The souls of Sage and Tago floated peacefully through the gardens of Heaven. Over the last few weeks they had been bonding quite well. Although there wasn't much to do in Heaven while they waited for their bodies, they made up interesting things to do. Either by trying to guess the names of their fellow souls, or by racing each other around the many lakes of Heaven. As they finished one of their latest races, a strange Brown Oni wearing a pair of overalls and holding a clipboard walked up to the pair of them. He spoke in a gruff tone as he addressed the two of them "Uhh, is one of you named...Tago Maa?" He spoke with uncertainty as he read the name from his clipboard.
Tago floated forwards and spoke in an excited tone "That's Me! What's up?" The Brown Oni looked her soul up and down, raising an eyebrow. After looking back at his clipboard he spoke again "Well, your request for a body has been denied..." Tago let out an annoyed sigh, but the Brown Oni continued as he flipped the paper over "...because of an ancient ritual that was preformed on your home planet. Due to ancient customs, you have been given permission to return to the land of the living until you perish once more. Would you like to accept these terms?" Tago bounced up and down in glee. She nodded quickly, and the Brown Oni checked something off his list.
As he finished signing the paper, Tago was suddenly engulfed in a bright yellow light. It blinded Sage with its brilliance. After a few moments the light subsided and out of it came Tago in her own body! She looked very different from any alien Sage had ever seen. She was humanoid in shape, but she looked similar to a fish of some kind. Her skin was blue with scales all over it, and her hair was made of some type of tentacle. Tago looked herself up and down with a smile. She grabbed Sage and spun around while laughing. "I'm alive!" she yelled excitedly as they spun.
After a moment, she finally came to her senses and stopped spinning. She looked at Sage and gave him a warm smile "Thanks for keeping me company these past few months. If you ever happen to pass through the Southern Galaxy look me up and we'll meet each other while alive!" Sage nodded, replying with a somewhat sad tone "Will do, if I ever get revived that is." Tago giggled as her body dissipated, indicating that she was being sent home.
The Brown Oni looked at Sage and flipped through his clipboard. After a few moments he spoke "Are you uh...Sage Bleu?" Sage nodded, unsure of where this conversation was going. He flipped through a few more pages before replying "Your request for a body has been approved, but they want to speak to you back at the Request Station." The Oni turned around and beckoned Sage to follow along. He did so, still unsure of what exactly was going to be asked of him.
They arrived in front of the large building, and the Oni turned to Sage "I've got some more souls to see, you can head in alone and get yourself sorted out." The Oni jogged away before Sage could get in a response. If Sage had a body, he would have shrugged his shoulders, but he could not do so in his soul form. He walked into the room to see a familiar Small Blue Oni sitting at a familiar overly large desk.
The Blue Oni craned his head over his massive desk and smiled. He seemed to instantly recognize the soul, even though he looked identical to all the others. The Oni hopped off of his large chair and walked towards Sage. He opened a small pocket book and wrote down something as he spoke "Good to see you again Sage! Your request for a body has been approved, but we'll need to ask you a few questions before we give it back to you. If you'll just follow me we can get everything sorted out." Sage replied "Sure thing, being a Puff-Ball is getting a bit boring." The Oni chuckled and turned to begin walking to a room in the back.
They walked through a large hall behind the desk, leading to a large wooden door. The Oni floated up to the knob and turned it, opening the door with a strained look on his face. As the door finally creaked open the two of them entered to find a surprise. It was a regular sized set of a table and chairs. The Oni sat down and gave a sigh of relief for finally being able to sit on a chair that was his size. Sage floated to the other chair and simply hovered above it.
The Oni pulled out his notebook again and flipped through the pages. After he did some searching he finally found the page he was looking for and began reading the page intently. The Oni fell deathly silent as he read through the page. He looked up at Sage and apologized "Sorry about the wait, I've never actually administered this test before so I'm just reading the rules one more time." The Oni quietly whispered the words on the page to himself as Sage waited patiently for him to finish.
After about Ten Minutes he finally looked up from the book and gave a smile "Alright, let's get started!" Sage raised a puff-ball eyebrow as he spoke "Start what? What does this test entail?" The Oni smacked his face and laughed "Oh jeez, did I really forget to explain? What a goof I am! Well basically I'm just going to ask you a couple of questions and depending on your answers you may or may not re-gain your body, sound good?" Sage surmised from the way The Oni said these words that the test was probably used to determine whether or not a soul would be worthy enough to earn their body back. Sage nodded towards the Oni and replied "Sounds good to me, whenever you're ready just ask me whatever question you wish."
The Blue Oni smiled as he flipped through his book again, most likely looking for the questions he should be asking. After a few moments the Oni let out an "ah-ha!" and looked up at Sage. He cleared his throat as he asked the first question "Alright, Question One: How did you die, and, if applicable, who was your killer?" Sage wasn't sure why this question was asked. He assumed they would have this information readily available, but it could also be a test to see how honest Sage was. The Puff-Ball decided to answer honestly "I was ended by my rivals comrade. I believe he may have been known as Komoto, but I am unsure if that was his real name or perhaps just an alias." The Blue Oni nodded, writing down Sage's answer and flipping the page.
The Oni spoke while reading the page "Alright, Question Two: Assuming your death involved a battle shortly beforehand, were you the one who started said battle?" Sage sighed, once again answering honestly "Yes, I was the one who began the battle. Though I will say the person I battled was evil." The Oni jotted down the answer and flipped to the next page. He raised an eyebrow as he read the question from the page.
The Oni looked up from his book and asked the next question "Um, okay Question Three: Have you killed anyone before?" Sage nodded, making sure to answer this one honestly as well because it seemed the most important "Yes. I've killed an entire underground group of Mole-Men who were planning on taking over earth, and I've also killed the Villain Donatsu." The Oni asked a follow-up question rather quickly "It says here that you've gone on record to say that you turned this 'Donatsu' fellow evil due to your actions in the past. Do you regret doing so?" Sage spoke in a stern tone as he replied "Yes." The Oni nodded, appreciating the short answer. He scribbled something on the page and moved on to the next one.
The Oni seemed to reach the end of his book. Looking up at Puff-Ball Sage, he asked the final question "If given the chance, would you return to the land of the living? If so, would you stay a good person?" Sage pondered for a moment. He wasn't sure if he wanted to return to the land of the living, but it would probably be for the best if he did so. Vipoi would need all the help he could get to make Earth a better place. He answered the Oni's final question with a confident tone "If given the chance I would love to return to life. There are many things I have yet to do. And to answer your other question, I would indeed stay a good person. I gave up my villainous ways ages ago." The Oni wrote down Sage's final answer and closed the book with a snap.
The Book disappeared, and so did the table and chairs. The Oni smiled as he spoke "I'd say you're good enough to re-gain your body. Follow me and we'll stomp out one final detail." The door behind them opened on its own and the two of them walked through it.
Instead of arriving in the main room of the Body Request Station, they instead arrived in a plain white room. Sage's soul was almost completely invisible in this room, save for a black outline his soul had. The Oni waved his hand and suddenly a very familiar body appeared in the void. It was Sage, but his body was fully human. The Oni spoke in a curious tone "We were able to retrieve your body from the day before your death, but we also found this version of yourself without the Cybernetics. If you'd like you could use this body instead, but it's up to you."
Sage floated up to his old body. It was clothed in his old Village Chief clothing. He knew he would enjoy living in his fully human body, but that wasn't who he was anymore. Using his old body would be an insult to the Blue Banner Army who so graciously saved him from the brink months ago. He turned to the Oni and spoke "Although it would be nice to be my old self, I think it would be better to use my semi-robotic body." The Oni nodded, waving his hand and causing the fully human body to disappear.
He waved his hand once more, and this time Sage's more recent body appeared before the two of them. Sage's soul moved a bit closer to his cybernetic body, but quickly turned back to the Oni. He spoke in an unsure tone "So...how do I get in it?"
The Oni laughed, almost falling to the floor. He waved his hand once more, and the body of Sage slowly moved towards its soul. As the body and soul touched a bright white light engulfed the already white room. After the brief flash, Sage was in his own body again.
The rooms brightness lowered, and it was revealed that they were still standing in the main hall of the Body Request Station. Sage pinched himself, making absolutely sure that this was real. He felt the pinch and smiled. He looked up at the Oni, who was now sitting at his desk once again. The Cyborg spoke in a curious tone "Well, I've got my body again. Any Ideas on what I should do now?"
The Oni pointed towards a small sheet of paper hanging on a wall "Well, there is a small tournament being held in a few days, you could sign up for that. I heard the prize for winning is a pretty good one." Sage was intrigued by this, so he went to investigate the paper.
It was a sign-up sheet. At the top of the paper it read: "CALLING ALL WARRIORS WHO WISH TO TEST THEIR MIGHT! COME ON DOWN TO THE HEAVEN ARENA TO JOIN IN ON THE FUN! DON'T HAVE A BODY? SEATING FOR SOULS IS FREE!"
The middle of the page had a few names jotted down. There were three spots left, so Sage wrote his name down and headed out to look for the Heaven Arena.
