One of Namek's three suns shone brightly down on the blue and green planet. Off in the distance green water remained calm in the water without a moon or other worldly things effecting it. The peaceful planet's silence was only disturbed by the sound of the gentle wind blowing through the leaves on the trees. It was a warm day, not as hot as it could be with more of the suns beating down on Namek all at once. Luckily the skin of Namekians kept them from getting affected by temperature as easily.
Coric could be found sitting underneath one of the trees on this vast expanse. His back was pressed up against the bark of the tree keeping him in an upright position. All he could see was black as his head leaned back and his eyes closed. His big ears picked up the sound of the gentle breeze that pressed his clothes against his body. Every once in a while it was just nice to get out of the light on this planet with no night.
Even as an outcast on the planet he knew he was safe so he didn't have to fully be on the alert. Nearby, as always, would be his most trusted friend, in fact his only friend at this time. Maki The Mutant Namekian, as many have called him, was one who always seemed to have his back. One of the many moments that Maki protected him is how he came to trusting the unique Namekian with his life.
The time a couple years after Coric had first met Maki. At this point in their lives they had become good friends. It helped that Maki was Coric's only real friend he could turn to. While he seemed to be Maki's only friend period. As much as Coric liked to believe that the Mazoku, despite what the rest of the history would say, were friendly and respectful there were the few that were not so nice. In fact when it came to the young Namekian's even younger friend some could be quite cold hearted and cruel.
This particular day turned out to be one that the other Mazoku clansmen felt like being heartless. Coric happened to be walking alone through the sparsely populated areas of Namek where his clan was hidden. It was far on the outskirts of Namek closer to the Northern Scar. This area was a safe haven for the Mazoku on account that it happened to be taboo for Namekians to travel here.
It was during this walk that he overheard a small group of Namekians around his age talking to one another. Every once in a while they would burst out into laughter at their on hand topic. With the heightened hearing that Namekians have been known to have he could easily eavesdrop on the conversation. "I can't believe that freak tried to play with us today. Maki The Mutant! I don't know why he still even tries at times, he should know he has no friends. He should just stay away from everyone if he knows what's good for him. He should wander off and die alone", the biggest of the group of kids declared to others. As mean as it was to say it still caused the group to burst into a fit of laughter.
He had heard this talk a lot as the years went by. It was hard for anyone to go about their personal business without the topic of Maki coming up in basic gossip. Even though it had been years since Maki was born he was still a large topic at hand. People weren't really sure what they were supposed to do with the mutant child who had no parent of his own. Usually Coric would just clench his jaw and ball up his fists trying to suppress his outrage at the fact that Maki was being treated like this. How could a group that was forced into hiding from the rest of the planet still be alright to do such a thing to someone else.
On this very day the young Namekian had finally been pushed past his limit of suppression. Stopping in his tracks he turned to the group. A false sense of confidence took over. What happened next could be described as courage by some and stupidity by others. Standing tall and squaring his shoulders he walked up behind the biggest of the trio and latched onto his shoulder quickly turning him around. "He's not a freak, and he's not alone! I'm his friend and if you keep messing with him you're also going to have to deal with me!" he shouted into the larger child's face.
Coric had no idea in hindsight why he had added in the last part of having to deal with him. At this point in time he didn't have too much experience, let along having to fight against a group. What came next proved just that point. The biggest Namekian who apparently didn't like to be touched. A sharp pain hit his chest with a thud as the Namekian shoved him causing him to stumble back. "Alright! We'll mess with you then!" the Namekian said with a smirk on his face.
From the point of getting shoved fear took over his body. He couldn't even think of any more words to say. All that was registering in his brain was that he just picked a fight with three opponents that he possibly couldn't fight along. Then a fist came striking him above his left eye causing a sharp pain in his head. Soon the ground came up to meet his as he saw purple blood entering his vision. More pain racked his body as he felt kicks being laid into his torso, arms, and legs. Finally a kick came to his face splattering blood across the ground next to him, then everything went black.
First sound came back and he heard crying and yelling. Then blackness brightened up into a blurry spinning world. Coric shook his head as he slowly pushed himself up to his hands and knees. Finally his vision settled and he looked up to find Maki standing in front of him with his back facing him. He was covered in dirt, bruises, and some blood, perhaps not all his own. One of the Namekian were running off into the distance, another scrambling and stumbling as he got to his feet to follow suit. The third was still unconscious lying on the ground. At that moment Coric had no idea if the Namekian was knocked out or dead.
It was then that Coric knew that in any situation, even one where he was outnumbered, Maki would do his best to help him. Slowly he pushed himself to his feet and staggered to a position next to his best friend. "Thank you", he muttered softly only slightly ashamed that he had to be protected. At that moment a powerful bond was forged between two friends. Who knows maybe it is one that will be written down into history.
Coric's eyes shot open and he let out a yawn. Pushing himself to his feet he raised his arms above his head stretching out his body. His muscles strained and he got that amazing feeling after a much needed stretch. "Wow, I must have fallen asleep", he said to nobody in particular. Without looking around he stepped off to go about his day.
