On the way to Beppa, while the others slept, Shemha trained. Even the ever present Meridia was asleep at this hour and that was exactly how the Majin wanted it. Since her appointment as Commander, she strove to take steps forward. Each way was an improvement from the last and with the fire in her stoked by the words of the Queen, her friend, she wanted to push those limits farther.
Plato was now their open enemy along with the entirety of the Mazoku Dominion. From countless fronts they faced assault, yet still the SSE pushed out to the planets around Acrose. Vennel, Kaza, Pin, Purika, and the Hofferson’s were already in the system and carrying out the will of the Empire. Her departure along with the soldiers that accompanied her delayed thanks to the unpredictable Plato, she was likely one of the last to arrive. Thankfully Pin was already on Beppa. Things were going well.
To her right, in the room that used to house all her training equipment before it moved to the Dojo, sat a screen that relayed Vennel and Kaza’s progress. Those two were…efficient to say the least. From the data transmitted so far they met resistance the moment they touched down and answered it with brutal and effective force. Casualties of the enemy already piling up, Shemha admitted to herself she was a little surprised. Her trust in the two, specifically Vennel, was limited to start, but now that she saw them moving forward with such gusto, she wanted her doubts to be wrong.
Aware of their past ties to Plato and Alistair, she decided she should reach out to them. The fool had fled Vegeta and there was no telling where he might pop up, but he was not to be trusted. Vennel and Kaza didn’t appear to need her help, but she wanted to at least offer them a warning. Mind reaching out, she felt for them and connected to their minds.
”Vennel . Majin Kaza . I shall keep this brief. Plato, the creature you helped place in power on Konats has declared himself and his people enemies of the Empire. Whatever your previous ties with him were, I suggest you cut them.” Shemha informed the two followed by a short pause. ”If he visits Acrose, crush him in the same fashion you have disposed of the Acrosian resistance thus far.” And with that, the connection was gone as she withdrew. They didn’t need her distracting them.
Left to herself once more, she turned from the screens. Vennel and Kaza looked to have it under control. She on the other hand, still lacked the control she wished over the powerful technique that was supposed to mark her as Commander, the Final Flash.
Shemha bore witness to the golden beam on Namek when Habana used it to defeat Walker. Her attempts to learn it thus far were in vain, each one including the one against Habana resulting in lack luster results. No matter what she tried, the power did not amplify like when the Queen used it. She wouldn’t give up. Now, she needed it more than ever, uncertain who she might face when she arrived on Beppa. She might need its power.
Tired, but unwilling to retire until she felt she could not continue, Shemha retook the proper stance. Arms thrust out to the sides she spread her fingers wide, taking a deep breath as she attempted to focus. In her mind’s eye she envisioned Habana across from Walker, mimicking her pose perfectly to properly channel the energy. Another deep breath and she began.
”FINAL!”
Energy crackled down her arms, the arcs of bright yellow far different than her normal attacks. Unsure if it was the stance or the process of gathering it that altered its color, she focused on pulling more forth. Eyes locked ahead on the wall across from her she summoned more power, body starting to tremble as she continued to mimic the stance she saw Habana in. Matching it perfectly was key, like following a fighting instructor’s moves to understand their specific style. Yet, the more she focused, the more she felt the power of the technique wain. Eyes closed for a moment, she faltered further as frustration began to set it, body straining until she was forced to let the energy dissipate.
With a low growl she staggered a step as her arms dropped to her sides. It was useless…
”I think you are trying too hard, Shem.” A sudden voice from the side commented, a voice the Majin knew well.
A glare met the demon as Shemha regained her composure in light of her new company. The girl was her friend, but that didn’t mean Shemha was about to let her see her so frustrated.
”I am trying hard. As hard as I can in fact and I am still doing something wrong.” She admitted as her calm visage returned.
”That is my point. You are trying too hard. From what I saw, Habana relies on her emotions in combat while you seek to restrain them. Sometimes it’s helpful to just let your body take care of itself, remove complicated thoughts from it.” Meridia offered with a shrug before leaning on the door frame. Clearly sleepy, likely woken up by the training Commander, it was strange to see the demon care at all never mind offer advice.
”That doesn’t make any sense. Without focus I cannot achieve anything. My devotion and careful control is what has won me this position.”
”Oh just try it already damnit! Let yourself go for once. Who knows, you might find that you actually like letting loose.” Meridia shot back almost cutting off the Majin.
For a moment Shemha’s eyes narrowed, but then they rolled. Internally she struggled with how to handle this. Rarely did she like to “let go” as people called it, but why would Meridia lead her down that path if she didn’t think it helpful advice? They were friends, Shemha knew it even if she wasn’t always the best at showing it. Maybe, she should just trust her for once.
Retaking her stance yet again, she took a slow breath to focus, not on the process she thought the technique required, but deeper.
”FINAL!”
Instead of to an image of Habana with her arms spread on Namek, her mind took her to the dojo. Across from her was the Queen, a woman she respected and served with all she was. Always one to respect the chain of command, Shemha couldn’t deny the warmth she felt when Habana openly included her as a member of the Empire. Not as a soldier, but an individual that mattered like any Saiyan. That moment only strengthened the Majin’s desire to protect the Empire and through that desire, anger grew towards those that would threaten it.
Walker, her tried to assassinate the Queen right in front of her after all Shemha and Accordio had done for him. Golden energy sparked down her arms.
Alistair, a demon literally and figuratively who had shot Mayze in the back, robbing his honorably death against Xylo. Power swelled within her.
Shemha brought her arms in, wrists pressed together as her hands cupped.
Plato, a man she once called friend who now disrespected her and declared the Empire his enemy. Shemha’s jaw clenched at the thought of him fleeing Vegeta.
And Xylo, the Namekian whose forces even now fought against hers, taking the lives of Saiyans across multiple planets. A Lord who she attempted to make peace with only to be insulted. Arcs of energy dances across her strained shoulders.
Walker was dead and the rest would die to. The Empire was her home, its members her family and its goals her own. All that stood in its way would meet the same end, obliteration if they refused to bend the knee and to make that a reality, Shemha would provide her strength, all of it!
”FLASH!”
Golden energy ripped forth from her hands with more power than she expected eyes wide as she realized she had actually pulled it off. Whether it was the raw emotion of the desire to see the Empire thrive, she could not tell, but the combination of the two most definitely helped her harness the technique. Panting some she looked to the door as the powerful beam dissipated into the side of the chamber, one designed to absorb arrant energy blasts, but Meridia was gone. All Shemha could do was snort. Her friend was more than she seemed…and another person Shemha wanted to protect.
Trembling some from the exertion, the Majin felt her chest heaving. The Final Flash was powerful, but it was tiring. A little light headed in fact, she took a step back before dropping to her backside on the floor. Draining…but worth every ounce of it. A grin on her face, Shemha clenched her right fist. Soon the Commander of the SSE was going to land on Beppa and the combined forces of the Mazoku Dominion and the Acrosian Empire were not going to know what hit them,
Zeni please as well as finally learning Final Flash!
