A stark mountaintop, black like coal against the melancholy gray sky. Sprinkled across it were patches of pure undisturbed snow, blunting the jagged ridges of the rocky peaks. There was no snow at the time. The cushion of white seemed to both muffle and magnify any sound made. The entire area seemed devoid of nature, save for a few trees sprinkled here and there. The mountain was widely unpleasant.
The arcosian child was nearly indistinguishable from the snow he stood on, save for the few teal gems embedded in his forehead and limbs. His tail was dragging in the snow, and his feet reluctantly trudged forward, step after step. The boy, no older than 8, seemed to be fighting severe fatigue. Eventually, he came to a halt. Shivers didn't wrack his body, he was immune to the cold, but exhaustion made his eyelids heavy. "Is… Is anyoONE THERE?" He started his sentence croaking out a whimper, and finished it a shrill shout. He sighed, his chest heavy with loneliness.
The child then turned around, and began running back down the side of the mountain where he had came, aided by gravity's momentum. He slid to a halt at a small group of trees. Seemingly rejuvenated by an idea, the boy sliced through the trunk of a pine tree with a sharp beam of Ki, before punting the newly amputated treetop back up the mountain from where he came.
He pulled back his arm, forming a ball of condensed blue green energy in his palm, before hurling it forward with all of his might. A moment later, a hearty fwoosh would break the nature's silence, as the tree erupted into splinters, and the pile of wood combusted into a sizable flame. The child now flew back up to his former spot on the mountain side, perching next to the fire as it crackled. Now he just had to find something to cook.
His spindly legs carried him across the snow, leaving fresh three toed footprints in the virgin snow. But alas, the area seemed lifeless, save for the few trees scattered here and there. Brisk plopped down in the snow, frustrated, squeezing his eyes shut as he sprawled out on his back. And then, he heard a noise.
A quiet, sort of whirring noise, like a computer might make. Brisk stood up, opening his eyes to affirm that the sound wasn't a construct of his weary imagination. But it remained. He covered one ear, and then the other, and the sound appeared to be coming from both sides of his head at once. He flew up in the air, and the sound lessened… And when he pressed his ear to the mountain snow, it became louder. The sound was coming from the inside of the mountain.
The child quickly sprinted up the side of the mountain, forming a bubble of Ki in his hand before curve-balling it at the fire, which it exploded and thereby snuffed out. The boy was now fully intrigued. When he reached the peak of the current sub mountain he was exploring, the mysterious noise was still there, as if the giant landmass itself was breathing. Brisk looked around curiously, searching for anything that could be generating such a noise when his eyes finally landed on a small pile of boulders.
The boulders were gray. Gray. Not coal black. The rest of the mountain was entirely jet black, causing the secluded pile of rubble to stick out like a sore thumb. Brisk stumbled down the side of the mountain, and tripped. He simply decided to roll the rest of the way down, tumbling on his side until he reached the lower plateau of the mountain cliffs. The child stood up and looked left and right, as if checking if there was anyone else there watching. When he confirmed (by sight) that he was alone, he made a break for it over to the gray boulders.
The arcosian came to a halt in front of the stones. A shrill high pitched beep pierced Brisk's ears, and then moved up a pitch inquisitively. Brisk decided that the rocks were trying to ask him a question. The sound then rang out again.
"Beeeee-BEEP?"
"I don't speak rock!" He finally told the misguided stones.
"Beeeee-BEEP?"
"Hey! Knock it off! I don't speak rock and that sound is really loud!" The child walked even closer to the rocks, trying to examine the pile.
"Beeeee-BEEP?"
"Shhh!"
"Beeeee-BEEP?"
Brisk was frustrated now.
"Okay, you asked for it!!!!!!" The child leapt into the air, levitating with both hands above his head as a basketball sized orb of energy formed between his fingertips, charging with a soft crackle.
"Beeeee-BE—"
The sharp tone was interrupted by the definitive boom of ki. The rocks were vaporized by the detonation of the ki bomb the child had hurled at them. He landed back on the ground, and looked left and right once more. He hoped nobody had seen him kill those rock people! They were just so annoying.. The boy then looked down as the snow that had been flung into the air dispersed. Where the oddly colored boulders had once stood… Was now what appeared to be a chrome metal hallway, with blue, purple, and pink wires lining the walls. The small square port looked like it went a long long way down.
What on Arcose was this!?
