This lovely evening Matt is pulling a long shift at work, towards the late night two prominent people are on shift. The General Manager that hired him, and a Human named Caraco, He was a pretty excitable person, to the point where it was sometimes very draining to be around them after the long hours of a shift where you're feeling exhausted and they're still raring to go. Even still, they were nice and intended mainly just to help morale. Matt was standing at the dish pit, trying to crunch out as many dishes as he could in the time that he had before the next delivery. thankfully he had a nice little buffer in the fact that Caraco just took a 4 person delivery and he usually ran all the way there instead of trying to fly like he's shown to be able to do. He could hear his manager rushing in and out of her office, trying to get together everything to close up as she'd forgotten to since the day was fairly busy and she needed to help finish orders.
Matt heard the door open with the bells they installed onto the door to make sure they could hear who came through. Mattenes put the dish in his hands down into the soapy water. trying to sprint right out to attend to whoever could come in he slipped on the soapy water that had spilled some onto the floor causing him to slip and slide very quickly out of the back of the store and crash right into the delivery table. He cringed feeling most of the pain in his face. He winced and sat up, holding his face for a second "Ack!" He jumped up and shook off the pain only to see Caraco in front of him; laughing. Matt felt a wash of embarrassment wash over him as he felt a bit silly.
"He, there slippy! Cmon let's keep goin' Just came in and there are four orders all goin' in different directions!" Caraco looked to the manager and shouted "Hey! Liz! Can I take half of Slippys order here since it'd take too long for him to take a four in opposite directions?" To which he heard a small "Sure!" Coming from the back as well as some things falling down. "Welp! That's that! Come on, we'll make it a race!" He says, pulling two orders out of the oven and cutting them, and boxing them up. "I take these two, you take the other two that are about to come out and we go as fast as we can! no holding back!"
Matt nervously looked to his co-worker and sort of shrugged "W-well, I mean we still have more deliveries to go, would we wanna space it out so that we don't go overboard and get tired out?" He asked, his voice going somewhat quiet. It was hard for him to say no to someone that bombastic, and it sure as hell didn't change his mind with a soft voice.
"Come on! If you always try to hold back for the end you'll never do your best! Cmon, let's go I'll be outside warmin' up my sprintin!" He said, and before matt could try to interject he was already outside. He sighed and walked to the cutting station, pulling the orders out and cutting them, boxing them, and running outside to get ready for something he honestly didnt sign up for.
Caraco was outside holding the boxes in his hands as he stretched his legs out. "Awesome! so, on the count of three we go, and whoever gets back first doesnt have to do the dishes and gets to sweep instead!" With that, Matt groaned. He liked sweeping much more than he did washing dishes so there was some tangible gain for this race. He couldnt back out now, he had an opportunity now. He crouched down, and looked to his co-worker "Sure, alright let's go- a-ah you count?-" As soon as he finished the question with no delay he heard "Three! Two! One!" Matt had barely enough time to let his aura flare to life before the "GO!" And both of them took off in a blaze of speed. Leaving the general manager behind who'd gone out the door to try to hand them the slips they left behind. "Oh for the love of- Caraco you goober." She shrugs and sets them on the register table heading back to her office. "I'll have to tell Tiger, and Caraco to get phones for gods sakes."
Matt soared right into the sky, speeding by with all of his might. The speeds were enough for him to need to hug the boxes as he flew completely horizontally so the orders were safe. The city limits came near, and the houses in the forested, rural area began to sprout out. If he flew any higher the wind pressure would knock the boxes from his hands, so instead he flew near ground level, having to dodge and weave his way through the trees. He'd make a comment about the fact this was ridiculously hard at this speed to steer, but he was worried if he opened his mouth to speak he'd be just a little bit too distracted to dodge properly.
When he got to the house he stopped a few feet short of the steps, stumbling out of his flight he composed his standing only to wheeze in a surprising level of exhaustion. Collecting the air in his lungs a few times he went up the stairs. The customer opened the door with a pen in hand. Matt still a bit winded sputtered out "Got it here as fast as I could, sorry ah-" He fumbled around in his pockets to get the slip and his whole core went cold realizing that he forgot it at the store "Oh no!" His face turned red with embarrassment as he had to back up a bit "I'll ah- i'll be back in a second I swear I forgot the slip! I'm so very sorry I'll just-" He turned and before the customer could open their mouth to say 'it's alright?' WHOOSH! Out into the air, he went to head back.
Matt noticed Caraco on his way back, speeding as quickly as he could through the streets as they approached the store. He looked just as shocked- oh thank goodness he wasn't the only one who forgot. They ran through the doors to see Liz holding out their slips. Matt breathlessly asked "h-how did you-" To which she cut him off with "I heard the sonic boom from you two, you goobers- Well actually I just knew it wouldn't be very long before Y'all came back so- ya know." He said, using her other hand to quickly bat the both of them on the side of the head very lightly "cmon tiger you don't forget these! And Cara, you need to remember to grab these! Customers don't always wanna hear 'oh I forgot'! I swear you two, get phones or something for me to text you! Now go! go! don't you have a race to do?!" She said, shooing them, causing them to run right back out the door in a panic.
Matt finished the first delivery- thankfully the customer wasn't actually upset by the botched delivery. And thanks to his aura the order was still really warm when he got there. When he sped off in another direction for the other order he double checked that it was a Zeni order instead of an online order. Yup- he didn't forget another slip it was in fact only Zeni! That's good! Though he had to admit, firing off his energy at the max potential for so long was exhausting. While when he trained with Pieter he was restraining himself for nuance, he didn't know that firing off at all cylinders would be so intense! Though in retrospect it made sense. Anyhow! getting into the colder region of the city, he realized flying with the orders would cool them too much even with his aura muffling the cold. He'd have to find a way to make it warmer in his aura. [How'd I even do that??? If I tried to use energy balls or something like that I'd torch the order! I can't let that happen- wait! Of course!] While he was speeding towards the general direction, he manipulated his energy to try to make energy balls all around his aura, heating the area with him in it passively, though this, of course, slowed him down, and caused the drain to his stamina become exponential. Thankfully he didn't need to do this for long, he soon needed to land- dissipating the orbs of energy and landing. realizing that he was matted with sweat due to the heat and exertion. He knocked on the or, and quickly made the exchange. Though this time he sat on the curb, fanning himself with his hand to try to chill himself out, as well as regain some stamina. "How does Caraco ever even do this?! This is a living nightmare to go this hard for this long" He chuckled a bit. Standing up and adjusting his pants before speeding right back towards the store.
As he got back to the store, he didn't see Caraco, oh thank goodness. He didn't have to do dishes. He walked into the store, and waved to Liz, catching his breath. He walked to the employee bathroom and wiped his face off with a towel he got for this kind of situation. He walked out, and to the back where he'd drain the water for Caraco to start with not dirty soapy water. Though he was shocked to see Caraco already inside- and draining the water "Heyo! Sorry, you were late buddy, I got here like two minutes ago! It's alright, there aren't too many dishes. I'll be sweepin' in the front" He grins and pats a paralyzed matt on the shoulder. Who just stood there, too surprised to speak, though when he finally could all he could muster out is "I- You- WH-WHAT H-HOW"
