“So, this is the Capital City,” Hiem–L–01 said, absorbing the scene before him. The great city of Arcose had once been abandoned, but long since had its people started to return to it. The temperature was low, critically so for the bodies of certain species who depended upon their environment, but the chill factor did nothing to deter the machine’s stride. But why was he even here? The news had reached the science and testing facilities of the Yardratic colony – Emperor Abzerute had fallen. In a test of superiority, a fresh face had stood up and challenged the ruler’s entitlement to the throne, and things had erupted beyond political dispute.
Having heard the news, the robotic replica of Changeling physiology had abandoned its place of construction – its place of birth – and struck out to the harsh climes of Arcose itself. Stark and glacial, inhospitable by nature, the frozen heart of the Imperial territories now burned with renewed vigour. Under their new Emperor’s command, surely the Arcosian race would prosper. That was the unspoken belief of many, but the prototype protector’s reasons for ‘returning’ to its place of schematic conception was unaffiliated with such notions. No, he was simply following his protocol and raison d’etre.
Geographic analysis and data comparison indicates that I am now entering the Capital’s political nexus. Therefore, the probability of encountering the new Emperor – my new charge – should be higher than elsewhere… Standing at a precise height of two hundred centimetres, the mechanical marvel towered above most others. Indeed, he dwarfed most members of the race whose aesthetic he was designed to emulate, but that was more or less due to technical restraints. Technology might have advanced quickly, but even compact technologies needed appropriate space to function.
“Hmm,” the Arcosoid tuned. Since his arrival on Arcose, something had been bugging his systems. An internal conflict was brewing within his memory, fuelled by a desire to adhere to each and every one of his issued orders. On one hand, his protocol – his designer’s dictation – was pushing him on to do what he was meant to do; the loyal servitude and selfless protection of the Imperial ruler. On the other, Abzerute’s orders still rang clear in his head. He could have obeyed at the time, cast himself to the planet Namek and sought out for the mystical objects capable of bringing his first liege back from the dead. But, alas, things had happened fast. No longer was Abzerute the Emperor, but he had made sure to forge contingencies to account for all angles, even in passing.
“My designation is Hiem–L–01,” he announced, halting and scanning the vicinity through the darkened glaze that was his facial pane. A few electric blue markings projected from within created some semblance of visage as he spoke, announcing his presence with a casual and somewhat mechanical boldness: “I have received word of our former Emperor Abzerute’s demise, and the subsequent claim to the throne. I have travelled from Yardrat to meet this new Emperor and, as my purpose, to serve him…”

With the announcement from the Arcodroid Retsu perked up from his throne. He sat up and narrowed his eyes as he took in Hiem-L's appearance. The Droids appearance was an odd one. Certainly not one that Retsu had been expecting. The Emperor stood up from his throne, and floated towards the android, only to stop but a few feet from him.
"You said you are here to serve me. That is good. Explain your Purpose, function, and abilities." He slowly began to circle the Arcodroid, looking him up and down. "And you said you were from Yardret yes? I might send them a message later on and tell them to make some design changes...." He thought for a few moments, smiling as ideas swirled in his head, before he shook it.
"And when you are done explaining that, Tell me of your experience with combat so far. If you have none I don't know how useful you'll be to me. I need soldiers and am willing to take in those around me, but not before I see a test of their strength and Conviction."
[Sorry for the wait! Holidays are always crazy for me.]

As his new liege spoke, Hiem–L–01 listened intently. This would be the voice to which he would have to quickly become accustomed, autonomous auditory sensors registering and recording snippets of speech and converting them into a storable, easily accessible format. Depth, volume and intonation alike were documented, saved and inserted into the Arcosoid’s procedural intellect. While his protocol had not changed, the fulcrum of it all had been reassigned. This was the voice of the new Emperor of Arcose and its surrounding territories, and one which he would not be forgetting any time soon.
“My original purpose was to act as an elite bodyguard and servitor to the Emperor of the Arcosian territories – a duty which I, unfortunately, have yet to successfully fulfil due to various complications and political conflicts. Regardless, it is not in me to question such things – my absolute duty is to serve and protect where necessary,” the prototype explained, “even if that means sacrificing my physical existence. As for function, I possess an artificial intelligence designed to adapt and accommodate for any and all changes in circumstance. That is why, upon received word of your inheritance of the throne, I travelled here. Abzerute’s reign has come to an end even before I was officially dispatched. My loyalty to the previous Emperor is null and void.”
Hiem–L lied. The smooth monotony of his virtual voice did not betray any hints of dishonesty; such was the unanticipated boon of being an artificial life form. At the same time, it felt somewhat wrong – something unnerving to say such a thing. It was not because it was a falsehood, but perhaps more because it opposed his baser design. Had he never met Abzerute in person, had the former Emperor never uttered that single command, then never would the ‘Arcosoid’ have experienced such a strange conflict. Nonetheless, it was a hidden struggle, witnessed only by the streams of data that flooded the minute circuitry.
“Affirmative, my liege,” the synthetic sentinel responded to Retsu’s comment on Yardrat: “From what I am aware, the project of which I am a part was conceived under the rule of a previous ruler, Wyntre, but was postponed. I was completed within the research and development laboratories on Yardrat.”
There was a succinct moment of silence.
“My live combat experience is minimal. Suffice to say, had I have been completed sooner,” the autonomous alien said ominously, “you and I may have ended up face to face when the challenge to the throne was made. Even so, I will admit that I have had neither the time nor the opportunity to engage in anything more than virtual reality testing, a handful of staged stress tests and a brief spar with Abzerute himself. From what was said to me by the scientists of Yardrat’s facilities, my Power Level was last clocked at eight thousand. I am currently equipped with suppression units that inhibit my power substantially, but allow for accelerated growth.”
Usefulness, was it? The Emperor, upon his throne, was almost brutal with his words. And yet, it was honesty in its finest form. Any other soul might have taken such a comment on weakness as offensive, abrasive and downright rude. 01, however, did not. He knew full well that his current capabilities were extremely lacking – his spar against the deceased Emperor Abzerute had proven that he was yet small fry compared to the bigger threats and foes the cosmos had to offer. There was no doubt that, even uninhibited and allowed to enter a state of raw energy exertion, he would still pale in comparison to the man before him.
“Barriers, neutralisation, interference,” he listed: “These are the core aspects of my current abilities – defensive by nature due to the original design. However, just because I was programmed for the sake of defence does not prevent me from going one step further. Should it come down to it, while I must prioritise your safety and title above all else should the situation call for it, I am capable of doing what you need me to. Even if I am currently incapable of matching higher powers, I will find a way to do so. I was designed to learn and adapt for that very reason. Even if I am not made of flesh and blood, I am still ‘alive’ in the sense that I have a purpose. I travelled here of my own accord so that I might work towards that purpose. So, what are your orders, my Emperor…?”

Retsu was intrigued by the droids Responce. "A bodyguard? Never enough of those around, that is for sure." He smiled as the droid continued to speak. "I see. You haven't yet had a chance to protect anyone thanks to various complications. And yet here you are, ready to fullfill it." He stopped in front of Hiem-L and brought his arms behind his back. "Well Consider yourself in service from this moment onward. I will have a great many uses for you." He chuckled to himself. "And if you prove yourself an asset... I'll reward you however you may see fit. Be they Upgrades, repairs, Or perhaps learning a technique I recently mastered."
He fell silent as Hiem-L explained its combat experience, a frown crossing his face. He sighed softly then shook his head. "That is a problem, but one I will rectify." He flew backwards, returning to his seat on the throne before smiling. "I can't do it now, but I will spar with you to test your full abilities. Though Make a note. Even as I am now, you are nothing against me. Your power is dwarfed by even five percent of my full power. And if you think that is impressive... The one I hired to kill the former ruler was over Eight Million units." He narrowed his eyes. "That is your goal. I want you strong. Strong enough to slay enemies and assassins that come my way. I want you to Train to kill Noxa, if need be, whom is my special forces commander."
He sat back, tail thumping against the throne as it draped off the side of it. He smiled. "In fact Noxa is small fry compared to the one I plan to hunt. You said your name was Hiem-L didn't you? I want you to train. To become stronger than Noxa, so that you may be my ultimate weapon. The perfect soldier. I want you to train to kill the Bitch who destroyed our empire in the past. I want you to train to kill Zuccetta. I have high hopes for you. Do what I ask well and I shall treat you well. Betray or deny my orders...."
His tone suddenly became serious, his eyes narrowing into a glare. "I will destroy you, and anything you hold dear.... Understand?"

The Emperor’s words were laced with cold, hard fact. Almost blatantly did he announce the fact that he had hired an aide to overthrow Abzerute before him – an individual to whom he referred as ‘Noxa’. Intent to listen and follow orders, Hiem–L–01 registered the nomenclature of this apparent mercenary. Curiosity piqued as the synthetic sentinel saved the name and admittedly minimal data, somewhat safe in the knowledge that he would at worst be working in tandem with an individual of such a high measure of power. Eight million, he could surmise, was more than enough raw power to vaporise a whole legion of robotic warriors.
“It is strange to think that such strength can exist,” the Arcosoid nodded, “but I suppose that attests to my current limitations. If it is strength that you wish for me to acquire, my liege, then so be it.”
Hiem–L watched – patient and conservative – as Retsu returned to his throne. Their brief moment of proximity had allowed for more accurate biological scans. Optic sensors had drawn a precision replica of the Imperial’s suppressed façade, adding to the various authenticity checks to which the artificial intelligence was loyal. There was not an ounce of doubt in the prototype’s mechanical mind that this was the new Emperor in all his glory, but even he knew that Arcosians were a variable race. It was nigh impossible to replicate the effects of Changeling transformation in an artificial form, though the scientists of Yardrat had certainly tried to do so. Science just could not accommodate for such drastic shifts in size, morphology and power when the base framework was made of alloy and plastic.
However, it was less the aesthetic properties of his charge than the personal ones than truly had the virtual vanguard thinking. Abzerute had been cool, complacent and refined. Retsu, on the other hand, seemed a lot more spirited, in a strange and roundabout way. He had smiled, he had frowned, and he had exhaled deeply and shown curious expressions. Never before had 01 witnessed such behaviour in an Arcosian, but then again, the slate–skinned sovereign was only the second whose presence he had been graced with.
“Understood, Emperor,” Hiem–L saluted: “If I may inquire, is Arcose equipped with facilities that shall aid me in achieving this goal?”

Retsu nodded at Hiem-L's words. "I was surprised when I learned of such strength as well. Such powers dwarf us and others without problem, which is why we must strive to train and get stronger, so that we may protect our empire and the people who reside in it." He sat back in his throne and sighed softly, his eyes closing as he relaxed a tad.
At the question of Facilities he frowned and opened his eyes. " Sadly no. We had a gravity chamber, but it was damaged in the battle with Abzerute. Its holographic capabilities still work but not the gravity. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone qualified to repair it yet, but I'm working on it. So I will give you a choice. You can stay here on Arcose and train yourself. Or you can come with me as I head to earth. There you will be able to train with those that would give you good combat experience. Challenge people to spars and fight as you would. You can learn much from those that call earth home."
"I'll be heading there to attempt to make some sort of treaty with their leaders, perhaps get a boost in financial affairs and the like." He sat back before reaching to his side. He tossed Hiem-L a small pouch. Inside contained a substantial amount of currency. "Before we do anything however. Take that and upgrade yourself however you see fit." He spoke. "Can't have you being a one trick pony."

A damaged Gravity Chamber? Disappointing to say the least, but Hiem–L–01 was by no means bothered by such an issue. The concept of holographic training situations intrigued him, however. Up until now, the virtual vanguard’s training regimes had strictly abided to computerised realities or tangible facilities. The idea that those two worlds could collide, blend together as he did with the world around him, was worthy of note. Nonetheless, his thoughts were quelled and contained, diligently directed to more prominent matters of fact. Without an efficient means of training on Arcose, fulfilling his objective was a steep hurdle, hard to leap.
“I remember undergoing virtual reality testing using data gathered from previous imperial links to Earth,” the Arcosoid added in the wake of Retsu’s mention of such a planetary body. On the inside of his darkened glaze façade, memory projected high resolution imagery of terrestrial reconnaissance – rocky plateaus and lush forestry, crowded cities and wide open waterbodies. A stark contrast it was to the glacial climes of Arcose proper, but said visualisations were nothing more than works of sophisticated computer systems. Those were conveniently placed pixels, not a true, tangible alien world.
That sealed the deal.
“Even if I am not yet at capable capacities, it would be gross negligence on my part if I was unavailable to – due to travel restrictions – be at your side should a threat emerge,” the prototype explained, feeling some sense of misconduct within his artificial being. Already had the obstacle of interplanetary distance opposed his protocol and function, though at this point Hiem–L was sure his presence would not have mattered regarding Abzerute’s defeat. Now, in service of a new Emperor, he was determined to avoid such mistakes. “My loyalty to my design, and thus to you, comes first and foremost. At your word, I shall accompany you to Earth. If it will be of benefit to us, then it would be wrong of me to oppose such a call. And, I admit, I would rather like to experience the planet first hand.”
An object was thrown – tracing software calculated the trajectory. Though it appeared mostly blank from the outside, perhaps eerily so, the inner workings of Hiem–L’s head quickly mapped a three–dimensional course. Suppression units worked their magic, making it so much more difficult for the synthetic soldier to move, but even so it received the satchel and its contents. Currency, the financial fundamental of the world at large and a necessity in the artificial entity’s path of development, had been provided.
“Thank you, my liege,” 01 nodded: “I do not know what a pony is, but it sounds rather weak…”

Retsu shut his eyes once more, thinking as Hiem-L spoke. He nodded slowly before smiling and opening his eyes once more. "Good. I was going to drag you along regardless." He said. "It just so happens as Emperor you get a few things handed to you for free, one of those things being a ship." He chuckled to himself before shaking his head.
He'd stand up out of his throne and walked towards Hiem-L. He placed a hand on the Arcodroid's shoulder before nodding. "Get yourself Upgraded with the funds I have given you, and once you are finished head to the spaceport. I'll be waiting there for you." With that he turned, his aura ripping up around him before he flew off into the distance, leaving Hiem-L alone in the palace to do as he pleased.
It was a short post and sorry for the wait, but lets get going to earth!
