Koshu set the ravaged body down on the ground with utmost care, his hands shaking as he took a deep breath. Paisu wasn't dead yet, but he was almost there. The man looked down at his comrade with unprecedented fire, and placed his hand gently on his bloodied shoulder.
"I'm going to help you." Koshu swore quietly and with a deceptively calm determination. "I'm going to help you."
The man slipped one arm behind Paisu's head and the other under his knees, and lifted him up in one swift motion. The blast victim gasped in unbearable pain. Koshu wanted to make this as quick and painless as possible.
He leapt out of the cavernous crater that the blast had formed, landing outside and looking with disgust at the people who had watched this happen. After preaching so long about respecting their own kin and moving and fighting as one and living together and dying together they had simply allowed chanted and cheered as their comrade was brought to the brink of excruciating death.
"You all.." Koshu began, causing the crowd to stop talking and pay attention for a moment. His first words made all the difference. Koshu was no longer speaking to the tribe of saiyans as one of them. He was speaking to them as an outsider, berating them for their sins. "You all need to go back to the mountain, now." His voice was firm, and although Koshu was no elder, the sheer gravity of his determination and language was enough to move them. Simply by making independent decisions as an individual, he was tapping in to a power that none of the other saiyans possessed.
Koshu briskly walked over to the elder who had explained the situation to Koshu only minutes earlier. The bearded man was taller than Koshu, and looked down at him, both intrigued and astounded by his independence from the group.
"Take him." Koshu commanded his superior, without any hint of suggestion. "Take him back and keep him alive." Koshu gently thrust Paisu's body into the elder's arms, who had no choice but to cradle the nearly broken saiyan. Koshu turned away for a moment and gritted his teeth "…And think about what you've let happen."
The crowd didn't quite move yet, but Koshu knew that they would soon. He had no choice but to make the executive decisions now. Nobody else would have the determination to do what needed to be done fast enough. The system was broken, he realized now, and he had to take it into his own hands.
Huji looked at him with disbelief as Koshu crossed in front of the entire crowd, the glistening crescent badge unsullied by the morning's betrayal.
And so for the second time that day, he set out to the market, but the conditions couldn't be any more different. In the morning, Koshu was apathetic, mentally worn out, and reluctant. Now though, he was impassioned, prepared, and on a mission. He had to save someone he was loyal to. Even if that someone had screwed him over in the past.
The saiyan clenched his fists with determination and crouched slightly, a blossom of yellow ki bursting out around him with a sharp whirr, before he instantly rocketed off towards the market for the second time that day. He would not let Paisu die.
