Johnathan's eyes widened slightly at what he perceived. He wasn't sure what he expected to happen with an illusionairy technique once it interacted with his enhanced eyesight, but this strange image looked so real that he had to remind himself: This was only a trick on the senses, not actual reality. Otherwise, he'd be just as freaked out as the billiard player had been earlier. A flower with an eyeball blooming in the middle... Disturbing on many levels, disgusting on others. How did the doctor come up with these images? Then again, he had mentioned dabbling into the occult... if technology existed to turn a man into a machine, then the existence of true occult powers didn't seem far off. Horrifying images were par for the course for the hoaxes sold as 'occultism', so actual occult images and witchcraft would obviously be completely eldritch to the human mind.
"Interesting, very interesting." Moving his left hand slowly through the illusion, to be specific, through one of the petals of the blooming eye-flower, John nodded with respect. "Gleciar is right, this is quite impressive. If I didn't know for sure that this was an illusion, it could've easily fooled my eyes." Then though, he thought about the words the doctor said before summoning the flower. An ability to adapt... Yes, John knew exactly what Lunar meant. The human 'fight or flight' instinct had caused Walker to nearly die and be transformed into a machine - in exchange for his voice and humanity, great power. The most drastic of adaptations, to become something more than human... to become transhuman.
"The reaction when a human can no longer adapt, while keeping on being human... An interesting research subject, for some. You'd have gotten along splendidly with my father, Doctor. He was a trans-humanist - to advance beyond human limits of adaptations with technology. I'm the end result of that line of thinking." Flipping out another cigarette from his pocket, the android lit it up with a blue spark from his fingertip. "By overcoming the impossible, one overcomes being human in a variety of ways. Only very few will ever actually achieve it, and I don't know if the sacrifice is always worth the result." Despite his great power, John would've preferred staying human to becoming a machine, for sure.
He nodded towards Gleciar with a slight smirk.
"I agree with him, you're quite good with these images, Doctor. If it doesn't bother you, I'd certainly appreciate a different example as well... Understanding something that can confuse the human mind to this extent is quite intriguing. Especially since it obviously works on thinking machines as well."
