(Thread PL: 1,947)
The city streets were quiet in this part of town. Treylech had memorized the layout of every back alley by now. This city had been his home for his whole life and the farthest he had trekked outside was still within eyeshot of the outermost buildings.
He could swear by now that he had fought every back alley thug. He knew it now. He was unstoppable.
Today was different, though. For some reason everything was stacked against him. He had injured himself a couple times already and he was struck with an overwhelming sense of mortality.
He wanted so badly to shrug it off. To fight again would open up his mind again. It would expose his all but immortal state one more time. There was only one problem...
Grrrrrrmmmmmmmm~
"Oh crap. I haven't eaten today!" He practically folded over himself with hunger. His eyes darted around until they fell on a convenience store.
He patted his pockets looking for money. There was none. He crammed his fists down into them in defeat. "Great..."
Grrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmm~
He doubled over again. "Ohhh......I'm sorry mom..." He knew she would disapprove of what he was planning to do.
He stepped inside the doors to the convenience store and located the food. Grabbing a couple handfuls of food, he stuffed his pockets, and then stuffed his face, leaving out the front door at a quick pace. He heard the cashier's shouts follow him out calling him a thief. "Mowrry!" he calls back through a mouthful of food.
He knew what he would do if he ever became rich. He would pay for the food he stole. As for the time being, he would have to wait to do so.

( Treylech So sorry, but I had a few RL issues to attend to. Responding now if you're still interested!) (Thread PL: 165,230.) Raisu walked down the streets of the West Capitol. It was an interesting place. He didn't want to call it lovely, but it was nice. Raisu quite enjoyed the cityscape. After all, he considered himself an explorer. And that included the urban jungle, the steel forest. And besides, he was a bit familiar with the West Capitol. He'd met Jarvis here. And at the man's own bar, no less. If the Monkey's Paw was here, it must surely be a happening place. Raisu turned onto a strangely empty street. Odd, he thought, but he'd not question it. It might be nice to step away from all the people for once. And there was a serenity in quiet. Who knew what might be tucked away on this street? So far, stores and closed buildings. Nothing unusual for a city, of course, but at least he was keeping himself occupied. That was all he could ask for. Suddenly, a man burst from a store in front of him, a cashier crying out about thievery. Interesting, he thought. The thief's power signature was quite large, at least for a human's. Luckily, he didn't get violent with the cashier, but if anyone was going to chase him down, it best be Raisu. He was, at the moment, the best person to deal with this. It would be his good deed for the day. "Hey, you, thief! Stop!" Raisu shouted as he chase after him. He was moving fast, his far above human speed carrying him down the street. He could fly after the man, but where was the fun in that? Raisu might enjoy a good foot chase. And besides, it wasn't as if he intended to hurt the guy. Maybe just drag him back and make him apologize. Raisu wasn't a police man. Not his place to jail somebody.

(It's all good. This is for fun. Life is more important. I figured you were preoccupied because of your post in the absence thread.)
Thief.
The word hit him. Unfortunately, he couldn't argue with it. His mother would frown in disappointment. If she were still around.
The words of the cashier had fallen upon a random persons ears, and of course this person was a good samaritan. Just what he needed.
Thief.
That word hit him in the back of the head again. The good samaritan took chase. He wanted to avoid a confrontation, so he put in as much speed as he could muster up.
While Treylech was above average in power, he wasn't much faster than most people. He would stand and fight rather than run away.
Still, his pursuer behind him must have run a lot of marathons, because he was catching up rather easily. If Treylech was supposed to escape, he would have to out maneuver the man. He caught a glimpse of an alley off on the side that he could use, but it was blocked off by a fence.
"Perfect," he mused. He took a leap at the wall, placed his hand on the top of the fence, and pushed off, spinning his body over the fence and landing safely on the other side where he took off running again.
At the first doorway he tucked himself into the shadows, unaware that his energy signature was giving away his current position. He held his breath, hoping he could remain concealed.

The man wasn't much faster than the average person. Raisu frowned. That was odd. He was certainly far above average in-terms of a ki signature. Perhaps he just lacked some refinement. Either way, Raisu was not going to give up the chase. And Raisu was rapidly gaining on him, despite the lead the man, or boy, had had at first.
Suddenly, the boy veered off his path and towards an alley, one blocked by a fence. Raisu half-expected the boy to collide with it, like a gag from a slapstick routine. But no, the boy lept and cleared the fence by pulling himself over it. Raisu even found himself impressed by the way the thief was manuevering. He moved well, like he'd done this before. Perhaps he expected to throw Raisu off his path, but little did he know that Raisu was just as capable as he.
Raisu came to the alley and quickly turned, the sudden change of direction sending his brain through a loop. Quickly though, he bounded over the fence, his mastery of flight serving him well. And further more, this fence was nothing to someone who had done training at forty times the Earth's gravity. As Raisu came down on the other side, the thief was nowhere in sight. He must have skedaddled, thought Raisu. But he wouldn't get far.
Raisu closed his eyes and concentrated, seeking out the thief's ki signature. And there it was. Indeed, he had not gotten far. Raisu turned his head and took a small step towards a doorway, plain and nondescript. Raisu grinned. He was proud of his ability to sense ki, and this was definitely a case it came in handy: he would have ran right by it if he'd not been able to sense the thief's ki. He was clever, Raisu had to give him that. Anybody else would have been fooled by it. But today just wasn't the thief's day.
"Alright," said Raisu, speaking aloud. "Come on out and we'll talk like people. Don't come out, and I'll drag you back like a dog or something."
It was the thief's choice, whatever he did.

The little ultimatum came as no shock to Treylech. He sighed and leaned his head back against the wall. Staring blankly at the overhang above him, he resumed his regular breathing. It bothered him how easily the pursuer had caught up.
No, that wasn't right. It was more of an annoyance that he had been found so easily. He was certain the man didn't see him enter the doorframe. He swallowed a growl as his annoyance turned to agitation letting out more of a stifled grunt.
"You're quite the athlete, huh?" he stepped out of the shadows. "I'm not gonna threaten you for helping out the shop owner. It's nice of you," he confesses.
"But you should really think before you start chasing someone. Who knows how dangerous they could be." He raises his fists. "If I could avoid fighting I would, but I don't run for a reason."
Grrrrrrmmmmmmmm~
Just like that his fighting stance dissipates. His stomach was still empty. While he had managed a few bites before the chase kicked in, he still burned it all off while clearing the fence.
In his mind, he thought his opponent was lucky. He wouldn't have to fight. "Alright. I'll come quietly..."

Thankfully, the thief saw reason. Good, thought Raisu, glad to see that some people in this world still have sense. Thankfully, this proved to be quite simple. Almost too simple, but he was not going to complain. It was about time that something went his way. Nothing semeed to these days, and he was glad for the easy success in this matter. At least it had provided him with something to do.
Sadly, the thief seemed like a nice enough guy. At least he understood he was in the wrong it seemed. But just as easily, the man raised his fists. Raisu cocked his head to the side. Interesting, he thought. Raisu was not even hiding his own power this time. Could the boy not sense ki? A pity. It was a useful ability, one that had saved Raisu's skin a few times.
Raisu almost wanted the boy to punch him. Even if it wouldn't particularly hurt, it was always nice to get a taste of someone else's power. But sadly, it seemed that it wouldn't be the case. Well then, thought Raisu. At least he would come quietly.
"Well," said Raisu, "Glad to see you're handling this well. And, by the way, I think I can handle myself."
Raisu chuckled to himself. If this boy truely didn't know the disparity between them, it would have been a funny encounter. Though he had a point. Raisu did tend to gind himself in trouble, usually from rushing head in. Raisu leaned in and clapped the guy on the shoulder.
"Well, let's get going. Say, why you stealin' anyway?"

His reasons were hard to accept himself. He knew he didn't have money. He couldn't get a job because of his criminal record. Part of him hated that his mother had bailed him out.
Prison was easy. Eat. Sleep. Fight where needed. Honestly he wouldn't have had a problem if she had left him in. She would have had her surgery and he would have lasted longer without having to struggle.
Maybe he should have continued in the tournament.
No.
He had to see his mother one last time, and the funeral wouldn't have been enough.
His original thought was to strike the man when his back was turned to knock him out, but he had a kind heart. It reminded him of his mother's own selfless mentality. He didn't understand, but now he definitely couldn't raise his hand against the person before him.
He felt it. A wave of depression struck him hard as the reality of his act sunk in. He stole again, despite what his mother wanted of him.
"Hard times. No money. Can't get a job because of my record. Hell, the only real talent I have is fighting," he mutters. He didn't expect to say that much, but for the first time in his life, it felt like a way to avoid the fighting. It was confusing. Uncomfortable.
But at least he wasn't hurting anyone. He knew his mother would approve of that much, in the very least.

Raisu nodded. It certainly sounded like he had it rough. Times were tough all around these days it seemed. But stealing certainly wasn't the answer. Raisu began to walk. Hopefully, the thief would follow. Not that Raisu was worried. He would just catch the thief again if they ran away.
"Hard times, huh? I get you. Been there myself. Though I made those choices, myself..."
Raisu spoke as he walked. He was, of course, referring to his times on the road. Of course, growing up with a single mother in the South Capitol, he was used to monetary hardship. But, he didn't really know what it was like to be poor. He always had food and roof over his head. But the road was different. Out there, there were certain things that were tougher than others and money could be in short supply. Not that he'd ever resorted to stealing, though.
"Fighting, huh? You know, somehow, I believe that. You got that look about you."
Of course, he had the ki about him, too.
"So," began Raisu, "You seem like a resourceful guy. No work? Not even in construction or something? In my experience, they're always looking for strong guys."
Raisu had done a little construction work himself, in the past. It was boring, but it paid out and he had needed the money. Hell, he'd even done fight clubs for money.
"Or... How about hunting? It's not hard. I mean, I get it. Times are tough. But man, you gotta do right by others."

(I apologize for any short posts I get out. It's hard to judge actual length on my phone, and I don't have my laptop working yet.)
Treylech contemplated his next action, hesitating for only a moment before stepping in behind the man. It felt like his only real option.
He knew with certainty that he wasn't able to outrun the man, and he wasn't about to lash out after the kindness the man had shown. He found the man trustworthy enough for the time being.
His suggestions, however...
"Construction would be easy, but I don't think they'll take me back after the brawl I had gotten into. A guy got really disrespectful to a woman that walked by. So I beat his face in."
"And I don't kill."
He refused to. Men, women, and animals, no one deserved to have their life taken by someone else. He didn't like the thought, especially considering his mother was taken too soon.
Grrrroooooooowwwwwwwmmmmmmmm~
"Ugh..." He doubled over his stomach again as it let out a loud growl. "Dammit....Maybe he'll let me work off my debt..." He ran his hand back through his hair.

(Hey, no worries! I think your posts are just fine, and I know what it can be like posting from mobile.)
Raisu listened as the thief spoke. Interesting. So the man had his work, or lack of, cut out for him. That was quite the bed he had made, and it sucked that he had to lay in it. Raisu glanced behind his shoulder for just a second, looking to make sure the thief was following. Raisu was pleased to see that he was. Good.
He didn't kill? Interesting. Raisu didn't kill himself. At least not people. Come to think of it, he hadn't killed animals much either. Just fish. But still, he'd rather go fishing than steal from someone. Morality was a funny thing. Where did the slaying of a fish land on the scale compared to stealing? Raisu certainly did not know. He only had a vague idea of where it fit into his own moral code; He'd never given it much thought before.
The thief seemed repentant. Thank Kami, Raisu thought to himself. That would make things easy.
"Maybe he will. You know, I'll buy you food if you play nice," Raisu offered. Now, Raisu did not have much in the way of spending money himself, but it was, in his mind, the right thing to do. A little kindness went a long way.

An offer to buy it for him? Treylech was skeptical. He was far from believing the word of someone he just met. Then there was the issue of him accepting money from someone else when he didn't earn it.
"I'll pass. It's funny that you're asking me to play nice. I came willingly."
He didn't see this situation being so easy. He just prayed it wouldn't lash back at him. He came to a stop just out front of the convenience store he had just stolen from.
The cashier wasn't at the register anymore. He was looking over the empty rack that Treylech had pillaged not even ten minutes before.
He felt his heart sink a little. He wasn't looking forward to this confrontation.
It was a little one sided, though. The cashier erupted as soon as he saw Treylech.
"What are you doing here? I want you out. You caused enough damage, you little punk!" The cashier points to the counter. "If you want to make up for what you stole, leave whatever you didn't choke on there on the counter and go. Get out of here and never come back!"
Treylech holds his hands up as a sign of surrender. He walks over and places the stolen food on the counter. He walks back toward the door. Stepping out, he leans against the wall in defeat.

He had a point. He did come along easily enough. Perhaps Raisu was just making converse, but it was a genuine offer. They finally reached the convenience store, though, and Raisu watched as the situation unfolded. The thief couldn't even get a word in edgewise. Ouch, thought Raisu. Harsh. Raisu could understand why, though. No one likes a thief. But still, Raisu couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the guy. He certainly played it the best he could.
Raisu followed him out of the store and stood beside him for a moment. He whistled a tune to himself before speaking.
"Hey, at least you tried. More than some folks could say." Raisu said amiably. He always did try and look on the bright side.
"So, what're you going to do next? You gotta eat."

(I had a lot of fun writing this one, lol.)
Grrrrrrooooooowwwwwwmmmmmm
"Ugh. I suppose stealing, pillaging, and murder are out of the question?" He chuckles lightly, not really intending any of it.
"I could dig through people's garbage. Sell my soul. Beg. I don't know. I've never been good at finding a legal solution to problems.
"That's why I robbed a bank, wound up in jail, and my mother used all her money to bail me out instead of paying for her life-saving surge..."
Everything about him stops.
His thoughts.
His words.
His body.
Everything comes to a sliding halt as a look of dread envelopes him. He had done it now.
He never spoke about his past. Why was this time any different?
Because this person seemed to care. At least enough to offer help instead of hurling threats made of curses and stone. He let out a heavy sigh.
"Nevermind...I just don't know what to do with myself. The only thing I've ever really known is fighting, so it's the only thing I've focused on getting good at, Mr.......?"

(Yeah, I'm having fun with this thread as well.)
Raisu listened to the thief speak, nodding along. Yeah, those were all options. Not good ones but they were options none the less. This guy had clearly made some mistakes, but hey, everyone did. What was important was how you dealt with them. Raisu's heart went out to the guy.
"The name's Raisu. Nice to meet you, though I guess it could have been under better circumstances. Your name?"
Raisu turned to face him in full and stuck out a hand. Maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all. Raisu could understand only knowing fighting. Hell, it seemed to be the only thing he was good at these days. It was, after all, in his blood. It was a gift, a curse, and something in between.

Raisu. Finally, a name to the face. Treylech already had a lot of respect for this man. He found himself smiling for the first time in a long time.
"Raisu, huh? I'm Treylech. Trey for short." He returned the handshake. "Yeah, different circumstances would have been preferred. I guess I should apologize for that, since you were dragged into it."
He knew he was stubborn. It didn't seem to bother him, knowing that he was making the entire situation harder on himself. Raisu had already offered to buy him the food once, but he was insistent on earning it himself.
He needed to figure out something, but he had no idea where to start. "Maybe I should start bounty hunting," he throws out, jokingly.
