It was a bright and sunny day. Light bathed the streets and the dull roar of people's happy voices filled the air of the surprisingly busy farmers market nestled within the small eastern town. People from all over the world had stalls set up to sell their exotic wares making the small market a cornucopia of food and culture. There was a stand selling rare flowers and dry fruits found only within the heart of Diablo Desert, Another run by one of native clans of Fukurou Forest selling all manner of herbs and natural potions that could do anything from soothe the pain from a wound to ward of any evil spirit, A large stand had a display of fish, big and small, caught within the frigid seas of the Yunzabit Highlands and of course a stand selling fresh produce and small livestock from the nearby Spinach Wastes among countless other stands stretching as far as the eye could see.
Among the stands was one representing: "The Happy Shrimp Family Ranch." Crisp Vegetables were delicately placed on display with cutesy drawings showing off the various prices. There were plenty of salt tolerant vegetables such as: Beets, Spinach, Kale, and Asparagus. There was also a few less hardy vegetables like: Potatoes, Peas, Tomatoes, and even some Broccoli! There were even a few fruit and coconuts thrown in there to mix things up a bit but the long line of seaside veggies was the clearly the main draw.
The one running this happy little stand was none other than the Kami to be: Maeve Rakshasa. The young demoness was wearing a large floppy sunhat to keep the bright light out of her eyes and a simple white maternity dress that provided a comfortable amount of room for the swell in her noticeably pregnant belly. Her hat had a sunflower on it, held into place by a long white ribbon tied around the brim; And her dress had a cute floral patterning to match it. All in all, despite her pregnancy she looked ready and comfortable to work.
Back on the lookout Akemi was still busily searching through the libraries to find out what was needed to complete Maeve's ascension to the Kami role so the dragoness found herself with some free time. She had volunteered to use it to help her foster family by running one of the stands they had set up in the numerous markets around the world. She had honestly jumped at the chance not only to help out but to also see what state the town was in since the last time she visited. It had been about a year ago but last time she visited it was under attack by some lowlife demon who only wished to cause chaos and devastation. It was good she had come when she did because she ended up helping driving the madman off while also protecting one of the others trapped by his spell.
...
Maeve looked out to the crowd as she wondered about the other girl known as Sala. The majin girl remained on her mind for quite some time after their little adventure but she ended up losing touch with her. It was something she still regretted to this day. In fact, part of Maeve oddly hoped that she would run into the girl once more as unlikely as it was. Even though it had been a year she could certainly use a friend, especially now...

"Hello there, ma'am! Do you have any candy?" chirped a voice from behind. She hadn't quite recognized the demoness she was addressing - nor that she was a demoness at all - but Sala saw delicious-looking food. Vegetables (and tomatoes) spread out across the table, which was gross, but fruits and coconuts were right up the Majin girl's alley. She jiggled a bit in anticipation, then she noticed at last to whom she was speaking.
Sala's pink lips parted and she let out a shrill, ear-piercing screech. "OH MY GOD, IT'S YOU!" she exclaimed, trying really quite hard to put a name to the familiar face she was now trying to engulf between her pink breasts in a massive hug. "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!" Her hold was tight, really tight, suffocatingly tight. She seemed to realize this and let go of the much, much stronger woman, hands clasping together as she smiled cheerfully at her.
Her feet left the ground as she reclined upon the air, staring upside-down at Maeve's face. "Don't tell me, I will remember! Ah… ah… ah…! Maiev? No, no… Maeve!" She laughed merrily as she recalled the demon's name with only a moment's lapse, "Maeve! Maeve! Maeve!" She reached out to grab her hands and danced in the air with her, "Maeve! It's me, it's Sala! Do you remember me? Do you? We were in that spooky place together! You beat that crazy jerk! You didn't forget, right? Please say you remember!"
And like that, the Majin's short attention span snapped to something else, something different about Maeve. Was it her power level? Well, she was certainly INCREDIBLY powerful now, but that wasn't it. Was it her healthy, glowing complexion? Well, she did seem a bit more radiant than Sala remembered, but that might just be due being happy to see her. Was it her manner of dress? Close… she remembered armor and a sword, not a sunhat and maternity… dress…
"OH. MY. GOD. MAEVE! YOU'RE PREGNANT! D-did you know that? No, wait, of course you knew that! You're you! So much has happened in just a year! You're pregnant! Ah… you never invited me to meet the lucky person - wait, you do reproduce sexually, right? I don't, not really, so… Erm… Anyway, Was there a wedding? Was there a wedding? Tell me EVERYTHING!!"

Maeve's headfins flagged up and down as the girl she was longing to met again literally appeared in an instant. With her appearance followed a storm of hyperactive questions ranging from incredibly silly to somewhat personal to honest and sweet. The Kami-to-be offered the girl a gentle smile as she brushed a ruby bang away from the gold of her eyes. "It is good to see you Sala." Maeve said simply before taking Sala's hand into her own just as they had done when they were in 'that spooky place' as the majin described it. "It has been far too long and so much has happened in that time...I do apologize for my absence, I didn't mean to drift apart like we did." Her smile faltered a bit as she broke her gaze from the other's eyes. Her pointed ears lowered a bit from her shame as she avoided her gaze further. "I-I did think of you though...Quite often, you were among the first people to accept me in this realm and despite everything you left quite the impression." She concluded, voice brightening again as she gave her hand a little squeeze. She pulled away though before using her scaled tail to point to an empty chair beside her urging the majin to sit.
Maeve leaned back and let out a sigh as she reflected on the year she had, everything seemed to have flown by so fast that it felt almost impossible to figure out where to begin. She gnawed on her lower lip a bit as she mulled it over before she decided. "There was no wedding, merely an engagement. The person is...Unfortunately deceased after a battle, and now I'm taking on the role of Guardian of the Earth. I know that's a lot to digest but I can tell you everything from the beginning if you'd rather." She offered, using her tail to flip the sign in front of her stand to have it say "Closed" with a cutesy sad face drawn on it.
"Though if I go into it, you must promise to return the favor." The dragoness smiled warmly, her headfins perking with excitement at the prospect hearing from her old friend.

Sala grinned at Maeve, nodding her pink head up and down as she floated comfortably into the seat. As she listened, however, she frowned for her friend’s loss. Inside, she still didn't feel quite as deeply as she did before the incident that changed her… but perhaps a more subdued reaction to bad news would be preferable to the torrent of tears and hugging that would follow something so sad happening to a friend.
But when she mentioned becoming the God of Earth, Sala had to tilt her head. She had a bit of knowledge of such things from her trip into the Demon Realm. A hierarchy of deities of various types governed the universe, the highest of which, the Core People, could either become Kings or God-Kings of their realm, or, if evil, the Demon Realm. She wasn't sure if Dante was one of these or not, but she did know the evil ones to be weaker than their benevolent counterparts.
"Go ahead," offered Sala, her hand reaching out to pat Maeve's shoulder, "but I can't promise it's been too interesting for me."

Maeve smiled softly at the affectionate little pat on her shoulder and gave the majin a smile. "Interesting is one word for how my life has been. Dangerous, stressful, but...Worthwhile are a few others I'd use as well." The demoness mused as she looked off to the side. Her golden, slit eyes glistened as she relived her last few months as her mind tried to articulate her experiences into words. It had been a whirlwind of a year and she had no idea if she'd be able to do it justice with her story but... She was certainly going to try!
"I guess, we should start with what happened after we chased that warlock out of this town. For a while, things were simple, for someone like me at least." She gestured to some of her more demonic features as she referenced 'someone like her' to emphasize the point. "I made some friends, discovered more about this realm, entered a tournament, saved a town, general 'hero' things I suppose." She looked down blushing lightly at how much she fit the bill to some of those old stories Akemi regaled her with from time to time. Her gaze returned to Sala as she thought of what had happened next. The twinge of pain and anger in her eyes set the tone before she even said anything.
"...It was then, that an invader from another world came. She and her cronies sought to take this planet for one reason or another and they decided to start with...Well..." She reached an arm out to point to the large sign saying 'The Happy Shrimp Family Ranch.' "...My home. So I fought each of them but in the fight my friend and I were seriously wounded, we ended up being hospitalized for a few weeks." She bit her lip, looking aside. "I ended up waking up a week or so later and found that the saiyans declared war on Earth."
"You heard of the saiyan invasion I take it? Bing, my soon to be fiance, Kaula, a friend of mine, and I were on the front lines. I ended up fighting and sort of befriending the commander of the saiyan army there. It was the invasion that sort of opened me up to a whole new world of fighters, heroes, and villains. My connection to Bing actually lead to me meeting the president! After he died things just sort of fell into place and the other heroes sort of decided I'd be the best fit for the Kami role." She giggled nervously as she wrapped up her tale.
"So, that's sort of it. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few details here and there though..."

The two friends happily shared stories back and forth for hours and hours. The dragoness felt a lightness in her heart that she hadn't felt in some time as the mischievous Majin regaled her with tales of her misadventures in the year that they were apart. At the end of the day the two parted ways with smiles on their faces warmth in their souls. Though their paths differed the two promised to bridge them and reconnect again.
...Maeve just hoped that the Shrimp Clan would be okay with her extended little 'break.'
