Betrayal
”Chikara? Where the hell are you Chikara?! We’re almost ready to disembark and he has the audacity to be late…?” Chikara had slept in once again, but he was not too concerned with the punishment, after all when this mission was said and done he would be the one sitting in the Captain’s chair. “By God Chikara if I have to come in there I swear you’ll be docked half your pay, now hurry it up and get ready, I have to brief every one of the mission and I won’t be speaking twice!”
Chikara was now awake and he quickly got his clothes on and entered the Captains room. “Ah, sleeping beauty, glad you could finally join us. There are certain privileges to being second in command, but sleeping past the job and taking a cut is not one of them. Don’t forget it.” Chikara was only half paying attention to Flute, instead he was again flirting with fellow Heran Yokubo. “So, after the mission, you wanna meet up later and get some drinks?” Flute slowly walked over to Chikara with a grin on his face. “Unless you want to go back to cleaning duty, I suggest you pay attention now.”
Chikara decided to cut the Captain some slack and went along with the act. “Sorry sir, won’t happen again, now let’s go over the plan, shall we?” The Captain went back to his chair and removed a piece of paper from his desk, and placed it in view of everybody. “This is the target. His name is Salvio Amator, better known under his pseudonym Ace. As you should all know, he runs a large casino complex on Earth, and we are going to eliminating him for one of his rivals, however as part of the deal, we are also able to raid his vault, containing untold spoils.”
The mind of Chikara ran wild as he thought what he could do with all the treasures Salvio had, but he tried to stay focused on his own plot. “I do hope that the plan isn’t too complicated for those of else with simpler minds, but as I said I will only go over it once so pay attention. Chikara will be our leading man, and Yokubo the leading woman. You two will enter as a couple, and be executing the most important parts of our task. Yokubo, using your, er, womanly touch, you will distract Salvio as his makes his hourly walk around the floors.”
Chikara glared at Flute, knowing he only placed Yokubo in that role because of his feelings for her, but she didn’t seem to mind. “You will have to use everything in your arsenal to distract him as I have heard he’s quite strict business man. Chikara, you’ll be playing the floor, but a little too well. I know you’re good at Poker, so I need you to clear the house. The men will eventually get the idea that you’re cheating, and so they’re going to take you in a room need the vault and ‘soften you up.’ When they take you past the vault, you will incapacitate the guards through whatever means, and get into the vault.”
Chikara glanced over puzzlingly “And how am I going to get in? Explosives?” Flute slammed his fist down on the table. “No, this is going to be done as quiet as possible. Retasu, I’m counting on you to get the codes for the vault. Whether you hack into the mainframe and get them through there or find someone on the floor who knows them, it doesn’t matter, just make sure you get them to Chikara before he gets taken to the vault.” Retasu, the resident Saiyan nodded, and gave a thumbs up to Chikara, who was too distracted with his own thoughts to reciprocate.
“Me and Kyabet will be the transport. We’ll be coming in around two hours after Chikara and Yokubo come in as pest control. The man at the floor has been bribed by me, so we’ll be able to get inside put the money inside our equipment containers, then take them back out to the van. We’ll bring an extra suite for Chikara to change into, and Yokubo, when you see us leave, get out as soon as possible.” Another puzzled look on Chikara’s face. “Hold on, if you bribed the man at the door, why not bribe everyone.” “That’s expensive, now enough talking, let’s not be late.”
Chikara approached Yokubo again, but she blew him a kiss and walked off with Flute. Retasu saw, and put his arm across his shoulder. “Don’t worry man, give it time and she’ll come around. Now let’s get ready.” Chikara’s mind was still in a million places at once. Jealousy, lust, greed and many others were playing tug of war with his mind, not a good place to be with the biggest payday of your life just hours away. He shook his head and tried to forget about that, just focusing on how good his life would be when he finally got Flute out of the picture.
An hour later and they were out the site of the heist. He and Yokubo drove together, and entered the floor as couple just as the plan described. “Alright honey, it’s show time” she said, kissing him on the check, then walking off to find her objective. Chikara tried to forget about her, and walked over to the poker table where he objective was. He went to the table with the biggest buy in, 5000 Zeni, and proceeded to clear out the house, all according to plan so far. What the plan didn’t account for was the dopey teenaged dealer who did not seem to notice the extraordinary winnings of Chikara.
“Getting mighty lucky tonight, aren’t I?” Chikara laughed, but again the dealer just shrugged and handed out the cards again. Chikara looked around and saw that Yokubo was working her magic with Salvio, and so now would be his best opportunity. He took an Ace he had in his pocket, and transferred it to his sleeve, then when it was his turn, he slipped it out of the sleeve and onto the table. Finally, now he was able to get noticed, and the dealer could for security to pick him up and take him to the back room. Two very large humans came and grabbed him by the arm and dragged him away.
Chikara was dragged past a great number of rooms, but he instantly knew he was at the vault when he saw the numpad sticking from the wall. He dug his feet into the ground and yanked his arms the control of the guards. They both turned, but were received with an energy blast from Chikara, killing them instantly. “Retasu, are you there? I’m at the vault, you gotta get me the codes quickly before anybody sees the mess I made.” Chikara waited for a few moments, but he didn’t get any response. Just then, he heard foot steps coming from around the corner, and prepared to kill.
He raised his arm in the air, and began to charge up an attack. The unknown came around the corner, but quickly dodged in fear. “Hold on Chikara, it’s me, Retasu!” Retasu had come in wearing the uniform of a dealer, and had a piece of paper in his hand. “Here, it’s the code to the vault. I’ll take care of these bodies while you get in there.” Retasu grabbed the bodies and used a keycard to access a door leading outside, and Chikara entered the security code for the vault, successfully opening it and getting inside. He gave the signal to Flute to do his part. “Alright I’m in, let’s get the pests out.”
Chikara looked around and was very surprised to see that the vault housed very little Zeni at all, only enough for regulations. Most of it was filled with Diamonds, Sapphires, Ancient Weapons and all other sorts of antiques. While looking around, he heard a sound coming from the door, and saw Flute and Kyabet enter. “Oh yeah, I forget to mention that Salvio is a massive collector. He keeps most of his fortune in assets like this rather than Zeni.” “You should have told me that before, this is going to be a nightmare to fence off.” Chikara helped Flute and Kyabet load the vault into their containers.
“Alright, that’s the lot of it, now get changed Chikara and we’ll head off.” Chikara got changed into the pest control uniform, grabbed a container, and exited the vault with Flute and Kyabet. “Where’s Yokubo? Aren’t we going to wait for her?” “She knows the plan, and she knows her job, when she’s finished, she’ll leave, just as we discussed, now stop breaking character.” The group made it outside without any complications, and they loaded the haul into the van. “What do you think we can get for?” Chikara’s head was in the clouds, and missed the question by Flute, then Retasu came with bad news.
“Chikara, are you there? Something went down, I need your help.” Chikara covered his ear and answered. “Where are you Retasu? Your job was done when you got me into the vault, you should have been at the van before we were.” “I know I know, but it’s Yokubo, her cover got blown, I tried to get to her but know they got—“ The communication went silent, and Flute demanded to know what was happening. “Yokubo and Retasu got caught, we already have the load so you ride it back, I’ll go back and get them." Flute was hesitant, but since they already had their prize, he let him go.
“Just remember, worst case scenario and I get a bigger cut, so don’t be thinking we’ll be coming back if you get your ass caught as well.” Flute and Kyabet got in the van and drove back to the ship, and Chikara went searching for his missing teammates. He still had his pest control suite on, and so told security that they had left some equipment behind. The security let him by, and he made his way back to the vault, to make sure nobody had seen the missing loot. He tried the door, and it was still locked, so he assumed that nobody had been inside since him. He tried radioing to Retasu again, but no answer.
He wasn’t very familiar with the layout of the building, and without Retasu in his ear he was blind and deaf. He tried to look inconspicuous, but entering each room one by one mustn’t have looked good on the security cameras, so he quickly ditched the slow and steady method and started rushing. He tried to detect their Ki signature, but the building was so crowded that he had difficulty detecting it from the crowd, so he kept searching manually until he finally came to a room which was guarded to two very scary looking men. “Good evening fellows, say, could you give me a hand?”
The two men looked towards Chikara, who quickly got into character. “See, this place is so big, and I seemed to have forgotten where I’ve placed my equipment, could you help me out?” The security guards looked at each other, then back to Chikara, then back at each other. “Alright, but let’s make it quick.” The two men followed Chikara around for a few minutes before getting frustrated and quitting, but that’s when Chikara made his move. When they turned their backs, he head kicked the guard on the right. His friend quickly turned, but was meet with a fist for his trouble and fell unconscious.
Chikara found an empty room and stuffed them in, before quickly running back to the room where his friend was held. He kicked down the door and found Retasu very badly beaten and handcuffed to the table. He ripped the handcuffs off with his hands and tried to wake him up. “Retasu? Are you there? I’m here to get you out, but you have to tell me where Yokubo is.” Retasu tried to speak, but couldn’t. Instead he raised his arm, pointing towards the door. Chikara turned around and saw Yokubo, but she wasn’t in danger, she was with Salvio.
“What the hell is going on here?” Salvio stepped forward, and with a grin on his face, tried to explain what was happening. “Your lovely friend Yokubo here has been associating with me for a long time, who do you think it was that gave your leader the idea? I have allowed you to steal from me so that I may get access to your group and finally stop the thievery going on in my city. Once you and your friend have been killed, Yokubo will go back to your people and say that she tried her best to stop me, but was unable to. Then, when the rest are asleep, she shall kill them too, and bring my treasure back."
Chikara was mortified, and looked to Yokubo for an explanation. “Sorry darling, but I’m afraid he’s right, maybe in another life.” Rage filled inside of Chikara, but he was also worried about his friend Retasu, and so took things one step at a time. He put his arms out on either side of himself, one pointing towards Salvio and Yokubo, the other to the wall behind Retasu. He fired both, quickly grabbing Retasu and flying out of the hole he had blown, quickly flying to somewhere safe. The group had a safe house not so far away from the casino, and Chikara took Retasu there to rest.
When Retasu was safe, Chikara quickly flew back to the casino, but Yokubo was waiting for him. When he tried to enter through the hole he left from, she tackled him in the air, and pushed him into the ground. She threw a volley of punches at him, but he was able to push her off him and get back to his feet. Chikara was not happy about having to fight Yokubo, but if he didn’t take care of her, she would go back to Flute and say he was the one who betrayed them. He charged up another blast, but missed her again, allowing her to fly up to him and attack.
She kicked him in the gut with enough force to push him across the street. He was in a lot of pain, but still got back to his feet and put his guard up, but it wasn’t enough, as she tackled him through a wall and into a dry cleaners. Chikara tried to stand, but Yokubo grabbed his head and smashed it into one of the machines. She still held onto his hair and pushed his face onto another machine. Holding his head in place, she brought her boot up and kicked his head into the machine. Chikara was quickly fading, but still tried his best to fend her off. When she tried to kick his head again, he rolled out of the way.
She turned around and tried to grab him again, but Chikara rolled once more and got out of the building. When Yokubo walked out as well, Chikara threw a car in her direction, throwing her right back in. He slowly approached the ruble to see if she was dead, but when he got too close she kicked the car off and it went straight to the abdomen of Chikara, dropping him to his knees. “Well it’s been fun babe, but I have to call an end to things.” Just as Yokubo was about the execute Chikara, a familiar energy signature approached, and fire a blast which incinerated Yokubo.
Chikara looked up, and saw Retasu offering a hand. “I told you extra Senzu beans were a must, now let’s get out of here before we cause any more trouble. This was meant to be quiet.” Chikara and Retasu flew back to Flute and explained the situation to him. He didn’t want to believe it at first, but eventually they made him come around. “Well, I’m glad you made it out, and look on the bright side, we all get an extra slice of the goods now, right?” “Yeah, about that, it’s going to take a while to value all this crap, so why don’t you leave it with me for a while?” Flute reluctantly agreed, and they went to bed.
Part Two: Fools Gold
It was now time for Chikara to execute his own plan. The loots that they had collected earlier in the day was taken to Chikara’s room, and he was tasked with valuating it and dividing it equally among the remaining members of the crew, but Chikara had no intention of doing this. He sat around and thought over the events that had lead up to this moment, he was still in shock about Yokubo’s betrayal, but as Flute was soon about to find out, no one’s a traitor, until they are. He left his room and checked out the ship, making sure that everybody was asleep, and when he was sure, he got to work.
There was a large amount of loot taken, and so this mission required a certain eloquence. In total, the weight was around 250KG, and so Chikara divided it into five 50KG portions, and moved one at a time. Flute was fascinated with old pirates that swam the seas, and so when it came to get his own ship, he designed it in the same way, despite the fact that it flew through space. The outside had a protective covering filled with oxygen, but underneath it was the real ship. Chikara’s room was located underneath the front of the ship, whereas Flute’s was directly under the steering wheel, opposite of Chikara.
In between the two rooms was a corridor which lead to each other crew member’s room, meaning that there was not a single more difficult route possible for this task. Chikara loaded up the first container, and began his slow trek across. He stayed light on his feet, and payed close attention to his peripheral vision. So far, so good, but then as he was about to make it to the Captain’s room, he heard a familiar voice call out to him. “Chikara? What about you doing out of bed, and what’s in that container?” Retasu must have heard Chikara moving, and now he had to think quickly.
“Don’t worry lad, I finished Flutes share of the treasure and was going to leave it in his room to find in the morning.” Retasu looked at him for a moment, increasing then tension and sweat in Chikara’s, then responded. “Oh, well, try and keep it down then, yeah?” Retasu went back to bed, and Chikara finished moving his load to Flute’s room. When he entered, he quietly placed down next to the bed, then he stood over Flute and thought about what he was doing. Flute had been good to him, and now he was about to overthrow him. Was this really the right thing to do?
Chikara shook away those kinds of thoughts and went back to work. The other four loads were transported without any problems, and once Chikara was finished, he needed to make it look like something went wrong. He braced himself, then took his fist and punched himself in face as hard as he could, knocking himself unconscious. Several hours later, the crew woke up, and then went to Chikara’s room expecting a share, but he of course wasn’t there. They started talking about possible treason, but Retasu defended him, saying that he had killed a traitor just 24 hours earlier.
They went to the Captains room to ask about the situation, and then came across the scene of the crime. Retasu opened the door, and as he scanned the room he first saw Zeni spread out over Flute’s body, which Chikara had done before knocking himself out. Then he looked down and saw Chikara’s body, who at this point had woken up, but feigned unconsciousness. Then he looked next to the bed and saw the loot they had taken. Kyabet and Retasu were shocked, and Oroka, another Heran who was infatuated with Chikara, began to cry.
Chikara then realized it was his cue, and stumbled to his feet. “Uh… what the?” He had a swollen eye from where he hit himself, but he was able to make up the disturbed faces of Retasu and Kyabet. “What the hell is going on? Chikara? What happened?” The noise had awoken Flute, who seemed equally shocked at the whole situation. “He did it!” Chikara tried his best to act afraid, and he cowered behind Kyabet. “When I tried to give him his share, he attacked me! He wants to take it all for himself I swear! He’s a traitor to the cause!”
Flute made a run for Chikara, but Kyabet and Retasu held him off. “You little bastard, after I take you in and raise you to second in command, you go and repay me like this? I’ll have your head!” “I betrayed you? You’re the one who attacked me, you’ve forgotten the oath, all for one and one for all!.” The crew was torn apart between the two sides, but there was no clear truth. “If I really wanted to steal the goods, why the hell would I be asleep?” The crew looked at Chikara. “You’re an old man, you probably got tired while carrying it and feel asleep by accident.”
Chikara stopped his cowering and decided it was time to take charge, like a real Captain would. “It’s clear that screaming at each other isn’t going to get us anywhere, so I propose we take it to a vote.” The Captain agreed, but would only accept a unanimous result. “All in favor of impeachment, raise your hand.” Oroka, who was deeply in love with Chikara, obviously sided with. Kyabet was best friends with Chikara, and had been personally recruited by him, and so he as well took his side. Retasu was more of a difficult case. Flute pressured for an answer, but he needed more time.
Retasu had known the Captain for as long as he could remember. Would he really betray his crew for this one-time gig? But, this was the largest hull they’ve ever had, if any con were the one to break him, it would be this one. And just yesterday, on the verge of death Chikara had saved his life when it could had cost him his own. Reluctantly, Retasu too raised his hand, and Flute was voted out of power, and into exile. Being second in command, Chikara ascended into the Captains role, and his first order was taking Flute to a maximum-security prison on planet Vegeta.
Part Three: What Goes Around Comes Around
It has been around three months since Chikara had taken over as Captain, and things were going great. The missions were coming in just as they always had, and with the money they had made from Salvio they could retire a million times over, but they weren’t just in it for the prize, they were in it for the thrill. After ascended to Captain, it was expected that Chikara would elevate someone else to second in command, but he had not done so, and Retasu was upset as he had expected it to be he who would assume the role, but Chikara had other plans.
Chikara was in bed with his partner, Oroka. She was a stern supporter of his, and they were now intimate, though Chikara didn’t care much for the emotional side of the relationship. She tried to keep him in bed, but he insisted that he had an important announcement to make to the crew, so she reluctantly got changed and gathered the other crew members to the meeting room. Once they were all seated, Chikara began. “As you all know, I have been putting of the appointment of my second in command for quite some time now, but no more, I have made up my mind."
Retasu once again got his hopes up, after all, the only reason that Chikara had become Captain was with his help, but this hope was quickly dashed away. “Before joining the crew many years ago, I had plans of leaving Earth and meeting with my uncle, Kontoro. Now with more resources at my hand, I have finally discovered his location, and after we free him, I will make him my second in command.” Retasu was bitter, but tried to stay positive. But, how could he? I mean never has someone with no experience on the ship been appointed to such a high position, it was madness.
Kontoro was located in a maximum-security prison on Vegeta. Chikara wanted to avoid a large scale war considering the small size of his crew, and luckily for him it would not need to come to that. After speaking with the commander of the prison, it turns out that Kontoro was quite the trouble maker, and they would be quite happy to accept a donation and release him, as long as he never returned. Chikara docked the ship at Vegeta, and left Retasu in charge while he flew to the prison. An hour of flying and another hour of security later and he finally made it to the cells.
“Go ten cells down, he’s right at the end, but be careful, he’s a wild one.” Chikara made the walk down the corridor, eyeing each prisoner as he walked past, but six cells down he came across something very troubling. The room was dimly lit, but he took a long look inside, and no, it was! Flute was sitting across from him. “What is this prisoner doing here?” The guard strolled over, and took a look through his papers. “The prison he was located in was shut down, budget cuts or something, so a group of them were transferred over to here.”
The guard walked back to his posted position, and Chikara started walking again, but he couldn’t, as a hand reached out and grabbed a hold of him. “Don’t think I’ve forgotten. I will never forget.” The guard quickly rushed over and sedated Flute, and apologized to Chikara. “We got a lot of ruckus going on, sounds like someone’s having fun.” The voice came from the cell on the end, and when Chikara took a look inside, it was none other than his uncle Kontoro, or at least who he thought was Kontoro, he had never seen him before. But he was the only Heran registered, so it must have been.
“Well looky here, I don’t see much of my own kind here, tell me son, what’s your name?” “Chikara, and it’s not son, it’s nephew.” A smile lit up across the face of Kontoro. “Well damn, I never thought Chuji would have the balls, tell me boy, what are you here for?” Chikara handed over a purse to the guard, who cautiously opened up Kontoro’s cell. “I’m here to get you out, I’m the Captain of a ship docked not too far from here, we do anything from theft to assassination, and I want you to be my second in command, what do you say?” Kontoro stuck his tongue out to the guard and replied “Let’s go.”
Another three months passed, and most things were going well. The crew were as rich as ever, and Kontoro and Chikara were as close as ever, but other crews felt otherwise. A gap had begun to grow between Retasu and Chikara, as the most lucrative missions were always offered to Kontoro first, and Retasu was growing tired of the nepotism which was never felt under Flute. Chikara and Kontoro were off on a two man mission, an assassination of a Human who insulted a very powerful man. Chikara successfully found the man, and murdered him, while Kontoro distracted and had the getaway vehicle.
While flying back to the main ship in their two man space pod, there was a very different mood. Usually Kontoro was very talkative, but he hadn’t said a word since the flight had begun. Before the pod landed, Kontoro charged up his Ki, and Chikara tried to stop him, but he couldn’t. Kontoro fired the beam through his stomach, and Chikara was distraught. The pod landed, and instead of trying to get aid from Chikara, Kontoro ran out screaming. “He’s a traitor! My own flesh and blood tried to kill me, somebody grab a hold of him, quickly!.”
Chikara didn’t quite understand what was going on, and before he could ask his uncle what he was doing, another unexpected pod landed. The door slowly opened, and out stood Flute, cleanly shaved and in a new suite. “I told you I never forget, and now I’m here to take back my ship.” The crew was shocked, they didn’t quite know what to do. “How the hell did you get out of prison? Who sent you?” Flute gestured to Kontoro. “Your uncle and I grew quite close while staying in prison. We created a plan to remove you from power and expose you for the lying sack of shit that you are.”
Kontoro told the crew that Chikara had tried to kill him on the way back, because he was growing too powerful, and Flute interjected, saying that he too was betrayed by Chikara, reminding everybody of the incident six months ago. Chikara found himself losing power as he debated with the two, so he once again decided on a vote. Retasu, who was still feeling betrayed, sided with Flute, as did Oroka, who had found herself a new lover in Kontoro. Kyabet was away on a mission, and so they excluded his vote and decided that Chikara was guilty.
“I’m his uncle, so I’ll take care of this.” Kontoro grabbed a hold of Chikara and took him to the back of the ship, and handed over a purse. “I do feel sorry about this boy, don’t think I don’t! But I’m afraid I’ve expended your usefulness. Take this at least, it should be enough to get you going down.” Chikara tried to fight back, but Kontoro was stronger, forcing him into the space pod, and kicking it off the edge. Chikara had lost it all, and had nowhere to go. He wasn’t sure of where to go, but remembered that he still had some connections of Earth, so he punched in the coordinates, and waited.
