"You can literally see the Space Pods, Jamie. And yet here we are, selling apples." The old Saiyan sighed, arms crossed over broad chest as he watched the market get along. Jamie had refused to not go on his weekly trip down to the South Capitol, intent on selling the fruits of his Orchard. The small town Val guarded wasn't much after all, and the business helped the entire places economy keep from being dirt low. Jamie and his apple trees being a big part of the market there. And the Southern Folk sure did love mountain apples, even the veteran warrior had to agree. Rubbing his bear din thought, the soldier looked over the exchanges of goods. Keeping a trained eye on the horizon, knowing full well that the Solar Empire was poised to strike at the entire planet.
"Val! Good to see your still kicking." A rancher teased, setting a stack of wrapped meat on the table next to the back of Jamies truck. "Well, what can I say. Must be the mountain air and keepin' the lil'uns safe." The ex-pirate knocked his metal fingers on Jamies head. Earning a grunt of annoyance from the white haired youth. He was busy bagging and exchanging apples. A neat stack of Zenni bulging his pocket out nicely as Val did what he always did when nothing was to be done. Light a cigar, puff away, and look over his wards. "When ya gonna come work for me? Plenty of wranglers could use with a rough fist or two." Earl replied, cutting a thick slab of charred meat off the roaster and exchanging it for a few coins. "C'mon now brother, you know I ain't going to go down here. South is too hot and too busy for me, rather enjoy my time up where there's at least a climate. Too humid for me."
The exchange continued for a fair amount of time, before the Saiyan warrior lent back in the truck. Arms tucking behind his head as he watched the skies. Saiyan Empires, Changelings, at least most the Namekians were chill. The cigar rolled between his lips, puffs of acrid smoke rolling between thin, scarred lips.

(Thread PL: 30,856. Heavy weights on. Weighted PL: 7,700.)
And so it was, Raisu found himself walking away from the South Capitol. His breathing was heavy, and his shirt was soaked through with sweat. He'd done his part for now. That had not been what he wanted, fighting in the streets of the South Capitol, hoping to avoid the ire of the Saiyan Elites while fighting the rank and file soldiers. But that blond boy and his catfolk friend... Raisu could not have let them continue on to the city alone. Had they known what they were getting themselves into. Probably. But did they really think it through? Probably not. What had they done since they parted ways not too long ago? Raisu shrugged. Perhaps they would meet again one day, when the streets weren't running red and filled with smoke. At least Raisu had survived, as fate would have it.
And as he walked from the South Capitol, his mind eventually settled in on a rather interesting thing: a large ki signature sitting still. Near the old market area, or what was left of it. Raisu's mind turned towards his time as a child in the South Capitol: his mother had, on occasion, taken him to the market. Well, Raisu thought, he might as well go check.
So he did, eventually coming to the market. Surprisingly, even in times like these, people were still peddling their goods. In this case: a man who sold apples. Was he the one with the ki signature? No, Raisu decided as he focused. It was coming from inside the truck. At least it wasn't an invader, at least not likely. But still, did the apple peddler fully realize what was happening.
"Uh," he began, "I don't think you guys are safe here."

"So this is a human market, huh? Not gonna lie... kinda crappy."
Vivi noted out loud even though such thoughts should have been kept to herself, often times she would say thing aloud without even knowing it which led to high speed purists and explosions.
Earth had become known to her as a strange place filled with just as strange people, not to mention many parts of it looked as though no one ever thought to bother cleaning up for guests, how rude. She shrugged gently with her eyes glancing around the filled streets, the place was broken down and looked as though one small cut would drop a person here in seconds but people still flocked about for their daily shopping. Having only been on the Earth for a few days so far Vivi had no idea that the world didn't usually look like this, for the most part it was a vibrant world with many amazing sites to see and not a worn down, shattered landscape filled with suffering. Vivi didn't mind much though, her care free nature allowing her to be joyful in pretty much any situation as evident by the cheerful smile that parted her lips.
Skipping slightly from side to side she made her way down the cracked street, her eyes darting every which way for something of interest which generally ended up with her stealing it, her fingers just couldn't help themselves once they found something they liked, shiny stuff mostly, or food. Slipping through the crowds of people Vivi's began to do what she did best, pick pocketing; having so many years of experience under her belt it had become second nature like an involuntary action. Often at time Vivi wouldn't even notice when her hand slipped into another pocket until she found herself with a new wallet in her grip, it wasn't as though she minded, it was a way of life for her and had always been so. Life on the streets had been hard with most looking out only for themselves stealing had just been a means to survive but after doing it for so long Vivi couldn't see herself in a life where she wasn't stealing to make a living.
Hopping away from the most recent group Vivi's eyes fell down to her closed hands, opening them up with building excitement her reward was shown before her in the form of a few earthen coins, a old pocket watch and a pack of chewing gum; Vivi squealed slight at the site of the gum. Ripping open the package and unwrapping a single stick she shoved it into her mouth with greed letting its sweet flavor run over her tongue. The gains were small practicality useless but every scrap helped her in getting around this world without dying from starvation. Slipping the rest of her loot into one of the shallow pockets of her shorts Vivi went skipping along happily once more.
It was then that Vivi's eyes fell upon a small truck where a few stands had been set up, upon one of the tables were apples, apples everywhere! Even with the mouth watering gum already in her mouth she could feel a line of drool being to drip down the side of her face. Always having a weakness for fruit Vivi knew she couldn't resist the temptation as it was basically calling out to her. "Steal me, Steal me.", she heard in her head as the apples begged for Vivi to take them away.
"Apples... Apples...."
Vivi muttered softly almost as if she was caught in a trance towards the small juicy fruits.
"Must have....apples...."
Scurrying across streets Vivi paused behind the side of a building, her glance locking onto the owner who was busy helping customers that passed by.
There were plenty of people watching, Vivi knew but it wasn't as though she hadn't done this before. It would be a simple pass by, a snatch and then she would be off with one of the tasty snacks, off to find more people to steal from. Coming out from the buildings shadow Vivi passed between people with ease, like a snake slithering through the tall grasses of a plain until she was but a few feet away from the lot of them all. It was just at that moment another chose to call out to the lot of them, a young man, hard to say how old he was but it was his words that caused a distraction, one of which Vivi was glad to have. Walking by smoothly Vivi paid little attention to the stand or any of those that were there, as if her business was else where as with her attention but in reality it was the gently moment of her furry tail which jumped into action. Walking pass the stand her tail moved ever so slightly as to bump one of the apples from the edge of the table, rolling from the table it landed in the grasp of her tail until the thick fibers covered the fruit up from any prying eyes.
Taking stride Vivi walked pass, with her tail curling around to her front side it unwrapped to reveal the small red fruit which she had taken. Smiling softly Vivi picked it up in her hands and brought it to her mouth followed by a loud crunch.
"Mmm... I do love a good apple. Probably should have taken the gum out first.... oh well!"
Vivi purred softly as her cheeks blushed a light red from joy.
"All the better when they're free."
She purred once again and took another bite, her tail wagging from side to side with joy.

Cocking a single eye open from his nap, the old Saiyan grunted in annoyance at the newcomer bothering to wake him up. Maybe it was a sign, Serena did say he shouldn't sleep right before a battle. Eh, she also said never to eat before one. And that always works out fine for me, Valliere thought to himself. The fighter didn't sense Ki himself, he had a scouter for that; old model it may be, it still got the job done. Plus, it didn't look like the new ones the Empire was using. He already had been shot at a few times from mistaken people glancing at his poor tail. Even as he remembered the last time someone grabbed it; the appendage twitched unhappily. "Aye mate I know, I know. Saiyan Empire coming in, lots o' 'splosions, death and blood. Doom and dismay." A hand waved in a nonchalant manner, cigar rolling to the corner of his mouth as eyes looked down at the hybrid. "But we ain't got much cash in me town. Orchard brings in Zenni. Zenni brings the town alive." Lucia was a small little village really. Nestled right in the mountains away from big routes or trade hubs. Nothing but a bunch of aliens that'd escaped a slave ship. Hence why their Sheriff was a Saiyan. Heck, even the orchard peddler looked a little....out of place. He hopped down with a grunt. Obviously it /was/ his power level that he'd been sensing. Tail swaying before tucking itself under the red sash at Val's waist. Eyes narrowed as he looked over the newcomers shoulder, seeing a fuzzy appendage tug one of his little amigo's hard grown goods. A scowl replaced his jovial features, a free hand scritching his beard. "Jamie!" "Yes?" "Pack up. The fighting's gotten close. And somebody likes free fruit." The albino wasted no time in obeying the sheriff-like man, who set a friendly hand on Raisu's shoulder. "Thank ye for the heads up mate. Come up North if ya need a place to crash. If you'll excuse me." Arms tensed, and aura flared around the fighter like a fireplace stoked with fresh logs. Hooking the old scouter over his ear and letting it spring to life. Zooming in over every body in the crowd, dinging as each was analyzed and passed on. Until.... Val didn't exactly act sneaky, to be fair. His race wasn't well known, or designed, for such acts. The mere action of taking off sent papers flying over the marketplace. Almost toppling a few stalls over as he landed; skidding on worn boots. Well, at least he towered over the little thing. And her power level was nothing to worry about. The big man had little qualms on a good rumble; but she looked like a little girl. A stern talking to and he'd let her go with a warning. Shouldn't let kids get away with that sort of business, only bred more trouble later on. Look at his entire race, a few firm hands and this entire 'Empire' probably wouldn't exist. He looked down at her with dark eyes, somehow his smoldering tobacco stick still clinging in the corner of thin, scarred lips. The old, battered hat shading his features menacingly. Leaning down slowly, muscles and bones cracking and popping threateningly before leveling his gaze with the odd girl.

A man appeared from the truck, a larger man than Raisu. So, he had been the source of the ki signature he felt. Raisu decided he certainly looked the part. There was a certain aura about him, besides the ki, one that gave off a grizzled air of confidence.
He certainly seemed well adjusted to the Saiyan Empire's way of doing things. Maybe because the man was a Saiyan himself. Raisu's eyes narrowed when he saw it, surprised. A Saiyan was the last thing he expected, but it took all kinds, he supposed. Unfazed, the Saiyan hopped from the truck and spoke to Raisu. Something was said about a town up north and a place to crash. Perhaps Raisu would take the man up on that after this was all over. He still has a whole lot of world left to see.
And then the man announced they were leaving. The fighting was indeed close. Too close for comfort. But the man seemed to be worried about a thief. Slowly, a presence made it self known in his mind: another ki signature.
In a flash, the man flew into the air, aura burning. He stayed there for a few moments, looking for something. And it seemed he found it. He descended, heading into the crowd. Curiosity killed the cat, but Raisu found himself scratching his head in confusion. He'd follow, making his way through a now stunned group, pardoning himself when he had to push folks aside.
Eventually, he came to the Saiyan. And the Saiyan had seemed to find his mark: a girl, maybe his age or at least around there. Pretty, in a wild sort of way, Raisu briefly thought.
Raisu came up behind the Saiyan and spoke, "Uh, what's going on?"

The prefect movement, the smallest twitch of her tail muscles, she had done it time and time before and never once had it failed Vivi to earn the just reward of a free meal. The tail was like another arm at least in the aspect that she could use it for many things, even making it easier for her to every day tasks; to most it would seem nothing more than a furry extension that prodded from her lower back but it was so much more than that to her. While it would never service her in the ways of combat as she so often saw with other races that had multiple limbs she had became reliant on the fuzzy attachment for more than just aiding in her balance; cooking, holding food, and cleaning if she had ever bothered to do so. It was constant work to reach the level of dexterity which she had achieved with the third limb, having to work the almost foreign muscles in her backside, the work had paid off well, even now she knew the stringy muscles could lift a few pounds easily enough, plus her furry little companion was a great pillow for long cold nights under the starry skies.
Now happily trotting away from the scene of the crime, her tail whipping back and forth happily from the odd sweet mixture of apple and chewing gum she hardly paid any attention to what went on around her, even less so to those around her, thinking her swift and stubble movements had gone unnoticed by wandering eyes Viv felt her defenses down. She was still young, young enough to be barely considered an adult, less so with her free, almost child like mind set still seeing wonderment in the world and all the joys that were brought with the sun once again rising, it was this youth, however freeing it might be that often lead to her being over confidante in her actions as proof of the mysterious man racing towards her unnoticed.
Vivi hadn't so much as seen the man as heard him roaring towards her, his rapid movement creating a surge of air around the area, even if she had been a good dozen yards away when he leapt into action her sensitive ears picked up on the sudden noise that was a part from the rest of the background sounds. It was unlike the shuffling foot steps or low, muffling voices of those which walked by but a suction of air, its pull causing the smallest fibers in her tail to wiggle towards the unknown source. While once Vivi had been happily chewing away at what was left of the apple she paused in her gait, those furry ears atop her head trying to fixate on the ever growing sound till the answer was standing right before her, his grim, aged face staring straight into hers.
Eyes growing wide from the man's sudden appearance Vivi frozen like a deer caught in headlights of a car, everything from her slightest movements of her chewing to the gentle rise of her chest ceased at his arrival. Tail sticking out far behind her backside in a frayed, erect position it was clear to the man and all of those that watched the growing scene that he had startled her very well. Leaning in close to Vivi's face the thick plume from his cigar edge from the corner of his lip drew dabs of tears in her eyes as they still fixated on the ever closing in man. He spoke, softly yet with question in his voice and what Vivi had been doing yet his question fell on deaf ears.
It was a light breeze that blew across the market area that finally revealed that while Vivi was still standing before the towering, shadowy form of the man, the fright she had sustained not seconds before had rendered her unconscious which was evident as slowly, like a stiff board of wood she fell backwards onto the rough street, even rocking back and forth upon her tail till rolling towards one side, her eyes still wide with shock.
"Eep...."
The small mutter left Vivi's lips as she laid their like a log as the impact of the fall had partially snapped her from her trance like state of being.
Vivi had never seen a person move at such speeds as they man had just displayed, it was incredible! She had barley even heard him move mere fractions of a second before he sprung before her as he had, Vivi believed though that his amazing speed went beyond physical means, most would not have even notice her thief, her movement having been so gentle almost an unbound twitch of her body.
"Owie...."
She spoke softly with a pain filled voice.
Eventually Vivi's body began to reawaken with her limbs releasing their defensive lock up, it was a terrible defensive trait as often whenever Vivi became frightened she would freeze in whatever position she had been, which in turn left her defenseless. Now laying on the ground Vivi was slow to get up, placing an open palm on the ground she pushed herself till she sat on her bottom, her legs spread out in front of her. Rubbing the back of her head gently she moaned against the throbbing feeling that was quick to rise from the heavy impact of the ground.
"That hurt."
Vivi sniffled through building blurry moisture in her eyes.
Taking notice of the shadowy form that over took her Vivi glanced up to once again see the grim face of the man standing over her. Not having the same sudden effect as first Vivi felt not shock from his face though it had been his fault that she had gotten hurt.
"That wasn't nice! Could have scared me to death!"
Vivi pouted gently as she crossed her arms one over the other, turning her head away from the man she glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
"Aren't you even going to help a lady up?"
Vivi spoke with rising question in her voice towards the weathered man, all the while her lips still stuck out, holding on to her pouting look.

The Captain himself had been a little....shocked, to say the least, when the lass tipped over like a statue in a tornado. Might have overdone it a bit there. He thought with a little bit of guilt scenting his mind. Next time I'll just grab her by the arm and hope the next thief doesn't suffer a heart attack. Am I really THAT scary? Broad arm lent down, hooking around the smaller aliens lap and heaving her up like she weighed nothing. Banded arms like braided steel wire flexing for a moment before she was back on her feet. "Well, my apologies Miss." The Saiyan nodded low, showing a sigh of respect; but none of submission. Fact was, she'd stolen from his friend. And she wouldn't get off the hook by acting all cute and lady like now. Gloved hands brushed over her, dusting the poor girl clean before finishing with a grunt of satisfaction. Plucking the cigar from his mouth, free digits wiping the corner of her eyes clean in quick; easy motions. Nothing he hadn't done before. As the Sheriff back home, he'd handled crying kids plenty of times.
"Now, unless yer about to try yer impersonation of a board again." A heavy hand set on her shoulder, cigar replaced where it belonged. Acrid smog leaking as he blew a trickle out the opposite end. "The apples ain't expensive Miss. If yer hungry, next time just ask. Jamie is pretty dayumn charitable to those hard on luck; especially in these times."
As if to highlight his words, another explosion rocked a few blocks away. The Orchard Truck rumbled past; giving the ex-raider a moment to snag another fruit by way of long arms and a steady reach. Eyes glanced between it and the slight little lass. Himself being built big and broad; he rarely went hungry by way of hunting or finding work. Still, there'd been some hungry nights when he first came to Earth. And she obviously wasn't some mutant human down on her luck. So, like it or not, Val would do his best to try and keep her safe. The apple was set in her hands, a sly smile coming across his scarred face. "But...I suppose now and then a few apples fall off the table. And anything on the ground is free game aye? Good thing you caught that one before it fell off the truck, somebody mighta slipped on it; sure Jamie won't miss two little fruit; savvy?"
The lesson had been taught, but his new hybrid friend was indeed right. The fighting was getting far too close for comfort. "You and me are the strongest ones here big guy. Buy the other folks time to make a clean getaway if worst comes to worst." The Saiyan let a breath out, before releasing it. Letting his power flare to life again, a sort of beacon for the invading army to seek him rather then the little life signs of fleeing humans. A hand was set on the new girls shoulder, gently but firmly guiding her behind him. "Go hop in the back of the truck. Tell Jamie that Val sent ya, he'll take you up to Lucia. Good little town that'll keep you from stealing no more."
And with that, Val set himself to buy some time if it came down to it.

So the girl had fallen. Raisu couldn't blame here, not really. It was a startling thing to have happen to you. It wasn't every day that a Saiyan descended from the sky like a speeding bullet. Even if there was a Saiyan every where you looked these days. Perhaps such a sight would become commonplace in time. Though he hoped not. Raisu preferred to be able to walk without a Saiyan dive bombing him like an angry bird.
And there was an odd kindness to the Saiyan. A sort of gentleness that went with the gruff parts of him. It was good to see, especially in these times. The world could use a few more good people like that. Raisu grinned, watching the two. Quite the sight, really. Like a lion and a kitten, almost.
But the Saiyan was right. The fighting was approaching. Raisu nodded, following the Saiyan's lead, letting his power flow to life, like some sort of firework. Though his weights dampened his power, it still shone through.
Raisu turned to the Saiyan, concern plain on his face.
"Do you need to go with them? I can probably handle myself here and buy you guys some time."
There he went again, putting others before himself. That would kill him one day, though he didn't know it yet.

It was easy enough to see that the mans well built body wasn't just for mere show, his bulky, well toned arm was more than enough to lift Vivi from the ground in a single pull he managed to lift her from the cracked and battered street which she had fallen onto not a minute ago. She was light, lighter than most people with her lithe shaped body, which had come from years of training though mostly in the aspect of running away; it would have been strange for him to know of the girls massive appetite with just how small framed she was, no matter what she ate the pounds never seemed to stack on her.
Still with a slight pout in her eyes Vivi did her best to hold that appearance, after all she had been caught in the act of thieving and often more times that not a sweet face could do wonders to get her off the hook, not all folded to the trick however.
"Yes... well, thank you."
Vivi noted in response to his apology with a small huff of air, it was clear enough she was still a bit agitated from having been knocked on her ass without so much as a punch thrown, more embarrassed than anything that she had been caught in the act of stealing however.
It seemed for the most part that her act was working, though his worn face was hard to read, like a water damaged book, the words were there but the ink was now smeared making it difficult to read the original message. Hand rising the man was quick to dust Vivi off from her impact with the grimy street below, she really hadn't taken much notice that her outfit was now covered in splotches of dirt here and there with her mind being much more fixated on trying to get out of the situation she found herself in. Taking a few swipes across her body with the back of his hand Vivi couldn't help but giggle softly through her ruse, even after years of trying to get over it Vivi was extremely ticklish which was proof by the poorly hidden snickers she tried to lock behind closed lips. With a deepened grunt of approve it appeared the man was done cleaning her up at least she thought. Going to open her mouth to speak once more she was greeted by the man's hands as they enclosed around her face before she had a chance to say anything, with gentle strokes against the corners of her eyes he cleared away the soft tears which had form. Vivi had not been expecting that, helping her up was one thing but to tend to her in such a manner was nurturing, something she had gone for quite some time without.
"Oh... thank you."
Vivi muttered softly; no longer did her outwards appearance pout, now she almost looked confused, put off by the unforeseen action.
The hand falling onto her shoulder had been enough to snap Vivi out of her confused stare, jerking at his quick touch Vivi quickly realized that whatever ploy she had been playing had been seen through easily like a light houses beam through the dead of night. She swallowed heavily trying to think of another way out of the situation she had gotten herself into but nothing came to mind; looks like she was going back to jail once more.
The panic was quick to leave Vivi's body as the man spoke, while at first she thought it was game over, the man spoke with a stern commanding tone which easily put Vivi in her place. Ear's falling to droop over the hem of her hat Vivi shook her head in understanding, and while she heard the lesson the man spoke it would only keep the girl's sticky hands at bay for the length of the day, once the sun rose again she would be back on the prowl for whatever was in hands reach.
The situation changed with the nearby explosion that caught Vivi off guard, letting out a high pitched squeak she ducked and leaned in towards the man, her head pressing against his chest as if he was her protective shield, with his large muscles it wasn't to far off from the truth. Having just arrived to the small blue world Vivi was completely unaware of what was happening on the planet, at first she thought the placed looked like a crap hole because it was but now she was beginning to think there was more behind it.
With the explosion dying off Vivi shivered slightly as she pulled away from the gruff man, being as close as she was this time she truly got a good look of his face. He was a deal older than her, not enough to be her father but not young enough to a sibling, his face while worn here and there gave a grim appearance yet also tough, as if others would think twice before making a move towards him. His eyes were caring, at least towards her, but at the same time she could see the years in his eyes, all he had done and seen in the past showed in them. Shaking her head softly Vivi backed away from the man, rubbing the back of her neck she coughed gently.
"Sorry, about that."
She coughed more again with a shy smile on her face till the rocketing truck came rolling passed them on the street, it was at that moment the man reached out with a blur of his arm towards the vehicle. Vivi had hardly seen the movement, had see not been looking at him at just that second she would have missed it but there it was, a lone, shinning apple in his hand.
"Whoa."
Vivi was caught by surprise from the man's movement but unlike the time before she didn't freeze up; it was a state of awe at his ability.
Placing the apple in her hands Vivi was confused, first she watched the small fruit then her eyes turned towards the mans, the confusion still thick in them. He had caught her, lectured her and now he was giving her a treat, the same thing she had stolen not long ago. Explaining the reasoning behind it Vivi's eyes grew wide for a second until a small sly grin appeared over her face; it was at that second she knew, she liked him.
"...Hmmm....You... You... I like you."
Vivi smiled showing off her white, rather sharp teeth.
The man turned his attention towards another, one of which Vivi hadn't taken much notice of till this point. He was well built but no where as gruff as the other man; the apple man she came to think of him as. The new man wasn't nearly as roguh as apple man, he was a pretty boy Vivi decided, much younger and probably closer to Vivi own age. They spoke back and forth leaving Vivi with a questionable look on her face at what they were talking about; the explosions must have something to do with it she deiced but was still left mostly in the dark of it all. Before Vivi could raise any question on the matter however it was apple man that spoke to her, warning her it be best if she left these parts on the truck. Vivi went to protest but as she did she saw the look in his eyes which caused her to clamp her mouth shut, it didn't matter what she was going to say he wasn't letting her stay around.
Reaching the truck Vivi stopped for a moment, the man's force pressing against her arm in the suddenness of it all. Turning around she looked up at the man for a second till she stepped on her toe to raise her up more to his height.
"Thank you."
She spoke softly before giving his a light kiss on the cheek which left behind a mark of the lipstick she had been wearing, just as soon as it had begun Vivi hopped backwards, landing in the back of the truck with a light tap she giggled softly with blushed cheeks.
"Bye bye apple man!"
She waved towards the gruff man with a quick shave of her arm.
"Good bye pretty boy!"
Vivi waved once more but this time towards the second of the two men.
And with that the truck started up once more and rolled its way on down the street.
"Come see me in Lucia! I want more apples!"
Vivi grinned with raised arms as the truck rounded the corner and she was gone. WC:1453

The Sheriff saluted his leaving ward with two fingers, tracing the brim of his hat before flicking his wrist. Seeing her off before flashing a grin as his smaller new friend. "C'mon mate, I know yer hidin' some power. But I can't let you handle what's comin' on yer lonesome." Knuckles cracked as fists were formed. Wolfish grin splitting his face at the prospect of fresh combat. Reformed Saiyan or not, the promise of a good fight got his blood pumping. Body swaying as battle stance was set; nothing learned from a school or master. But raw experience on the battlefield. Old Val had taken out someone twice his Power Level once just from the countless warzones he'd survived giving him the right set of skills.
Maybe he jinxed them when thinking about Saibamen, because that's exactly was was coming towards him and his partner. Energy flaring as signatures registered on his scouter. Sparking to life, zooming in on each of the approaching squad before swapping back to its regular sight picture. Triangles keeping track of the new fighters. A rough smack to Raisu's shoulder jolting him to look over at the green aliens. "See! A good day for a fight!" He flared his aura, before taking off for the approaching saibamen. "C'mon Raisu, do you wanna live forever?" Power flared from both his arms, pooling down into orbs along his palms. Stopping like a screeching car; Val planted both the orbs together. Sending a beam of bright blue death out towards the incoming foes. "Grim Howitzer..." He grunted under his breath, twisting his shoulders. Muscles burning before he tensed fists in. Making the ball explode in a shower of death and green limbs. It'd been a long time since he'd really let go, and his Saiyan blood was showing. Making him lust for more combat to the point of self endangerment. Chest heaved as adrenaline spiked, but his time for self pity was cut short as the fight came to blows. Saiyan limbs met Saiba ones, blows exchanged back and forth in rapid succession as he held the street. Keeping the fleeing people some time.
"If yer not too busy lil' brother, could use that back up now!"

Well, it seemed the two would be fighting side by side. Part of Raisu found himself quite curious, despite the danger. What could the old man do? It always was fun to see what others could do. Particularly an old Saiyan warrior. Raisu smirked, his own Saiyan blood answering the call to battle.
And then came a slap to his shoulder, bringing him to attention. Little green men were charging them. Raisu squinted at them, and then it hit him: he'd seen this kind of alien before, but the one he'd met had been much friendlier and dressed in a funny little dogi. These ones, on the other hand, were out for blood.
The older Saiyan struck first, throwing his ki and body into the approaching green horde. It was certainly a sight to see. The old Saiyan knew his way around a battlefield, that was for sure. But Raisu himself hadn't been born yesterday.
He ran into the group, intent on protecting the civilians left. Many tiny ki signatures brushed against Raisu's mind. They weren't particularly strong, but maybe that was the point. Raisu's limbs were a flurry, barely visible as he struck at any of the green ones within range. The occasional ki blast escaped his palm, but he was being conservative on that end: one could never know when Raisu might need a sudden Starlight Beam.
He fought alongside the Saiyan and eventually turned his head to speak during a tiny moment if reprieve.
"You do this a lot?"

Vivi sat lazily in the bed of the small truck her back resting against the worn siding, the truck itself was barreling down the road with considerable speed trying to make head away against whatever coming force had been making its way towards the market upon their departure. Arm tossed causally over the edge of the trucks bed it hung loosely against the occasional tingles of wind that caused it to flutter about gently unlike her hair which was caught in a tempest of circling winds that caused the long purple strands to widely dance around her face, needless to say visibility was currently an issue though it bothered Vivi little. Eyes staring away from the truck at the path they had come from she found herself in an unusually calm state of thought, she had been pushed off so easily with little resistance on her behalf, and against all of it she still had no idea of what was happening.
Vivi had only known of the world for a few days, her happy go lucky mentality hadn't taken much notice the happenings on the world, instead keeping her aloft with mindless actives and whatever sweets came her way. Now staring at the ruined country side and the random streaks that fell across the sky she began to wonder if there was more going on here that she had clearly missed before... the scene almost felt like the eve of war, if not war itself. Vivi was... skilled enough when it came to combat, she knew techniques and how to deal a punch as well to receive one but never before had she taken place in a war herself; she wasn't sure if that was lucky of her or a misfortune. Old salty, her mentor and old friend spoke stories to her of war, it was a harsh, hellish place where many of his friends died but the tales he spun where alive with hero's and valiant battles that took place in burning mountains and high skyscrapers across a destroyed city, the tales had been so romanticized, fantasizing and over glorifying she knew but to actually partake in one first hand would have been something she would never forget.
Vivi whimpered softly thinking of her old friend, it seemed like just yesterday they shared their stories between one another. Vivi's tales had always been on the duller side compared to her old friend, mostly robbing people blind or running away from a humorous situations while his were spectacular stories of raids on royal ships, battle stations and even a karaoke bar believe it or not. It brought a warm smile to her lips to think of him once more, the times she spent with him would never be forgotten, but there was one in particular that her mind flashed back to with the coming storm she could feel in the air.
He had taken her to a far off planet on the fringe on the galactic disc, a world like any other yet misfortune had fallen upon its people many, many years before either of them took first breath. The story went that a group of scientists had constructed two AI's, both with competitive levels of intelligence that were set to try and discover the other weakness, exploit it and defeat the other. At first the tests were little to look at with minimal results but the AI were quick to learn, evolving in their tactics to best the other till their ordinary simple maneuvers became full on war fare with tactics that would put battle masters to shame. With renewed interested in the project it was backed up with financial support to see what the AI's could do and what could possibility be learned from their ways of thinking.
All was well for some time, the two computers facing off against the other in cyberspace but on one day it all changed. The AI's learned to take physical form, using any device connected to a web interface they could control it, allowing the two warring sides access to more troops but now threatening the whole world together. With each loss, each victory, the two sides learned and adapted, becoming smarter and stronger till the breaking point. Their creators having been caught in the cross fire between the two warring machines stood little chance as their planet had been a lit with the flames of combat in an never ending war. Over time the AI went to stretch their war beyond just the lonely planet to reach new sources of materials for their armies as the planet had been stripped of its natural resources at this point. Seeking to protect the galaxy from this seemingly unstoppable force of machines a small group of unified races from across the galaxy deployed a massive shield around the planet to stop the AI's from unleashing their war to the stars, of course it was only but a bandage. In time the AI's would learn to escape and then chaos would release onto the rest of the universe but for the time being the world had become something of a tourist attraction, with people far and wide coming to see a long fought war without directly being caught in its cross fire.
Old Salty had taken Vivi there once, above the ruined world on a small orbiting platform to see the machines below as they tore into one another, their original purpose still driving their cause even after a thousand years of killing. She watched them with awe and fear, it could be felt in the air like a thick fog, even now as she sat in the back of the rolling truck Vivi could feel that same hair quivering sense again.
Vivi wasn't one to stay put, even one to follow the commands of others, her free will and happy nature was just to much to keep her in one place for long enough. Having never really deciding to keep to the back of the truck, Vivi with one light jump soared from the vehicle as she touched down some thirty meters from where it had been. Taking no notice of the lack of weight from Vivi leaving the truck it continued to peddle away from her, growing smaller and smaller as it faded into the distance. Dusting herself off gently her eyes turned back towards where she had met the two men, already a series of explosions could be seen ranging cross the country side in that general direction.
There was both awe and caution in her eyes as she watched from a far on a old dirt road which led away from the major cities. She wouldn't stay like this for long however, Vivi wanted to see it with her eyes up close. She held nothing of the fainest idea of why, or who was fighting but Vivi didn't care all to much but she did wander if Apple man or Pretty boy where some of those that had been caught up in all of it. She had only just met Apple man and even if she had tired to steal from one of his friends she liked him, there was a gruff kindness to him. Vivi wasn't the greatest of combatants but if the man was in danger she wouldn't mind coming to his aid, after all, he did give her a free apple, the one she began to munch on as she made her way towards the growing lights over the market.

"We're Saiyans!" The Captain replied, sidestepping a blow and grabbing onto the offending limb. Swinging it up and sharply back down across a knee; the sound of cracking bones echoing between alien screeches. "Good or bad, heroes or villains, fighting is what we're made for lad! Strength and Power levels are good, but a good heart will see ya take something on ten times yer power!" The broad raider swung the broken body, using it like a club to swat the next xeno life form across the marketplace; where a Saibaman shaped hole formed through brick wall. Showing clay and debris across the street. Val winched in mock sympathy, dropping the body with a careless toss. "And we got folks counting on us, show 'em that not all of us fuzzy monkey tails are bad, eh?" His humor was infectious, and mirth unending. Energy pulsing in time with his attacks and defense. The old Saiyan might have some aches and pains when he woke up too early, but here in the thick of a battle ground; he remembered countless similar situations against far more daunting odds. Heck, in the past month he'd doubled his power level. The drive to protect indeed one more rewarding then for self gain in of itself. His punches hit just a bit harder, his Ki blasts a little larger. Swaying in the tempo of battle, losing himself in the way only a Saiyan Warrior could. Happy to have a good comrade to fight alongside again. It'd been far too long since he'd last had a worthy war; and stopping the Empire from destroying his home was more then he could have hoped for. This will be my redemption he thought and if I have to die for it, so be it. I'm sure Hell has a nice room waiting for me.
The moment of rest was welcome, muscles heaving and chest taking in air hard for a moment before his heart settled. A broad grin crossing weather beaten face. Spitting the stub of his cigar out; the man's furry appendage lifted a new one to thin lips. Lighting it with a burst of a Ki Blast. The sound of leaf smoldering much more peaceful then the screaming of aliens a moment ago. The smell of dried plant more welcome then that of purple blood splashed across the marketplace. A thick tendril of smoke was pushed out the opposite corner of his lips, letting him enjoy the moment. "Yer awfully younger then me lad. But I can tell yer stronger then me. Might catch up though, so don't get cocky." He flashed another wain smile, showing he was playing. Power was the last thing Val wanted, but he did need it. For himself, and his family way up north. The next wave was coming, and the Saiyan re-ignited his power. Just as strong as ever with little signs of giving up. "Full moon out tonight little brother, let's try and last until it comes out and show 'em what it means to mess with real Warriors!" www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Exep5sjl0Q

True, they were Saiyans, though Raisu was only half of one himself. The universe's premier warrior race, or so they claimed to be. It certainly seemed to be that way. No other people rose up to claim such a title. But there was a deeper point to what he said: it was true. Regardless of how they stood or where they stood, no matter how they'd grown or lived, they had some natural power. But what to do with it? If you stood on the side of the Solar Saiyan Empire, the answer was plain to see: conquer, destroy, burn. All the nasty things that Saiyans had come to be associated with. But if you were on the other side of the coin, someone who denied their warlord blood? Well, what could you do but hope your own mind would not betray you when the bloodlust rose.
There was a comfort to the man's words as well. A good heart? Raisu at least tried to have that. Oh, did the halfbreed try. But there was a fear in him. Of what lied deep in his soul, whatever curse and blessing his heritage had given him. But he could make a choice. All men were free to choose, even if they didn't think they were. And this is what he chose. Wading knee deep in aliens in who wanted to kill him. But here lied the difference: Raisu was a protector, or at least he tried to be. How could he not be? The young halfblood found himself fighting in the shadow of his home, the streets he'd grown up on. Even through the destruction, bits of his past shone on through. And the older Saiyan was right: he had a duty, to be a credit to his kind.
And so came a moment of peace among the battle, a break between waves. Raisu's breathing was deep, but not ragged. He still had fight in him, even if his weights pulled at his arms and legs. The man spoke, lighting a cigar as he went. Just how much older was the man than he? And was Raisu really that much stronger? Raisu reached out with his mind, trying to gauge the man's aura once again. It burned bright, and it was gruff like it's originator, but he did have a point: Raisu did outstrip, at least when he went without the weights. Though, as the man said, it wasn't always the power. A lot of the times, it was the heart behind it.
The next wave was coming for them. Taking the now familiar low stance, he'd be ready when they came. And then the Saiyan spoke, A full moon tonight? Was it really? His heart skipped a beat. All his life, he'd been warned not to look at the full moon. He'd never known why, but he had an idea why now. He'd seen the raging giant apes. Was that the curse of the full moon?
"You got it! I'll give it my all! You just try and keep up!"
He shot the older Saiyan a grin. Part of him was enjoying this, despite what was on the line. Perhaps you just could not deny all the parts of your nature.

Quick intakes of air came from Vivi's stilted nostrils in deep waves, having back tracked across uneven, mostly hilly lands from where she had escaped from the truck she began to wish she had gotten off earlier rather than waiting for as long as she had. Lacking any ability such a flight Vivi always had to rely on the swiftness and endurance of her legs to get around, flight had always been inciting for the young girl yet she had never got around to mastering such a feat let alone trying. The girl while brave in most situations had an daunting fear of heights, ironic enough that she often enough would land a shuttle from orbit, it was all the difference of being in a hard plated vehicle than herself being exposed to the skies around her. The fear was something she had tried desperately to over come in the years of her life, with no luck however the fear was still driven deep into her consciousness and whatever poor sucker that deemed themselves worthy to aid her in such attempts usually ending up with various scratch marks from Vivi's iron grip upon their body. Even with raised breathing Vivi was happy enough to hop across the landscape, it was better than having a heart attack in the air any day.
Off towards the distance her eyes had locked to, the point where she had last seen the two men before departing upon the old rusted truck. Never one to stay back and miss all the commotion the distant between herself and the point of origin was closing rapidly, with each and every stride dust kicked high into the air with her over zealous movements, filled with excitement at what she might see Vivi couldn't help herself but push hard against the Earth feeling as though her powerful legs might push the planet out of orbit with the way she ran.
It was the oddest thing she thought to herself as lights flashed across the sky, this time it wasn't just the hailing streaks of white that filled the burning sky but the lights where different, not coming from the sky but the ground itself. Vivi had never seen energy attacks before, at least not the way the two men when carrying on about them, for the most part she had only ever been exposed to energy weapons that used batteries to generate wide arches of fire power, nothing like what she was seeing now. Some might have feared the sight, even run away from it but not Vivi, her eyes only grew wider with anticipation of what it would have looked like up close.
Rounding the corner from which the truck had turned down in the first place Vivi was welcome to first sights of war she had ever laid her eyes on up close; it was invigorating. Vivi took no pleasure out of people fighting with blood lust in their intentions but she couldn't help but marvel at the sight she saw before her; the invading forces pitted against the two mighty warriors as they stood side by side in the amber flames of the a lit sky in the background. The sight was enough to fill a person's heart with vigor towards whatever cause they fought for, even Vivi could feel her heart beat a little stronger with misting eyes from the sight alone, she didn't cry, but she was on the verge of doing so.
"Wow...."
It was a special kind of beauty from the point of view where she watched from, a romanticized version like the stories her friend told her and she could see why they old man loved a good war; still, Vivi knew war wasn't fun and games, it was brutal, bloody and often more time than not it was long lasting and filled with countless deaths. For the moment though she enjoyed the scene, just for that few seconds, until the first of the strange green men came raining down upon her from the Apple man's vigorous swing using the batter, broken body of another like a bat sending the alien cascading down and through a now collapsing building.
Vivi couldn't help but giggle gently at the way the man fought others, it was practical yet innovated, more of on a whim that anything planned in per-combat, it was the way Vivi fought; always having a short term memory for things of importance details, elongated plans always went through one ear and out the other. With everything she saw of the man Vivi grew to like him all the more, perhaps it was because she could relate to him, or his wisdom in the words he spoke or maybe it was because he reminded her so much of Old salty. The two men where very similar, kind yet assertive enough for when push came to shove they weren't afraid to bite back; it had always been that kindness and a grim, realistic sense of humor she grew to love.
Showering down upon her form came the debris in the impact of the green man against the falling building, not wanting to be crushed or more for the matter have to shower again that day Vivi hopped off to one side in the abandoned remains of another structure, already this one wasn't fairing much better than the one that had just collapsed with its busted windows and chucks of its structure missing but its foundation was still strong, strong enough to support against the mild explosions and flung bodies across the area. Diving inside with a roll Vivi dropped through the buildings entrance in a prone position, her waist high above her while her head hung low, it was a predator position allowing her a moments notice to strike if need be, after all this was a battle zone and having little idea of what was going on she had to be ready for anything. Eyes glancing around the mostly barren room they fell upon the grunting form of one of the green men, limbs hanging at strange angle Vivi knew off the bat he was no threat with such broken limbs.
Taking notice of her the little green man made a moving gesture towards her causing Vivi to scuttle backwards in anticipation but as the green man wailed out in pain he collapsed backwards against the wall which had been supporting his weight. Just as Vivi had though, he was in no condition to flight let alone move from where he rested, shrugging him off slightly Vivi cocked her head off towards one side to get a better look at him in the dim lighting of the room. He was a strange being, like a miniature green human with sharp talon at the end of his fingers, more like a hawk or a raptor than a loin. He stature was short, even shorter than Vivi's own which caused her to chuckle lightly, hardly anyone she came across would ever have to look up towards her, it was a nice chance of pace however. Other than looking than a small human painted green he wasn't all the interesting as Vivi had first come to think but after all he was closing in on deaths door step; he did remind her a bit of Yoda though.
"I'm... going to call you Yoda."
Vivi nodded with a confirming shake of her head as if agreeing with herself for her own benefit.
The green man groaned with pain, wherever it was an actual response or him simply crying out she couldn't decide but in the end she just shrugged once more.
"Ok, Yoda it is!"
Vivi chirped happily as she came to sit next to the little green man.
Plopping down on the ground next to him Vivi looked out towards the far wall or at least what remained of it as a large portion of it had mysteriously vanished sometime before she had arrived, probably from the single alien being smashed through its wall by Apple man.
"You sure know hot to make an entrance. Usually I end up coming out of cakes."
Vivi joked lightly with a small laugh towards Yoda but once again all he managed was a soft whimper.
"Eh the rates vary but about one hundred Zeni up front."
Vivi spoke as if answering a question that had never existed from Yoda leaving him to grunt once more.
"Ha! Well that costs extra."
Vivi snickered through a cuffed hand over her mouth.
Turning her eyes back towards the open hole in the wall she looked around for Apple man and Pretty boy. After having dove into the crumbling building she had lost track of them, getting side tracked with Yoda had put her off as well leaving her eyes roaming to search of for the two of them.
"There they are!"
Vivi's voice rose casing Yoda to mutter with annoyance though he didn't make much of a show of it.
Vivi would have liked to get closer but she didn't want to leave Yoda behind like that, she like the funny little green man, he told the best jokes. She knew the alien was dying though, and she couldn't help but think, if she were dying too she would want someone there at her side for dying alone was what she feared the most.
"No, it's ok Yoda. I'll stay with you a little while longer. Just rest."
The words were soft on the alien's ears which helped to ease him back against the wall, he knew it was over for him.
It was at that moment that Yoda felt a small clasp onto his claws hand that caused him to open his eyes weakly towards the strange being that saw to torment him in his final minutes of life. Her hand was upon his own, he saw from from the corner of his eye as he looked into the warming smile of the furry eared creature. The alien had never felt any kindness towards him let alone his species, it was... nice... if only such kindness could have been given before...
And then he was gone, leaving Vivi to hold the creatures hand for a while longer as she watched the two men out across the field.
