The staff has created the following process for appealing the character-specific Unlocking of Open DEs, when thread participants don't appear to be unanimously consenting your joining: 1) The appealing player will send a PM to at least 3 members of the staff. The player will state the RP reason why their player would be there and the RP stakes which are involved. 2) The staff will reach out to any objecting parties, and gather their arguments. 3) The staff will discuss and weigh the merits of both arguments and come to a speedy decision. Factors that will be considered include: - The length of time the DE has been locked. The longer the DE has been locked, the less likely anyone will be let in.
- The reason for the appealing player's delay in joining. For instance, if they were buffing up their PL in several threads, this will not be considered a valid delay. Getting stuck in another DE or absence from the site will be considered valid reasons.
- Whether or not the appealer's character will be negatively effected by not having a stake in the outcome. The greater the impact, the more likely they will be able to join.
The 72 hour rule was made for two reasons: to firm up liquid time some and prevent cases where very strange and wonky things could happen in big, months-long DEs. Also, to prevent someone from training up really hard while their opponents were stuck in a slow-posting DE.
The appeal language was put in with the rule so that people couldn't like, wait for someone to go on vacation OOCly then leap into a DE knowing they wouldn't get back until the following weekend, and things of that nature. The 72 hour curtain was never meant to be impassable. This formalizes the appeal language in the 72 hour rule.
