The landscape of planet Vegeta was not a pleasant one, with dusty plains and rocky crags as far as the eye could see. Whatever life could thrive on the blood-coloured sphere had to be the toughest of the tough, the scarcity of resources allowing no room for quarter in natural selection. The Saiyans were the greatest creatures produced by the violent evolution on planet Vegeta and in the capital city, a lone saiyan stared out onto the horizon.
Cabba the nobleman stood with his arms crossed behind his back, mind busy running through different thoughts. He was to be sent on a diplomatic to Gaia-524, known to the locals as Yog. It was only a diplomatic mission in that they were planning to enter negotiations after wiping out the planetary defense and giving the arrogant Yogs a reason to listen to Saiyan demands. On the surface it looked to be a routine mission which would only be recalled as a mark on Cabba's record.
He knew better though, this was intended to be his final mission. Cabba had been a nuisance to the council's interests for long enough that apparently some of them had decided it was time to get rid of him. It was within his rights to refuse, but his pride prevented him from doing so. Maybe it was foolish but he had been a proud warrior, and even after moving into politics that trait stuck with him. If the council intended for him to die on some mission they could wipe their hands of afterwards, then he would prove them wrong. He would return triumphant and shove his passive defiance in those vultures' faces.
"Father? You called for me?"
But there was something he had to do first, on the off chance that he did fall to the trap that had been set for him, he had to have one last talk with his son. Cabba didn't turn to face his son, but moved his head to the side to acknowledge his presence.
"Yes Lettis, I did. I'm going to leave the planet tomorrow, on a mission to Yog. The council needs an ambassador for 'negotiations'." Cabba scoffed, "They're sending me to die. I plan to prove that I still have some fight left in me, but in just in case there are some things I want you to know." He sighed and gestured for Lettis to join him, the boy looking startled before shuffling over to his father. Cabba placed his hand on Lettis' shoulder, looking at him with an expression of pride and...sadness?
"You know a lot of my history, but I've never told you my intentions for most of it. I was a warrior, and my ambitions against the Council begun when my team was sent on a suicide mission. I was the only survivor and I swore to get revenge for my comrades' death. You know that I met your mother shortly after that, and we fell in love. Well that was, a bit of a lie on my part. For your sakes. I never really loved your mother, I knew that her family was a high-ranking one and could influence the political tide on Vegeta. There was no way I, even as an elite, could have climbed the power ladder. But your mother could, and with my backing eventually we could have taken down those scoundrels, hiding behind their self-serving laws!" Cabba paused after raising his voice, taking time to calm himself before continuing.
"I know it must be hard to hear, but its the truth. While I could never have become King because of my background, I knew that someone in my family could. You, my son, could be King. Your mother might have died when you were born, but my hopes didn't. Instead they were renewed when I first held you in my arms. There, was the instrument of reckoning I had been waiting for. My own son!" Cabba turned so that he was facing Lettis, noted the indeterminate look on his son's face, and grasped both of his shoulders.
"Born to a noble house, and with the heart of a true Saiyan warrior, you are exactly what the people need as a leader. Thanks to the bureaucrats you may not rule indisputably, but in time, with my lessons, you will. No matter what happens, never forget who you are."
It seemed as though Cabba was overflowing with pride for his son, and as he withdrew his arms from the boy's shoulders, he got a look of hesitation before speaking again.
"You're my son, and I-I....I know you're destined to be king. Always remember that."

"King Lettis, where are you going?!"
Ah yes, that was Colli, his PA. Well, Lettis was pretty sure that was her job. At times she seemed to be his advisor as well as secretary, and of course he'd been damned if he wasn't getting some eye-candy out of the arrangement as well. It had been hard to get her to agree to the dress code he'd set up, but being King sure did have its advantages. These weren't ancient times and he sure as hell couldn't have a harem, but a few saiyan ladies strutting around in revealing armour was within his power.
"There's a meeting of some sort on Earth, as King I'm pretty sure its my duty to go there. Besides, I hear there's gonna be a tournament. Like hell am I gonna miss that!" Lettis gave a mischievous grin as he strode through the metallic corridor leading to the pod bay.
Colli growled and put on a burst of speed to keep up with her boss, half-jogging and clutching her data-pad close to her chest. She managed to get ahead of him and began walking backwards from him, which Lettis found amusing.
"But your coronation's in a few hours, you can't miss that!"
"Can, am, will do so. If I have to take a bum's method of space travel to do it, fine. It'll take more than a bit of discomfort to stop the King of Saiyans!"
"The Council is going to be furious Lettis! Weeks of planning have gone into this, its going to be broadcast throughout the galaxy, you can't not show up!"
Lettis scowled, his playful demeanour momentarily giving way to a dark interior. 'Let those old fools get worked up. It would do those geysers good to get their blood boiling once in a while.'
"I'm sure the Council can handle having their feathers' ruffled a bit. Anyway, I sent them all a little gift to makeup for it." said Lettis, smirked and pushing past Colli.
An expression of dawning horror came to Colli's face, and she froze for a few seconds as realisation struck. "You-You didn't send them strippers did you! Again!"
Lettis' smirk only widened, and now that the doors to the hangar were fast approaching he decided it was time for this conversation to end.
"Of course I did! They need to know that I appreciate their support, and that I'm sorry for the trouble I caused them. Not to mention, they really should have seen it coming."
With that he twisted around on his heel, pulled Colli close, kissed her and threw her back before slipping through the doors and shooting a wink at her.
'Yes, let the idiots underestimate me, think I'm just some playboy goof who's no real threat. Then when they least expect it, I'll strike and show them the error in taking my family lightly! I became the King of Vegeta, Father, I won't let you down now!'
The trip to Earth hadn't been just any random decision either. Even with the meeting taking place, there were powerful warriors on that planet, warriors that could enable Lettis to achieve new peaks of strength undreamt of by the pitiful ruling council. Earth was close enough to not be judged as suspicious with him going there, but far away enough that the council's claws weren't dug in. There he could get some real progress done!
