Vi-Poi snapped the last button. It was the final gesture to complete the crisp black suit and tie, like one might wear to a funeral or celebrity award gala, the suit Vi-Poi wore when he first conquered the Earth, when he last donned during the Saiyan War. He’d stolen it from some workaday West City corporate stiff on his first day alive, and it’d never meant much to him beyond functional, appropriate attire in the general sense. To others though, it might be seen as a function of office. Or as a continuation of the same authority that appeared in the skies of the West on a bright blue day, the very same power that helped destroy the first Super Saiyan and sent the newly-arisen Z Fighters fleeing for their lives. It was the suit he wore – more or less – when times of great importance reared up.
He wanted to send the weight of this moment to Earth and beyond. Big Blu’s transceivers were cooked to their highest amplitude, sending out a message to the cosmic horizon, reaching many stars in the North Galaxy, those great nuclear bonfires that kept timeless darkness at bay. The message would reach many of them intact. Others, it would arrive piecemeal, distorted by the long journey through the void. But its intent would be easily discerned.
It was a line in the sand.
A diminutive blue-haired android stood on the surface of the moon, the Earth high above one shoulder. A camera captured this image and the transmitted audio.
“People of the Universe,” He began, clasping his fingers in front of him. “I am Virtual Poi, the leader of Planet Earth.” He raised a finger, gesturing to the blue globe above his shoulder. “As our duly-designated representative, and after consultation with the Global Legislature and the Blue Banner Army General Staff, I am pleased to announce a new era of peace and cooperation with the wider Universe. This is a prosperous peace, one protected by stalwart defenders of our world, from many diverse backgrounds. Earth is a world that pledges neutrality in the conflict among stars, and wishes only goodwill upon its neighbors. Accordingly, we look after our self. We recognize no higher power. We bow to no foreign king or queen, emperor or empress. The laws recognized and enforced by Earth are our laws generated naturally.” Vi-Poi gave a small smile. “We do not recognize any broader laws generated off-world, and we will not accept the illegitimate enforcement of any organization which is or purports to be a cosmic police force of any kind.”
The android let that announcement hang in time for a while, before adding, “Any violation of this official decree of the Premiership of Earth will be considered an unfriendly act. Any representative of galactic security interests or interstellar monarchies may find me at King Castle, Central City, if they have any questions, comments, or concerns.”
The broadcast winked out.
