Often people support an idea without having much input to add. I suggest that instead of having to beg people to post "I support this", that liking a suggestion means the same thing towards moving to the point of a poll being made. It would reduce clutter in suggestion topics as well.

Makes sense to me, not like "Liking" a post really has any meaning anyways, so why not give it one?

I agree with that as far as discussions go. The main problem with the democracy is not so much polling, which is pretty easily done, it's that the system isn't really followed. Liking a discussion is fine, and if there's nothing to add that's fine too, as long as the process is adhered to where there is a discussion phase before a real vote post phase.
The main problem in the democracy in my opinion isn't the actual voting, which plenty of people participate in, and when it's done following the voting rules, it's usually done well and in an unbiased manner. The largest issue I see is when a vote is finished, implementation goes no where. Sometimes it feels like we're just spinning wheels. A lot of the items that have been voted upon, with a clear resolution, have yet to be implemented. Some of that is due to there being mechanical limitations on active staff member power as well as no clear 'implementer', but it's also the case I feel that there are soft vetoes on certain items, where something that does clear the vote hurdle ends up residing in implementation limbo for whatever reason.
Another related issue I feel is the idea that almost everything under the sun no matter how trivial requires a vote, while some ideas can pass on without a vote, which often feeds back into the first problem, further slowing the implementation cogs.
I know this is a little bit of a tangent, but it's something I've been thinking about lately and hoping to expand on when I have my thoughts down on it better.

I agree Vi-poi, the site is a bit to democratic. The players can't make every vote on everything. There are just somethings that the staff themselves must handle. I feel this will help the site grow and help get new features implemented if we lessen the democracy of the site.
