Nabel had adjusted surprisingly well to the city life. After moving into East Capitol with Amy almost a year ago, the lad had gradually grown to accept his newfound role as an almost normal teenager, whose responsibilities were few and far between. He was no longer the self-styled Vampyre King, who had failed his fallen master, and allowed that demonic subset to fall to ruin. His silly, little exile was practically a tiny blimp on the boy's mind these days, as he instead focused on making up on all of the time that he'd lost. He hadn't even been able to continue his martial arts training, at least not properly, Amy had stifled that every opportunity. The older woman had grown into her role as a guardian fairly quickly, and insisted that the little demon immerse himself in the city life. She had gone so far as to hire a tutor for the lad, essentially homeschooling him for the time being. The plan, if the Vampyre's road would be followed completely, was to allow the lad to catch up on all the years of studies that he'd never received, and allow him to enter high school by the next year. As expected from the tiny fiend, he approached it all with great enthusiasm. But the change in his lifestyle's pace still took a toll on him. It brought about a sort of emotional whiplash on the lad, going from the chaotic homelessness of his former shady dealings, to living in a stable enough household (all things considered). That was why Nabel found himself in the park, where no textbooks or reviewers were in sight, as he just took a moment to roll around and relax. Today would be his off day, the proverbial 'me-day' that he'd dreamed of since he was a child. It was nice to be in a public, open space like this and not be waiting on mystical drug dealers or crooked cops. Really, he had so much to be grateful for these days. And with how long he'd lived in the area at this point, all eyes weren't on him anymore. It seemed that the good people of East Capitol had grown accustomed to the deformed, demonic toddler. Thread PL: 157 133 Heavy Weights equipped! Active PL: 39 283 Gira sat in East Capitol's city park, dressed in a simple white t-shirt and jeans and eating a corn dog as she rested on a bench. Today was her day to simply relax. She had been working her ass off lately. Between training, stopping genocidal maniacs and would-be conquerors, her schoolwork, hero work as the Watcher, and helping her team train for the upcoming school boxing championship, Gira had not taken any time for herself. After her trip to Konats, she felt dangerously close to collapsing from exhaustion. That being the case, she decided to take a walk in the park and eat some good food. No training, no heroing, none of that. It was a lot harder than she anticipated. When you spend so long running nonstop at one hundred miles an hour, it was difficult to slow down and get into a different rhythm. She had to stop herself from getting into her gravity chamber and training til she dropped more than once today. Eventually, she decided on a change of scenery and found herself in the East Capitol. Indeed, it was much easier to relax here. She had little to no responsibility in this part of the world. Gira finished her corn dog, with a satisfied sigh, throwing the stick into a nearby trash can. "Mm-MM! Good stuff." She pat her stomach gleefully before getting up from her spot and beginning to walk down a narrow concrete path that looped around a man-made pond. She knelt down and looked into the water, watching the colorful fish swim around each other. When she looked up, however, she saw a familiar sight. Gira couldn't believe she missed it before. The energy was definitely familiar, but the person's distinctive appearance was what she remembered the most. The girl approached the little demon boy as he rolled around in the grass, leaning over him. "Yo, Nabel, right?" She smiled at him. "It's me, Gira. I don't know if you remember me or not. Its been awhile, but we hung out with that guy, Matt. How have you been?" The hybrid silently thanked her lucky stars that she found someone familiar to hang out with. Everyone else seemed busy, so she was forced to entertain herself up until now... and Gira was terrible at that. At least, she was terrible at entertaining herself in any way that didn't involve training of some kind.

Nabel was busy enjoying the soft grass against his leathery flesh, when he was randomly approached by someone. His gaze darted upwards, as he stayed on the ground, head tilting like a ridiculously curious puppy. And who else would the fiend see but his old pal Gira? Well, old in the sense that he hadn't seen her in literal months, and that he was fairly certain that the girl was at least few weeks than he was. He hoped so, at least. While he didn't mind the effects of his age regression most of the time, the back of his mind longed for the days when his maturity wasn't somewhere between preschool and third grade.
"That would be me, yup." The boy smiled widely and sweetly. Even with his deformities, the scene would still be quite cute to anyone who's evens slightly fond of children. It seems that his voice had grown just the tiniest bit deeper since he'd last met the superheroine. "I'm surprised that you still remember me, honestly." He chuckled innocently, smile twisting into a grin, as he enjoyed the view. He hadn't looked at anyone from this position since he was an actual child. There was a curious, almost innocent sort of nostalgia that welled up within him, as his gaze focused on the young woman's glasses. "Good to meet ya again in person, Gira!"
Of course, no encounter with Nabel would be complete without the sudden surge of depraved energy. It was practically in the boy's contract. Every time he'd made a significant, or even barely important, appearance in someone's life, he needed to flash out his demonic heritage. This time it came in the form of something much darker than the boy, gathering up over the Hybrid like a stormcloud of evil. A gravelly, inhuman voice sprung forth, and spoke in the most sinister of tones. "I'm pretty sure her name's Lyra, Nabel." It said simply, before vanishing completely, not one trace of it to be found. Its aura wasn't even in the area anymore.
Even as the boy groaned, it was already too late. "Pretty sure it isn't, my memories here, shut up." Nabel answered back quickly, his tone more assured than annoyed. In fact, he spoke in a rather matter-of-factly manner, which was almost surprising considering how childlike his voice was. With that, the boy returned his focus to Gira. "So, how've you been?" I've had this finished for hours now, but didn't hit post, sorry ;;; I got distracted.

Gira smiled and giggled at Nabel's behavior. She forgot just how charming the little demon kid could be. "Yup, I remember you. You're kind of hard to forget." She knelt down on the grass as her smile grew. "Good to see you again too. To be honest, I didn't know if we'd ever meet again." It had been quite some time since the two met. Gira had simply assumed he had gone off-world or was living somewhere she wasn't able to find him at. Gira had a lot of friends that ended up doing that, going off somewhere without saying goodbye. Tulip, Kallabash... and until today, she thought that Nabel had gone and done just that. It seemed that she was wrong, however and when it came to stuff like that, she liked being wrong.
While they were speaking, Gira felt a malevolent presence enter their space. It felt cold, almost like winter had come to the park all of a sudden. A voice spoke to Nabel shortly thereafter. It was strange, otherworldly... and it sent a shiver up Gira's spine unlike anything ever had before. It seemed to be coming from above her, but Gira couldn't find herself able to turn and face it for some reason. The whole thing just made her uncomfortable. Thankfully, it left as quickly as it came, leaving her and Nabel alone once more. The teen let out a long exhale and smiled at her long lost friend again as he asked her how she was doing. Truthfully, she had been up to much since they last crossed paths.
She had ascended to new levels of power, with another level on the horizon. She had gone to distant planets and battled various threats to worlds that some had never even seen before. Made new friends, too. She didn't go into detail, however. For now, she would simply make conversation. "I'm doing fine. I've gotten really strong since we last saw each other. Been off the planet many times too. My hero work has been going well. I got... offered a movie deal, but I turned it down. I don't know, I feel like doing a movie would kinda ruin the point of The Watcher." She chuckled lightly before clearing her throat, moving on from that. "Other than that, i've been training for my school's boxing championship. I'm supposed to lead my team to victory again this year. It's my last time before graduation, so..." She smiled sadly and averted her eyes for a moment before looking back at Nabel. "What about you? How have you been?"

Nabel's path in life had been tossed into the complete opposite trajectory of wherever Gira was headed. He'd already known that, after all, given how he'd spot the girl's exploits on the news every now and then. And though the information passed between the two of them was still sparse, the teensy, tiny demon could already tell that there was so much more for him to unearth about the superheroine. On the other hand, he had settled down to an almost radical degree. Gone was the instability and pain that he crossed constantly in his daily life, instead he had become a homeschooling student who did little other than study and train.
Yet despite there being a bit of a hole in his motivations, the boy seemed content and happy for his friend, as she listed down some of her accomplishments. Nabel was sure that there was much left unsaid, but he could let that slide for now. All he wanted at the moment was to catch up and hang out, something that had also lost a place in his schedule in the past few months. After all, he had grown interested in the Hybrid after their first encounter, and was eager to learn more about actual school and constant superheroics. "Sounds like you've been busy," came the boy's only comment, before looking around, and nodding to himself.
"Yeah, I sees you on the news sometime." He picked himself off of the ground, rolling to his side before finding himself in a kneeling position. Despite how they should have now been on the same level, there was a quite noticeable height difference between himself and Gira. It almost made him chuckle, as he was reminded of just how smaller he was compared to other people his age.
"Amy's a fan too, but she told me to focus on all the tutor-type stuff first before looking for you." The lad sighed, but was clearly eager to continue conversing. "I've been good, really bored, but I'll live~" He nodded, a single, excited eye glittering as he let out a sing-song hum. "I'm getting ready to go to real school next year!"

Gira was a little surprised to hear that Nabel saw her on the news sometimes. Of course, she knew that some of her exploits made it on the news. She didn't exactly go about her hero work secretly. Not only that, she had fans too. Though Gira shouldn't have been as shocked as she was. Plenty of superheroes had fans. She had also been active in the superhero world long enough to where she had proven herself a more than competent hero. It made her wonder if she had actual fan clubs like the other superheroes did. She'd have to look that up later. At the mention that Nabel was to start school next year, Gira grinned and gave the demon boy a thumbs up.
"Awesome! That must be exciting. I remember my first day of school. I was pretty excited. I had just learned to fly, though, so I had to keep that under wraps." Gira was happy that she didn't have to worry about hiding stuff like that anymore. Her mother had given her blessing for Gira to continue fighting crime and embracing who she really was. The only reason she wore the mask nowadays was to keep herself from becoming too famous as Gira. She saw what really famous fighters had to put up with on a daily basis, being hassled by adoring fans. Gira didn't really like having that much attention brought to herself. "So, who is this Amy? Has she been taking care of you? This might be a weird question, but is she, like, your mom or something?"

Nabel, having little knowledge on the superhero community beyond the ones he'd hidden away from as an actual toddler, seemed rather nonchalant about the reveal. As far as he knew, the girl was the bestest costumed crusader around, as he personally knew how awesome she was. It didn't occur to him to mention the old-school fanzine, that a certain Vampyre regularly received new issues of. That's right, the demon didn't think that the Watcher having an entire monthly magazine, complete with a subscription service and small sponsors, was pertinent information at the moment. The lad seemed to have figured that Gira was already fully aware of this.
Instead, he focused on how excited the taller teen was for him, and in return he gave his own giddy, little grin. "Ohh, what was your first day like?" He asked excitedly, bouncing around in his grassy seat, before a realization hit him. Something that statement was a tad bit off, and he'd get to the bottom of it. "Why'd you have to hide it?" He asked innocently, blurting the question out in the same way that a curious kindergartner would during story time. That childlike disposition remained posted, as he moved onto the girl's question.
"Oh, Amy's kinda like my momster nowadays!" Nabel nodded, more than a little pride in his voice, as they broached the new topic. Still, he couldn't help but blush, as he shook his head. "That's mom plus sister, not mom and momster." He clarified, cheeks flushed purple. "She used to be my secretary when I was older, at least she says so, I dunno." The lad looked a little lost at his own statement. It seemed that even he himself had yet to verify the claim. "But now she takes care of me 'cause I don't remember all the stuff that I should, and I got kiddiefied." He chuckled at that last line. "When she drinks sometimes, she says it's all like a bad sitcom."

"My first day? Well, it wasn't too bad. I made a few friends. I had already known my best friend, Kaci for awhile. Our moms grew up together, so we kinda did too. But I ended up meeting my friend Pence, too. We're still friends to this day in fact. We're on the boxing team together." She smiled, recalling her and Pence's first meeting. He actually had a little crush on her, which was incredibly cute looking back on it. "As for why I had to hide my abilities, well... my mom didn't want anyone to know I was anything special. I had to hide my tail too." She gestured to the furry appendage at her back. "She just wanted me to live a normal life, but I couldn't resist my Saiyan nature forever."
Gira kicked a rock in the grass before continuing. "That's actually why I started my hero work. I had to find some outlet for all of this energy. You're not a Saiyan, so you don't really know what it's like, but I just had all this pent up energy that I somehow had to get rid of. Fighting criminals did it for awhile, then I actually started to want to help people. After awhile, I was more hiding from my mom. Our house was attacked by someone looking to avenge a villain that ended up dying when he tried to kill me. I had no choice but to fight back, so my mom learned what I was up to. It's fine now, though. I don't have to hide from her anymore. I got her blessing after that, so everything's fine now." Gira's smile turned into a big grin.
"My hero identity is more about not wanting to become super famous to where i'm constantly hassled on the street. Fame isn't what the Watcher is about. The Watcher is more about hope and selfless sacrifice." She put her hands behind her back and chuckled nervously.

Nabel merely looked up with a stunned expression, as he listened in closely to everything that the girl had to say, not winking (blinking was physically impossible for him) even once. His wide-eyed 'Whoa's and 'Yo's were indicative of how gripped he was throughout all of Gira's recap. He reacted quite appropriately to each moment, nodding empathetically at the mention of natures and urges, looking worried when criminals and fighting was brought up, and (finally) giving an elated series of childish giggles once everything was wrapped up in a neat little bow. That was some serious story-telling chops from Gira, given the now much younger boy's dwindling attention span.
If he wasn't a fan before, then he definitely gained even more admiration for the young woman. How such a high level of respect was even possible was beyond mortal comprehension, but thankfully for Nabel, he was fairly certain that mortality was an optional feature on his race. "The Watcher is awesome!" The boy nodded eagerly, giving a happy, little grin, as his starry-eyed gaze was shot out at the young woman. Suddenly, however, he shook his skull rapidly. The boy seemed to be holding the rock that was kicked away, as he tilted his head to the side, and softened his grin into a smile.
"Actually, you're awesome!" He chuckled. Deep inside, the lad wondered just what could have been if he kept in contact with Gira, or really any of his friends. Maybe if he stuck around, a certain deceased figure would have been more than a lost personality's latent memories. "I'm glad that everything worked out for you in the end." He said sincerely, as he lay back down, and looked up. "Hey Gira, I have another question..."

Gira was amused watching Nabel's reactions to her story. He really did remind her of a small child with how wide-eyed and curious he was about everything she said. It was at that point, however, that Gira realized something. She hadn't had too many interactions with Nabel, but she remembered that he seemed to like his alcohol. Yet, the whole time they had been speaking, the demon had not reached for a flask even once. The hybrid found that a little strange. Maybe he quit drinking when he took up with this Amy character? That was a question to be asked later, though. There were other things to be discussed.
When the hybrid was praised by Nabel, being called "awesome," her cheeks went slightly pink and she laughed, scratching the back of her neck sheepishly. "Heh, thanks, but I don't think i'm that awesome. I'm just trying to do what's right is all. I don't think I really deserve any accolades for that. Plus, now that i'm a Z-Fighter, protecting Earth is kind of my job." She grinned at Nabel and gave him a thumbs up. "Thanks though. Means a lot to know that some people think i'm cool for doing that stuff." Then Nabel asked if she could answer another question. "Sure, what's up?"
