Asterian(C Type)
Name Pun Theme(s):
Asterian names are generally based upon celestial bodies like stars, satellites, comets, and asteroids or cosmic forces such as light, gravity, or time, and are often coupled with titles befitting nobility in other societies. Examples are Duke Lebuna(Nebula), Queen Gryitav(Gravity), Millial(Millennium), etc.
Canon Examples:
N/A(No canon characters of this race exist.)
Starting Planet: Anywhere
Starting Power Level: 1500-2000
Appearance: In their base form upon birth, Asterians will generally take on a humanoid shape to better blend in with the intelligent species of the galaxy, although this isn't always the case. The colors and shapes of their bodies are usually based upon the persona of the Asterian in question. They will usually have some type of 'hair' or 'mane' that radiates from their body around their core, and this hair is more like a flow of cosmic energy tapering from their core rather than actual hair. It's constantly wafting in a rhythmic manner even when no environmental or weather factors would cause it to move otherwise. They are not shape changers, and their body's form is set without use of a technique or transformation. With such a variety of possible appearances, however, there is one factor that remains the same the same. Every Asterian has a large crystal as the focus of their body. The crystal is always their head or face. The color, shape, and size of the crystal also varies from individual to individual.
Background:The race of star children very rarely knows or understands its own origins. Some fear their own power, while others embrace it. Memories of their birth are usually filled with uncertainty and catastrophe, largely due in part to how they are born. For every beginning there is an end, and Asterians are no different. At the end of a star's life, when it implodes and goes supernova, there is a massive release of energy. This burst of destructive force often wipes out numerous other celestial bodies in its wake, but from that destruction something else is born.
The core of these stars is under such tremendous pressure when they finally reach their end that those lucky enough not to become black holes are instead given a new form and a chance at life. All the life energy extinguished in the star's final burst is compacted in the implosion along with all the radiant power that the star's core is capable of producing. The result is a singular crystal. The size and color of the crystal is dependent upon the size of the star and how brightly it burned just before its final moments. The resulting explosion sends this crystal cascading through space, and the well of life concentrated within starts to gather space dust from the blast and binding it together, forming a new body.
This is how Asterians are born. The death of a star and the life of those unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast are crystallized and given a new form. The souls of the departed go on to be in the afterlife while the vital energy that kept their bodies going is given new purpose, forging a soul for an entirely new being. Asterians are not as rare as one would think, for as many stars are in the sky surely just as many have already perished in the eons that have passed since time began.
Society: Given the nature of their birth and the possibility of two meeting in the same place, it is unlikely that a large cluster of Asterians would occur unless it was intentionally orchestrated. Simply socializing wouldn't be enough as they find socialization with other species more interesting. Rather, each individual will take their unique opportunity at life and try to find purpose in their being in and around the other races of the galaxy. Although the memories are faint, they will all remember the forceful and radiant birth they had, and this catastrophic beginning will often drive them to ever improve themselves so that the destruction caused by their beginning might be worth something in the end.
Racial Abilities:
- Born of the Stars - Asterians are born in the vacuum of space, and thus they can survive there without aid from birth. They also do not require food or water to sustain themselves due to the lack of such in space. They do sleep, however.
- Faceless Brilliance - Asterians' cores function as their faces, and so they don't have eyes or mouths in the same way that most other living creatures do. Thus, they have to use other means to communicate. They have to speak telepathically. Their core will emit a faint glow when they are speaking to someone.
- Sun's Intensity - Asterians draw on their parents' power from the time they are born, and in particularly intense battles they can unleash a small glimpse of that strength with a surge of blazing power. This empowers a single attack once per thread to function at +x2 power above their base form or current transformation.
- Dormant Stasis - Asterians are living beings and can perish just like any other; They are not immortal. However, their core cannot be destroyed. It will go into inert stasis when their soul passes on to the afterlife, and upon revival their body will reform around the core, bringing them back in the same place they died.
Transformations:
- Cosmic Surge x12(Temporary) - 0 PL - Requires Celestial Event - An overflow of energy from a nearby Celestial Event causes the Asterian to revert to a more feral and primal form. Their power is tremendously increased from its natural state, but the overwhelming power coursing through them causes them to lose control. They will generally grow two or three times in size as well as taking the shape of a mythical creature such as a griffon, a basilisk, or a cerberus as they rampage and thrash about.
- Solar Burst x8(Temporary) - 60,000 PL - After some training to better control their volatile power, Asterians are capable of temporarily raising their strength, speed, and durability to new heights. Unlike when they are overtaken by a Cosmic Surge, Asterians retain full control of their mental faculties while in this form, allowing them more efficient and effective fighting prowess despite being marginally weaker than their monstrous form.
- Mnemonic Flare x16(Permanent) - 150,000 PL - Requires Ki Suppression - After far more intense and focused training, the Asterian reaches a new height of their power. The memory of their birth triggers an awakening in them that wasn't possible before achieving this level of power. Their aura starts to ripple and flare out from the intense rise in their power. This form is the mastery of their birthright. Their body grows a somewhere between one to two feet taller and they retain some of the traits of their feral state gained from the Cosmic Surge transformation. For a Cerberus it could be the canine tail and claws, for the basilisk it could be the reptilian tail and large fangs, and for the griffon it could be the wings and beak. These are just examples, though. Overall their humanoid shape will be maintained, with a couple of animalistic additions from their feral form and notable increase in size.
- Primal Flare x20/x12(Temporary) - 180,000 PL - Requires Power Weighting - Further training and learning the ability to push their raw power to new heights gives the Asterian a risky, but powerful new form. They will take on a hybrid mythical and humanoid form in a similar manner to a werewolf being half wolf-half human. They maintain their mental faculties and can fight with full control over their form, but there is a drawback. Focusing so much of their might towards destructive force greatly reduces their speed and durability. This form is much closer to the true form of an Asterian as it holds true to the nature of a star, burning so brightly that it sacrifices its own longevity.
- Radiant Nova x24(Permanent) - 240,000 PL - A level that few Asterians have ever reached. This form allows the Asterian to keep the size of their base form, but they take on a more refined hybrid form. Their bodies gain a crystalline sheen all over and they take on all the mythical traits such as claws/talons, beaks, fangs, tails, wings, etc. of their mythic forms from the Cosmic Surge and Primal Flare forms, but their overall body shape remains humanoid.
- Stellar Fury x32/x24(Temporary) - 300,000 PL - With their new Radiant Nova form, the Asterian realizes it's possible to push their Primal Flare form to the next level as well. The crystalline sheen of their Radiant Nova form persists in this form, but they take on a larger and bulkier primal form. This form is more mythic creature than humanoid, and although it can stand on two legs in most cases it will instead usually move on all fours or by slithering or floating. Once again they focus all of their strength on offense, sacrificing their defensive capabilities to produce even more powerful attacks. They have almost fully mastered control of their less humanoid form, and so they are in full mental control while in this form.
- Prismatic Supernova x43(Permanent) - 450,000 PL - The Asterian has finally realized the full power of the destructive supernova that gave birth to them, but they have learned to control it to the fullest through rigorous and devoted training. They have become a creature of myth and legend just like the ones that astrologists have seed in the stars. Their humanoid form is completely lost, but they retain the intelligence of their humanoid form. Born of stardust and a blazing will, an Asterian that ascends to this form will have their whole body covered in a crystalline sheen and energy will ripple off of their body in powerful flares that can warp their environment when they are in the heat of battle. Their size is variable, as some mythic entities are human sized while some are larger than houses.
