What exactly was she doing here, again? Akran couldn't even really remember her reason for wandering into the jungle, as her mind had wandered to many places on her walk through the foliage, the initial train of thought for why she'd come long lost. It was to get... Somewhere. That much Akran knew. What she didn't know was where that was. She began to feel a little nervous as she realized she'd wandered very far into the woods, and when she turned around to look behind her she saw no signs of the faint path she'd followed until it disappeared, covered up and faded away by plants and time. "...Oops," she muttered aloud to nobody but herself, before bringing her hand up to her forehead, shutting her eyes and letting out a defeated sigh. At this point she just hoped she was closer to the exit than the entrance, and so she decided to go on ahead instead of try and head back.
And after going ahead for around twenty more minutes, Akran began to regret that decision, her legs growing tired and the rest of her body really quite sweaty. She could feel her clothes beginning to stick to her skin, and giant drops of sweat impeded her vision as they dropped down from her forehead and into her eyes. She knew a tropical rainforest, or jungle or wherever she was, was going to be hot, but she didn't think it'd be this hot. She silently cursed herself for not packing water as she trudged onwards, keeping an eye out for any streams or pools of water that she could get a drink from, because Akran knew one ting for sure: she was damn thirsty.
She was almost ready to give up when, suddenly, her ears perked up and she heard something familiar. The sound of water. Not rushing water, like a river, but more some sort of gentle stream that had been splashed by an insect or a gust of wind. It was faint, but in the surprisingly quiet jungle, Akran could hear it. With newfound energy, she rushed towards it, shoving aside stems of bamboo and emerging in a clearing to an unexpected sight. A woman, much taller and more muscular than Akran, in a meditation pose, and completely buck-naked. The first two seemed logical enough to Akran, but she wasn't expecting the naked part.
"Uh," she stammered as the woman demanded to know why Akran had interrupted her. "Well," Akran started to say in an audibly hoarse and nearly breathless voice, "It's not like I," she stopped to take a breath, "knew you were here meditating," another breath, "lady." She stated the last word with a bit of spite in her tone, her temper somewhat damaged by the annoying conditions of her travel. She stopped to take a few deep breaths, then pointed at the small pond. "Look, can I just have some of that water?" She asked, looking up at the unknown woman with hopeful eyes.

Akran impatiently waited for the woman to finish speaking, currently not in the mood to wait for someone to slowly address her request for water. "Maybe I should just dive for it, then I'll at least get a few sips in before this lady gets over to me and kicks me out?" she thought, seriously considering the thought. But then she considered that this was an open pond in the middle of a jungle. And jungles were home to some of the nastiest, most disgusting bugs you could find in the universe. And she also remembered that bugs were very often drawn to pools of water. After imagining herself drinking where these horrible abominations have set foot many times before, Akran suddenly realized she didn't want the pool water.
So the woman's name was Ryder and she was offering Akran tea. Coffee would have been preferably, but Akran was too thirsty to ask for alternatives. She nodded at the invitation, straightening her posture back out and wiping a wad of sweat from her forehead before walking towards the woman and her cottage, her feet and legs searing in pain from each step she took. They were just so exhausted, and having a seat in a home in the forest, as suspicious as it may have seemed, just sounded like a godsend to the woman at this point.
Oh right, she'd been asked a question. "You see a tail?" she asked Ryder, turning to show the woman her rear end and lifting her shirt slightly to show that she did not, in fact, have a tail. Once she felt she'd shown off her not having a tail-ness enough, she dropped her shirt and turned back around, finally catching up with the woman at the doorstep of the cottage. She held out a hand for a handshake before stating, "The name's Akran, rhymes with nothin' and sounds kinda like acorn. Nice to meet you."

"Uh, no," Akran replied to the woman's request for a nickname. It wasn't one that anyone had ever used for her before, and it wasn't like it shaved any syllables off of her name, but she didn't see the harm in it. "That's fine, I guess." She added on to be clear that she approved of it. She tried to think of some sort of nickname to give the lady in return, but given that her name was Ryder, which already sounded like a nickname in itself, the best Akran could come up with was "Ryde" which didn't exactly sound right. "And I'll just call you Ryder," Akran added, confirming to both the woman and herself that there would be no attempts at stupid or punny nicknames. For now, at least.
The house seemed cozy, if a bit lacking in decor or other unnecessary features that would have added to the aesthetic. Though it made sense the place lacked in decoration: it sure would be a pain to personally craft something you'd never actually have a real purpose for, and heading out to the nearest city and buying then carrying back an unneeded piece of furniture also sounded like a huge pain. Akran took a seat on one of the chairs in the middle of the room, glancing around as she waited for Ryder to grab the promised tea.
Once the drinks had been served, Akran picked up and eyed the bamboo cup with some small level of awe. She'd never seen a cup made out of a plant before, it'd always been either paper, plastic, or glass. It didn't feel quite as sturdy as the former three materials, but nevertheless, it seemed to hold the drink fine. With a small shrug, Akran took a sip of the tea, and her face instantly contorted into one of disgust after the taste overwhelmed her mouth. She knew tea had less appealing tastes than other beverages, but whatever this tea was, it tasted... Wrong. But she was too thirsty to complain, so she reluctantly chugged down another large sip from the cup, her thirst finally feeling quenched.
"Sorry, what was the question?" Akran asked after she'd finished, having mostly missed the prompt while she was drinking. But her subconscious seemed to have picked it up well enough, because she realized what had been inquired after just a few seconds of thinking on it. "Oh," she said, "Well I was just passing through this hell of a jungle to get to some uh, place on the other side." She paused to bashfully scratch the back of her head, adding, "I don't seem to quite remember what that place was, though." After a brief pause, and another sip of the tea, she asked, "What about you? You said something about an army getting you kicked out?"

Muskmelon syrup? Akran hadn't heard of that kind of syrup before. Was it musky or melon-flavored? Or both? She couldn't think of syrup having much flavor other than... syrup flavor. There were probably better ways to phrase that, but Akran couldn't think of any. And then honeycomb? She felt that the word was familiar and definitely knew what honey was, but the "comb" part confused her. Was it a hair comb? That seemed unlikely: slathering a comb in honey would just make your hair unbearably sticky if you used it. But she couldn't think of anything else that the word comb meant. Just to be safe... "Uh, the Marshmallow syrup sounds good," she said, taking another sip out of her tea. It still didn't taste good, but she was becoming used to the flavor. Didn't mean she enjoyed it immensely, though.
Akran listened politely as Ryder talked about her "home", which was apparently this place. It reminded Akran somewhat of the place she'd stayed in during the Saiyan Invasion, though that place was in a cave and lacked proper furniture minus an old mattress. Ryder had certainly made her place more livable. Normally, Akran would've been trying to find something she could quietly swipe and sell off later on while Ryder wasn't looking, but even aside from the fact that the place didn't really have much to offer in terms of valuables, Akran was very tired, and would have felt guilty stealing from someone who had helped her out. She did have some semblance of honor despite all of her petty thievery.
"Wait, she's still talking," Akran reminded herself, tuning her ears back into the conversation right in time for the question. She hesitated to answer, reluctant to reveal any personal details to someone who, despite being friendly, was a complete stranger. "Oh, yes I have a home," Akran lied, "But it's rather far from here, I was just um," she paused for a moment as she tried to think of a way to continue while still sounding believable. "There's this uh, city on the other side of this jungle, so I was making my way there. I've got a relative I'm visiting - I'd just forgotten until now for some odd reason. Must have been the heat!" she faked a small laugh and took another sip of the tea, finishing off the cup.
Now she wasn't really sure where to take the conversation. Should she just leave? Her thirst was quenched for the most part now, so she could probably manage to make it to the other side of the jungle in one piece. Although, now that she thought about it, Akran realized she had no idea which direction she was headed in before she stumbled across the clearing. For all she knew, she could end up walking straight back to the entrance: and even that walk would take several hours. "So uh," she began to ask, trying to both change the subject from her likely unconvincing story and get some assistance, "You got any idea on a solid way through this place? I could use the help."

Going West brought you to East Capitol? That didn't make much sense to Akran, but apparently, that was the way things worked out geographically. She really should have looked at a map before heading into the jungle. Or, better yet, she should've brought one with her. But as the saying went in French, c'est la vie. Not much she could've done about her lack of preparation at the moment other than make a mental note to just get the proper gear for a long trip. "Yyyes," she slowly replied with a nod, confirming that she was indeed heading towards East Capitol. She'd been there before at least once, as far as she could remember, so it would be nice to get to semi-familiar territory, instead of the massive jungle they were currently in.
As Ryder stood up and declared quite proudly that she would be leading Akran out of the jungle, Akran's primary instinct told her to tell the woman to go screw herself and leave her alone, but she bit her own lip and thought about what she was going to say; very unusual for the girl. Okay, she could deny the help, as if she brought Ryder along with her, it was a lot more likely she'd figure out that she'd been lied to, and from Akran's experience, people didn't like finding out they'd been lied to. But on the other hand, it was doubtful Akran could find her way out by herself. However, the answer to one question seemed most important of all at the moment.
"Are we uh, leaving right now?" she asked, looking up with a sheepish smile and worried eyes. She had just sat down after walking through muddy and uneven terrain for at least an hour or two, and her legs and feet were still quite sore. It'd be nice if she could let them rest for just a liiiitle bit longer. "Cause uh," Akran stammered, tapping her fingers together anxiously. "If we are then that's cool, that's uh, fine." She reluctantly stood up, a familiar burn arising in her feet, her legs yelling at her to sit back down. "Okay, you uh, lead the way," said Akran, who gestured towards the door with a half-assed grin.

It seemed as though Ryder saw right through Akran, as she was led right to a proper resting place rather than back out into the jungle. "Well, if you insist," Akran said, feigning reluctance before she eagerly climbed up into the comfortably hung hammock, having some slight difficulty in keeping it from tipping over while she tried to properly nestle into the comfortable cloth. It definitely felt a lot better than most other beds and other "good enough" places to rest over the years.
"You uh, take care of the uh, stuff," Akran said half-mindedly as she folded her arms behind her head and stretched her legs out, though despite this she still didn't fill up the entire hammock, the bed obviously made for someone quite a bit taller than her. It was relaxing and helpedAkran's aching muscles feel much better after all the strenuous walking and... Walking, that was actually the only thing she'd strained them doing.
"I need to work out," Akran mumbled before shutting her eyes and shutting her mind off. It didn't take very long for her fatigue to catch up with her, and though she hadn't intended to drift off to sleep, that was just about exactly what happened within less than a minute, her head slowly rolling over to the side, an uncontrolled stream of drool beginning to pour from her lips out onto her cheek.

As far as she was aware, Akran simply blinked and it was suddenly hours later, the sky now a warm hue of bright orange and the air cooler, with the sound of bugs much louder and buzzing noises abound. Surprisingly, she didn't feel any back pains or aches in her joints, which she feared may have happened from sleeping on the hammock. No, she felt very refreshed and well-rested. A rarity: most naps typically result in confused, messy awakening, in which Akran would find herself in a position completely different from the one she'd fallen asleep in and be unaware of what year it was. Still, she hadn't meant to sleep for so long, even if she'd kind of been hoping to be able to. In the back of her mind, she was relieved that Ryder hadn't stabbed her and taken her money while she slept, though she never thought that was a likely scenario.
With some difficulty, she was able to properly sit herself back up and clumsily exit the hammock, which was rocking back and forth during her entire attempt. Somehow, she managed to avoid falling flat on her face despite gravity's best efforts. She looked around to see where the woman was, and while doing so she detected a pleasant scent of food coming from somewhere. Following it back to its source with curiosity, it led her into Ryder's workplace, and before her, she saw a sizable meal made up of some familiar, some unfamiliar vegetables, and one of Akran's favorite foods: meat.
"Whoa," Akran said in surprise, sounding a little taken aback by all the food. "I didn't realize you had a whole slaughterhouse and farm out here!" she jokingly remarked, as up till now she'd assumed Ryder was living off of some weird sort of "monk diet" based on the tea and the meditating. Her stomach began to involuntarily growl at the rich aroma of the foods, and only then did Akran realize she was not only thirsty but also quite hungry. It had been a long time since she'd eaten much other than cheap food and snacks. "You uh, didn't have to make all this stuff," she somewhat shyly commented, "I just uh, needed something to drink and show me how to get to East Capital." After realizing she probably sounded ungrateful, she quickly added, "Oh, but thank you! This looks good."

So the entire jungle basically acted as Ryder's farm, in a way. That was... Interesting? Akran hadn't ever had a knack for surviving off of the lands or anything of the sort. Now, surviving off of other people, that was where her specialty lay. In a way, she was even still exercising it here by getting all this help from the taller woman, though for once she hadn't had to trick the person into helping. For some reason, this felt more wrong than gaining help through dishonest means; Akran figured this was just because it so rarely occurred that people offered genuine help without being coerced or blackmailed into it. It was starting to become slightly suspicious to Akra. "Now when's she gonna ask me for something in return?" she thought as she sat down on a conveniently placed stone just a few feet from Ryder. Even if Akran was wary of Ryder's intentions, that didn't mean she was going to be turning down a steaming bowl of good-looking food. She eagerly accepted and began to eat from the bowl before Ryder even started talking, only half paying attention to what the other woman was saying as she engulfed the foods, like a black hole engulfs light. She didn't even stop to chew some of the pieces once they entered her mouth. ...Which was clearly a mistake, because after about 20 seconds of wolfing down food, a piece just too big to swallow became stuck in her throat. "Oh crap," Akran thought as she realized she couldn't breathe anymore. "Gckuh!" she exclaimed as she struggled to push the piece of food out of its position and clear up her windpipe. It was an awkward thirty seconds of her punching herself in the stomach and squeezing her own throat, and while her mind began to think that this was the end, it finally rocketed out of her mouth and landed on the ground in front of her. A little chunk of meat. "D-Damn you!" she exclaimed, pointing angrily at the culprit with genuine rage. To think something so insignificant had almost been the death of her. After a few moments of deep breathing, Akran responded to the question she'd heard shortly before she started choking. "Wait, uh, this is several weeks from the entrance of the jungle?" she was genuinely surprised. "I was just walking for uh, a few hours!" How had she ended up so deep into a jungle without realizing it?

Still coughing a bit from the earlier incident in which a piece of meat had attempted to kill her, Akran took a few seconds to respond. Cultivate ki? She couldn't say she'd never heard of the term before, and definitely knew about people and other aliens having their own set of "superpowers" but didn't imagine that she herself had any of them. She'd always just chalked up her ability to telepathically communicate as her being a psychic. Was the actual term for that called the "ki whatever"? "Uh," Akran stuttered as she began her response, not sure if it really was this ki thing or the fact that Akran had just happened to find a much faster route than Ryder knew was available. "Yyyes? I guess I do? Maybe. Er, I dunno." she continued to stammer, unsure of the proper response. Well, it didn't matter. "Okay, point is that I got here somehow, and I don't really care how as long as I can manage to get out." She said with much more assertiveness as she stood up from her seat and brushed off her pants before setting down her food, her appetite not quite as present after the fact that she'd just almost died to one of the pieces. Plus, in her struggle, she'd spit on the food a few times by accident and now the spit globs covered all the good stuff. Even if they had come from her own mouth, it wasn't ideal. With a brief nod at Ryder, she walked over to the door and picked up her own pack, its weight a little heavier than she'd have liked, but not unbearable to carry. After a few seconds of an awkward struggle to get it on her shoulders just right, she turned back over to Ryder and gave her a thumbs up. "Alright," she said with enthusiasm, "I'd go on ahead but that'd probably just result in us getting lost for hours upon hours, so you go ahead and lead the way out."

"Uh, that sounds fine," Akran replied, though she wasn't exactly looking forward to sprinting long distances in order to keep up with Ryder. They couldn't just go at a decently brisk pace so as to get a lot farther without completely tiring themselves out? Perhaps she just misunderstood, and Ryder would actually just be moving along at a reasonable, jogging pace at the fastest. After assuming the latter, it did end up catching Akran a bit off guard when the dirty blonde woman made her way into the jungle much faster than expected. "Hey, not that fast!" Akran protested as she hurriedly moved ahead to catch up with the woman. She was able to keep sight of Ryder even though she'd occasionally get herself smacked in the face by large plants and leaves, though after awhile Ryder was going, as Akran put it in her head, "pretty freakin' fast". "Are you trying to race or somethin' here?" she called ahead, unsure if her voice would even reach Ryder's ears. Her legs were steadily growing tired, and she wasn't even sure if they'd gone that far from Ryder's base camp yet. It certainly didn't feel very far, and at this rate, Akran had doubts she'd be able to go much further without taking a rest. Finally, she felt like she'd just about gone far enough to the point where her legs would melt into a puddle of goo. "Okay, hold up!" she breathlessly called ahead to the woman, before bending over and placing her hands on her knees while taking heavy breaths. "I need," she slowly said in between deep breaths, "to take... A break." Not only had she just about run as fast as she could have as far as she could have, but the jungle was extremely hot to Akran, even in her lighter clothes. "Just for like," she continued, "a minute or two here. I'm bushed." After a brief pause, she glanced back up, asking, "How far did we get anyways?"
