Just another day on the streets, or at least it started that way. Hinawa woke up with a groan as the first rays of the sun hit her closed eyes. The fox-girl was not a morning person, so it took her a moment of stretching before she climbed off of the park bench that had served as her bed. When she first ran away from the orphanage, sleeping on hard ground when in her human form had hurt like hell, but by now, she was hardened enough to not even notice it. The old newspapers that had served as a blanket were thrown to the side as the small girl stood up and stretched again, with a deep yawn coming from her mouth. After blinking the last bit of sleep out of her eyes, she looked around. Still the same old park in Satan City - some other homeless people also currently in the process of waking up. The alcoholics among them drinking their first cheap beer with shaking hands, the drug addicts getting out their first dose of whatever crap they used... Disgusting. Really, even among the younger homeless, Hinawa was the only one you didn't immediately expect to be homeless - she looked relatively healthy, her body was in shape, even muscled for such a small frame. Her clothes were a bit dirty - short shorts, a simple jacket without sleeves, and a clip in her hair. Only closeup you'd notice that she probably last had a bath around two weeks ago, but even then not from the smell - a fox knew how to keep somewhat clean.
For now, Hinawa walked down one of the paths in the Satan City park, checking for money. Not all that much - she'd have to either work for some or steal more. Of course, she'd probably end up stealing - she didn't have heightened interest in the kind of 'work' one would give to a relatively pretty girl that nobody would miss. If not for her physical prowess and ability to manipulate her internal energy into such feats as shapeshifting, she'd have been in trouble multiple times during the past year. As she walked past a newspaper stand, she noticed the date for the first time in a few weeks - her birthday had come and gone around a week ago.
"Happy belated birthday to myself, I guess." With a small sigh, Hinawa closed her eyes, and remembered the last 'good' birthday of her life, when she turned seven. When her family was still alive... Before the one-armed murderer vaporized her life. The headline just spoke of more disappearances amongst the city's lower class – Hinawa knew that the mafia was involved. Even more orphans, even more people that had their lives completely destroyed, even if a normal man and not a supernatural killer was behind it. Without even noticing it, the rage within her activated the latent Ki, and with red, shining eyes and fox ears and a tail she continued on walking, earning herself a longer look from the owner of the newspaper stand, before he went back to his coffee while shaking his head. Not the weirdest thing he had seen in this city lately...
Hinawa's first stop was a hot dog stand that she knew had affordable food for a slightly cold morning. Knowing her luck, it would become incredibly cold within a month or even sooner - but if she couldn't fight the cold, then how could she hope to fight the one-armed murderer? As she was munching on the cheap meal, Hinawa wandered through the seedier parts of town, as always. Here, nobody asked stupid questions - if you didn't know someone, you didn't try to interfere with them. She herself only knew a few people in Satan City so far - mostly because she broke the nose of one of them when he tried to flirt with her. After that, she had earned herself the respect of a small group of criminals. As she entered the shady apartment that served as their 'base', two of the four criminals she knew in the city were deep in some heated argument that stopped the instant she walked in and scanned them with red, glowing eyes. Hinawa was still in her 'battle' form, so she sensed their presence long before walking through the door - even weaklings like them had distinct signatures if you were close enough and knew them. Slowly, she raised one eyebrow up, with her fox ears twitching. Not a good sign, she was mad - again. Her four 'friends' had learned that much.
"Well?" asked her sharp voice into the silence, walking closer towards them - she could now see the sweat on both of their foreheads appear. There was only one reason for them to suddenly stop arguing, they had something to tell her and were wondering how to do it without getting some bones broken. Secretly, she really liked how much she could scare a common criminal simply with her unflinching stare and walk. They seemed so unnatural that she unnerved the people that saw it.
"Y... You're looking for a one-armed killer, right?" One of them asked, and with that, Hinawa froze in place and fixated him with slightly narrowed eyes. If this was some stupid joke, or dare, then she'd shove this guy's head into his own ass. "We just... Well..."
"Out with it, idiot!" With a sharp shout right into his face, she caused the criminal to topple over backwards onto the dirty couch in the room. The guy whimpered before continuing, obviously afraid of what this girl would do to him if she stopped talking now.
"G-George heard th-those guys from down at the 32th street talking! You know, those guys from the mafia he runs jobs for? Told him it was dangerous, but he had to pay his debt back somehow or they'd lynch him! They said something about a one-armed guy! Really!" With another whimper, the criminal now looked like he wanted to just sink into the dirty couch and get away from the blood-red eyes shining down on him like those of a hungry wolf. But under those eyes, Hinawa's stoic expression changed into a twisted smile. FINALLY a hint, no matter how flimsy! With a sinister chuckle that could scare the grim reaper, Hinawa patted her informant on the head.
"Good boy." With another chuckle, she turned around and walked towards the door, when her 'friend' spoke up once more.
"W-Wait! If you go in and just punch them all out, you'll never catch their boss!" Hinawa looked over her shoulder and just smiled back at him.
"Oh, don't you worry your little head. I'm faster than a car. Or a helicopter. Or a plane. And I can fly. He won't get away." And with skipping steps, chuckling like a little girl born from nightmares, Hinawa walked towards the safehouse of the mafia in town...
It was still the morning when Hinawa moved towards the backdoor of the warehouse that served as a stronghold for the local branch of the mafia. As always, there were at least four guys watching the back door, who all turned towards Hinawa as she came closer – with each step, the Ki within her rose up, and as she came close enough to be properly seen by them, her red, glowing eyes were accompanied by a shining red aura of Ki around her. As the first man reached for his gun, the fox-girl snapped into action.
With a speed beyond human possibility, Hinawa dashed towards the mafioso, bringing up her right hand as a fist and hitting the guy right in the jaw. Without even waiting to confirm her hit, the girl spun around, and kicked another man in a black suit right between the legs, before jumping over him and driving the heel of her left foot onto the head of the third guy. A left hook right into the stomach of mafioso number four sealed the deal, and was delivered before the first guy hit even took off from the ground. But lift off he did, flying up at least two meters before crashing down – total knockout and possibly broken bones for all of the guards in around one second or two. Dusting off her hands, Hinawa fixated the door – it was most likely locked. So she raised up her right hand, and concentrated. She was still new to this – but she had known how to do it, in theory at least, ever since that fateful night ten years ago. The red Ki of hers collected into the raised flat of the hand which was aimed at the door, and with a flash, a blast of pure, raw energy shot forward – not much bigger than the actual door, but enough to cause an explosion that ripped the door out of it's hinges and fire it into the room behind, together with bits of the wall. Without hesitation, Hinawa stepped into the dust whirled up by her Ki blast.
As soon as she stepped inside, Hinawa could hear the confused shouts and curses spoken by her victims today. With another devilish smirk, the young martial artist expanded her senses, finding out just where exactly these mafiosi were. According to her senses and what little she could see through the debris, there was the main storage room up ahead, and some railings above, with multiple rooms up there on stands where the bosses resided. There were probably drugs and weapons in all of the crates in the main room, so Hinawa decided to stir up the hornet nest a bit more by charging up another two Ki blasts and firing them right into the merchandise without hitting any of the criminals in the main room – after all, she didn't want to outright kill them and she doubted a normal human could survive a Ki blast to the face. The burning boxes and following explosions confirmed her suspicions of weapons and ammunitions hidden here. And as she thought, some of the mafiosi were clearly looking for her now in the dust – but the nice thing was, she could sense them without her eyes, giving her even more of an unfair advantage on these normal humans. Knocking out the few that got close enough to her, Hinawa utilized the red Ki aura around herself to properl herself upward, landing on the scaffolding that connected the few offices up here to the stairs up to the roof and down to the base level. And, as if on cue, the doors to one of the two offices was slammed open, with a group of burly men in suits rushing out, and an older man with a scar on his face following – the scarred one immediately turned towards the stairs leading upwards, with his bodyguards drawing guns and aiming at Hinawa, who was awfully hard to properly make out against the smoke of burning merchandise down on the ground floor. She didn't plan on finding out if guns still worked on her at this point, so with another blast of Ki, the small girl just barreled right through them, knocking them to the side effortlessly by simply ramming into them while mid-flight. Her goal was clear, go right after the boss who had fled to the roof, probably to get to his helicopter stationed up here.
Hinawa blasted the door aside just as the helicopter lifted off from the roof as fast as it could. Perfect! With another laugh, the girl dashed after the transport vehicle. It really wasn't hard to catch up to it – a fast air-car would've had a higher chance of escaping, because height really wasn't difficult to achieve with the art of flying through Ki. With a simple grip and rip, Hinawa tore off the left door of the helicopter the moment she reached it, earning herself a terrified scream of the big, burly scarred man in the back. As the pilot was looking back frantically, trying to see just what happened, Hinawa grasped the man by his shoulders, and with a little bit of strength, ripped him right out of his seat – probably dislocating his shoulders, judging from the scream of pain – and dragged him right out of the helicopter into the air, with a firm grip on his hurt shoulders so he wouldn't plummet down fifty meters and splat onto the roof of the burning warehouse.
“What, scared of heights?” Still laughing, Hinawa dragged the man higher and higher into the air, until they were a small distance above the helicopter. The red eyes of the girl with the fox-ears and tail peered straight into the black eyes of her target, who was visibly afraid of this girl who was maybe half his size – it was pathetic, really.
“Alright, pal. This'll be very easy for you, I promise.” The smile on Hinawa's face somewhat betrayed her less than noble intentions. “I know that you guys were talking about a guy with one arm, covered in scars. Probably stronger than the whole lot of you combined and then some. Who is he, where is he, and how do I find him? Now, I don't have to tell you what I'll do if you don't speak up...” The smile changed into a full on grin as Hinawa let go of the mafioso, who fell at least five meters with a yell, before the girl easily caught him again – the circling helicopter underneath them and the deadly rotor quite a bit closer.
“I'll talk! I'll talk!” The first words were music in Hinawa's ears. Good, not an idiot who'd play the noble role. “He just... appeared! We're trying to figure out where he came from! Disrupted some mining operation in Diablo Desert with his appearance! The bodyguard of the boss said he 'felt' how strong the guy was, he's one of these martial arts types! Really, that's... that's all I know! Please, just set me down! I'll give you all you want! Money, power, just ask for it, please!”
Well, this had been a lot easier than she first thought. With a grin, she pulled the mafioso closer to herself. Normally, she didn't like killing people... But this guy was a complete slimeball – because she knew exactly that he was the reason for many a disappearance in Satan City.
“Thanks for the help, buddy. I know that you've been doing a good job lately... Collecting on debts and such. Cleaning up Satan City. But you know what?” And with a broad smile, Hinawa let go of the shoulders of the man. “They'll have a hard time cleaning up after you.”
Hinawa turned around and flew off, the sound of a loud, high-pitched scream, and flesh hitting the rotor of a flying helicopter. Today, it would rain some human remains on Satan City.
Diablo Desert was just as desolate a place as the name suggested, but with some Ki-sensing and careful tracking, Hinawa finally found it. Well, to be honest, it wasn't that hard to find – mostly because you didn't see all that many three-story buildings in the middle of the desert, let alone one that was dome-shaped. Might as well hang a sign outside, 'supervillain lair right here', or something equally cheesy. As she approached, Hinawa shifted her Ki into her body – and with a slight 'poof', her body changed fully into that of a golden-brown fox that was slowly stalking closer towards her ultimate goal. The one-armed killer was near...
