The corona of the sun slowly appeared above the water. Curling around the rail, ten hairy and leathery fingers grasped the metal. Claudbry stood on the edge of his balcony, peering out across the city's bay. Crystal clear water, as blue as the sapphire that adorns a lady's neck. Claudbry wore his night cap, a large gangly thing which really had no purpose, and his orange and purple striped pyjamas. Claudbry grinned.
"A spiffing day for a cup of tea"
Stretching, he stepped back from the railing and turned to the metal table on the balcony. He picked up Poppycock and strode back inside of his house. Inside of his home was much cooler than the outside. Even though the sun had only just come out, the temperature was already rising. Claudbry carried on past his lounge and into his chambers. His bed was neatly made with a little towel folded on the foot of the bed. Like his clothing, his bed covers were burgundy and his pillows orange. Claudbry leant Poppycock against the edge of the bed before crossing the room to the wardrobe. He climbed out of his pyjamas and placed his hat on the door knob. He removed a cotton single breasted waistcoat, a wool undershirt and a pair of cotton trousers. After placing himself within the clothing, he grabbed Poppycock and headed out, back into the lounge. Placed on a side board were two cuff-links. The cuff-links were made of silver and were shaped like tea leaves. After fastening these to his cuffs, he stepped out into the porch and out into the pathway.
"Good day Mr.Bry!"
A shrill voice called out from a doorway on the other side of the alleyway. Claudbry looked over and grinned.
"Greetings Mrs.Pom"
Claudbry waved above his head in a large arc. Mrs.Pom was leaning out of her doorway. She too was a Zoanthrope, but not a Chimpanzee like Claudbry. Instead she was a dog, a Spaniel to be precise. Her fur was golden and her eyes a similar colour. She beamed at Claudbry, clearly happy to see him.
"Heading out so soon are you?"
She asked as she picked up the milk bottles from infront of her doorstep. Whilst waiting for a reply she peeled off the lid off of one bottle and licked the cream off the top.
Claudbry straightened his top hat and replied:
"Oh yes! Seize the day, as they say. Just off to set up the old stall. Spiffing weather to drink some tea, do you agree?"
Mrs.Pom chuckled as she licked her milky chops.
"Quite. I'll pop on down later"
Before Claudbry had time to head down the alley, a small hand grasped at his trouser leg, tugging. Looking down at the disturbance, he saw little Pech. She, like her mother, was a golden Spaniel too. Claudbry placed a hand on Pech's head and ruffled her fur, laughing.
"Run on back to Mrs.Pom, Pech, i've got work to go to"
Giggling, Pech bounded off back across the alleyway to her mother, holding onto Mrs.Pom's skirt as she grinned and waves at Claudbry. After saying good bye, Claudbry headed on down the alleyway away from the houses. As the alleyway widened the air became less humid, instead becoming warmer. As he made his way to his destination, he passed sweet smelling perfume shops, steaming restaurants, paper covered newsagents and a whole menagerie of other shops. After walking about a mile and a half, Claudbry reached the plaza. The plaza is a large rectangular open space with four main streets branching off. One of which Claudbry had come down. In the centre of the plaza, a raised garden with a complete rainbow of flowers and different heights, bushiness and colours of trees. People wandered around, aimlessly spending money at the stalls that lined the edges of the plaza. One of the stalls along the side of the raised garden, an empty stall stood. This is where Claudbry walked over to. On the board above the stall, "Bry Tea", was written in burgundy paint. Claudbry climbed up to the raised platform behind the stall and took off his top hat and waistcoat. He hung them up on a peg. to the side of the stall a box stood. The box was made of red planks and had an image of tea leaves on the side. After opening the crate with Poppycock, Claudbry pulled out the innards. Several boxes of tea, stacks of disposable cups and a kettle. Fiddling with this and that, Claudbry finally finished setting up his wares in orderly fashion along the front of the stall.
After a few minutes some passersby had made their way to the stall. Grinning, Claudbry served them some piping hot tea, freshly brewed. By now the sun was beating down, beads of sweat poured down the side of Claudbry's forehead as he slaved over a boiling kettle. Customers kept coming and going. Tea cups were piling up in bins across the plaza. Just after a pleased customer finished purchasing a cup of tea, Claudbry's neighbour Mrs.Pom walked up. At her side was little Pech. She wore a beige blouse and a small pink hat with a flower adorning its front. Slung over her left shoulder was a large brown handbag.
"Good afternoon Mr.Bry, one large cup of tea for me and a small cup of milk for lil' Pech."
"Coming right up!"
He quickly whipped around the stall, boiling water, dipping tea bags, pouring milk, stirring, adding sugar, adding a lemon piece. Claudbry placed down the two beverages on the counter and stepped back, wiping the sweat from his brow. Mrs.Pom put her handbag on the ground next to her as she shuffled through the notes in her purse. Suddenly a dark figure dashed past and swooped up her handbag! The figure pegged it across the plaza away from the stall. Claudbry simperingly watched the figure. Grabbing Poppycock, Claudbry vaulted the front of the stall and dashed after the figure. Thudding, the two shot towards one of the side streets, the figure in front had around 100ft of space between them and Claudbry. As the figure turned into the small side street, he knocked over two dustbins, blocking the way. Claudbry grinned.
"Spiffing!"
Claudbry roared. Poppycock started to extend, the cane growing to three times its normal size. He swung Poppycock above the bins, grappling onto a balcony above. He used his momentum to fly over the bins. Up ahead the figure had decked a couple of ladies. Claudbry frowned as he ran, Poppycock cutting the air. As the man stumbled to get up, Claudbry had gained another fifty feet on him. Only fifty feet of dusty paving kept them apart. The figure attempted to abscond down an alleyway, but he could not fool Claudbry. The figure had slowed, clearly not used to having to run so quickly from a victim. Noticing the thief's fatigue, Claudbry grasped Poppycock in both hands and shouted: "Pip Pip!". Dashing. Claudbry appeared behind the figure, aiming a kick to the small of his back. Cursing and tumbling, the figure fell the the ground a few feet in front. Unwilling to give up, the thief rolled over and kick up as Claudbry walked closer. The feet made contact, making Claudbry stumble backwards. By the time he recovered his balance, the thief threw a punch right at Claudbry's face. Spitting blood, Claudbry opened his eyes to have another punch come towards his nose. Crack. His nose broke under the force of the thief's fist. Disorientated, Claudbry's head span as he tried to throw a few punches, but all attempts proved futile. The thief had started to leg it back down the alleyway, further on. As Claudbry waited till his head stopped spinning, he heard a scream. He looked after where the thief had ran, trying to spot any figures. But the sun shone too bright. Claudbry raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sun and saw the theif holding a small child by the arms. Pech. The small figure was Pech! Furiously, Claudbry swiped Poppycock off the floor and charged. Faster. Faster. Claudbry soared through the air, bringing his cane down upon the thief's head, knocking against the wall. Instinctively, the thief tried to attack Claudbry. Quicker, Claudbry jabbed Poppycock towards him and shouted "Shocking!". The thief's eyes widened. Realization struck him. Poppycock shook as a bolt of Ki blasted from the end, smashing straight into the thief's chest. The thief lay, spasms causing his body to shake. Claudbry lowered Poppycock, stopping the stream of ki. Pech held onto his leg, crying with gratitude. Little strands of smoke rose from the thief's charred clothes. Pech and him walked back to the stall, handbag in hand and grins on their faces. Meanwhile the thief sat in the back of a police hover-er.
