There Marautis stood, at the mouth of the Diablo Desert. It was midday, the hottest part of the day where the sun was at its peak. It bored over the Earth, it’s harsh rays shining down and superheating the sand and its surroundings. The surroundings of course were sparse in the desert; far and few between. Though all that there was of the surroundings where cliff faces and towering rock structures that cast sinisterly long shadows over the expanse of the Diablo Desert; a notorious place. It wouldn’t be Marautis’ destination of choice of course. The hot sapping heat of the desert and the dry, stale air didn’t suit him well at all. It dehydrated him, it thirsted him to no end. There was no water in sight, as far as the eye could see. Entering this desert would be a truly treacherous task. His body would labour to keep his fluids flowing and to prevent them drying out. The pores on his skin would take in what little moisture they could get while taking the risk of drying out in the air. Marautis decided it would be more beneficial to tightly close his pores to keep what moisture he had inside. His body would begin to swelter in the high temperatures; this was going to be a tough task. He took his first steps into the desert. Feeling the hot dirt underneath his feet would make him rethink his decision to come here. It would be so simple to turn back to the shoreline, dive back into the fresh, cool, invigorating water. Oh how it would replenish his thirst and rehydrate his parched body. The soothing sensation of the saltwater rushing over his skin, as his pores would open up and swell with the sweet yet salty liquescent. No. His mind was wandering and he had to stop it. The more he thought about the water and the promise of his sweet beloved ocean, the more he’d hesitate to move further into the desert. He had to do this. He moved through the desert, sluggishly heaving his body over the scorching soil beneath him. His body would work overtime with every breath and every step, trying to keep Marautis moving forward. In the distance mirages of water would materialise, they shimmered with sweet splendour and promise. Marautis resorted to dipping his head and keeping it down as much as he could, he’d attempt to distract himself from the temptations and interference around him. His body would ramble on. It had been approximately 30 minutes. Marautis had carried himself a long way into the desert and it would almost be too far to return at this point if he didn’t achieve his ultimate goal. To return at this point would be suicide, unless by some miracle he’d achieve the outcome he’d come here for. Time would tell. Marautis wasn’t mucking around. He stopped on the spot and planted his feet forcefully into the earth. The hot sand stinging the underneath of his feet; he winced. The first step he’d need to take would be to power up to his absolute maximum. He’d need to be a full strength in order to get the most out of his body. Today he would push the boundaries. He wouldn’t stretch the envelope; he’d tear it wide open. He planned to enter a new plane of power entirely. Power like he had imagined seemed so far out of reach, alas this seemed he’s only available avenue to unlock it. He brought his arms to his sides and formed 90 degree angles at the elbow joint. Bending at the knees and engaging his core he would begin to charge his ki as best he could in this blistering heat. “Huuuuaahhh,” rumbled Marautis from deep inside his throat. The noise emanated deeply from somewhere down in his chest. His body tensed up forcefully. The ki in Marautis’ body would rush about his body, from the tips of his toes to the finger nails on his tightly scrunched fists. The rumble from his throat synchronized with the slight rumble around him as small particles of sand and small rocks would lift off the ground. The pure vibration of the energy would be enough to displace them a few feet into the air. His veins lumped as they worked to provide his body with the blood and oxygen needed to supply the sharp increase in power. Pumping strenuously, they covered his entire body. They lifted off the surface of his deep blue skin. It was rather sickening to watch to be honest. And so Marautis would continue to charge his ki and push himself to his possible limits, all alone out in the desert; or so he would think. Who knew what lurked out in such a sparse and lifeless skeleton of a place? What toxic and lethal life would uncover Marautis out in the desert on this day? His power level would be no secret. It seemed only a matter of time until he was discovered…. [ Thread Powerlevel = 29,738 ]

“Yea, that is him…” Otto said, sighing. When he had seen the bounty board listing for a nuisance sea creature in the south, he had hoped that it was just a coincidence. But here he was, the creature that had given him aid back at the sunken ship weeks ago. Recently, the bounty board listings had been drying up, and it was his bread and butter. Reluctantly, he had taken the job even though it might put him at odds with an acquaintance. He had a hope that one day the two might team up again, but fate had other plans. Otto couldn’t afford to pick and choose his jobs right now. Otto’s visor was zoomed in on Marautis. His scouter indicating that his power level was nearly thirty thousand. Had he been that strong the last time they met, before Otto had installed the scouter into his suit? Or had he just grown since then? He had been stalking Marautis for a few hours, from a distance, waiting for a time to strike. Then, the creature had made a peculiar choice. “Why on earth would he be going into the desert? Is he trying to commit suicide?” Otto asked himself, perched in a jungle tree not far from the edge of the expanse of sands. The mercenary watched from his perch for as long as he could, leaving only when Marautis had become little more than a speck. “Well, it will be a lot easier to handle him if he is going out into the desert, I can probably just wait for him to die out there and pick him up… at least then I won’t feel as guilty about this,” Otto thought to himself as he trekked far behind the zoonamite. Otto stopped when he saw the aquatic being stop, he could hear the faint sound of a yell in the desert, and zooming in with his visor he could see the rocks and dirt around him beginning to stir. What was he doing? Perhaps he had found some way to adapt to the climate. But Otto thought that patience would be a virtue here… if he only knew that competition was nearby, he might have acted sooner. CallioThread PL: 39,538 Thread Reward: Zeni

The energy would flood his veins and pulsate around his body. Circulating and gaining charge as it did so, it felt good. Marautis tried to maintain his stance but his limbs would begin to shake and stammer, he was losing balance. He further tightened his body to try and correct the problem but this only seemed to worsen it. He wouldn't think he'd be able to hold on much longer, but surely he couldn't be far away now. Rubble and dust whirred around him viciously, enveloping everything in its surrounds in an evil cloud of dust. Choking and strangling the land around him in at least a 20 foot radius. It had felt like his power would continue to charge but alas Marautis felt his energy beginning to plateau. The wind was taken out of his sails as his body would simply be worn down now by the extreme amount of energy coursing through it. His body beginning to convulse further and small jolts of electrical energy escaped his body being drawn out into the surrounding environment. The passing energy would jolt Marautis and electrocute his core. Causing his muscles to spasm and eventually fail.
"Huaaahhhhh..." He roar would taper off and eventually die slowly.
Marautis' body would collapse in a heap, almost in unison with the rocks and clutter that had accumulated and swirled around in the air simultaneously with him. He charge was lost and Marautis found himself face down in the hot scorching sand. He would've instinctively flinched and lifted his head but his energy was momentarily sapped and he could simply not muster the strength for even that. He lay half conscious, only able to focus on the few feet of sand around him before his vision would blur. He watched his fist lay helplessly beside him limp. In anger he would clench it as hard as he could. Much to his disappointment though the muscles would simply not oblige and his hand would merely jerk softly. He let out an exhausted huff as he slowly felt his strength return to him. His body felt weak and oddly lightweight. Sweat was forming not only on his brow but surfacing all over his body; this was not good.
The violently hot and unforgiving surrounds paid no sympathy for him. The sun overhead would look down tauntingly and laugh at him. So weak and powerless in the depths of the desert. Alone he would lay and wallow in his limitations. Marautis knew deep down there had to be way. There had to be some method that would allow him to ascend to the next level. The power was within but it had to be unlocked somehow. What was the key though? Pushing himself to his absolute limits seemed like the answer. It appeared the only way to get his body to ascend would be to put in the vices of death, to let it crawl out on its own accord. It felt right, but at the same time, so horrifically painful.
Heaving in the dry desert air with exerted breaths, Marautis began to slowly rise to his feet. At first only managing to stammer to a single knee and support himself with his hands. Continuing to huff he mustered all this strength and forcefully exerted with his feet to bring himself to his feet. His back hunched over horridly with his hands supported on his knees, his next move would be to straighten his spine and stretch his arms widely out to his sides, unleashing an agonising roar of pain as he felt his muscles stretch and joints click into their correct positions.
Marautis didn't feel alone this desert. Whether it was the whisper of the hot air, or the deceitfully arid rays of the looming sun above, something else was here. The quiet and dark eyes of the desert that lurked in the shadows watched on ever so broodily. Marautis stood, allowing his eyes to dart around into every patch of shade and shadow; searching. Something...or someone was here, he could just feel it. What was it they wanted....?

Otto could tell that his target was struggling with the desert temperatures. He was still perplexed as to why his fishy friend had decided to take a stroll in the most inhospitable terrain for his species. Still, this was taking a lot longer than he had hoped for Marautis to die from dehydration, and so he shrugged his shoulders and decided that he would have to go and help speed the process up. He was also surprised to see his scouter occasionally spike up when he focused it on the sea creature… damned thing must have been glitching.
Otto darted into the sky, his jet pack loudly announcing his presence as he came closer to Marautis. In mid air, he disengaged the device and plummeted towards the ground, landing near Marautis with a loud thud that kicked up the desert sand.
When the dust cleared, Otto could be seen standing in front of his struggling old acquaintance. He walked up to him slowly, ignoring the bad feeling in his gut as he contemplated destroying someone that he had gotten along with quite well.
“Greetings! Man it is hot out here, isn’t it?” Otto said to the zoonamite. He reached into his chest compartment and pulled out a bottle of water, lifting his helmet up above his mouth to take a small sip of the water that surely was a taunting presence to the zoon.
“What the hell are you doing out here anyways bro?” Otto asked as he wiped his mouth with his gloved hand.

Marautis remained still now for a few minutes, gathering his thoughts and composing himself. Breathing in and out arduously, quickly trying to replenish his body with much needed oxygen. He allowed his lungs to expand to their full potential and draw the dry air in, diffusing across the membrane instantly and beginning it's circulation around his body. His shoulders and back rose up and down slowly. He closed his eyes, permitting some intermission from the intense glare of the sand below. After these few minutes had passed, Marautis opened his eyes, feeling ever so slightly renewed in this hot arid wasteland. Marautis' attention was quickly drawn to a strange sound of some sort of engine initially firing and then spluttering to a stop almost as if it's engine was cut quickly. He turned his body to the source of the sound in puzzlement, not knowing quite what would appear before him. The once eerily quiet desert was now alive with the noise of a new arrival it seemed. With an audible thud, the guest landed, making their presence known. It was Otto. The man approached out of a cloud of dust that had formed from his dramatic entrance. He would now begin to speak to Marautis. “Greetings! Man it is hot out here, isn’t it?”"Indeed. Quite a straightforward observation Otto, well done," Marautis teased flippantly, "Not my most preferred place in the world to be honest. But I suppose if nothing else it will broaden my horizons somewhat. I do get tired of the beach sometimes you know, a little bit sea sick."He watched as his friend drew out an ice cold bottle of water, lifting it to his lips to drink; "Must get rather stuffy in that tin bucket of yours," “What the hell are you doing out here anyways bro?”"It's not any of your business is it? Can't a simple fish take a leisurely stroll through the desert on a nice hot blistering day like today? Oh the sting of the sun and rough sand on my skin simply fills me with boundless bundles of joy," He mocked sarcastically, "Am I allowed to ask you the same thing? What brings you out into the confines of the Diablo? There's not a single soul out here for miles, rather strange you managed to simply stumble upon me here wouldn't you say?" Marautis eyed Otto, although it was a pleasant surprise to see someone he got along with rather well, he had his suspicions. He had always thought Otto to be a somewhat unsavory character; probably why the two got along so well. But he had thought at times that he most certainly wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of it all. What did Otto want exactly? ( Otto)

Marautis was definitely suspicious about Otto’s intention out here in the desert. He guessed that he couldn’t really blame him, but he had hoped that the sweltering heat might have dulled him to the point of sensory degradation and proper thought process. Instead it looked like the heat had made the fishy a little extra grumpy, which was understandable.
“I don’t know man, if I were you I would have just stayed in paradise,” Otto replied. “You see, word has been getting around about a little hell raisers causing all kinds of havoc, I decided to come check out the new fish on the block if you catch my drift”
Otto turned his back to Marautis, pacing backwards several feet before about facing to look back at him. His fingers dancing on his left hand were the only sign of nervousness that could be seen.
“And you know, I really admire hellraisers. They are my kind of people…” Otto said in his muffled voice. “But y’know, the sad thing is that people like us always end up plastered on bounty boards… and after a recent snafu, I ended up on one myself,”
Otto grit his teeth under his mask, he knew what would be coming soon after.
“And the only way I am going to pay my way off that board is with a good deal of zeni…”
Otto slowly opened up his armor’s chest cavity again, retrieving the bottle of water and tossing it at Marautis.
“It’s nothing personal bro, go ahead and drink up… I’ll make it quick…” Otto promised. He would wait to see if the zoonamite would take his offer for hydration before making a move.

“I don’t know man, if I were you I would have just stayed in paradise,”
Marautis cracked a slight grin. He remembered the beach, where he had emerged from this morning. Indeed, paradise. Oh what he would give to be back in it's salty sweet arms, floating on his back, adrift in the cool brisk waters. It wasn't too hard to imagine himself, given a great deal of his days were spent doing just that. He enjoyed it most on the morning after a rain, when the sea seemed plentiful and the rising morning sun laying a balmy blanket over it's expanse while the southerly breeze would blow in almost on cue it seemed some mornings. Though Marautis wouldn't let this thought distract him, it seemed a waste of time to spend his energy on thinking of what he clearly couldn't have at the moment. His energy in this heat was sapped as it was and he couldn't afford any excess expenditures.
“You see, word has been getting around about a little hell raisers causing all kinds of havoc, I decided to come check out the new fish on the block if you catch my drift”
Marautis' grin faded, and he began to understand what Otto was trying to get across to him. "Mhm. I am indeed beginning to catch your drift Otto. I don't think it would be just to hold anything against you, nor will I be doing that. You know I never was one for honour or respect, but I understand how it must be."
“And you know, I really admire hellraisers. They are my kind of people… But y’know, the sad thing is that people like us always end up plastered on bounty boards… and after a recent snafu, I ended up on one myself, and the only way I am going to pay my way off that board is with a good deal of zeni…”
"Ahh. I suspected as much of you Otto. Don't take that the wrong way, I admire it. I don't think you and I are all that dissimilar. But do what you will, you have certainly picked a convenient time and place. Before we start, I'll have you know, I came out here for a reason. I won't spoil anything, but you'll find out in due time just what it is that I came out here to achieve. You may have picked a bad day to follow me out here my friend."
Marautis was still unsure at this point. But he had decided his best bet for truly ascending his power would be to push himself to his limits. It seemed now that his friend Otto would be helping him achieve that whether he knew it, or liked it or not. He wasn't 100% percent sure in his mind that this would work, but here was here now, it's what he planned to do anyway. He could only hope that if this man decided to try and beat him to a pulp it would somehow trigger his ascension. It was the best bet Marautis had. Though a risky move also, he felt like he only had a few minutes left in him as it was...
Marautis then watched as his friend retrieved the water bottle yet again, offering him a drink, “It’s nothing personal bro, go ahead and drink up… I’ll make it quick…”
Marautis chuckled, "Heh, sardonic as ever. I'll pass on the water, I don't think it'll do me much help at this point, seeing as you plan to hurry this along,"

"Oh well if you insist, it is because it is fresh water isn't it? We could mix in a little sand and- never mind," Otto said jokingly. He shook his head and raised his arm cannon up at his opponent, the metal giving off a sheen of the bright light from the desert sun. A gust of wind past gently through his hair, small speckles of dust dancing about as time seemed to stand still for a moment. It was apparent that he was a bit hesitant, which was rare for someone like him. His arm canon had two barrels, and the upper barrel began to swirl with a faint and ethereal purple light. With each passing fraction of a second, the light grew brighter and began to turtle out of the barrel of the weapon. Otto pushed his left foot forward, and bent at its knee slightly. He rested his left elbow into the depression between his hips and torso, his gloved left hand held underneath the arm cannon to provide support. As the energy began to spin and grow more volatile, it created its own small breeze that caused his spike white hair to blow as if it were against the wind. Otto remained silent as the weapon prepared to fire. Underneath his mask, a frown was upon his face, but the mask he wore made him appear emotionless. Within his arm cannon, he let his finger slide off of the trigger that he was holding down to build the beam up. As he let it go, a high frequency screeching noise filled the silent air. A basket ball sized purple orb crackling with electric currents around it was hurled towards the zoonamite, the sand beneath the beam seemed to dance in response to the electric charges it was outputting. When it would hit the area that Marautis was standing at when he fired it, the orb would explode in a small radius, kicking up a great deal of dust. Otto's scouter began searching through the dust trying to pick up the zoon's signature. He could not tell if his attack had landed, or what kind of damage it had done. Marautis . - 25,986pl - “Bowed down to get the kings overthrown and I'm all alone and the fire grows”WORDS: 736 | TAGS: Marautis and Otto | NOTES: Gonna Jump in Now This wasn't typically his kind of thing, but he was in need of Zeni and a way to test himself. The bounty he had undertaken allowed for Callio to do both of those things with relative ease. What he hadn't been expecting was the level difficult that finding his mark provided. A man with a robotic like body and silver hair should have been ease to find, but Callio was finding it to be quite the opposite. In fact the only lead he had managed to find was that his target had been seen heading into Diablo Desert. A vast expanse that while large majority of it was empty, finding someone within it was still going to be hard. Callio had of course tried searching for his target's energy signature but found himself unable to do so. It was almost as if the person had no signs of life within their body. Just what kind of person couldn't have their energy sensed? Even people with the ability to suppress their ki still managed to release a portion of their power. Was it simply because the man had no life energy within him? Callio could only make out a tsk sound as he hovered high above the sky, looking down towards the desert below him. He had been at this for the past twenty minutes or so, and quite frankly was starting to get fed up. He wasn't exactly one to give up so easily, but that was starting to look like the only option.
At least that would have been the case if his senses hadn't suddenly been assaulted by a powerful ki starting to rise up somewhere nearby him. His arms folded against his chest and a grin played across his features as he focused in on the power he was feeling. It was large, and he could feel it growing even larger by the second. Comparing it his own level of power did provide with a reasonable level of expectation of being able to handle what he assumed to be the man he was looking for. Once he was locked onto power signature Callio began to move towards its location at blinding speeds. It didn't take him very long to reach the target location, but he didn't bothering lowering himself from the heavens. No. He stared down towards the two people below him and watched as they conversed. He couldn't hear what they were talking about, he was able to tell that they were speaking. One of them was clearly a fish, and the second one...just who Callio had been looking for. The half-saiyan flexed his muscles and readied himself for the battle that was about to ensue. His blood boiling at the idea of taking the both of them on at the same time. Though something surprising happened. The man Callio had been looking for suddenly launched an attacked towards the Zoonamite. "Oh?" certainly curious, Callio had been assuming that they were partner in arms. That changed things entirely.
If he was going to attack now would be the perfect time, it give him the upper hand. Neither of them seemed to notice his presence at all and that was perfect, hopefully they'd be too busy fighting each other to take note of him. The hybrid took a deep breath and held his right arm to his side, his elbow bent slightly and his palm open in a like claw like shape. He began to force his to built up in between his fingers and as it began to raise he started to mold it into his desired shape. It took mere seconds for the crescent shaped ki sphere to appear within his hand. No words were muttered as he winded his arm back a couple of inches and then with his full force swung it forward. The energy escaping from his hand and zooming through the air towards Otto with an astounding level of speed. Slowly Callio began to lower himself towards the ground, red locks floating about in the wind. "Someone wants you dead cyborg, and I'm here to deliver." if the attack hadn't been enough to make his presence know his words certainly would have been. While Callio might have been speaking to Otto, he was keeping his attention focused towards Marautis as well. Just because they seemed to be fighting the same enemy didn't mean they were aligned.

"Oh well if you insist, it is because it is fresh water isn't it? We could mix in a little sand and- never mind," Shortly after these words it seemed Otto had wasted no time whatsoever in launching his assault upon Marautis. Bracing himself steadily and hastily firing out the purple luminescent orb into the path of Marautis. It whizzed through the air precisely and hit it's contact point of the ground where Marautis had been standing only moments prior. The fish man had launched himself several meters into the air with a powerful leap propelling his body upwards with ease. He watched as the attack below exploded into a large cloud of dust and clutter. No doubt a small crater would form into the surface of the earth it had connected with. Marautis hung airborne for the few following seconds after the blast. He would have no doubt appeared to burst out of the cloud of dust spectacularly bringing himself into the view of Otto. While he quickly descended back down to the ground and into the rubble below he noted another power level in the two friends company off somewhat in the distance. His head turned quickly before his vision would be lost in the dust as he spotted the visitor. He had only caught a glimpse of them but witnessed a quick ki attack being charged and prepared to be launched at Otto it seemed. Marautis chuckled to himself as he landed among the cloud, he didn't think Otto had anticipated this. Connecting with the ground, Marautis quickly took to a crouching position and rolled quickly out of the cloud into the clear to witness the exchange between the new arrival and Otto. "Hm, and just who do we have here?" Marautis murmured to himself as he crouched and simply observed. ( Otto)

After Otto had caught that Mauratis had managed to avoid his small attack, with the dust fading away, he felt a clunk on the back of his armor that made him stumble forward slightly. Dust kicked up around him, and for a moment he looked left and right with a look of bewilderment. “Wha, what the hell?” Otto asked in suprise. He moved his finger onto his back and felt a small depression and some scuffing right under the jetpack where the thud had made contact. He could see a bit of smoke rising up from his backside and a little indicator on the visor inside of his helmet showed him a yellow indicator on the back of the torso that some damage had been taken. Otto whipped his body around as he heard the voice of a stranger behind him. "Someone wants you dead cyborg, and I'm here to deliver." Otto heard the newcomer with crimson hair say, Otto grit his teeth as he got a reading of the man’s power level, and then moved his hand up to press on a release that made the helmet peel off vertically from his face. “Cyborg? Cyborg? Come on bro, I am all natural!” Otto said as he shook his helmet at the interloper. His face would look somewhat familiar to Callio, messy grey hair that seemed to naturally spike up and a gaunt face. Otto grit his teeth at the man. “Why don’t you just get in line pal? Can’t you see I am busy here?” Otto said. He lifted his helmet up and then quickly tossed it as hard as he could at Callio. His back was turned to Marautis, seemingly wanting to intimidate the rookie before he got back to work. “The zoon here is worth enough to get my bounty cleared, and i’m not in the mood to teach you a lesson, so why don’t you get out of here rookie?” Otto said demandingly. He pointed his arm cannon towards the hunter but didn’t seem to be preparing to shoot just yet. The funny thing was that Otto wasn’t that seasoned himself, having only spent about a month and some change doing bounty work. Still, he had never met this bounty hunter or heard of him, so he could only assume that he was a new kid on the block. This might be evident by the lack of attention he was paying to Marautis at the moment, he should have been paying attention to his target rather than scolding the bounty hunter who had shot at him.
