Some rivalries spawn legends
"My fury grew along with my will to survive..."
1 Year Ago: The Return of the Crimson Lion
“Welcome to your new home, Lion.”, the guard said coldly, as he threw Donatsu into a cell, the chamber itself was a square shaped room that was carved into a boulder of sand stone. He was still tied up, his wrists bound by rope. The only luxury he was allowed was the solitude, for no one dared to step foot near his cell, being too afraid of the man who had crippled their hometown. The only contact he had was with his supervising guard, which were just things like: “Lights out, Lion.”, or “ Here’s today's meal.” The next several months in solitary confinement were dedicated to honing his fighting capabilities when he was alone. He practiced breaking small sand stones with his strong arm style of fighting; he grew stronger everyday.
One fateful day, they actually let him out of confinement, and onto the prison yard. The meddlesome guard keeping an eye on “The Crimson Lion”, the name that was given to him by the stories that spread through his hometown like the wild-fire he started . Donatsu took in his surroundings; looking upward, he saw a huge sand pit, the prison had earned it’s namesake. The overgrown ditch had a clear view of the sky he could feel the sun’s heat directly overhead, but it seemed farther from him than ever. There were two paths made of sandstone that lead to mostly area in the prison, of course there was no shortage of gates and guards posted around the place. The paths spiraled upward in a circle, staying parallel to each other all the way to the top.
Donatsu followed the path, taking it all in. As he passed the area where most of the other inmates were, they all turned and stared; the once noisy room falling silent. Hushed conversations began as he walked passed the inmates. He would pick up some tidbits blocking them out. “Isn’t that The Crimson Lion?”, one inmate said to another . “ Sure is! He’s taken more lives in one night then all the zeni I’ve stolen put together!”
The angry prisoner moved to an open area and used rocks as makeshift weights. His body was now in peak physical condition, the Lion was ready to make his escape, but how? He had an idea as he frowned at the that damned guard that he’d seen every day for 8 months, the guard returning the hateful look.
The Crimson Lion wakes up with the first smile he’s put on in years.
He waited patiently at the cell door for the guard, he always ended his rounds with Donatsu, wanting to keep an eye on him. “Into the yard with you.” He said, unaware of his prisoner’s murderous intent. He walked down the tall, spiral path with the guard only a step behind him; Donatsu stopped his descent. Still smiling, he looked down at the yard and let out a yell, getting the majority of the inmates’ attention . The guard pointed his spear at Donatsu, fear in his eyes as the Crimson Lion’s gaze fell upon him. Bu“You’re going to help me get out of here, Bubba.” Bubba the Guard thrusted his spear towards Donatsu, but he deftly avoided it and punched him in the gut, causing him to drop his spear. The guard toppled forward into Donatsu’s grasp; he lifted him over his head and threw him down two stories into the prison yard, reducing Bubba's spine to a fine powder. “RIOT!” the prisoners bellowed in unison they began to attack whatever and whoever they saw fit.
“They should’ve killed me…”
The plan was working perfectly, Donatsu nabbed Bubba’s spear and effortlessly defeated two more guards. He dragged one into his cell and changed into his uniform . Running back up the path, towards the top. “My revenge shall soon be complete!” He yelled, as he took out another guard in the confusion. Making a dash for the gate he faked a worried expression. “I need to get to the top! I’ve been requested to fortify an upper gate!” He acted the part perfectly and they let him through, too terrified and confused to question him. The Crimson Lion repeated this, climbing higher and higher; the fresh air hit his face for the first time in a year. Home free, he killed as many as he could in a timely manner before hijacking a vehicle.
“I’m coming for you Sage!”
He rode off toward his destiny.
Present Time: A Legend is born
“Chief Sage! Theres an intruder! The Crimson Lion has retur-” The guard was cut off mid sentence, a vehicle bursted through the wall, crushing his chest against the other end of the luxurious hut.
“SAGE!” Donatsu’s furious voice rang out “Face me coward!”
He hopped out of the vehicle and stood eye to eye with his hatred, personified. “You’ve gone far enough Donatsu! You’re tyranny ends here!”
“I was waiting for this...the fight of my life…”
Donatsu let out a battle cry, similar to a lion’s roar in ferocity spearing his rival with his shoulder and pinning him onto the ground. Sage instantly retaliated with an elbow to his opponents temple. He was forced off of Sage, from the punishing blow he was dealt, but quickly gathered himself, his rage controlling his actions.Sa “You can’t win criminal scum!” Sage attacked furiously, his strength bearing down upon Donatsu. The red haired warrior blocked most of the attacks but a few slipped through his defense. He pushed through the blows and dropped his guard attacking Sage in retaliation. “You’ll never win, I won’t lose to filth like you any longer!” His blows ferocious in strength as he wailed on his rival, throwing hooks and jabs at his rib cage.
Donatsu fell to his knees and onto the sand of the desert floor beneath him, his cape torn and his body broken.
"It's over Donatsu, your head IS MINE!!!"
The heavily injured blue haired warrior was running towards him his fist raised.
Ready to deliver the final blow to his long time rival.
"This can't be the end...can it...?"
He reflected on his life, his weary mind wandering.
6 Years Ago: The Witch’s son
Donatsu sat alone in the small hut with his mother, the hut itself being nothing special. It was made of the same sandstone all the houses were, but the person it was owned by was unique. Her name was Majo and she was known in town as a witch and a thief. “Listen up you red haired brat!” She yelled at him, he slouched in his seat knowing what was to come. “There isn’t enough food for you so you’ll have to go find your own. And don’t come back with some worthless excuse on why you couldn’t”
Donatsu left the house in search of food as he ended up doing most nights, never expecting to find much. The boy searched for hours to no avail. His stomach rumbled, seemingly taunting him. On his way home, he saw a pillar of smoke rising from where his home was. He stopped only for a second to stare before running towards it. He turned the corner only to find a roaring inferno where his home should have been.
A crowd formed all around the hut, the majority of them cheering the flames on. Donatsu called out for his mother as he pushed through the crowd, not fully comprehending what was going on.
“MOM! Mom where are you?!” Tears poured from his eyes, as he couldn’t even touch the rubble in fear of burning. The townsfolk started to leave as the fire began to die down, Donatsu tried tugging on their clothes and begging for them to help his mother. They hardly gave him a second glance. “Good riddance”, one man said, “About time” said another, he specifically recalls a group of women staring at him and saying how wrong it was for the “witch” to breed.
He was shocked, left dazed and confused by the townsfolks’ actions. Could they really think so little of him? Was he all alone? Sure, his mother was cruel but no one deserves to burn like that. Right? His mind raced as he paced the streets and alleyways sobbing. Eventually his sadness subsided and he felt utterly empty, anger started creeping it’s way in, filling the void left by the horrid events that transpired. “Damn these people! Curse this forsaken town and all it’s awful residents! I hate them! I hate them, I hate them all!!” He broke boxes on rocks and punched the ground until he tired. Finding a secluded spot behind an abandoned hut he eventually fell asleep, his future unsure.
5 YEARS AGO: Rivalry
"Thief! Someone stop that red haired brat!" The owner of small fruit stand called after him.
The red haired boy laughed as he ran through the sand ridden alleyway, clutching his stolen meal to his chest.
He's knocked over as he turns a corner glaring up to see a face he despised more than any of the filth his hometown housed.
"Well if it is't my least favorite loser!" The slightly taller teenager said. " Got my lunch for the day I see."
"Back off Sage I stole this fair and square!" Donatsu got up and squared up with his rival, only to be met by his fist.
He fell to the ground painfully dropping the desert pear he had stolen.
"Thanks for the grub loser!" Sage walked off eating the fruit.
Donatsu could only watch as his rival slamming his fist into the ground bloodying his knuckles.
Thats when he first hated someone...
3 YEARS AGO: The Raid
"Had enough yet punk?" Donatsu stood over his opponent, the other boys blood covering his hands.
"P-please Donatsu just take it!" He cowered before him and held out a pouch of zeni, his face cut, bruised, and swollen. The older boy had been doing this same thing to Donatsu for the past year, he wasn't about to forget that. "Your gonna pay for crossing me." He said as he lifted him up by his collar and looked him in the eyes. "By helping me raid this damn town they're not gonna know what hit them!" Knowing the weakling would be much to dumb to cross someone he feared.
He accepted in fear for his life, as did the other dozen teens he beat into obedience.
"No one ever could rally weaklings like me...They joined from fear, and stayed for greed..."
He stood on a make shift stage built up from wood and trash. The now leader of the Crimson Lions stood tall as he addressed his gang of misfits. "Listen up you sorry sacks!" His voiced boomed across the small abandoned hut. "Today we finally take down this garbage ridden town!" The crowd of goons cheered for there leader unaware of what was ahead of them.
"If only I'd known..."
Smoke and fire could be seen rising and burning the small town. In only a few short hours the Crimson Lions had the city on its knees.
Everything went according to Donatsu's plans, until suddenly a Blue Haired Warrior was reported to him by one of his scouts.
"Boss we got a big problem, that blue haired freak is back! And he's takin out all our boys!" The goon that reported to him had his face beaten in and his arm broken, by Donatsu in anger. "I want this guys head and I want it now!" His anger apparent knowing exactly who it was.
Him and the rest of his gang (Only 5 remained including him at this point) set out to find and end the only man who could stop them.
"He always ruined everything..."
After rampaging through streets they finally drew him out by taking hostages and holding them at knife point.
He stepped out into the sandy street smoke and sand filling the air accompanied by the smell of death.
"Looks like I'm the big dog now Sage! Not so big and mighty when i can attack back!"
Donatsu held up a young girl and put a knife to her neck. "Give yourself up and she goes free!" He smiled evilly at him thinking he'd won. Suddenly out of the surrounding huts towns folk clad in blue surrounded them with make shift spears and weaponry. "No Donatsu this isn't the path we should follow." Sage spoke in a authoritative tone. "Release the hostages and come quietly, stop this blood shed!" Donatsu scowled at him, what filth, thinking he could just turn the other way. turn good just like that? After all the hatred he had built up for this town and it's inhabitants? No. He wouldn't, he couldn't, Donatsu slit the girls throat. "NO! Seize them!" Sage scream to his followers. The gang members fell quickly to spears, the blue towns people surrounded Donatsu. The Warrior fought hard but was taken down by none other then Sage again. "Donatsu...You've become a monster." He said as he looked down at is rival of 5 years. "Your to far gone to save." The ex-gangleader scowled and cursed at Sage as he was taken away in chains and rope. The image of his rival standing over him the night sky usually filled with stars, replaced with fire, sand, and smoke was burned into his brain as they slipped a burlap sack over Donatsu's head.
"They thought I'd die quietly..."
The towns people gathered in the square, rubble and ash surrounding them. The sun unforgiving as ever not caring what had happened to the town. The Red haired villain stepped onto the platform in the center of the crowd, rocks and sand being tossed at him. "Filth." He thought to himself glaring across the sea of angry faces that had always hated him in return. His mouth gagged and his hands tied he stood on trial. "Today we have this towns first trial in it's history." Sage spoke loudly into the crowd. " Seeing as I'm the new chief we'l be handling criminals differently." Donatsu laughed to himself, so that was his game, becoming chief. His burning fury towards the man only grew at this revelation. The trial was full of one-sided arguments to kill him then and there, the only person saying anything that wasn't to slay Donatsu were the few who said to torture him instead. When the verdict was served everyone was shocked and appauld as the words left the new Chief's mouth. Don"He is to be sent to the new prison in the sand pit."Donatsu charged at him being sent to the ground by guards with staves. The image of his rivals smug face as he began the body destroying journey to his new prison, burned into his soul.
"It's over Donatsu, your head IS MINE!!!"

Sage was surprised at his strength and took one too many hits. He was pushed backwards and began fleeing into the desert in order to have more space. “Come back you coward, face your death like a man!” Donatsu arrived on the outskirt of the city to find his rival waiting for him in the open.
Donatsu charged at his rival, attempting to shoulder bash him once again. Sage smirked and easily flipped him head over heels using the Crimson warriors own momentum. Where did that strength come from? The chief had an aura about him suddenly, he looked at Donatsu menacingly. “You never should have come back Donatsu. Now you’ll taste my true power!” Sage bombarded him with vicious and powerful strikes, they came at Donatsu so fast he couldn’t dodge any of them! He could only sit there and take the lightning fast strikes from his opponent, his stamina wearing away. “It’s over scum!” Sage yelled as he flipped away from his rival. His hands glow with a blue aura. “Lightning Fist!” Sage rushed towards Donatsu and nailed him in the chest with a deafening crack. Donatsu fell on the ground and panted heavily trying to get back to his feet. He gets up for a second until...
He remembers the pain, the suffering, all he had done to be here.
“SAGE!!!” Burning red energy burst forth from the red haired warrior, surrounding him as he stood. Sending him airborne and deep into the city from his newfound Ki. He raised his hands, his eyes turning a dark shade of red, as a giant fire ball forms between his palms. It grew in size as he stood his ground, the sand being lifted by its force, his face was coated in pure rage.
“DID YOU REALLY THINK I’D LET YOU FILTH LIKE YOU LIVE!? PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE FOR YOU TRANSGRESSIONS!”
The Crimson Lion Roars loudly as he throws the fiery ball of destructive energy directly into the towns center.
“WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!”
“CRIMSON BOMBER!!!”
The explosion is massive in size, it’s destructive force vaporizing every house, vehicle, and person within its radius. A blinding light envelopes Donatsu...
He rose from the sand exhausted, his power having left him. Donatsu could still feel his rage being turned into energy within his gut, he would use this new found power. But for what? Only time would tell.
“My revenge is complete.”
He smiled evilly to himself, and spit on the rubble-filled crater that now served as the only evidence of his revenge. He turned and walked away towards his future, ready to show the world his newfound power.
(There it is, hope you liked it! I know it’s not the best, but i gave it my all!)
