Cipher quietly looked over the various tomes set out before him. Just how many of these had he gone through so far? There were a vast variety of magical secrets open to him. Spells, rituals. There was even one for communicating with the dead. While Cipher thought that might be useful, at least to get in contact with Reikiko to give a statues report, the problem was a number of components he didn't even recognize. Plus, he still wasn't even sure he could even use magic. So he would have to give it a miss. Besides, trying to gather the ingredients for a spell to communicate with the dead might rouse some suspicion. He didn't want the Konatsians learning that Reikiko was dead. It could put a major spanner in the whole religion plan. But he was still no closer to finding what they were looking for.
A gentle knock on the door pulled him from his studies, as he turned towards the door. "You may come in," Cipher called out. The door opened and the old Konatsian who brought Cipher here stepped in. "I do hope I'm not interrupting anything," he said, though something in his tone stated that he didn't really care if he was interrupting anything. That frankness was something Cipher could respect and appreciate about this man. It was a welcome change to the people looking at him in fear and awe. Beneath his mask, he smiled as he turned to him. "Not at all. It's time I took a bit of a break anyway." Just how long had he been studying for? He didn't know. The ability to go without sleeping or eating for long periods of time could be a bother at times. The old man nodded. "I'm glad to see you're enjoying our library," he said, approaching the table, "I the people have gotten to know your associates more than you. Tell me, is there anything in particular you're looking for? If you need any help, I can assist."
Cipher had been tempted to ask him. Anything that could help someone ascend to kami-hood. Something to allow the creation of artifacts like the dragonballs. Due to the current situation on Namek, Cipher would be unable to go there for the time being, forcing him to rely on the magical secrets of Konats. However, he knew he couldn't do that. Any specific requests will be met with questions. And this man was definitely a sharp one. If the truth about Reikiko's 'divinity' came out, who knew how the Konatsians would react? And the Kashvar, who already didn't like the idea of Cipher being here, would no doubt use that to his advantage. He resisted the urge to sigh as he shook his head. "No thank you, though I appreciate the offer. I'm simply seeing the wonders that you've people have inscribed over the years. It's amazing really. You should be proud."
The old man nodded. He didn't seem entirely convinced, but he was willing to take the compliment either way. "Thank you for your kind words," he said, turning away from him but looking back over his shoulder, "I just came to tell you, progress with the temple is going along smoothly." Cipher nodded his head as he turned back to the book he was reading. However, at that point, the old man's words actually clicked in his mind. Cipher slowly turned to look back at him.
"Temple?"
Oh great Kami, they actually built a temple...
Cipher stood there, dumbstruck as he looked at the stone building before him, the old man by his side. Before him was a large stone temple, numerous Konatsians working on its construction, wooden scaffolding holding up some of the places. Cipher couldn't believe his eyes. Thank goodness for the mask, otherwise everyone would see his jaw hanging open.
As he stood there, Porsalynne and Charlene, in their 'religious garbs' approached him. "Isn't it wonderful?" Porsalynne spoke up, clearly excited by this, "Everyone's been so enthusiastic about this! Look at what they've done!" This was too much. They were erecting temples in Reikiko's honour. Just how had they managed to make this place so quickly? He hadn't been here for long. Cipher could feel this whole plan starting to spiral out of control. Almost as if sensing the android's anxiety, the old man spoke up. "This old place was built centuries ago, used as a temple for some ancient god nobody worships anymore. I guess it was due to sentiment that nobody really tore it down and replaced it. Well, some folks got the idea of converting this place to honour your White Queen. It gave them something to do, and it wasn't hurting anyone, so we figured why not." Cipher barely stopped himself from visibly relaxing. They were just using an old temple. If they had built the entire thing from scratch...well, at least this was a little better. His 'religion' had encouraged them to reuse an old building for a new purpose. Well, as long as they were happy...
One of the workers approached, smiling and giving a formal bow to Cipher. "I'm glad to see you here prophet. We hope that the White Queen will like the temple we're constructing for her." Cipher gave a small nod. "I'm sure she will be most pleased." And if she's not, I will smack her until she appreciates it dammit! His words caused the worker to beam brightly. "Well then, shall I show you the inside? We're still working on it, but it should give you a general idea of the layout." Cipher figured it wouldn't hurt and followed the enthusiastic konatsian inside.
Inside, the temple was a wide, open space, columns lining the sides and what appeared to be an alter in the far back of the chamber, currently being reworked of course to suit their new 'deity'. Cipher at this point realized he hadn't told them what Reikiko looked like. How to explain to people that their 'goddess' resembled a bug lady of sorts? In the middle, the roof opened up, allowing light to shine down on the chamber, the opening covered by a glass dome. Cipher looked around. "I must say, a fine job you and your people are doing," he complimented. The worker's smile widened. "Thank you very much. Is there anything we should add? Anything the White Queen will approve of?"
Before Cipher could say anything, Porsalynne made a thoughtful sound as she stepped forward, looking around. "An apple tree," she declared, "We need an apple tree. Right here." She pointed to the spot where the light shone down. The worker blinked. "Apple...tree?"[/color] Porsalynne spun around in a flourish. "Yes! Apples! They are the sacred fruit on which the White Queen likes to dine. Sweet, and as red as the jewel on her crown!"
Cipher quickly approached her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "My dear companion, may I speak with you for just a moment?" Porsalynne blinked behind her mask and followed him as he led her away, suddenly leaning in and speaking in hushed tones. "Need I remind you dear that we are on an alien planet that does not. Have. Apples?" Porsalynne let out a gasp. "Oh dear! You're absolutely right!" "Um, Prophet?" the worker spoke up, causing the, both to look over at him, "We don't have these 'apples' you speak of, but maybe if you could possibly give us some, perhaps we can plant the tree of which you spoke. We want to make sure the queen is pleased after all."
Cipher tried not to sigh as he nodded and gave a small gesture to say 'in a moment' before turning back to Porsalynne. "Are you able to fly the ship!" Porsalynne shook her head slightly, "Not very well, but I know Charlene can. I've seen how she's studying you while you fly it." While Cipher didn't feel entirely comfortable about letting their ten year old daughter fly the ship, he knew he was low in opens, so he let it slide. "Ok, I need you and Charlene to head back to Earth and pick up some apples." he honestly couldn't believe he was suggesting this. Travel across the galaxy to get some fruit of all things. "Whatever you do, don't contact the BBA. Stay away from their sites. I don't want them finding out what we're doing and possibly interfering." He knew tensions between Reikiko and Vi-Poi were tight before she died. He didn't want to think how Vi-Poi would react to this.
Porsalynne nodded. "Oh, and while I'm there's I can get in contact with Hikari and Yuki, fill them in on the situation." Cipher nodded. That was indeed a good plan. While Hikari was aware of Reikiko's plans for the Chimera Federation (he hoped), she didn't know what Cipher was doing. Maybe the news would help her. No doubt she and Yuki were grieving Reikiko's loss. "Very well. But please be careful. I can't leave Konats right now, and I don't want anything to happen to either of you." Even though the mask covered her face, Cipher could tell she was smiling. "We'll be fine, don't worry."
The two pulled away from eachother and turned to face the worker. "My companion shall, go and bring apples to you, so you may see the holy fruit. It will take some time, but you will see them." Porsalynne nodded towards the worker before walking away, collecting Charlene and leading her out of the temple, whispering the plan to her. With the two of them gone, the worker turned back to Cipher. "Thank you Prophet. We'll make sure that this temple is fit for he queen!" Cipher bowed his head. "I'm sure you will not disappoint," he replied. He was about to walk away when the worker stopped him.
"I hate to bother you again Prophet, and I'm sure you must be busy, but we were just wondering. We don't get to see you much and we were thinking, since you're here, maybe you could teach us a bit more about the White Queen? It might help motivate some of us a bit more." Cipher blinked from behind his mask, his expression thankfully covered. "You mean, like a sermon?"
Oh dear...
A gentle knock on the door pulled him from his studies, as he turned towards the door. "You may come in," Cipher called out. The door opened and the old Konatsian who brought Cipher here stepped in.
