almost broken down looking building, the structure's size and decorum almost gave off the appearance it was being crushed between the two larger structures which sat on either side. Stepping through what he could only have assumed used to be a glass door, Tomoyo threw caution to the wind in hopes of an interesting sight before fully enterring the abandoned center for knowledge... if one could even call it that. The shelves lining the shabby building's inner walls were almost all barren and without even on hint of literature. In fact, the only books even there were just pushed off into a corner on a shelf in the very back where he was almost certain they had not been touched for thousands of years by the layer of dust which sat on top. "...this place is boring." The young child finally uttered out of the observant silence, emulating to himself aloud his frustration with the lack of interesting materials. Of course the Saiyans wouldn't have a decent library; Their motto basically is "if it ain't fighting, it don't belong!" 404-D

[Thread PL: 6778]
After a moment of ominous and awkward silence, the flicker of two beady lights would pass as a very monotone voice could be heard. "Indoor voice now, this is a library after all." It was an android clad in black and blue; Ford. They were simply leaning on side of the one lone bookshelf in the run down shack. "Or are the rules of a Saiyan library perhaps... Completely different from the statistical norm?" With a curious tilt of their head they stopped leaning on the bookshelf and stood properly to address the small Saiyan that had arrived.
Ford was here to procure a fairly rare item that he had heard rumors of. Collecting the various context clues from random conversations, he had pieced together that the best place to look was this pathetic excuse for a library... It was much more of a storage shed if anything. The android had already gone through all of the books in here and catalogued the information within them bar one, which he was still holding. "Nevertheless, if you are looking for something specific, I could direct you to it."

When Tomoyo finally noticed this new person his eyes lit up and face widened in the most awe-inspired stare. This guy wasn't a Saiyan; he was-
"Woah! Are you a robot!?" The hybrid child enthusiastically questioned Ford loudly before bounding over to get a better look at him. He'd only ever seen robots in comics and stuff, but this guy looked so advanced and cool it was like he was a super hero or something! "That's so cool!"
"I'm Tomoyo! I'm 11 years old." The ecstatic boy introduced himself before eagerly awaiting the other party's answer. Was his name cool? Like Alpha-97 or Veggatron or Destructoid!? This was just too cool for him to handle, just suddenly meeting a cool metal person in such a dull library. Maybe this place wasn't so boring after all? "What's your name?"

"Hm. For now I am going to assume your actions are an answer to my question. I personally would prefer it if you were to use your indoor voice... That is, if you even have one." Ford shrugged, he was also dealing with a child for once. One that didn't immediately demand a fight no less, so there was a potential gain from continued conversation.
Saiyan biology was actually quite interesting; unlike most space-faring races these proud warriors hold their prime and peak physical potential for a very long time before rapidly deteriorating after a certain age. They experience growth spurts in various phases, but only the first one shows much of a change and the rest are points in their lives where their muscles refine after long histories of battle.
To be able to observe a young one in a non-combat situation was a rarity-- one that Ford wouldn't think to pass up. "Yes, I suppose 'robot' fits my description. What fits better would be my name; Ford." It stood for many things and it was up to the curious little Saiyan to inquire further.

"Woah! What does Ford stand for?" Tomoyo inquired further, inspecting the robo person further in all his glory while approaching the figure. "Fordizer? Fordestructinizer? Defordister?" Rattled off the small hybrid child as he practically exploded in excitement.
Still though, after a few seconds Tomo was able to reign in his excitement (he was still practically vibrating with enthusiasm though) before he continued to observe the robotic person in front of him. Ford did say that he was a robot, so that was even more of a cool thing to realize... but it wasn't enough to exercise his curiosity. "So, are you an actual robot or are you like a person with a speaker and controller behind the wall or something?" He questioned, trying his best to be at least a little skeptical about the credibility of the metallic person... but who was he kidding? It was painfully obvious he was sold on the explanation.
"Can you shoot lasers from your eyes or fly?" Tomo bombarded Ford with questions, not nearly as loud as he was initially but still very much conveying his friendly glee. "Ooh! Can you transform into a giant robot or merge with a bunch of others to become an even bigger robot?"

"Your guesses are amusing, but no, it is none of those." It was something; perhaps the only thing Ford considered 'precious' in terms of sentimental value or truly 'funny' in any sense of the word... It was the fact that his preferred designation as 'Ford Warden' was short for part of his creator's name as well as a reference to his series code; 404-D-- It was a clever play on words in two ways. "It is just a name. It stands for me. Just as your own name does; it stands for you."
Ford found himself quite energized by the youngster's rather innocent curiosity; he had a hunger for knowledge that the android could very easily relate to, even if Tomoyo's brand of information gathering lacked a certain level of... Tact or finesse. It was a forgivable fact in a way, for the Saiyan was barely into his second decade of life. "Better question; what do you think is the answer? Am I controlled from afar, or am I fully autonomous?"
Even though Tomoyo wasn't one to jump the gun and immediately ask for a fight, it seemed as though he had at least some interest in combat. The mystery was still present however; is a Saiyan's desire for combat genetically part of their being or a very tightly woven social construct? Ah, more questions to mull over later. "I have yet to encounter the absolute need for such things; but I will consider their relevance when I must."

Partially disappointed that the Robo-man's name wasn't an extension of anything, Tomoyo's face fell for a few seconds... until it was brought back by the fact that he was literally talking to a ROBOT! You can't be sad when your doing something so super cool!?
"Well, My name is Tomo! It's short for Tomoyo!" Tomoyo responded simply, his exitement functioning full force as he listened on to more of Ford's responses. At the response to his question on Ford's autonomy, Tomoyo had to take a second to think... holding up his hand to his chin, the hybrid Saiyan paused his bouncing to really think about the question for a full 3 seconds before offering up the Android a friendly smile. "I think you're cool. You're not being controlled by people, cus I can tell your a nice guy and wouldn't lie about that~" Holding up his hand as high as the Saiyan child could reach above his head, Tomoyo faced his palms out towards Ford while spreading out his fingers in asking for a "high five."
"So, why are you in a boring old library?" the thought finally popped up into Tomo's head when he started to ponder on the side how their meeting had come to occur. He was just here because he was bored... did robots get bored? Did robots even have stuff to do that would make them not bored? "Shouldn't you be in a lab or a secret base or something? Oh! Is this place the entrance to your secret hideout?! Are you a Super Hero!? Can i see?!"
Hoping up and down as if needing to pee, the 11 year old waved his hands in the air and in sight of the older android as if attracting the attention of the teacher in an elementary school classroom. "PLEEEEEAAAASE?"

"I appreciate the sentiment." Tomoyo's compliments were something Ford has not quite often experienced. In his disguise as Creis; he would typically get given compliments on his level of combat prowess, and as the real Creis would have; compliments on how violently he would destroy people's lower body should the situation reach such a level of savagery.
To this day, he still didn't understand that deceased Saiyan's penchant for maiming people's legs.
Ford was luckily aware of the 'high five' gesture, having been initially programmed with several basic social quirks and norms that had existed in this end of the galaxy in order to enhance his ability to blend in when taking up a disguise of some sort.
Now, Saiyan's usually made this gesture quite forceful and destructive, even the children did... Tomoyo however, had a different air about him, so when returning the high five Ford would refrain from exerting any more strength than necessary.
"I am simply searching for information on a-" Once again interrupted by a childish barrage of questions, Ford simply let Tomoyo imagine what he wanted to... He wasn't entirely wrong however. "As I was in the middle of saying... I am simply searching for information on a lost laboratory. My search has lead me to believe that there is in fact some kind of entrance to it within this district of Cacumber Capital. I have checked the shelf, and there is no evidence of a typical 'book switch' that activates a hidden elevator." Ford could get away with telling the young lad about the location he was trying to reach... Not what he was intending to find there, that was too important to reveal.

Glad that he had guessed right (for the most part) Tomoyo grinned while waving his fisted hands in the air triumphantly. "Yeah! I got it right!" The child exclaimed while hopping up and down ever so slightly in his excitement. This victory dance of sorts continued for a few more moments until Tomo got just a bit tired from it and slowed down to a simple grin and tired sigh. "How do we get in? Is there a secret book door?!"
I have checked the shelf, and there is no evidence of a typical 'book switch' that activates a hidden elevator.
His lip sticking out in a slight pout that his idea had apparently already been checked and proven to be false, Tomo held up his thumb and index finger to his chin in deep thought while trying to consider other options. "Hm... It's not a book..." The child echoed, pondering out loud what other kind of option it could possibly be. After a few more seconds including him pacing back and forth in front of the stalwart robot, the hybrid Human's tail suddenly twitched to a stiff shape under his pants, almost like Tomo had gotten struck by lightning. Pirouetting on the spot, spinning to face Ford again, Tomo stuck up his finger before pointing to the ground. "What if there's a secret door in the floor! Maybe it's a super secret underground base?"
Moving like a tiny black blur, Tomo was dashing here and there around the empty isles of the library all the while tapping his foot on the ground in search of some sort of hollow sound. "Maybe its over here.... or over here! ....oooooor HERE!"

"I was bound to figure it out eventually. Though should you be so inclined to offer assistance; I shall welcome it." Ford simply watched as the small Saiyan child zipped and zooped around the room. Tapping the floor, it seemed, Ford assumed the child was either listening for a hollow sound; thus dictating a trap-door or an uneven sound; which could mean that there is a switch under a floorboard. It was a largely standard, yet logical thing to check when examining a place for secrets. So, while Tomoyo delegated himself to searching the floor, Ford slowly moved around the wall, giving it a series of taps with interesting intervals. The floor was wooden so it would be easier to detect oddities, but the walls were made of a silvery brick-like substance which would require a different rhythm to investigate with. While Tomoyo was fairly noisy in the way he checked, Ford was able to tune out any form of distraction as his sensors zeroed in on how the walls resonated with the click of his fists. Click.Click.
Click.
The gentle taps continued, and the same noise would be heard, until... Thwunk.
An uneven sound. Ford had reached a corner behind a decrepit, crushed sofa that had produced a different sound. The wall here had far more chips in it here than anywhere else. Now he had to find where these chips and cracks met... "Here." The Android gently pushed a hexagonal tile into the wall, and a short rumbling occurred, but then there was silence. That is, until Tomoyo would likely stumble upon an oddly hollow sound in the floor! "Interesting..."

THUNK
"....huh?" Tomo paused, his foot half raised and ready to move on to the next position on the uneven wooden flooring before the unusual sound stopped him dead in his tracks. Perplexed, thinking maybe he had imagined the sound difference, the child experimentally brought his boot back down onto the grainy and stiff boards once more.
THUNK THUNK
THUNK
THUNK
Eyebrows furrowed in thought, Tomo was just about to call out for the older Android when a rumbling noise startled him. Clenching his arm reflexively around one of the book shelves, half expecting an earthquake to suddenly pass through the shop, Tomoyo widened his eyes in surprise as it seemed the rumbling was emitting right under him! Twisting his head on a swivel nearly 180 degrees in his haste to inform Ford, the hybrid child face brightened as he tried emoting his exclamation to his new robot friend. "Hey! The floor over here sounds weird. Also I think the ground just burped."
Snickering to himself at the thought of the ground burping... or passing another example of unfortunate gas, the child clasped his hands together behind his back before waiting for Ford to approach the strange and irregular area he had almost quite literally stumbled upon. "Come on! I think I found it!"

Hearing Tomoyo rapidly knock on the floor was the only signal Ford really needed; for he too could hear that it was a telltale sound. The Android swiftly made his way towards the young man's discovery, mere seconds before the boy had actually called for him. "The ground below us isn't- nor douse it house- a being large enough to warrant such a scenario. I would have picked up on it." Ford tapped the floor where Tomoyo was checking simply to confirm his suspicion before mapping out where some hinges could possibly be... Up until he noticed the floorboards slid over slightly. "Sliding trapdoor. Certainly clever enough to avoid a run of the mill Saiyan."
With one fluid movement, Ford shoved the floorboards down, before sliding them across, revealing an entrance way. Within, there was a short flight of stairs, and flickering orange LED lights. "Sensors indicate that there is life down there; but it is likely dormant. Should you choose to follow me; I would like to express the need for caution. It would be a shame for someone of your youth to perish before you learned more of the universe." Not even giving the boy a second glance, Ford descended down the stairs and into the gloom below.
Should Tomoyo choose to follow, he would find Ford examining the walls. There was an obviously mortal-manufactured archway somewhere down the tunnel; and only recently, something had been moved-- it would be fairly easy to tell that a portion of the wall had slid across to reveal this exit, as rocks and dust were still settling.
