The Warriors of Holster [/b][/u] Anywhere Starting PL Range600 - 1,600 AppearanceKaryuōkami are a mammalian, humanoid race, reminiscent of canidae found on some worlds through the stars. Covered in varying lengths of fur, Karyuōkami come in a near limitless amount of colors with at-most three different sets to their coat. With an average height of six to seven feet regardless of gender, the race tends to be on the bulky side and walk in a digitigrade manner. Traditional eye colors for the Karyuōkami tend to be lighter colors such as grey, light blue, yellow, and green while darker colors tend to be more rare and limited to black or dark green. And, as one might expect, the race bears a tail... capable of coming in either thin/short or wide/grown-out versions. BackgroundMany believe the origins of the Karyuōkami to be from one of two backgrounds, the first being that they originated from their long-destroyed tropical homeworld of Holster which records back as at least where the were first reported to have been encountered "officially". The second philosophy, often viewed as the "idiot's logic", is that they're a race derived from some sort of magical curse, similar to the men of legend from Earth who were afflicted with the ability to become wolves. Whichever one chooses to believe should be obvious due to the most commonly accepted and well-viewed of the two being that they evolved from Holster, as scientific evidence makes it indisputable. As the tales go, Holster was a harsh world that forced the earliest of these canid people to fight for most of their existence. The first societies, dated back roughly three thousand years ago, were those who fought tooth and nail with harsh plant-life that actively hunted the species. A brutal cycle of killing and surviving, this built the Karyuōkami over many generations into warriors that understood loss and chances. However, rather than take-on the path seen in other races, they chose instead to focus on taming their homeworld's flora. It took almost two thousand years, roughly the date of Age 800, before this proved successful. Having genetically altered the flora, the scientists of Holster had established a balance that let the race thrive for the first time in their history. For the next 1,200 years, the race evolved to what many would call a sub-modern society. Being a warrior was something of recognition, but had fallen from being a staple to simply a badge of honor. Service in the Holster army had ensured the planet survived most troubles, but it wasn't before long that the species would fall under the Planet Trade Organization's (otherwise known as the Arcosian Empire) greedy eye. They'd chosen to stand against the Empire, resulting in the attack on their homeworld. While they had been a hardy race due to the evolution path and their species struggle with the plants, they had little to no powerful Ki-fighting warriors. By Age 2,000, the siege resulted in the destruction of Holster and the enslavement of the Karyuōkami survivors. Due in part to their physical capabilities, yet untapped, careful assignment and "re-education" of the species led to them becoming specialized unit within the Arcosian Empire. With fighting in their genetics, the race adapted well and grew once more into a proud fighting race despite the axe they carried for the destruction of their world. While they had been adopted into the Empire's forces late enough to miss fighting along-side the Saiyans, the group strove to live up to the gap filled in the Arcosians by the primates. Among the various races, they failed in that the few who held onto the old lifestyle of Holster inspired mercy in the few troops of the species. As more and more reports of their failures to exterminate or bully worlds into line, it was likely they'd be dealt with permanently... but after hundreds of years, a fateful event unfolded that would give the Karyuōkami their chance for freedom. Specifically, the war broke out between the Saiyan Sp;ar Empire and the Arcosian Empire. As the fighting grew intense and the Arcosians found themselves on the backfoot, they found a lack of their wolf-like warriors. In the chaos that broke out during the battles, the Karyuōkami fled in groves and abandoned their "masters". Some remained, carrying on a warrior pride to see to it they earn their place in the Arcosian ranks. Others, with high hopes, left to try and join like-minded warriors of the SSE hoping that perhaps fighting for fellow warrior-like people could earn their grace and a new, more respected place above that of slavery to the Arcosians. Both were optimistic outlooks, but a third group set out for open space and Earth. This third group sought to track down the legendary Dragon Balls, hoping to use their power to restore their homeworld's status. Name Pun: Karyuōkami often carry puns of weaponry as their actual names or inspiration for them, such as... - Sward Edwards
- Gunnar
- Erik Bowman
Unique Features/Characteristics- Ki-laced "Hunter" Fangs: While they boast claws that ultimately prove useless in a Ki-oriented fight, the Karyuōkami have fangs developed to channel their Ki in a manner unlike that seen in most species. Specifically, they're born with an inherent technique to compliment their starting techs, known as Hunting Fangs. The technique is aptly named, allowing the Karyuōkami to chase down a target using their suppressed instincts and bite down with Ki-coated fangs. Purebloods start with an additional [UV3] with Homing/Piercing, Hybrids/Bio-Androids start with an additional [V2] Homing.
[/ul]
- Forged In Fire, Ready To Fire: Karyuōkami are all born with a powerful urge to fight, much akin to that of Saiyans. Those who carry the blood of these wolves will function better while on the fringe between life and death. Once a Karyuōkami is severely wounded, they gain a +1 PL on any technique for the next two turns, signalling their ability to charge in and turn a fight from the brink of defeat in one final adrenaline-fueled attempt to win.
- A Blade Drawn, A Purse Lost: Due to their hefty abilities oriented around endurance and fighting back, the Karyuōkami as a race benefit from fighting with their lives on the line. PL gains for DE Open threads gain an additional +5% if survived, Zeni gains are reduced by 5% (if possible).
[/ul] Transformations
Name | Power Level Multiplier | Power Level Requirement | Additional Requirements/Notes | Akakōkei
| x12 | 0 | Exposed to brilliant moonlight, the user undergoes a feral transformation dating back to the roots of the species. Hunching onto all fours and growing to roughly the size of five stories tall, the Karyuōkami become a massive wolf and lose control. They will attack anything in sight with ferocity to match that of other transforming species. Requires Sanguine Mind [SU] and 12,000 PL to control. May be activated using Power Ball or a Full Moon. | Yaseikokoro | x7 | 50,000 | Grasping at their chest, the Karyuōkami will channel their Ki toward their heart. Such an act draws out their heritage's might, making their Ki gain flakes of orange or green and causing their fangs and claws to grow slightly and become more prominent. | Muryōkiba | x15 | 150,000 | The Karyuōkami have only heard of such a state from the few records saved from Holster. An explosion-like blast of Ki will convert their Ki coloration to the color of their "flakes", affecting their fur by either inspiring flora-like attributes such as moss growth or bristling their fur with cinders akin to a living flame, based upon each individual's genetics. Requires Ki Suppression. Cannot be taken if Shikiba is taken/acquired. | Shikiba | x18/x12 | 150,000 | Inspired by the harshness their kind has undergone for so long, this variation of their enhanced form causes the feral traits of the Karyuōkami to become extremely pronounced. Their legs become more animalistic and lowered, their stance becoming that of a high crouch. Muscles bulge all over their body akin to similar transformations of this kind, their claws extend to lengths similar to knives, all before their fangs grow to roughly an inch long and forcing them to be exposed. With this primal surge, the flakes of color grow more numerous and the second color is brought in. x18 Offense, x12 Defense. Requires Power Weighting. Cannot be taken if Muryōkiba is taken/acquired. | Saishokiba | x20 | 200,000 | Faced with the need to grow stronger, the Karyuōkami achieves balance between the two factors that define the history of their species. Their Ki flickers away in an act of natural control, turning their fur bright white if they're darker or pitch black if they're a lighter shade, retaining their basic features rather than taking on their enhanced ones. In the face of danger, they finally understand that harnessing both their power and memories allows them to obtain a proper transformation.
| Kibatsume | x32/x25 | 300,000 | Ascending their power further after spending time mastering their new-found strength, a Karyuōkami's Ki will take on fire-like properties near its edges and (if on a planet) cause small fires to ripple through the air in brief, harmless intervals within, similar to the lightning seen in other species transforming. As one might expect, this change further amplifies their abilities in combat. x32 Offense, x25 Defense | Karyūkami | x43 | 430,000 | A state only mentioned as some false hope, a Karyuōkami must certainly be chosen by the gods themselves to achieve this sort of power. Tapping once more into their feral heritage, the Karyuōkami unlocks what it fully means to carry their proud heritage. Their eyes turn a bright blue, their physical frame remarkably remaining untouched and their fur color turning into either a dark red or dark green. Requires a Saga Victory. |

Sorry to burst your bubble, and someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but being a 'wolf' in space is pretty much just a Zoanthrope.

I'd wager that they can both be wolves in space due to a few reasons. Primarily, they function differently in both power and culture (see how Zoanthropes more or less roll along humans, while Karyu stood as a warrior race apart from any shared bond), seen as Zoanthropes having human transformations and these guys being centered around alien transformations. On top of that, Zoanthrope appear to be inclined toward shape-shifting (as based upon their examples), while there's no sort of mystical element about these guys. At it's worse potential, it'd be no different than variations we see between current races (such as the various types of current aliens), but at the greatest these guys and gals are of a different stock and path.
But yeah, I guess the Zoanthrope are capable of being wolves in space along with just about any other animal under the sun, probably including monkeys.

Hm, not sure what else to add onto this, I was just stating my opinion not grading lol. not even sure if that was even allowed since I'm not qualified to grade apps. Dunno if posting counts as that
I'll ask another moderator to check this out lol.

Nah bro, I figured you weren't. It doesn't hurt to make that point known though due to the fact it'll likely be the first argument thrown up against these furballs.
Edit: I also left a thing up there for people to comment freely. So if there's anyone at fault it'd be me for allowing people to raise any qualms they'd see with the species.

I would say that this is, in the end, a Zooanthrope! However, I would say this would make an interesting character trope for the Zooanthrope, Yamaga! *Nudges with elbow* Future character idea..!

I'd like to have this indicated as to what makes it the same as Zoanthrope. This is carrying about as much sense to me as someone saying Saiyans and Humans are the same. I was informed someone knew more of the exact reasoning behind this and wouldn't mind hearing it. To my knowledge, the race doesn't share anything in common beyond a potential shared look with Zoanthropes. Zoanthrope follow Human transformation methods (meaning they acquire no "monster form" and have a focus on permanent power-ups, rather than transformations) and have a far different basic/standard personality and cast-type. Zoan, based upon the average idea, aren't on the large side and tend to be mischievous. Karyu, on the other hand, are more along the lines of other Aliens in that they're normally fighters and prefer to fight foes with traditional technique.
TLDR: I don't get this Zoanthrope comparison. If it's just because they're wolves and Zoans CAN be wolves, then just tell me that instead of saying "they're the same" and leaving me in the dark. I'd rather make this race work than get shoo'd away from the idea just because of their appearance.

This doesn't strike me in the least as a Zoanthrope. Instead to me it strikes me as a true evolutionary path of a wolf/wolf like creature from another planet. Though they did kinda read almost like a bear for a moment before everything was said and done. An interesting concept to be sure and well thought out.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Almost like a bear? Huh. Well, I'm glad to have someone who provided feedback and reinforced that this doesn't appear to be Zoanthrope. Just gotta hope that more info is put forward to define how these guys are the same as Zoanthrope.

Here's what I do see that's unique, though it is going to need some necessary balancing:
This is quite the unique trait. However, I do need to ask why it shouldn't simply be a unique trait, similar to how Demons can get the Demon Technique to help them out edgewise? Couldn't you make it actually piercing starting attack that player of this race can start off with of UV3 level, with half-breeds and bio-androids getting a V2 level of this?
Granted, of course, it wouldn't actually operate this way and have to make it into a more defining race mechanic. Just trying to get ya stepping into the right direction, to actually make them different from the normal Zooanthropes of Earth.

Very interesting and detailed work.
A few things.
- We can't have any techniques that interfere whatsoever (positively or negatively) with how KP works, because then we'll be in the business of arbitrating over KP-messing techs rather than just being able to say 'no tech can interfere with KP' which is the rule as it stands.
- Why is a furred creature from a tropical planet and not a temperate or colder planet? Fur tends to evolve in cold climates. Maybe Holster was even hotter at one point, and the fur was an adaptation to relatively colder but still tropical climate -- but if that's the case they should find every other world quite cold.
- You seem to insinuate that maybe they came from werewolves on Earth. Maybe some people from Earth would suspect that in seeing one, but why would a werewolf or a zoanthrope on Earth eventually spawn a species way off in some corner of the galaxy?

I'd missed the section about KP interfering/standing, but it should be noted that the Hunter Fangs are being looked at in a way that they'll fall in line to the standards we have for other species (no KP, probably focus on the techs). That should mean that they're going to be shifted away from altering the user's KP in any form. As for being furred, there are many adaptations that result from having fur even in tropical settings. The first, of course, was that the initial fur from Karyu was used for camouflage. This is also why they have long and short fur. This could also fall in line with them having a much higher baseline body temperature to further make this a more likely evolution. It should also be noted that they'd fought alongside Arcosians for hundreds of years, allowing them even further chances to shift/alter coat lengths and adapt. In short, while it isn't a common choice of evolution, the Karyu's fur was to avoid detection from those it hunted (hence the myriad of colors possible in its coat) and to blend in when it was being hunted. This push for survival is more than enough to warrant it, further supported by both their roaming warrior status for the last hundred years and the idea that their body temperature is high enough that what defines a tropical world is in fact a temperature-neutral one for us.
As for the werewolf thing, it was a joke as I tried to indicate it as a third and more than likely insult-based history. I'll be removing it because I suppose it's in the wrong light and only goes further to reinforce this Zoanthrope connection going on.

Alright, edits have been made. I took a route recommended by Pieter (it was nerfed a bit more than his initial suggestion, due to the fact that these guys aren't meant to outright start stronger than any race) and have included some changes such as the removal of the joke line in the history, amendments to adjust the species to account for their tropical upbringing, and the addition of a third/fourth characteristic to tie into a fact that was highlighted quite a bit. This would be in relation to their symbiotic coexistence with plants before the destruction of Holster, allowing them more shaman-like connections to their world and culture. I feel like this shift is both fitting to their nature and further splits the divide between them and Zoanthropes.

That's making them nill. Ok, lets think about what each of the canon races has to offer:
1) Saiyans: Zenkai/PL boost mid thread after recovering from a near fatal blow, and a plethora of transformations to use at most stages of the game. Oozaru transformations, however, are limited to the time cycle and false moons, and need to undergo vast amounts of training (tech slots) to use the form effectively.
2) Arcosians: Gain Defense +(base), in an attempt to survive against a devastating attack, have early game power, and can breathe in space. Hit a power ceiling very early on and must train extremely to reach one of the strongest late game transformations available on site.
3) Androids: Versatility is the name of the game here. Most races can opt to become a Android, if the original body were to die, but they would lose access to their transformation. They have transformations for all tiers and are always in the highest tiered state that they have access to, and can enter Overdrive (increase transformation multiplier by +3), for even more power! However, they are zenni reliant, to gain special perks.
4) Namekians: Multiple regenerations, so long as the head is intact! In addition, they can choose to be part of a clan, to determine unique perks gained! However, this would then mean they have to stick with that stigmata, upon choosing. Transformations have ceilings, but can be accessed through fission or fusion, if they meet the power requirements!
5) Demons: Small number of transformations, and one of the weakest, if not the weakest final transformation. Their key, however, is their Unique Demon Technique, which operates as an MP3, but gains an additional 100% current power+(4xbase) on top of it, effectively making the ability register like a, maximum, 6 post charged ability despite there being only 5 turns of charging for basic techniques. You'd have to think of it as the Demon 'cheating the system.'
The others are effectively amalgamations of these 5 in some manner. Majins and Bio-Androids, as a quick note, can't go Android because of their natures.

Now that's stated, there has to be a positive trait that can make the race worthwhile to pick up, on top of their transformations.
For instance, a while back, there was a player who wanted to make an Alien race B that had a unique set up where, depending on their path, they could either end up being glass cannons or heavy tanks, at the cost of Offense or Defense power. The race, though it wasn't approved, had a unique trait to make them stand out.
That's what we're looking for with the races.
