Vi-Poi watched the titanic spacecraft being loaded by hovering palletizers and floating forklifts. A dozen BBA Pigeon-class Battle Jackets were being slowly ferried in, ensconced in a steel rack of intersecting I-beams. The pot-bellied humanoid vehicles jostled softly in their harness. These were followed by another dozen of Blue Banner’s proprietary Battle Jackets – this time the Blue Fox variant. Where Pigeon was bulbous and compact, the Fox was narrow and agile. Where Pigeon was brightly-painted, the Fox was dark. Pigeon’s role was that of a support and repair infantry, while the Blue Fox was strictly a vicious killer, driven only by the very top rated ace Jacket pilots. Long and fat canisters of perfluorocarbon liquid -- a highly charged molecular oxygen fluid infused with charged nanomachines – crowned the iron loading sheath of the twelve Blue Fox Jackets. Pilots called the stuff pink goo, and it was used exclusively in the Blue Fox model, for heightened reaction times and deep space operations capability.
A pilot’s oxygen supply on an gas-breathing Jacket like the Pigeon or the larger Wolf infantry models would limit them to three or four hours of operational time in the vacuum, depending on exertion. With the enriched breathing fluid, a focused pilot could operate in a Fox for an entire day. Three, if he is able to find free oxygen floating in the void and takes the time to charge his recycle circuit.
It was all a very efficient system, one that Vi-Poi admired.
After the Battle Jackets came a backup load of ship-to-ship missiles, and myriad weaponry. They weren’t going to war with Vegeta, but it always helped to be prepared. Vi-Poi himself went inside through those hangar doors, landing with a smooth and soft kiai of air. He already detected several KAOS members aboard – the veteran Liang, the Saiya-jin Peis, the android Cipher 24, and the biotic construct BREU, along with Reikiko. Vi-Poi pursed his lips at the thought. That was a late surprise.
Vi-Poi made his way to the bridge after all loading was completed, and settled into the Captain’s Chair. Ahead of him, a viewscreen of the high atmosphere of Earth drifted. Plugged in directly to Big Blu’s energy conduits and circuitry, Vi-Poi had no need to issue verbal commands, but he wished to give the bridge crew a sense of accomplishment on their first interstellar journey. “Set a course for the Vegeta system. Maximum slip.” Vi-Poi said, referring to the Faster-Than-Light engine system. A slipdrive allowed them to enter into superluminal hyperspace and travel in between stars near-instantly, entering an overarching dimension outside of the mundane Universe, a lattice space where scales and thermodynamics took on different meanings.
When the leap into space happened, there was no tunnel of stars, or stretched beams of light, as one saw in movies. When traveling faster than light, the photoelectric waves in the visible spectrum still obeyed the laws of relativity. The stars, once visible at normal speeds, Doppler-shifted out of view entirely, their frequencies shifting relative to the speed of the spacecraft. Those stars entered the x-ray spectrum of light, above the visual range, and in congruence, microwave radiation that was once below the visual range and invisible, began to glow.
The viewscreen was awash with a centralized white glow, the aftereffects of the bang that started all of Existence. Vi-Poi could sense the intense struggle of Big Blu’s processors to maintain equilibrium as hull pressure increased dramatically from the sudden rise in gamma and x-ray radiation. It would be a battle for the system, all the way until Vegeta, but he was confident in its engineering.
Some woops and cheers came up among the bridge crew at the sight of the gleaming afterbirth of the Universe. There were even some high fives exchanged. Vi-Poi smiled. “On course to Vegeta.” He announced to the entire ship.
"A-Administrator A-Azure? S-She is on board currently!" Ensign Hikari's familiar voice responded.
"Who?" Vi-Poi asked.
"R-Reikiko!" The ensign stammered. "W~Wait where are you t-t-t-ouching?!"
Reikiko's voice buzzed faintly over the intercom. "hnnn... come here and be a good pillow...."
The transmission ended suddenly.
Vi-Poi hmphed. He supposed he'd have to talk to her about abusing his crew.
