~PROLOGUE TO TOMOYO~
Prologue Part 1: The Disappoint
Tomoyo was ecstatic to say the least. Today was the big day, the day he had been waiting for in dreadful anticipation of for the last month or so.
Today was the day of the full moon.
…well, one day of the full moon on a poor planet in the southern quadrant. Now, the young hybrid Saiyan boy did live alone with his mother on the warrior race’s planet, the two of them spending “much needed” mother-son bonding time as the young boy often shadowed his parent upon her missions as part of her very aggressive training regimen. Due to being a Saiyan only in half blood; Colla, Tomoyo’s mother, was extremely justified in her own mind for ferociously pushing her only child to strengthen himself. Often times the Saiyan mother strived for the battle field and when she couldn’t get to one, focused her efforts on instead “training” her half-breed son; because let’s face it, those human genes weren’t helping the young boy out in the strength department.
“You can’t even fly!” She often reprimanded him before proceeding to spend the next few hours throwing Tomoyo off of every high structure she could find in hopes of instigating the skill. Still though, no matter the stimulus, all that ever had been accomplished by the mom besides barely strengthening her son was ruining relations between the two. Every day when coming home from “socializing” with the pure-blooded Saiyan boys his age, Tomoyo was often bathed in bruises and bloodied cuts; but it wasn’t the teeth and nails that cut deep the most though, that right was reserved to the hybrid’s mother. Each day this happened he was always met with the same sneer, the same face, the same look of disappointment, and eventually the same look of disgust. No matter wherever Tomoyo went on the accursed planet, he was always met with the same look and the same view: “He was a disgrace to Saiyans! How dare he even call himself one?!”
But that was all going to change today. Throwing his pack onto his bed with a resounding thud after lugging himself up the stairs into his room, Tomoyo threw himself onto his bed before pulling out a small calendar from under his pillow. Picking up a red pen from hid desk, Tomoyo let out a sigh of relief, wincing slightly while trying to find a more comfortable position of holding the pen on his bruised knuckle. “Tomorrow, it’ll happen. Everything will be better!” The optimistic youth hummed to himself before marking out the current day box on the chart, and the last one before a circled date.
What’s so special about today, you may ask? Well, today was the day that Tomoyo would finally be able to prove to everyone that he was just as capable as any other Saiyan. He didn’t even like fighting all that much, it felt more like a chore than anything, but Tomoyo HATED above all else the fact that everybody was practically shunning him for not excelling in it. And so, today was the day that all of that would change. It seemed like any other day of its kind: Tomoyo and his mother would wake up early in the morning to eat a large balanced meal of various meats, the two of them would dress up in their extremely uncomfortable, at least according to Tomoyo, Saiyan armor suits, and finally would pack their remaining supplies before heading off to the ship/pod docking bay.
…this wasn’t any ordinary mission though; this was a SPECIAL mission. Maybe not so much to the other Saiyans, this mission was special to Tomoyo in that it took place on the unfortunate planet of Kurai, an otherwise average and lush planet; a planet having a night of TWO full moons.
That’s right, you can probably see the grand scheme Tomoyo’s plan consisted of. “If mom and the other Saiyans see me transform into a Great Ape and beat up a bunch of people, nobody will think I’m a screw-up again!” The Saiyan child gleefully cheered mentally as he helped carry his mother’s case full of spare armor and weaponry.
Oh how he ended up wishing he never went on that trip though.
Prologue Part 2: The Plan
Going on this missions always had pros and cons which usually weighed each other out. Pro: Tomoyo was granted experiences that made him get leagues stronger than he would have been on his own. Con: Every single one almost led to his untimely demise either due to his mother’s carelessness or honest to god irresponsibility. “I mean seriously, why would she think it’d be a good idea to just make me fight one of her opponents?” Tomoyo murmured under his breath, folding his arms across his chest as his mother sat in an adjacent seat on the space ship.
The current vessel they were riding across the galaxy on was called something like the “Reaping Rose”, a sleek and silver newer model ship that many forces traveling in large numbers tended to use while traveling off planet. The ship itself wasn’t packed very tightly, having enough room in it for even Tomoyo to get his own room, but the other members of the voyage weren’t as excited on bringing a kid along… or well, bringing Tomoyo along. Apparently his mom had “persuaded” them (rather violently) that this was simply a learning experience for the young Saiyan boy and to let him join… so at least there was ONE perk to having a mom that could beat up the majority of adults near you.
Said other Saiyans consisted of a rather chunky man in green, shoulder pad-less armor named Buroccol, a lanky and quite snarky man adorned in grey standard issue armor with a scar across his eye named Spinah, and a man of broad and muscular build in brown Strapped-Saiyan armor, named Vegiete. Now, none of these people liked Tomoyo, but the liked Tomoyo’s mom even less: To the three of them, having to go on a mission being led by a woman, no less one of such disrespectful manners towards them was not something to be happy about; and at the point where she was even bringing her own spawn on said mission, you had a recipe for unhappiness.
The voyage itself took approximately two days, the Kurai home world happened to not be that far off from planet Vegeta apparently, so that only proved to make the anticipation bubbling in Tomoyo practically burst. By few minutes to landing, the child could barely contain his excitement and was running around from window to window on the ship looking at different parts of the planet coming into view. “WOAH! Mom! There’s the planet! Hey, mom! There it is, we’re here!” Tomoyo exclaimed with his eyes shining in delight at finally leaving the cooped up ship and get into the action.
Behind the two familial Saiyans, three more let out sighs of relief almost simultaneously while giving each other similarly sympathetic looks. They had suffered long enough for the past 48 hours hearing the incessant ramblings of a child… the good news though, was that genocidal takeovers were great stress relief!
Prologue Part 3: Wanna Go Ape?
Several pairs of boots clattered down in unison, shining in the dull light of the setting sun as their owners landed in the very center of a crowded and busy city. Night was soon falling and most of the Kurains were either cleaning up shop and going home for the night or making their evening commutes to wherever it was they went. The group stood out still from the crowd though, while these strange humanoids wore matching armor and similar facial structure, they stood out like a sore thumb from the native species who wore baggy purple clothing and had heads nearly the size and color of pumpkins.
Smirking to himself, the rounded Saiyan Buroccol turned to the other two while checking the information that had been laid before them on their scouters. Meanwhile, still shifting and tugging at his armor rather awkwardly, Tomoyo’s breath was bated as his eyes were glued to the skies. “I won’t mess this. I won’t.” He kept repeating to himself over and over underneath his breath, the dark toned Saiyan’s mouth curved almost into a frown and frightened smirk at the same time from the conflicting emotions running through the boy’s head.
Tomoyo was jolted from his thought process rather suddenly though as a beep sounded simultaneously from all four of the Saiyan’s scouters. Taking off and pocketing her scouter, Colla turned to her son with an expectant and vigilant eye before steadying the boy with her hand. “Don’t worry, and follow my lead. If you lose control just aim yourself at the ants~” the “loving” mother cautioned her boy before turning her head towards the sky like the rest.
The moon was out now.
“Let’s RAISE SOME HELL!” Vegiete roared as his voice mid-sentence deepened to a feral growl while his body grew to a proportionate size. Throwing his head backwards to let out a ferocious battle cry, the violent great ape sprinted forward, smashing his fists and arms into any building or structure nearby and firing beams of energy from his maw. The slaughter was beginning, and soon the other Saiyans followed suit as one by one the sight of the moon transformed each of them into humongous, ape versions of themselves.
“Alright, I can do this. I can do this.” Squeezing his eyes shut one last time for good measure, Tomoyo flung his neck backwards to stare right at the moon like the others before him. Upon sight of the heavenly body, a jolt seemed to run through the Half-Saiyan boy from his eyes down to his tail, straightening it out and making the hairs stand on end. Tomoyo could feel them, the Blutz waves emitted by the moon flowing from his retinas into his very Saiyan being as his chest began pulsating. The boy’s breath quickened, his frame heaving up and down like the others, he could feel the difference, and he could feel the power!
“RAAAAAAWR!” Tomoyo roared out into the night!
…possibly the most squeaky and high-pitched sound an 11 year old could make as the boy bared his teeth… only to notice what had went wrong:
Everything.
“…” Tomoyo was stunned! This couldn’t be happening. Maybe he did something wrong? Maybe Tomoyo looked at the moon wrong? Thrusting his neck back with almost enough force to crack it, the boy widened his eyes as much as possible while staring into the moon, raising his Ki as high as possible hoping by some miracle this nightmare would end or it would work!
But it didn’t. Several miles of land decimated by now outwards from the center square, Colla turned her giant scarlet tinted eyes downward towards her spawn as a snarl rose up from her throat. No. He wouldn’t dare embarrass her like this. “What are you doing!? Transform already you idiot!” She hissed at Tomoyo, to which the boy could only hold up his arms waving them at his mother-ape like a madman, tears forming in his eyes from the stress of the situation. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go! He was supposed to transform, He was supposed to win and show everyone how he WASN’T a screw up weakling!
But what Tomoyo didn’t understand was the fact that he wasn’t like the other Saiyans: He was half, and the other half made all the difference. Maybe it was the strength of his father’s human genes in him, but Tomoyo seemingly had just enough human DNA in him to outweigh that of his Saiyan side and completely prevent him from achieving the Great Ape transformation like even any of the other children.
Tomoyo wasn’t just a screw up now; he was a screw up for life.
Prologue Part 4: Resolution for Fun
The way back home was one fraught with awkward silence. True the mission objective had been completed, all sentient and intelligent life on the planet Kurai had been totally and completely wiped out from the Saiyan force’s incredible might and fearsome form… but in a way it had failed to the only person who had cared. Buroccol just sat faking sleep in his seat to avoid even socializing with the child while Spinah and Vegiete conversed on the situation to each other in the corner. Just barely overhearing, Tomoyo in his stupor made out some of the words that passed between the two adult males as the ship remained flying in silence.
“So Colla’s brat can’t transform… can’t say I expected that.” The lanky and strange looking Spinah commented while glancing over his shoulder at the woman Saiyan. A look of regret possibly written across his face.
“I know right?” Vegiete agreed, also following suit with staring. “I know we give her a rough time with having such a weak spawn but…”
“Yeah, I don’t even think he qualifies as a Saiyan anymore?” Spinah spoke, finishing the other’s sentence.
“Hmph. This is just why you never make spawn with off-worlders; screws up their genes.”
At this point, Tomoyo tuned out the conversation. So that was it huh? He was destined to fail even before he started… just because he was HUMAN!? How was that even fair!?
The answer was, it wasn’t fair. Life wasn’t fair, and he was finally understanding that. Glancing up at his mother’s reflection in the ship’s window, the two’s eyes briefly made contact before the woman broke it as a look of disgust overcame her expression. This moment was embarrassing for the both of them… but Tomoyo didn’t want to think about it any longer. He was done with training, done with trying to look strong just so other people would stop calling him weak!
When Tomoyo got back to Vegeta, he was going to go play; do something actually fun for once since he got to that planet full of jerks.
