A chaotic kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, and sensations assaulted Grail's mind from all sides; the concepts he had come to accept as facts were ripped away from him as he fell endlessly upwards through a solid sky made of clear flames. He felt as if he was everywhere, every-when, and yet nowhere or when simultaneously. The terrible amount of sensory information he received , much of it contradictory, was threatening to crush his psyche from its impact. He would have screamed for mercy if he had a mouth; if he had lungs! He was a tiny speck of potential thrown onto the endless ocean of the chaos that surrounded the entirety of existence, where the rules of reality did not apply and where the concepts of space and time were a passing thought at best.
Grail might have languished under that horrible endless potential for an eternity and a day, or perhaps a mere second, but blessedly, oh so blessedly, he came to the realization that he was falling. Not the endless tumble of chaos, but in a singular direction; the rules of reality coming back to bear. Grail was falling back into existence, and he managed to get a tiny flash of green before a great purple burst of energy swallowed up his entire being...
= - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = - =
The Quiet Plains. A place of serenity suitable for meditation, training, or just relaxing away from the cares of the impending Saiyan Invasion. At least under normal conditions; just then it was a little louder than quiet due to a certain disturbance...
The disturbance had started as a mere speck of magical power emanating from a point located within the shadow of a mountainous plateau that tended to dot the Namekian environment. It couldn't be sensed by those without magical skill, at least at first, but no doubt a few of the more mystical Dragon Caste might pick up on it, let alone members of the Mazoku. It would however grow from a single point, a deep purple energy slowly expanding, tendrils of energy latching onto everything in sight as if to anchor something. Mere minutes after first coming into existence the magical emanation had grown a thousand fold in size and intensity, and even normal Ki-users would be able to sense its power, fluctuating wildly from a tiny blip to a vast ocean of power that would put even the strongest Warrior Caste member on edge.
The purple energies would swirl lazily in a counterclockwise circle, appearing to do so from any angle it was viewed from, and the tendrils roamed out further and further. The magical energy fluctuations were becoming extreme now; the energies beating on the air, distorting images, pulling in light towards the center, a small orb of blackness.
By now there would surely be someone there to investigate this anomaly; whether it be Namekians or otherwise, it seemed to purposefully draw attention here. It had been nearly an hour since this anomaly had started, plenty of time for those who had interest to show their faces. Suddenly, the portal, for portal it was, would collapse in upon itself, the tendrils vanishing into purple wisps that faded into nothing, the black orb depositing something onto the barren ground.
It was a man, or, at least, something humanoid in shape. It was drenched in shadows, the shadow of the plateau deepening around the creature, embracing them. Yet some features could still be viewed. A pale grey hair, dull red eyes set deep into their sockets, short yet pointed ears, a gaunt and sickly looking face, dark leathers atop white clothing, in the left hand a tome of dubious magics, in the right a petrified wooden staff, and at the waistline a sword and sheath belted tight.
For a long moment the man would stand completely still, the energies of his transportation spell still surrounding him, but as they dissipated and his true power level was revealed he would fall forward onto his hands and knees, barely holding onto the staff in his right hand, and he would retch violently. A thick and oily black substance that was mixed with fresh red blood would spill out onto the ground, the man heaving violently for nearly a minute before he could stop himself.
Grail, his body wracked with pain, would take a shuddering breath, trying to rise to his feet by using his staff for support, but his legs unable to rise to the task. Giving up on this idea for the moment, Grail would look around dully at those that had gathered nearby, seeing yet not seeing them, ”Where...did I end up? This is not anywhere on Konats I know...damn... I knew the spell was beyond me... yet... at least I live...”

''Rhytid, RHYTID! RHYTID YOU GOTTA COME SEE THIS!!''
A chipper voice called out from the distance. Rhytid rustled in his seat, gazing up from an ancient tome about Namekian history. His sights slowly gazed up, staring out infront him for a small moment. Finally, Rhytid got up from his chair with a sigh, and moved to his window. ''What- what is it? I'm kinda busy...-'' His head peaked out from the window, seeing an all-too-familiar Dragon Caste mystic gaze up at him with a difficult look. ''Athora...''
''I swear this is serious! I found some wicked cool dimensional rift in the Quiet Plains! Totally might be dangerous, but it looks AWESOME! But- uh, you should come...check it, for safety...!'' Athora then gulped, averting his gaze from the older Namekian. ''Before it blows up and kills half the planet...''
''Wait, what was that last part?'' Rhytid's eyes lowered into a suspicious slit, catching a concerned yelp from the Mystic! ''N-NOTHING! Just, please, come check it out!'' Athora begged in a concerned tone, beads of sweat running from the young mystic's face. Rhytid honestly wasn't sure what to think. 'Dimensional rift'...What was that even supposed to mean? Sounded dangerous, though...
Rhytid let out a long sigh. ''Fine, I'll go check out this 'rift'...'' He nodded toward the Dragon Clansman, not really having the greatest of expectations. Athora's 'discoveries' usually lead to disappointments anyway. But, maybe- just maybe...
Maybe this time it was genuine...?
The flight was a short one. Knowing Namek like the back of your hand came in handy, especially when 'Everything looked the bloody same', as many travellers liked to complain about. Athora and Rhytid flew side by side, Athora a few feet ahead, leading Rhytid to this...'Rift'.
And sure enough, after a few more minutes of floating around...There it was.
Rhytid's eyes were wide with awe as they inched closer and closer to the expanding magical anomaly. The Warrior's lips twitched in frightened uncertainty- what in the hell was he looking at?! ''See?! I told you It was for realsies!'' Athora let out, sending a sudden glance toward the taller Namekian.
''Athora...This looks dangerous. VERY dangerous.'' Rhytid spoke sternly, carefully observing the ever-expanding void that stretched before his very eyes. Athora hummed in response, surprisingly sounding quite serious himself. ''It might be...I've read up on dimensional tears, but this one looks...off. Dark.'' Athora gulped.
Rhytid breathed deeply, with a light stutter to it. His eyes hastily glanced toward the Namekians that continued to gather around the rift, all seeming just as concerned as he was. This dark portal- it simply reeked of foul energies. Just how sure could Rhytid be that it wouldn't start consuming everything in its path...!?
''EVERYONE, GET OUT OF HERE! RIGHT NOW!''
With a powerful shout, Rhytid turned to face the group of Namekians, waving a hand to his side fiercely. ''Get as far away from this thing as possible!'' Rhytid continued, his tone filled with such passionate concern that all the Namekians took his words to heart. The group quickly scattered, hesitantly returning from where they came. Rhytid turned back to face the portal, muscles and veins in his arms beginning to quake...
''R-Rhytid...What are you doing...?'' Athora took a cautious step backwards. ''I'm going to put an end to that thing before it can do anything!'' Rhytid replied confidently, his white, burning aura flaring to life. The Warrior raised a hand and pointed it toward the portal, aiming to destroy it...!
''RHYTID, NO! YOU'LL OVERLOAD IT WITH ENERGY! IT'LL EXPLODE AND MURDER US BOTH!''
''DESTRUCTION WA...!-''
Suddenly, the dark portal sucked itself back in- and imploded it on itself right before their eyes! ''...Ve...?'' Rhytid slowly powered down, a look of confusion crossing his face. ''What just...?''
''Oh- oh thank Porunga...'' Athora let out a deep sigh, slouching over as he sputtered his lips. ''I swear, RhyRhy, you're gonna doom us all someday...!''
Rhytid wanted to respond to Athora's words, yet his attention was captured by a whirring hum from the disappeared portal. Some final remnants of the Dimensional Rift caught his eye- and he cautiously watched the anomaly spit out something, shrouded in shadow. Rhytid could sense it though- under those shadows...Someone. A person.
''...Hello?'' Rhytid called out, but received no anwser. It all felt very...Concerning. The figure suddenly fell over, gasping for air- as if he suddenly jumped back to life! ''OOOOH!! IT WAS A PORTAL! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!'' Athora shouted passionately as Rhytid rushed over to help the wounded stranger. He just vomited out a glob of blood! ''Hey, you alright...? Can you move?!''
''Right right! A portal- why didn't I think of it before...!? Then again, portals are also kiiiinda dimensional ri-''
''ATHORA GET OVER HERE AND HEAL THIS GUY ALREADY!''
Athora yelped loudly, instantly smacking himself out of his passionate rambling. The Dragon Clansman huddled over and threw himself to the ground, sliding to a crouch right next to the Konatsian. ''One batch of healing, comin' up!'' Two hands were outstretched near the Konatsian's body, and would began mending his internal and external wounds.
While Athora would tend to the stranger's wounds, Rhytid would help keep him somewhat upright. ''That looked pretty damn dangerous, buddy.'' Rhytid sighed out. ''You do know spaceships exist, right?''
Rhytid's face would scrunch up in disbelief- memory flashing back to that portal. It really didn't sit well with him.
''...Also, question-''
''What the hell even WAS that thing that spat you out...? Did you create that?''

The pain was beginning to fade somewhat, although Grail still could taste the fresh blood he had just vomited up. His spell had been a success however! Sort of. It was obvious Grail had gone a hell of a lot farther than from one point on Konats to another. There was nowhere on Konats that was this green or blue, and if Grail was not fearing an impending personal disaster he would have enjoyed having a look at his surroundings. He could still feel the weakening of the Kashvar magics on his body, the monster within him already trying to tear its way out into physical form!
Groaning from his pain Grail suddenly felt a burst of magical energy incredibly close, and he looked down to see Athora utilzing his healing technique on him. A moment later he felt a hand on his shoulder, trying to support him, and his head slowly turned to look at Rhytid. Grail had never seen or even heard of Namekians, so it was easy to understand why he might seem a bit confused. Namekians did look like a combination between a slug, human, and tree after all, and it was very disorienting to suddenly have two of them so close, yet Grail was too exhausted from his transport spell to resist very much. His eyes, a dull red, would stare into Rhytid's eyes as if looking for something, searching for some quality in Rhytid. He found it, for the light of sapience was in the Namekian's eyes.
Rhytid would be treated to a most peculiar series of looks passing across Grail's face in rapid succession. His initial bemusement and confusion would soon give way to recognition as he realized that Rhytid and Athora were sapient people, and for a small moment his lips would turn upward in the start of a smile, his lips beginning to part to respond to what Rhytid had said earlier. Yet a thought would cross Grail's mind, and the smile would be crushed under a spreading look of horror, anguish, and regret that could be found on someone who had accidentally done something terrible.
His voice full of growing fear Grail would mumble the words, ”No! Why did it have to be this way?!” as he feebly tried to wrestle himself away from Athora and Rhytid. If they would not let him go immediately he would growl in frustration, a surge of dark magical energy bursting forth, but with no violent intent, merely pushing the duo away from him as Grail shouted in a ragged scream, ”Away from me!”
Once he was free, whether by the Namekians letting him go or by forcing them to back away, Grail would immediately collapse back to the ground, beginning to hack and wheeze, bringing up more of the oily black substance he had vomited before. Curiously, the only thing that remained of Grail's earlier retching was the blood; the previous substance was gone, and they would receive the reason why as the black substance seemed to evaporate right into the air. As if it couldn't handle the environment.
It took a few moments before Grail could control himself again, and he glared at Rhytid fiercely; with intent to intimidate, but lacking true hostility, ”Leave me! Run as far as you can. You're not strong enough to handle what comes next. Run, or you will die...” Grail trailed off as the hacking cough took him again, pulled down to his hands and knees as more and more of the thick black gunk spewed onto the grass.

''...''
The weird stranger that was spat out the portal was awfully quiet. Confusion and regretful emotions were stuck on his face like cement, the weirdest of stares looking over the vicinity. Truth be told, Rhytid couldn't blame the guy- he was JUST as confused, if not more so! Then again, he was the one that suddenly teleported onto this planet, and that couldn't have been a mere coincidence. So, how did he end up here, really...?
''You alright? I asked you something...'' Rhytid spoke in a suspicious voice, narrowing his eyes at the strange Konatsian giving Athora and him strange looks. Athora shuffled, raising a disappointed brow toward Rhytid as he continued to work his magic. ''Wow, cut the guy some slack, Rhy! He just got yanked through space-time! That's some serious bizz', y'know?'' He scolded the ignorant warrior, sending him a disapproving look. Rhytid didn't know jack squat about magic- so all he could do was sit there in bewilderment, shrugging his shoulders lightly.
A brief silence washed over the group, nly the noise of Athora's healing waves filling the air. A low hum, and nothing more. Rhytid felt increasingly...Concerned. SOMETHING just wasn't right here, but he didn't know what. It all felt so...strange.
Looking back down, Rhytid saw the faint smile from the Konatsian suddenly warp into an expression of fear and regret! It was as if he suddenly came to his senses- realizing something terrible. The stranger attempted to wrestle away from the two, with Athora immediately letting go- but Rhytid wasn't as easy to convince! ''What are you hidi-GHAA!''
The two Namekians were blown back by a shockwave of dark energies. Tumbling a few feet away, Rhytid landed back on his feet with finesse, yet Athora wasn't as agile, and faceplanted right into the grass!
''What the hell is his problem...!?'' Rhytid snarled under his breath, muscles tensing up in anticipation. ''R-Rhy...'' Athora moaned quietly, stumbling forward to meet the Namekian by his side. The stranger spewed out more of the oily tar onto the ground- emanating with an ominous darkness. ''I...Don't have a good feeling about this...'' Athora gulped loudly, shaking fiercely. ''You and me both...''
The stranger suddenly sent a fierce glare toward the Warrior, who instinctively held out a hand to push Athora back. Rhytid returned the glare, listening to his intimidation with an unwavering look of confidence. He scoffed loudly, clenching his hands into tight fists.
''Is that supposed to be a threat, elf-man!?'' Rhytid shouted back, gritting his teeth against one-another. ''I don't know what your deal is, stranger, nor do I care! IF you so much as try to lay a finger on my people, you're going to wish you never set foot on this planet in the first place!'' The Warrior snarled toward the Konatsian. Rhytid had always been extremely protective of this place, this entire planet...He wasn't afraid to fight for it. Even if the stranger made it sound like he couldn't control what would come next, Rhytid didn't seem to show any sympathy. His body was quaking with the resolve to protect his people from whatever this guy was, and it was all he could think of currently.
''Athora, get out of here right now...I don't want you to get injured.''
''B-But...Rhytid...-''
''GO! NOW!''

The Namekians wouldn't listen! The taller one refused to leave, although he at least had sense enough to send away his smaller compatriot. That was one less life that would be on his conscious, Grail thought with a hint of relief, but it was swallowed up in the bitter thoughts of the life he believed he was going to end today. Why did his spell fling him to this place where there were people?!
Retching still more of the oily black shadows onto the ground Grail managed to lean forward and grab his fallen staff, taking it in both hands and pulling it closer to him. His body shuddered a few times as he managed to stop vomiting, and with the shadowy substance still leaking from his mouth, Grail spoke to Rhytid, his voice full of anguish. ”I didn't want to come here...I had to escape the place I was before; to preserve my chance of ridding myself of what is about to happen...
“My spell brought me here instead of where I intended...”
Groaning from the pain of moving Grail would try once again to stand using his staff, again unable to stand on his own, his limbs shaking in feeble effort. Sighing, Grail would simply wipe the shadowstuff from his lips with the sleeve of his shirt, where it would evaporate from the white cotton leaving no stain. He gave a great inhale, preparing words to explain his regrets,”A terrible beast is sealed within me, but the seal is weakening, and I cannot contain it for much longer. Soon I will instead be sealed within the beast, at least for a time.”
Suddenly Grail realized that he had managed to stand up; far faster than he was normally capable, his right hand gripping his staff in a vice-grip. It was starting. The weakness of Grail's body was due to it fighting to contain the Nightwalker within itself, when the seals weakened and the monster was ready to burst free, Grail's body would quickly gain an unnatural strength and agility for the few moments before he was sealed inside. His left arm would rise to his neck, and he would twist it, the sound of grating bone against bone easily heard as Grail adjusted himself into a more comfortable position. Standing to his full height Grail would be able to look even the tall Namekian in the eyes without craning his neck.
The shadow of the plateau they were standing in began to deepen, coalescing around and clinging to Grail's form, beginning to wash out his features as they all faded towards blackness. Grail would continue to stare at Rhytid, locking eyes with him with his own eyes still filled with regret and anguish. ”I never wanted to bring this calamity upon you, or anyone else...”
If the Namekian looked closely he would be able to see the struggle going on within Grail's eyes, the light of consciousness fighting to remain but slowly being dragged down, the light leaving Grail's eyes completely as he said his last conscious words, ”I beg for...your forgive...nesssss...”
The dull red eyes lost the last vestiges of consciousness, the light leaving them and even the color of the eyes began to deepen, the white sclera and red iris beginning to darken towards the same blackness of the pupil. The shadows continued to coalesce around Grail's body and it even seemed that shadows began to ooze out of his very skin, coating his form and completely subduing his features and form. For a few moments a pitch-black humanoid would stand before Rhytid, unmoving, before it would to distort and shift itself. The human proportions were corrupted and shifted into something more...pliable, and the shadows continues to coalesce and grow, the Shadowy humanoid beginning to grow as well. Rhytid would be able to feel as Grail's Ki aura would also be corrupted and changed, beginning to shoot up at an alarming rate.
The surface of the shadows bubbled like boiling water as the substance writhed and stretched ever larger, quickly topping Rhytid in height and continuing to grow ever larger. Soon even the Namekian's favored Ajissa trees were dwarfed by the creature's size, and it topped out at over forty foot in height at the shoulder, with the head of the beast adding a few more feet. The growth slowed and stopped, the bubbling of the shadows slowed as the form of the creature became a little less amorphous, settling into an oddly-proportioned humanoid shape. It looked something close to an ape in proportions with long arms that were big and bulky and a great broad torso, but the legs and feet were strangely long, looking out of place with the upper body. Great claws were present on the five fingers of the creature's hands, and a maw full of razor sharp teeth was the only detail discernible on its head.
And the Power! The sickly looking form of Grail had a mere twenty-thousand units in scouter units, but as the form of the beast settled down the creature would have something close to ten times that much, completely eclipsing Rhytid's own power in his normal form. The sensation of the beast's aura was almost sickening to people who hadn't felt the power of a Demon before, and even Rhytid who had been in contact with the Mazoku and their demonic allies might feel a little nauseous. Maybe.
Most Demons had a similar aura to the Nightwalker, but it was restrained; shackled by their sapience and intelligence, their purpose and control. The Nightwalker was not a sapient creature; it was an apex predator that lived only to hunt and consume, and its Demonic aura was Raw, Unfettered, Wild. Shadow Demons were pure nightmare fuel for most creatures; they were the boogeymen in your closet, the monsters hiding under the bed, the real reason people were afraid of the dark, and the Nightwalker was King among Shadow Demons. Most demonologists were smart enough to never try dealing with one, because those who weren't ended up dead and eaten.
The Nightwalker would raise both of its arms, the eyeless head staring at its limbs, flexing the hands and fingers as if getting used to the sensation of being able to do so, and then it would look up at its surroundings. The head would turn side to side, and at one point it would make a single step to turn itself to look behind itself, a dull boom assaulting the ears of anyone nearby. It was just the sound of the footstep, the earth cracked and dented where the beast had stepped, giving testament that the creature weighed as much as it appeared, that it was not some illusion.
Finally, the creature would turn its head back towards the Namekians, as if finally realizing they were there, and it would stare at them, silent, motionless. A sense of hunger spreading out from its form...what was about to happen?

The Namekian's gaze was unwavering. Deep, dark eyes glaring into the injured Konatsian's own. Rhytid was like an animal, unafraid to fight for his own territory if anyone dared tread upon it with ill intent. And surprise surprise, ill intent was OOZING from this Konatsian. Literally.
Even Rhytid could feel the unparalleled darkness spewing from the dark goop. And if someone with no mastery in the arts of magic whatsoever could sense its nature...Then it had to be something intense.
His muscles flexed in preparation, half-anxiously waiting for whatever 'was about to happen', as the stranger worded it. Despite his confident pose and expression, Rhytid felt like something wasn't quite right. Like something truly terrible was about to happen...
A scoff came from his lips as the Konatsian tried to defend himself. ''How convenient, so now you're dooming US with whatever you're hiding instead...?!'' Rhytid snarled, heartbeat only growing more intense by the second. His eyes continued to bore into the fragile-looking Konatsian. Deep down, the Namekian felt a bit conflicted. He knew he was more than likely speaking the truth, and he did feel a shred of sympathy...But it didn't change the fact that the Konatsian was threatening his planet with whatever he was hiding.
But then, suddenly, the secrets were revealed.
''A...Beast?'' Rhytid parroted lowly, brow rising curiously. Well, this suddenly became a lot more serious. The Konatsian he could handle easily, but who knew how strong this sealed beast was? Could Rhytid defeat it? ''...Just my luck.'' Rhytid grumbled under his breath, seeing the stranger fully rise to his feet for the first time.
Shadows were torn from their position, sucked in by the Konatsian's own. It was as if he consumed the light itself, and only left darkness in his path. This beast...Whatever it was, Rhytid wasn't looking forward to facing it. He was lucky he had faced demons before, as such the darkness he felt wasn't as bone-chilling.
The Konatsian's voice- his tone...It was enough for Rhytid to know he was sincere. Still, he couldn't allow some evil demon to run rampant on his planet. ''I understand. I'm sorry I have to do this...'' Rhytid raised an arm by his side, and clenched it tightly. ''I'll try to make it as painless as possible.'' The Namekian let out a short breath, a stern look on his face. He really didn't want to fight someone like this, but he had no choice.
Rhytid gazed into the conflicted eyes of the Konatsian- it wasn't hard to see his internal struggle. Rhytid could only imagine the torment he was experiencing. The Namekian took in another deep breath, and averted his gaze as the stranger let out his final words. His lips trembled in building anger, eyes gazing back up to meet the shadowy entity.
''...''
His lips were pulled back in a hateful snarl, seeing the creature continue to bubble and ooze shadow left and right. Rhytid remained silent as the creatures Ki began to climb at an intense rate, soon even surpassing Rhytid's own! Its size began to amplify as well, steadily taking on a more tangible form until it stood at a towering height. The ape-like proportions, and the continuous swelling of unfettered dark energies were enough to make Rhytid's skin crawl. This was unlike any Demon he's seen before...Atleast they had some sanity to them.
''So this is what you were hiding...'' Rhytid hissed under this breath, feeling out the beast's energy. Luckily it wasn't anything that truly threatened Rhytid's life. If this had happened a month earlier, Rhytid would have a much tougher battle on his hands. As the beast stared at him, Rhytid scoffed loudly.
His fists clenched tightly at his sides, limbs beginning to tremble as the Namekian slouched over, calling forth all of his inner power!
''GhhhrooooooOOOOOAAAA!!!''
The intense roar filled the Quiet Plains for miles, the volume of Rhytid's voice only amplifying as his physical size did the same! The Namekian continued to grow and grow, cracking the very ground under him with his intense weight and power! Before long, Rhytid's size and power would completely rival the shadowy demon's perfectly!
''It's been a while since someone has pushed me enough to use this form...You should take pride in your inevitable defeat.'' Rhytid scoffed in an overpowering, loud tone. His words were probably in vain, but Rhytid always honored his opponents, no matter how demonic or evil they might be.
His gaze flicked to the side, fixated on a tiny green speck floating in the sky. ''Athora!'' Rhytid shouted, ''I want you to evacuate any nearby villages! I'll keep this THING busy for the time being!'' Rhytid waved an arm to the side, his aura springing to life as he looked back towards the demonic entity. He couldn't risk villagers being harmed under their colossal might.
''Y-Y-YES SIR, SIRREE! WILL DO...! PLEASE DON'T DIE!'' Athora screeched in pure, adrenaline-filled terror, quickly zooming to the nearest village he could find!
Rhytid's footing shifted, raising his arms into his traditional fighting stance. ''Well, you freak, are you hungry!?!'' Rhytid shouted, gesturing for the beast to come at him. ''Why don't you come get some then?!''

The Nightwalker remained completely silent and still as Rhytid reacted to its presence, power, and sickening aura. It did not seem to react either to Rhytid's goading or to his sudden increase in size and power; merely continuing to stare at him...and at Athora. The malevolent gaze would sweep over the two Namekians, weighing them up with a Predator's expertise. Which one was going to be more trouble to deal with? Which one would satiate its hunger the best? Of course the one who had grown to match its own girth was bound to be a great struggle, but it also had a great deal of flesh to it for the Nightwalker to gorge upon. Yet the smaller one was an adept, and at Light magics at that! The shadows always flee from the light while hating it, and when a Shadow Demon could devour a source of light it brought great pleasure to them. That was the nature of their existence.
Either choice was frankly appetizing to the monster, either the feast of a Namekian before him or the fleeing mage. The beast seemed frozen with trying to decide which target it should go for, only its sense of growing hunger spreading out, becoming more intense. The clawed hands flexed almost spasmodically, and it slowly flicked out a long black tongue like a serpent's, licking its lips in expectancy of its coming meal. Eerily enough, despite the creature's actions showing it a bloodthirsty beast waiting to start the hunt, it made no noise. No sound was uttered from it, and even the points where the clawed hands would brush against one another would not make the expected clicking noise of claw against claw. The only sound was as it shifted its weight, the sound of shifting earth beneath could be heard.
Finally the beast seemed to have come to a decision in its animal mind, and it stared more closely at Rhytid, its claws flexing once more, readying itself for action. Its next movement would come suddenly, with every ounce of speed the creature could muster, the spindly legs of the creature twisting and turning, spinning the creature on the spot rapidly. The great claws would extend and dig deep into the ground, digging great furrows in the grassy earth and flinging a copious amount of sand and dust into the air, beginning to cover the area and obscuring the view of both Rhytid and the Nightwalker itself.
The Nightwalker was, after all, an ambush predator first and foremost. Facing an equally powerful foe in open combat was not its way. It hunted through deception and cunning, and the growing cloud of dust and sand was the most basic of its tactics, forced upon it by the manner in which it had ended up facing Rhytid. Had the beast had time to hunt in its usual manner Rhytid might not have ever known the beast was there.
With the cloud having grown high enough to completely hide the Nightwalker from view, and the earth having been suitably prepared it began the next step of its tactic. From Rhytid's perspective the spreading cloud would merely shift in an odd way, the beast within moving, but suddenly a grand sized boulder, easily twenty meters in diameter, would be flung with incredible force straight for the Great Namekian's skull. The Nightwalker's gorilla like form certainly had some uses it seemed, as the thrown boulder, which was actually the ground beneath the Nightwalker that it had carved free with its claws, was shot with such force it seemed to ignore gravity.
The important part of the thrown boulder however was not its girth or speed, but the angle at which it had been thrown at Rhytid. The Nightwalker had taken the position and angle such that the boulder would fly right at Rhytid's head, and if it was not stopped or deflected in some manner it would continue on, sailing far off into the same distance that Athora was currently fleeing towards. The power of the little Namekian mage was paltry compared to either the beast or Rhytid himself; surely that frail body would be crushed beyond recognition by such a massive projectile?
Not one to sit on its laurels the Nightwalker would launch itself forward out of the dustcloud as well, relying on its Energy sensing to properly locate the giant Namekian's form and position, and it would rush forward, running forward in a low stance as if to attack Rhytid's leg on their left side, conveniently opposite of the side of Rhytid the thrown boulder would aim for. What would Rhytid do in this case?
[OOC: Apologies. Nightwalker is far from honorable in combat!]

The beast and the (slug)man were locked into an intense staring contest, gazes focussed on eachother as both didn't utter a single word, nor made a single noise. Rhytid's taunting seemed to have no effect whatsoever, the giant beast simply continuing to just...Stare at him.
Although Rhytid knew fully well that he held a lot more power than the beast, he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable as the silence carried on. The Namekian's guard was raised, expecting the beast to strike out with animalistic vigor at any second now...But it simply didn't happen.
At every slight movement the beast made, every twitch it's fingers made, and every glance it took, Rhytid's uneasiness increased. The Warrior hadn't blinked once ever since he raised his guard, his focus greater than it had ever been. When was it going to act? WOULD it ever act...? The wind rushed through his ears, the cold breeze sending an uneasy chill down his spine.
''Move.'' Rhytid thought, teeth plucking at the flesh inside of his cheeks impatiently. ''Move already!'' He only continued to grow more frustrated and uneasy, his guard starting to waver, fists shaking as his breathing became ragged. ''...Damn this beast! Why won't it attack!?''
But then finally, just as Rhytid himself was about to lash out with his own attack, the beast finally made a move!
Yet instead of attacking Rhytid, the create dug its lengthy claws into the dirt below, tossing up chunks of earth and sand and spreading them around wildly! For a moment the Namekian hesitated, yet as the thick cloud of earthen dust began to settle around the two, Rhytid realized what the creature's tactics were. ''Clever bastard...!''
Rhytid kept close tabs on the Nightwalker's energy signature, trying not to rely on his eyesight, moreso his other senses. Surely it would dive out of the dust any second new, claws ready to tear open his neck like a savage tiger...All he had to do was wait, and be ready to counter.
The earth rustled, and Rhytid's fists twitched.
Expecting the shadowy monster to leap out at him, Rhytid's guard raised, yet what he did not expect was for a giant boulder of stone to be launched at him! Unable to sense the stone projectile, he was only barely able to weave his head out of the way, the gigantic stone whizzing by his ears, only an inch removed!
''Cowardly little...So you want to play like that, h-'' Silence. Only now did he realize what the Nightwalker was truly aiming for...His eyes widened at the realization.
''OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD AAA-''
With a fierce roar, Rhytid twisted his body with vigor, extending an arm over his shoulder which shot out like a rope, quickly gaining speed on the flung boulder. Only a few feet removed from slamming into Athora and possibly killing him, Rhytid's arm had caught up, and latched onto the rock, fingers digging deep inside of the stone!
''Th...WH..- Holy CRAP-'' Athora croaked out, letting out a huge sigh before quickly dipping away once more, glad he didn't piss himself.
Rhytid was sweating bullets, quickly yanking his arm back once more- the beast was still lurking somewhere in the dust! His arm reeled back in, yet from his blind spot, the Warrior heard movements, and sensed the Nightwalker's energy close in on him!
He quickly gazed over his shoulder, but he was too late! The Nightwalker lashed out, its sharp claws tearing through his leg like butter, leaving deep bleeding gashes. A loud, booming groan of pain echoed through the Quiet Plains, and Rhytid's knee buckled weakly...Yet this was his chance, the beast was exposed!
''C-Cheap son of a bitch- EAT THIS!'' The Namekian roared, swinging his body back with his still-elongated arm raised high. In a quick burst of speed, Rhytid brought down his arm violently, intending to slam the boulder that was thrown at him right on the beast's head!
Whether or not the attack actually hit, Rhytid was FAR from done with this bone-chilling monstrosity. The Namekian brought up his injured leg in a swift motion, intending to slam his knee right into the Nightwalker's chest! Hopping off the ground with the attempted knee, Rhytid extended his other leg fully, aiming to punt the beast right on the chin to send it flying!
In the back of his mind, Rhytid was nervous- would he actually be able to hold this animal off long enough for Athora to evacuate the nearby villages? He only knew how to fight other martial artists...Something this dishonorable, something THIS wild and uncontrolled...How would he read its movements? What would it do next?
No techs used!

If the Nightwalker had the ability to laugh or even the concept of amusement in its mind, it surely would have found hilarity in how easy it had been to get a strike on the powerful Namekian. That was how a predator thought though. How to use a parent's weaker offspring against it to provide an opportunity to feast! The Nightwalker's strike against Rhytid's limb was successful, but although it had drawn blood the wound wasn't deep enough to completely cripple the limb completely, and the Nightwalker knew it had failed its objective.
This failure was made abundantly clear by the same boulder that the Nightwalker had thrown being used against it now, the massive chunk of stone and dirt gripped tightly in Rhytid's fist as it flew back through the air, heading straight towards the Nightwalker's position. Yet it's swipe of Rhytid's leg was never meant to be its main attack in the first place, but an opportunistic slash as it passed by. Already moving at higher speeds it was easy for the Nightwalker to just...slip around the falling boulder by shifting it's weight to the side. Of course the move was only possible because of how flexible its body was, and Rhytid would no doubt get the sense that the Nightwalker had moved like a serpent just then. The boulder slammed into the ground with enough force to shake the ground, but the boulder itself crumbled into rocks too small to be effective weapons against creatures of Rhytid and the Nightwalker's size.
However the Nightwalker was not going to be able to escape without suffering no damage at all, for before it could get its weight fully under itself to prepare for attack or defense Rhytid had Hammered the Gap. He had forced open its guard with the boulder strike, and had already prepared a move to capitalize on that small opening, his injured leg's knee striking the Nightwalker in the chest. The strike was heavy, knocking the creature backwards and upwards, its feet losing purchase with the ground for just a moment, the wind knocked from the creature's lungs. Well, that is; if it had lungs. The Nightwalker was an amorphous mass of demonic energies and primordial Shadowstuff; there was no anatomy to it. So the strike which should have caused it to double over gasping for air did little more than cause a bit of pain and anger it.
The difference in anatomy would mean that the Nightwalker was far more prepared for Rhytid's second strike, the front kick aimed for its jaw, than the Namekian would have hoped for. For when the raised foot delivering the kick was about to strike the jaw of the Nightwalker the beast's features...distorted. The jaw suddenly opened up several times wider than its anatomy should have allowed, the maw filled with row upon row of serrated, jagged teeth, and finally a vicious energy would reach Rhytid's senses at the same time. Necrotic black flames filled with a deep malice would fill up the creature's maw, and in an instant those jaws would snap shut, attempting to grip tightly against Rhytid's leg!
Assuming the chomp was successful the beast wouldn't end there, using it's backwards motion and Rhytid's own forward motion together to drag Rhytid up off the ground as it retreated with his leg in its mouth, and with a sudden twist of its entire body would attempt to swing Rhytid around by the leg and send him flying into the plateau they had been battling near! The chomping motion would be finished just as the beast would reach the apex of its swinging motion, attempting to bite Rhytid's lower leg off and letting the spinning force fling the Namekian towards its intended target.
If such events would occur the Nightwalker would quickly shred the severed foot in its mouth before swallowing the gobbets of flesh greedily, licking its face clean of any purple Namekian blood that lingered, and then it would turn its attention back to.. Athora!
Thinking its previous opponent was in no condition to chase after it, the Nightwalker would begin a mad dash after the tiny Namekian mage, still no sounds issued from the beast other than the sound of the ground shaking as it sprinted on all fours towards the Dragon Clan member!

Rhytid's knee landed a heavy blow on the shadowy beast's chest, making the very earth around them rumble under the weight and power. The dull 'boom' echoed on for miles, causing the wildlife to flee the scene and seek hiding somewhere else. The Namekian felt confident in his abilities at that moment, surely that attack would've knocked the wind out of it, right? An easy chance to follow-up with another strike!
...Yet that is where he was sorely mistaken.
Unaware of the creature's lack of lungs, or anything organic for that matter, all his blow did was daze it a bit, yet nowhere enough for Rhytid to succeed in his assault. As Rhytid's foot lashed out, he noticed the creature's jaw start to unhinge and widen- a row of serrated, vicious teeth with his name on them. The giant's eyes widened, instincts screaming at him to pull back, yet it was too late!
'Kkkr-unch!'
The beast's mighty jaws shut around Rhytid's legs, ripping through flesh and crushing the bone, snapping it like a twig! ''G-GAAH-HHR...!'' The Warrior screamed in protest, trying to fight bag against the Nightwalker's powerful jaws, yet struggling to hold his footing in the tug of war for his own leg! The lack of balance made it hard to fight back, and Rhytid quickly found himself lifted off the ground. The beast swung the Namekian overhead like a ragdoll, yet Rhytid wouldn't let himself be defeated so easily! As he was raised into the air, Rhytid forwarded an arm, his palm hissed with energy as he readied an attack- but at the apex of the swing...!
''Destruction W-GhHAAA!''
Strands of flesh and muscle tore and snapped open as the creature bit down even harder, the sharp teeth cutting straight into his flesh. The momentum of the swing sent Rhytid careening into a nearby plateau, which quickly stopped him in his tracks. The mighty rock formation crumbled under his intense weight, yet the pain of rocks raining down on him was NOTHING compared to that of losing his damn foot!
''Why must...Every damn demonic thing I fight...Ggh- feel the need to tear off my damn LIMBS?!'' He hissed to himself, doing his best to ignore the pain as he cast off the stones covering him with a quick release of Ki. Rhytid stumbled as he tried to stand up, quickly falling back down on one knee. Eyes gazed up at the creature, happily gorging on his foot- the sight was...Disturbing, to say the least. ''Okay...That does it.'' Rhytid panted, his eyes lowering into a thick glare before all of his muscles clenched tightly. A raspy roar came from deep within, and as it reached its climax, a new foot blasted forth from the bleeding stump, covered in blood and slime.
With heavy breaths Rhytid climbed to his feet, eyes locked on the beast, yet the focus obviously wasn't mutual. Once again noting that the Nightwalker had little to no interest in Rhytid, his fists clenched. It set its sights on Athora once again, but the Warrior obviously wouldn't let the beast get anywhere close to him.
As it set off into a low sprint, Rhytid released his full power with a shock of his aura, before crossing his arms out infront of him. Palms were outstretched to opposite sides, and the Namekian focused deeply. Within moments a clone of Rhytid would emerge under a mystical hiss, power divided evenly between the two.
The Multiform technique was the pride of the Warrior Caste, something they invented and mastered throughout centuries. Rhytid was no different, and in this moment, he couldn't be more glad of all the training he did with the technique. A plan had quickly formed in his head, one that would hopefully incapacitate this terrible creature.
An arm had wrapped itself around the ankle of Rhytid's clone, who quickly blasted forth in pursuit of the Nightwalker. Meanwhile, the real Rhytid held his ground firmly, his left arm elongating more and more as the clone gained distance on the Nightwalker. Two fingers were brought up to the Namekian's forehead, which soon began sparking with an amazing power. His veins pulsated, aura continuing to rise. Never did he think he would have to use that technique, but this creature proved too dangerous...
''GET BACK HERE!'' Rhytid's clone bellowed out as it chased the being. It was on a straight beeline toward Athora, who was currently hovering above a small Namekian settlement, trying to grab the attention of the villagers. ''YOU ALL GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE! THERE'S A GIANT SHADOW-THING ON THE LOOSE, IF YOU DON'T RUN IT'S GONNA EAT ALL YA'LL!'' The Mystic screamed out, yet the villagers were mostly...confused. Before he could continue though, Athora eeped loudly, hearing heavy footsteps get closer and closer...
'"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA'' Athora had turned around, only to see the terrifying Nightwalker quickly run at him! All the villagers were quick to take notice too, and panic ensued! Yet what the villagers didn't see was a brave, gigantic Namekian behind the Nightwalker...Rhytid!
Rhytid's clone extended an arm toward the Shadowbeast, which stretched out like a grappling hook, aiming to wrap around the Nightwalker's neck and pull him back with a tight grip! If Rhytid's clone was successful in grappling the beast, the real Rhytid would take note as well, and finally pull back his own elongated arm to reel both his clone AND the Nightwalker in!
''NOT TODAY!''
Rhytid flat-out tanks the chomp, and loses his foot! [RACIAL]Regeneration used to grow it back, though [UT2]Ki Setting RELEASED! Rhytid is now fighting at full power! Errors had been made by both parties of this conflict, but unlike Rhytid who had the mental ability to adapt to his mistakes and correct them, the Nightwalker was incapable of learning how to overcome the mistakes it had made before during the same combat. The limitations of a bestial level intelligence. So the beast never thought to maintain its magical senses that detected energies, allowing Rhytid to “sneak up” on the beast as it focused all of its attention on poor Athora. Thus despite the fact that the Nightwalker had earlier created a situation where it could get the drop on Rhytid because it couldn't sense its attack, now Rhytid was in position to do the same, and the Namekian's choice was most likely the best one. Capture and retrieve instead of attack.
That long grappling hook of an arm that Rhytid's clone was using to try and loop around the beast's neck would take long in the capture, the Nightwalker closing in on Athora, its mouth still filled with vicious rows upon rows of serrated teeth ready to shred the Dragon Caste to pulp! With a great last leap into the air the Nightwalker stretched both front limbs forward, its maw open wide to try and gulp down Athora all at once, and it would reach within a dozen feet before Rhytid's elongated limbs would make the snag. Athora would be no doubt terrified by his close brush with death, but he would be treated to the emotion on the Nightwalker's face changing from triumph to confusion, the Warrior Caste Leader's arm stopping it in midair before it crashed to the ground, already being drug backwards.
The Nightwalker panicked. Having something get the drop on a Nightwalker was a very rare occurance, nothing was generally strong or stupid enough to even try, and they didn't know how to handle such a situation. It could only flail wildly, attempting to use its great claws to slash at the creature dragging it across the ground, and the earth soon looked like a battlefield, dirt and grass and mud tossed in every direction. Great furrows were dug into the ground, even a few of the crops the villagers had been working on were scattered, ruined, but even so the Nightwalker was being dragged inexorably towards Rhytid. More flames, much like the ones that the Nightwalker had used to chomp down on Rhytid's leg earlier yet much more...malevolent, began to fill up the beast's maw, its energy beginning to rise and concentrate as it started to prepare an attack to free itself from Rhytid's grasp.
