Letrune had had a bad record in getting home so far, since the invasion happened. Two weeks after the fights, she finally arrived to the West Capitol, mostly by hitchhiking and by bus. It was a very long trip and the tired zoanthrope lady stretched her arms and legs as she exited the bus.
The city was in the process of being rebuilt and the outskirts had seem to be hit hard. Many places had scaffoldings and she could not even see her own house... But the area seems to be fine.
With a pumping heart, she starts to walk the streets, excited over the prospect of finally returning home. Mother must be happy to know I am all right - she thought as she skipped over some stairs and turned to her street.
The apartment block had a lot of workers around and she could feel the warmth of getting home. She imagined her mother, peacefully reading a book, and when they see each other, just a happy hug, all the tension disappearing and just pure joy remaining. Scaling the stairs, she already felt the homecooked food' supebs taste, both of them making it together, and laughing like when she was young. She turns the key and opens the door...
...And a human male sits on the couch, reading a newspaper.
"Um... Excuse me... Do I know you?" she asks.
"No. Who are you?"
"...I... Live here..." Letrune says, and looks around. These things are not her mother's... But the couch is... And the curtains too...
"Mommy?"
"I live here since a week now."
"...But mother would have not leave without noting me..." she says, confused and sad. Se goes into the apartment, and starts to run to the rooms. The kitchen is empty. She can still feel that scent of the parfume... The man wants to stop her but she slips between his legs and without realizing that she is being talked to, she opens the door to the small corridor and the bedrooms. Mother might just sleep...!
The rooms are gone. There is a hole in the building, with a secure rail stopping Letrune from falling down two stories. The confusion gives way to shock.
"...be elsewhere." The man finishes his tirade but Letrune is deaf to him. Her eyes are attuned to the past now... The bedtime stories, giggles, the gentle words she gave...
"Sorry, kid." He says and gently leads Letrune to the door. The zoanthrope mindlessly walks down and stops at the street, just standing among the people.
She collapses on the roadside curb, and tries to get herself back to the now and there.
