”Uuugh...” Tania whined under her breath as she sat on the metal floor, twiddled her thumbs, and wriggled her toes in her shoes. It had been exactly five hours, thirty two minutes, and thirteen seconds since she had gotten herself locked in the trailer of the large truck that had decided to take off while she was aboard during her game of hide and seek. It was a long time to sit there in that dark enclosed space. The small girl wasn’t afraid of the dark or anything. She could actually see just fine thanks to her optical sensors supplying her with night vision. It still would have been nice if there had been an electrical outlet so that she could have recharged herself with and went into her hibernation mode during the trip though. It just went to show that as much as she may have looked like a human child, she was still very much an android.
As if the time alone wasn’t enough for the girl to tell that they had travelled a long way from the sleepy town it had been parked in when she first found it, there was another big detail that tipped her off. Around the four hour and thirty minute mark, she could feel the truck come to a brief stop. They eventually started moving again. However, they weren’t rolling anymore and the engine stayed dead. The truck was floating! The town she was visiting wasn’t anywhere near the ocean. Man, she wanted to see what was going on out there...
After a while cruising atop whatever body of water they had come to, the truck started to vibrate as the engine turned on again. Though, their progress was a lot slower than it used to be. Were they getting close to their destination? Apparently so, because the truck rolled to a halt shortly after being started before the engine was cut yet again. The cab doors were open and shut as Tania began to pick up voices coming from outside. ”Alright. Let’s go get this processed so the boys can start unloading. I need a nap after that...” She heard one of them groan, a pair of inaudible mumbled accompanying it. And then came that magic sound... As they walked away, a loud click came from the trailer door. She was free!
Tania hurriedly scampered over to it and pushed it open just enough for her tiny frame to squeeze through. She hadn’t really known what she’d see on the other side of the doors as her synthetic blue eyes adjusted themselves to the new level of fluorescent light that shone down from above, but it definitely wasn’t what she was met with. It was a big metal room that kind of looked like an unloading bay. The three man that had rode in the truck’s cab during the trip must have left just as she had slipped out of the trailer because the room was completely devoid of people. Strange looking machines line the far wall that she had never seen before that prominently displayed the same blue symbol that was on the side of the truck. Everything looked clean, polished, and absolutely nothing like the dusty little town she had been picked up from. Speaking of the town, there was a single thought that ran through her mind as she took several curious steps towards the center of the strange room. She hadn’t been found yet. Was she still technically playing hide and seek?

The unloading bay was silent except for the little girl android now occupying it. The men who had brought it had gone for a little break, and there was no security here. Why would there be? After previous incidents, security had been beefed up in other places in the facility. The unloading bay was the least of their concerns. When there weren't any deliveries, there wasn't too much valuables there. Then, she might hear something. A soft banging, seemingly coming from one of the walls. A closer inspection would actually pinpoint the source being the air vent on one of the walls. It seemed like something was in there, moving around, getting closer. Then, suddenly something seemed to bang on the grating, before finally knocking the cover away, the metal clanging on the ground loudly, at least in the silence it was loud. Then, a small form slipped out in a way that showed they were especially skilled at crawling through vents. Surprisingly enough, the form was that of a girl, with short blonde hair and dressed in some rather raggedy clothing. She seemed very out of place amongst the shiny equipment in the room. Charlene 24 let out a satisfied sigh as she stretched herself, glad to be free of the confines of the vent, and feeling rather proud of how she managed to slip away from her guards. She had decided of course to avoid the armory, not wanting to cause trouble for her father again, but she had heard that some new tech had just arrived. She hoped she could find stuff to help with her explosive art, especially since she was banned from using fireworks. However, the girl was surprised to see another small girl in the unloading bay. She had never seen another kid her before. Was she a child of one of the soldiers? Why was she here all alone? Her curiosity now piqued by this mystery girl, Charlene approached her. "Hey there," she said, trying to sound casual, "Sup? You new around here?"

Tania wasn’t sure if the game was still on, but why take a chance? For all she knew, Marco could have been following the truck and would come out at any second to find her. The small android had to find another hiding spot so she wouldn’t get called out. The truck was no good anymore. If he had followed it to get there, then that would be the first place he would look. So what else was open to her?
Eyes filled with childish curiosity and determination to win a game that didn’t even exist anymore carefully scanned the large room. There wasn’t really anything she could reach on her own, and she had already promised the other kids that she wouldn’t use her ability to fly. It was then that she heard several thuds coming from the wall to her left. ”Hmm?” Tania shuffled over to the source of the noise to see that there was a vent sticking out of it. That would have been a perfect hiding spot if it didn’t already sound like it was occupied.
Tania leaned in close as the thudding noises shifted into banging noises. Something was definitely in there. From how loud the sounds were getting, it was much larger than a mouse. Had one of the other kids followed her too? Maybe she could convince them to share their hiding spot since Tania had at least been the one to find the truck first. She would have to do something about the noise though. You had to be quiet when playing hide and seek. Otherwise it would be way too easy for whoever was ‘it’ to find you.
”Eep!” the small girl yelped in surprise as the grate covering the opening in the duct suddenly became dislodged and fell to the ground with a loud clatter. From the hole that was left in the wall from its wake, a young girl skillfully slipped out into the open. Huh, that was weird. She looked nothing like any of the other kids that had been playing with her. The new girl regarded her with curiosity. She gave a simple greeting and asked Tania if she was new around there. ”Umm, I think so. Where exactly is ‘here’?” the small girl asked. It was then that she got an idea. Just because the girl didn’t start out playing didn’t mean she wouldn’t want to join in. It wouldn’t be nice to not extend the invitation. ”Did you want to join in our game? Me and my friends are playing hide and seek.”

Ok, Charlene could rule out that this girl was a child of one of the soldiers here. She would have known where she was. Then where did she come from? Did she come in on the truck or something? "You are in Site A of the Blue Banner Army," she explained, "Home of the army's robotics research, and home to some really, really cool stuff." Stuff she really wanted to get her hands on, though right now this little girl seemed much more interesting. When she offered for her to join her game, a small smile spread across the blonde's face. She wasn't sure if the girl's friends were actually here, but it was nice to actually have someone her age around. "Sure thing. I know plenty of hiding places around here. Heck, I know there's going to be people looking for us right now." Her ears pricked when she heard a sound coming from one end of the loading bay. A service elevator on the far wall. Judging from the sound, it was on its way down, most likely to pick up the new tech. "Like those guys right there," she said, quickly hurrying to the ventilation shaft. She scrambled up into it, turning around to look at her. "Come on, this way! We can slip by them through here." she held her hand out to help the small girl up into the vent. -----^+^----- Porsalynne was fretting as she strode down the hall, flanked by two soldiers. She had heard that Charlene had disappeared and the android was determined to track her daughter down, especially without letting Cipher know. Her boyfriend had to deal with Charlene's escapades last time, she didn't want to trouble him with this. "Make sure to check all the entrances to the ventilation shafts," she instructed, "If she's anywhere, she's most likely in there." She had heard her daughter was a little bit of a tunnel rat, able to move quickly through the base's ventilation system. Thankfully, she hadn't heard any explosions yet, so that was some small relief. And so the base wide game of hide and seek was on. Charlene and her new little friend versus the entire Blue Banner Army.

So this place was called Site A of the Blue Banner Army? That sounded like a funny name. Tania had never heard of such a place, nor had she ever seen it on any map. Adventuring sure lead her to some strange places sometimes, even if she hadn’t meant to come here in the first place. Though, if this place really did have really, really cool stuff then she was glad to have stumbled across it.
Tania had never played hide and seek with grownups before. The new girl seemed to be having fun with it though. That kind of feeling was contagious, as Tania quickly found herself giddy at the idea of making the game she had joined in earlier that day more challenging. And hey, she had already successfully hid from the three men in the blue and white jumpsuits to get there. Maybe she had a talent for it. For now she would have to rely on the girl with blonde hair to lead the way since she didn’t know this place at all, and apparently the game was already in full swing.
”Okay! Let’s go!” the small android girl whispered excitedly as her new friend hoisted herself back into the ventilation shaft. The room they were in was about to get a lot noisier. They needed to be quick if they didn’t want to be found by all of those people who were supposed to be ‘it’. Tania grabbed the girl’s outstretched hand and pulled herself up after her, using the small jets that were built into the bottoms of her feet to help boost her up. While she had promised not to use her ability to fly or sense energy signatures, the kids she had been playing with earlier didn’t look like they were playing anymore. Besides, the rules to this new variation sounded a bit different. Grownups could reach higher places and there was more than one of them looking for whoever happened to be hiding. For the moment, that was Tania and this other girl.
”Lead the way,” Tania whispered once she was inside. The grate that had been covering the hole that the two girls had darted into was still on the floor, but they didn’t have time to try to cover their tracks. That may not have been so bad. Leaving little clues here and there might make things even more interesting as long as they kept moving. The thought of outwitting a bunch of grownups caused her to stifle a giggle. This was fun!
”My name’s Tania. What’s yours?” she asked quietly, as she followed the other girl.

Charlene hadn't noticed the boosters on Tania's feet as she pulled her into the vent. She quickly scurried out of sight, just in time to hear the elevator door opening. Judging from the sounds, she figured the guys coming in were there to just check the new tech, not look for her. Still, she didn't want to be in there with them for when word got out that she had slipped away.
"I'm Charlene," she replied softly, trying to move as quietly through the vents as she could, "Nice to meet ya."
As they rounded a corner, Charlene paused. She could see a grate up ahead, and through the openings in the grate, could see a guard on the other side. Dangit! They were trying to cut off all exits, and this time she didn't have any concussion grenades to help her. She had to find some way to draw him away from the vent.
Or maybe draw others to him.
"On my lead..." she whispered to Tania. Silently counting to three, she banged hard on the side of the vent, causing a loud clang. She then quickly turned, gesturing for Tania to hurry and crawl in another direction, away from the opening. As she moved away, she could hear the guard speaking on his radio. He clearly heard the sound and suspected that Charlene was near his location. Hopefully that would bring the guards running and draw them away from any other openings, allowing them a chance to slip out.
"If you see a clear opening, take it. Then we've gotta find somewhere else to hide!" she whispered excitedly. This was pretty fun now that she had a co-mischief maker.

Charlene... That was a pretty name. Now that they had introduced themselves to each other, they were officially friends. That’s how it worked as far as Tania was concerned. ”Nice to meet you too.” As hyped up for the new game she was playing as she was, the small girl had to keep reminding herself that she had to keep quiet. It would be no fun to alert any grownups to their position. Definitely not when she just started, at least.
The two troublemakers stopped as Charlene peeked into another vent. Apparently there were more grownups on the other side. The girl whispered to keep following her lead before banging loudly on the metal shaft they were crawling though before skedaddling further down the pipe. Ooh, was it time for a bit of tactics then? Tania couldn’t allow herself to be outdone. For now though, she was right behind Charlene and looking for a way out as instructed.
A little ways ahead of them there was another opening in ventilation shaft. As they crawled closer, Tania activated her scanners to see a couple of energy signatures hanging around just outside. They appeared to be the only ones in the room though. Now it was the small android girl’s turn to try her hand at a tactical diversion. Literally.
”Hang on. I have an idea,” Tania whispered before she turned around. The part of the ventilation shaft they had been crawling through had stretched in a straight line for a while, but behind them there was a rounded corner. Still on all fours, she stretched out her right arm in front of her and balled up her fist. Ready... Aim... Fire! After a moment of concentration, Tania’s arm detached itself right below her shoulder and short forward like a rocket. It hit the corner of the shaft with a loud BANG, creating a small dent in the shape of her tiny knuckles and lodging itself there. Tania stared at the metal appendage that had flown down the shaft and wiggled the stump it left in its wake. It wasn’t coming back. Okay, that was a problem...
Realizing that she couldn’t actually crawl all the way back down there to retrieve her arm without being caught, Tania decided that it was better to just cut her losses and keep going. She could always come back to get it later. The girl activated her scanners again to see that the energy signatures that standing around the vent were rushing off in the direction of the sound she had made. ”Coast is clear! Let’s go find a good spot,” Tania whispered to Charlene as if nothing was out of the ordinary. She may have been temporarily down an arm, but she still counted that one was a win.

Charlene's eyes widened when Tania suddenly fired her arm like a rocket, creating one hell of a ruckus and drawing the guards away. "You're an android?" she asked, clearly surprised. She hadn't expected this little girl to be a robot, nor her to have a rocket punch. "That is so awesome! My parents are androids too. I think they'll like you. Especially my mom!" But she could gush over her new robot buddy later. Right now, they had to take this opportunity. She scurried over to the grating, quickly pushing it off, she slipped out of the vent, helping Tania out behind her. Quickly looking around, she could see the large doors to the mess hall. Plenty of places to hide in. "This way!" Taking Tania's remaining hand, she quickly led the little android inside. -----^+^----- "You said the bang came from here?" Porsalynne was a little worried. She knew her daughter had developed a talent in crawling through the vents, but from what soldiers described, the banging had been pretty loud. The female android was worried she might have gotten herself hurt in there. As she and numerous soldiers waited outside, another had slipped into the shaft to try and retrieve her. "We heard two loud bangs," the soldier replied, "Don't worry Miss Porsalynne. If your daughter's in there, we'll get her out."The banging from within the shaft grew louder as the soldier wriggled his way out. Slipping onto the ground, he slowly climbed to his feet. He seemed to be alone. "Did you find her?" Porsalynne asked. The soldier shook his head. "No, but you may want to see this."Porsalynne gasped when the soldier held up an arm. For a brief second, she thought the worst had happened. However, upon closer inspection, she saw that the arm wasn't that of her daughter's. In fact, it seemed completely mechanical, but small enough to be a child's. "Who's arm is that...?" she murmured.

”Yup yup!” Tania enthusiastically confirmed what she was. Apparently Charlene’s parents were also androids. The girl was convinced that they would like her. Tania always liked making new friends. This place was turning out to be super fun so far. She wondered if she could stick around for a little bit. However, there was no time to think of that for the moment. The two of them still had a game to play!
As worth it as she was convinced it was to get rid of an appendage in exchange for a room cleared of grownups, running around with only one arm definitely had its downsides. Crawling was a bit awkward and her balance was being thrown off. Thankfully Tania didn’t have to worry about first part too much since they quickly made their way out of the opening that had been vacated. Charlene then grabbed Tania’s hand and lead her through a large pair of double doors.
”Oooh,” the small android could hear herself breathe as she got a look at the room they had popped into. It was huge! Long tables that were lined with chairs almost completely covered the floor. Tania had a sudden urge to try laying the tables on their sides and building a fort out of them. That would have been way too obvious for a hiding spot though, and there weren’t any soft things to pelt incoming grownups with. Alas, for another day...
Hmm... A table fort wouldn’t work and there weren’t any table cloths to hide beneath. Then she noticed the back of the room. It had a long serving counter that was probably where people went to go get food when they were hungry. Of course it was empty for the moment. That was too bad. Tania could have really gone for a cupcake right about now. Even so, it was still a point of interest since there might have been some storage space back behind it. If that didn’t work, it looked like there was another door along that wall that probably lead to the kitchen. That area was going to be their best bet. ”Back there! Cupboards can be nice places to hide in,” Tania giggled as she started skipping in that direction, her hand still in Charlene’s.

Charlene was really starting to like this girl. It was great to have someone her own age to play with, and a robot with an awesome rocket punch to boot! What other tricks did this little robot have? Rocket boots? Missile launchers hidden in her back? Just thinking of the fun and mischief she and her new friend could get up to made her giddy! She followed Tania behind the serving counter. Just like she said, there were numerous shelves and cupboards behind the counter, perfect places to hide in. Outside, she could someone approaching. "Quick! Inside!" she quickly stuffed the one armed android into one of the cupboards, before slipping into one herself. She kept the cupboard open a crack to see who it was. Entering from the side door, she could see the kitchen staff starting to enter. Dangit, was it lunch time already? No doubt they were here to start preparing meals for the soldiers here. Some were heading into the conjoined kitchen while some were heading behind the counter to start preparing. Charlene suppressed a gulp. It looked like they were stuck in the cupboards for a while. And the thought of food was now making her hungry. -----^+^----- Porsalynne could not take her eyes off of the arm in her hands as she walked, flanked by two soldiers. Why did they find a little girl's arm in the air vent? Surely Charlene wouldn't have left it there. Why would there be a robotic arm for a little girl on base at all? Though she wasn't a master of mechanics, but judging from the shoulder joint, it looked like this arm was detachable. Porsalynne could only draw on conclusion. There was an intruder in the base, one small, mechanical, and if the arm was any indication, adorable. And odds are was crawling around with her daughter. She wouldn't be surprised. "Come in." spoke a voice over one of the radios. The soldier to her right answered. "Whatcha got?" Even though she wasn't the one talking, Porsalynne could hear what the radio was saying. "We found a vent opening with the cover taken off outside the mess hall. Shall we search the area?"Porsalynne spoke up so she could be heard. "Wait there. I'm on my way!" She quickened her stride as she headed towards the mess hall. She was going to find her sneaky little daughter, and this new little android.

Tania was giggling incessantly as she ran across the mess hall with Charlene. As she suspected, there were plenty of cupboards back here to hide in back here. Unfortunately they didn’t have quite as much time to decide on which one to crawl into as the small girl would have hoped. There was shuffling coming from right outside the mess hall that Charlene picked up on. Before Tania knew what was happening, she was ushered inside one of the floor-level cupboards. She clapped her hand over her mouth to muffle her giggling as soon as it was free of Charlene’s grasp.
As soon as the android child calmed down, she cautiously pushed the door open just enough to get a peek at what was going on outside. Aww, the grownups weren’t supposed to be back yet. Her lower lip stuck forward in a pout as the fun was temporarily ground to a halt. Tania’s sour expression didn’t last for long as she heard them talking to each other about food preparation. She really hoped the food they were talking about preparing included cupcakes... Or regular cake... Or cookies... Or pudding... You know what? Tania wasn’t picky. As long as it was some sort of desert type thing or sugary snack, it would do.
Ugh, she needed to focus! There had to be something that she could do about them. With how the people outside were shuffling around, they might have discovered the two girls before they left. Sitting still for so long was boring. Frankly, she had already had quite enough of that on the truck ride there. Maybe she could at least scavenge one last bit of fun from this stand-still between the two kids and the unaware grownups. And while she was pretty sure that Charlene had dove into a different cupboard after shoving Tania into her current hiding place, she didn’t technically know where she was. Maybe she could even throw them off the trail to make it last a little longer. Either way, she was going to go out with style!
”Boo!” Tania squealed as loudly as possibly as she forcefully pushed her way out of the cupboard and stood proudly in the midst of the kitchen staff. She placed her single remaining hand on her hip and grinned from ear to ear. ”Gotcha good, didn’t I?”

Needless to say, the kitchen staff were very surprised when the small girl burst out of the cupboard, standing proudly amongst them with only one arm. Many of them did indeed jump in surprise, but now they were looking at her curiously. They knew of Charlene, but last they checked, she wasn't an android...and a blonde...and not as adorable as this one right here.
It was at that point that the doors to the mess hall opened, letting in Porsalynne, and a number soldiers. "Charlene!" she called out, looking around, "Are you in here?" The kitchen staff looked away from the small android to look at the more well known adult one. "Erm," one of the staff spoke up, "We don't know, but there's this little one." Porsalynne blinked before quickly walking over, looking around the counter to see the small android surrounded by the staff. Even though Porsalynne had figured she was around, it was still surprising to see the cute little thing.
She gave a friendly smile as she approached her, crouching down so that they were closer to eye level. "Hello there," she said in a sweet, friendly voice, holding out her detached arm, "I believe this is yours." She waited for the little android to accept her arm back before continuing. "My name's Porsalynne. What's your name?"

Tee hee! It was kind of disappointing to be found so soon, but it was a lot better than just randomly being happened upon by one of the grownups going about their business. Besides, the shocked looks on all of their faces were enough to make up for it. Most grownups didn’t make that face until they saw her fly or fire off one of her arms.
Still grinning triumphantly at the confused kitchen staff, Tania turned her head as she heard the door that she had used to enter the mess hall with Charlene was pushed open. A woman’s voice was calling out Charlene’s name. Moments later, the woman in question came into view from behind the counter. She had light hair and was wearing a dark dress. Some more men dressed in the same blue and white jumpsuits she kept seeing were accompanying her. Was that woman the main person that was ‘it’? The small girl stood fast. She wasn’t a snitch; her friend’s hiding place would be a secret that she kept. Besides, as she had already figured, she didn’t know the exact spot the other girl was hiding.
”Hi!” Tania piped up, waving her one arm enthusiastically at the woman. For someone she was supposed to be against in this little game of theirs, she seemed nice. It was then that the synthetic child’s eyes were drawn to the thing that the woman was holding out to her, claiming that it belonged to hers. ”Oh! Thank you for bringing my arm back to me,” she squealed as she took the appendage. Now she didn’t have to go crawling through the ventilation shaft again to get it back.
Tania slipped the end of the detached arm under her fluffy, white shawl and back into its socket. It immediately locked into place with a soft click. The pint sized android then bent her elbow and wiggled her fingers just to make sure everything was in working order. ”Nice to meet you Miss Porsalynne. My name’s Tania,” she introduced herself after briefly enjoying the feeling of being whole again. ”You guys are really good at hide and seek. Normally I can stay hidden for a lot longer than that.” Nevermind the fact that it was Tania that burst from her position, of course. Playing against that many adults was really hard.

"Hide and seek?" So, little Tania thought this was a game. That seemed to make the little android all the more cuter to Porsalynne. She just wanted to hug her. She gave her a warm smile, tilting her head to the side. "Well, the Blue Banner Army is very good at finding things. One of our jobs is to find magical things too." She thought the little android would like to hear that.
Then she remembered why she was here. "Oh, you wouldn't happen to know where my daughter is, would you? Her name's Charlene. We've bee-"
"I found her-gah!" one of the kitchen staff fell back as Charlene tried to dive out of the cupboard, trying to make a break for the door. She was almost immediately tackled (not painfully mind you, this was their superior's daughter after all) but two soldiers, who proceeded to hold the squirming girl in place.
"Hey! Let me go you facists!" Porsalynne sighed as she turned and strode over to them. Charlene stopped squirming when she saw her mother and gave a sheepish smile. "Hehe, hey mom."
Porsalynne shook her head. "Charlene, what are we going to do with you? You had us all worried sick. Thank goodness you didn't blow anything up this time. You had us running around all over the place. Thank goodness we didn't have to tell your father."
"Tell me what?"
Everyone seemed to freeze as all heads slowly turned to the main doors. There, standing in the entrance to the mess hall, was none other than the pale android himself, Cipher 24.
Both Porsalynne and Charlene gave a sheepish grin as the two soldiers restraining her jumped back, not wanting to give their superior the wrong idea.

Well, it seems that Porsalynne said the magic word(no pun intended). ”Magic?!” Her blue eyes went wide as her face was filled with a sense of wonder. Magic stuff meant adventures! Tania was real good at adventures and hide and seek! And that was what the Blue Banner Army was all about? Why was she just now learning about this?! The small girl could definitely get behind an organization that involved both of those super fun things. She was getting excited all over again.
Then the woman brought up Charlene and brought the excitement to a brief halt. Oh, she saw what Porsalynne was trying to do. It must have been part of the game to try to trick her into revealing the other hiders’ locations. In this case, that was Charlene. She was being tricky, but Tania was smarter than that though. You had to try a lot harder to pull the wool over her eyes. The little girl started to pull her shoulders up in a casual shrug before hearing a sudden clatter behind her. Oh... Charlene had darted out on her own then... Well, there went that idea. ”Right there,” Tania answered innocently as she pointed up to her fellow mischief maker. Charlene meekly greeted Porsalynne as ‘Mom’. Oh! She had talked about the woman a little bit ago. ”So you’re Charlene’s mama? You’re an android just like me then!” Tania declared happily.
Now that she was face to face with another android, Tania had lots of questions. Was Porsalynne initially ordered as a kit? Was her creator also on an adventure? What about sweets? Oh, now she was getting to the important stuff. What kinds of sweets did she like? What about games or stories? Though Tania’s questions were deviating from android-specific to just general preferences, she didn’t have a chance to ask a single one just yet. The doors to the mess hall swung open yet again as a man’s voice echoed off the walls of the large room. ”Hmm?” Tania spun around to see a pale man with dark hair and funny looking green eyes. ”Hi mister! I’m Tania! What’s your name?” The synthetic child completely missed all of the tension that filled the room as soon as everyone else realized he was there. Then again, chances were that even if she had noticed it she wouldn’t have cared. Tania was in a good mood after that rousing little game of hide and seek that had been followed by getting the jump on a bunch of unsuspecting grownups.
