“Because there are people out there that do not think morally or with ethics. They will try to besmirch your name and your families name. They will stop at nothing to destroy you… Sometimes it is someone you know… sometimes it is someone that follows you inside the darkness and then appears before you.” Ninjin spoke responding to Alami’s query. As she was speaking from perceived things that were coming. Understanding it she would close her eyes as teaching the technique is something she could do but she would wait until after this bit of training to talk to Alami about possibly learning it.
She began to watch her cut the planks once more and she smiled widely. After the first two misfires she was right back at it just like before. Smiling at her as she kept watching her but the question out of the blue caught her a little off guard. Raising a hand to her chin she spoke up in response. “Bio androids? Oh I have run into quite a few over the years. A few of them are nice, a few are evil incarnate. It is a lot like normal people especially with which personality becomes dominate. It reminds of the former Crane Mistress. When I was the leader of the Turtle School my contemporary was a woman named Reikiko. She was one of the mightiest warriors in the galaxy but yet she fought for what she believed in. Until she died she always fought and I always expected her to return someday and us to have another spar. Then there was another. His name was Koramund and he fought for self interest the few times that I encountered him. Always trying to advance himself and yet it felt like there was something off.”
She would speak about the bio androids as she lowered her hands and smiled at her. IT seemed that Ninjin had a great respect for the former Crane Mistress but not of the other Bio Android mentioned. She had watched her setup the obstacles as she spoke up. The movements once she started the routine was amazing. Every motion was not wasted and Ninjin knew full well that as soon as she would actually get her school up and running she would take Alami to be a fellow master of it. The issue for Ninjin is that she needed to raise the funds needed to gain the dojo and the license.
“Well done Alami. You have an amazing fighting style. I think I could even learn a few things from you. Mostly because it is quite similar to the wolf style I have started to create on my own… It is amazing how two divergent people can be so equal at the end of the day in terms to technique.”

At least Aiami wouldn’t have to worry about any of that business with android lookalikes or clones of herself. Who would want to tear down her name? As for bio-androids, it sounded like something she had already discovered, or mostly discovered, on her own. Just like people, each one is different, and they have their own goals and temperaments. She had only met three, and only one of them had tried to kill her. Maybe that was a good sign. Regardless, she pulled her thoughts away from that for the time being, waiting to hear her teacher’s comments on what she saw.
Thankfully, she was able to beam with pride at the compliments, though she was a little surprised. While her old master had made it clear that a good teacher/student relationship involves both parties learning, when the teacher learned from the student it was about something other than the technique being taught, Aiami had found. Not that she was going to complain about the praise.
“You honor me with your kind words, Ninjin. Thank you.” She took a deep breath, relaxing her shoulders after the demonstration before approaching her teacher, an inquisitive glint in her eyes. “If you don’t mind my asking, could you tell me more about this Wolf style? I know it is aggressive and direct, if it’s similar to my own, but, ah… well, what made you start developing it? It seems very different from the Turtle style, is why I ask.”

“I am developing it as I want to combine the defensive styling and powerful counters in with an aggressive impactful fighting style. Like your style but with when I counter my body is still compacted enough to strike back as I deflect the strike away from my body. I would show you what I mean but when I use those clones damage I inflict on them can transfer to myself. Would rather not break an arm or leg and have it transfer to me. Despite the fact I have a couple senzu beans to help offset it would prefer to not use them yet.” Ninjin spoke as she moved and took a seat on the rock once more. Looking out at the splintered wood that littered the sandy beach the smile that was on her face widened. Placing a hand onto the rock she would actually jump off the rock and land on the ground and would grab a couple of the large pieces of wood and carry them over to a pile of stone.
Reaching over she began to build a traditional fire circle with the stones first and she would begin to build a fire for the two of them. Slowly she would walk around and gather up splinters of the shattered lumber tossing it into the small fire pit she had created. “I am getting hungry so lets gather up the wood, get a fire going, then gather something to eat. After that we can continue training. Is that alright with you Alami?”
No matter the answer Ninjin would have a large smile on her face as she would gather a few pieces that was left of the splinters of the lumber. Walking over to the edge of the beach she would begin to toss aside the obviously weighted clothing by the small cloud of dust they kicked up as she removed them. Turning to look over at Alami. “I am going to go fish hunting. The fire is your responsibility. Anything you want me to look for in particular for a meal?”

“I see, combining the strengths of both. That makes sense.” Aiami conceded, her question answered. She thought on that for a time, imagining how she might use a focus on counters in her own style, but she found it difficult. Then again, she didn’t have to think too hard on it, she concluded. She wasn’t the one making the style, and she was sure her teacher’s experience with the Turtle school and her ideas for the new Wolf style would come together into something excellent. The young monk was looking forward to learning the results. "Senzu bean?" She questioned aloud.
“Yes, of course, Ninjin.” Aiami nodded her head in acknowledgement. She would be a poor student were she to start defying the wishes of her master. Besides, she could use a snack, herself. She looked to Ninjin and shrugged at her question. “I don’t have very much experience with fish, or knowledge what lives where. You live around here, so I trust you to pick something good.” She beamed at the woman, before turning to attend to her task.
Settling down by the fire pit, Aiami called up a small ball of ki before guiding it into the wood splinters, letting it act as a sort of kindling. A moment later and the wood splinters were alight, burning away within the circle. For a time she walked around, gathering more chips of bark and splinters as fuel for the fire so there would be plenty ready while the fish was being cooked.
Ninjin would likely return to see Aiami meditating by the flames. She sat with her knees bent, her rear resting on the back of her feet. Her hands would be kept palm up on her lap as she concentrated on her breathing, letting everything drift away, only tearing away from her focus when she needed to add more wood chips to the fire.

Ninjin would smile at Alami as she basically had given Ninjin carte blanche to find some fish and bring them up to cook them. It would be a couple of minutes and Ninjin would emerge from the water with a pair of large fish inside her arms. Looking over at the meditating figure of her friend Ninjin shook her head and chuckled softly. Such devotion to ones craft was a refreshing thing to see for Ninjin. Mostly because she did not like how it seemed people kept appearing randomnly to claim this or claim that.
The fish were quite obviously quite dead as she moved and walked over to the fire. Grabbing two of the large sticks from nearby she looked at her. “Here you are Alami. Southern Tuna. Hold it over the fire til the scales change color and itll be good to eat.” Handing the fish over to Alami Ninjin would move to take a seat in the sand beside her. Te water glistening on her as she sat there.
“You know there is not much better than sitting on a beach. A large fish you caught in your hands and good company to talk with. Always makes you appreciate life and what all that entails. Even more after spending some time training as we have. To me you learn more about a person when you have crossed fists with them and watched them train. Their character becomes as clear as crystal.”
Speaking as she did Ninjin’s gaze fell into the fire as if she was thinking about those she had trained in the past. Faces and names flashed before her mind and she knew that maybe one or two of them were still left alive within the world as a whole. A slight sigh would escape her lips as she drew her attention back to her fish and watched as it slowly sizzled on the stick she used to hold it over the fire.

As she was stirred from her meditations, Aiami took a heavy breath and let it go slowly before opening her eyes, greeting Ninjin with a smile. She shifted on the rock, adjusting herself so she was sitting with her legs crossed, before she also skewered the fish. “Thank you! I’m sure it will be delicious.” As she held it over the fire, making sure to rotate it often to keep the heat spread evenly and properly, she listened to Ninjin with a soft expression on her face.
“That makes sense, in a way. Actions speak louder than words, after all.” She nodded, agreeing with the statement. If only watching someone fight would reveal why they fought, she thought. It had been some time since the Saiyan invasion, but even now she pondered why they had invaded Earth in the first place. Or why the vigilante she met in South City fought, or why those she met with Ninjin did. Perhaps ‘why’ wasn’t the right question. She frowned, unsure of what to make of that last thought.
Though it wasn’t long before she brightened again, realizing what she was doing. “Sitting and relaxing, as you said… it reminds me of the time I spent with my old master. Of our training sessions. We probably spent more time speaking and meditating than we did fighting or practicing technique.”
“Master Su was never very strong… in fact, for our last few sessions together before I left Kota I was stronger than she was. In terms of raw power, anyways. I could probably hit harder than her, or move around faster, but there was no way I could match her form. She was impeccable… she moved so easily, in both styles she taught me.” Her gaze had drifted toward the rock, smiling lightly as she remembered everything.
“She was wise, too… When we sat and spoke after training or meditation, she would ask questions. Just… anything. Just to watch me think and come up with an answer. And then we would talk about it.” She was silent for a few seconds before shaking her head, looking back up at Ninjin.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to gush. I don’t mean to be rude by talking about another teacher, either. I appreciate you training me, and I look forward to learning more from you, but… what you said reminded me of all of that. About how seeing someone train or fight is a true expression of themselves.” She took in a breath, only just then realizing how much she had said. “It’s something I’ll remember.”

“That they do. Always being there or not being there always leaves an impression on others. I for one remember when I helped one of my students press into an agitated state enough that he ascended into Super Saiyan status. His absence made me… rather sad as I do not know what happened to him. The one I am the most proud of was my second student. I do not know if you knew her but the Majin named Zexama was so raw and mischevious when I met her. Yet after I trained her she seemed to gain a focus. A way to continue her life along a good path. Then came my last two students an Arcosian and a Saiyan. Both I sadly failed as I could barely train them inside of all the techniques of the school before I resigned my position as I became pregnant with my children. Gleciar and Articho were the two I just mentioned. Both were natural strong fighters and I hope I had shaped them enough.”
Ninjin’s own rant would be going on as she looked into the fire and up at her Tuna over and over. She sighed as she finished speaking as she took in a breath and then exhaled.
“I heard that Gleciar was killed shortly after I vanished . Articho told me when he would come and ask for advice from me. So technically I finished his training but not actively training him. A lot like my husband who I trained on how to use every technique of the Turtle School.”
Ninjin would close her eyes as she began to listen to Alami speak about her former master. As she listened she smiled widely as the woman seemed to really of cared for them. That care shown through with the admiration she spoke about the former master with. Ninjin would understand this sentiment and what she spoke of. As she had had that a few times before she became the Turtle Hermit.
“That sounds a lot like I have had. We have had similar masters in the past. For me it is why I love seeing those I have trained getting stronger than me. As watching them surpass limits and push themselves with the technique I teach is better than training someone my own strength… As for what I said… It is something you find out as you get older and it gets easier to lie. It is always hard to hid your intentions when you fight and lock fists with someone. That is how I met and married my husband as he saw past the public face that I had thanks to the fact we sparred. He managed to woo the woman inside without so much as cracking a bad joke or making me smile. That all came later.”

“I can’t say I have heard of any of them. But they all sound like great people, and if I ever cross their path, I’ll be sure to tell them of your praises.” Aiami nodded, finding it a good sign how Ninjin spoke of her old students. It’s true that actions speak louder than words, but the way one spoke of others was often an indication of how they were, as well. What one notices and remembers about a person. Aiami found it comforting Ninjin was proud of all of her students, though she did look over solemnly. “I offer my sympathy for this Glacier. I did not know them, but if they were worthy enough for you to train, I am sure they were not only a good person, but a good student, as well.”
Aiami couldn’t help but laugh a little at Ninjin’s final words. “A reverse of the usual order, but I’m glad he didn’t forget those. Especially making you smile. My parents taught me to keep those that made me smile close, they were important.” She was speaking of what others taught her again, but those lessons learned made up who she was. And there was still more to learn, which prompted her to look to Ninjin. “I know this is just the beginning of our training, and I’m not sure if I’ll ever surpass you, but I hope one day that I can make you as proud of me as you are of your other students, at least.”
Aiami pulled her fish off the fire, testing it with her finger. It wasn’t quite done, but it wouldn’t be much longer. The scales were hot to the touch, and she could already see a bit of discoloration brought on by cooking, as Ninjin said it would be. She set it back over the open flames and kept it moving, keeping careful eye on the scales.
When they finally changed completely, Aiami set the fish on the rock and removed the skewer. She took a knife from her travelling bag nearby and cut an incision along the head, peeling the scales back and off, taking the skin with it. Steam rose off the flesh within, and when it was cool enough Aiami pulled a chunk out with her fingers and popped it into her mouth. Not as tasty as if it were seasoned, but tuna was still a rich, fatty fish with plenty of its own natural flavors, which the young woman savored as she ate.

“It has been a little while but the circumstances still bothers me but I know that he has been honored by his close friend. Though I do not know where it is that ARti has gotten off to. The sympathy however is appreciated. I think he would be thankful that someone would feel as such for him when he is a total stranger to them.” She was trying to remember exactly how her old student was and if what she said was true. As she had had so much happen to her in the intervening year since his passing.
Listening to Alami speak out about her parents and how they taught her that to keep those that make you smile close to her. To the half saiyan it made a lot of sense. That fact made the smile that sat on her face beam a little wider than normal. “If you never surpass me then you do not but Alami you are a good person. If you do good work and do things to better the world. Then you would of done me a great honor in being my student. As that is all I wish for my students. TO just go out there and make this world a better place.”
As the fish finished cooking Ninjin was not quite so proper as Alami. She brought the fish to her lips scales and all and took a big bite out of the side of it. The way she had cooked it had somehow made the scales edible. Ninjin never quite understood how these fish changed that much with just such simple ways of cooking but she never looked the gift horse in the mouth and enjoyed the taste and texture. Several minutes would pass and the food would be consumed. Ninjin would have a wide satisfied smile upon her face. “So I figure we let the food digest a little then get back at it?”

“That was what Su wanted, as well. Or, I think so… she led me to think on what I wanted to do with all of this.” She summoned a small ball of ki to demonstrate what ‘this’ was. A second later she dissipated it before speaking again. “I always wanted to just get better. I still do. I love martial arts, I have ever since I was a child. It was actually Su who inspired it, who I first saw fight. That’s why I asked her to train me.”
“But I’ll do my best, Ninjin. That’s… all I’ve been trying to do.” She took a breath and popped another chunk of fish in her mouth, chewing while she thought. The words are hard to come by, which was no surprise. She was never really had much of a way with words so she was rarely eloquent. “Ever since the Saiyan invasion, I’ve been asking myself more and more questions. I thought it would be simple when I left Kota, but it happened the day after I did, and I… I’m still trying to find my place in the world. I thought it was learning the Turtle style, but I’m not so sure that’s it anymore. And even if I did, what after?”
“I don’t know… maybe I go and see your friends at the top of that floating tower in the sky.” She shrugged, finishing off the fish and laying back to look up at the sky. At Ninjin’s question, she nodded. “Yes, that sounds good. Let the fish settle. Thank you again, for that.”

“Self improvement is where I started my journey with. That was my only goal. To try and become stronger in order to protect my family… At the time I did not know that I would have to lose them in order to truly gain the strength to protect anyone. My own love for martial arts goes back to stories my mother told me that my father had told her. About his exploits across the Saiyan Empire. Going here and there settling disputes with his fists and wit. Was almost like some bad television show or movie but I could not help but feel that connection to my father. It was not until I had my twins that I realized just how much I missed him.” Her words started off normal but became sobering as she spoke about her path and how it was laid out. So many dead be it by Ninjins hand or someone elses. She had fought so many over the years of her life.
Though her doldrum would be taken away as she heard Alami give a peppy response that she was going to be attempting to do whatever it is she could to do her best. “And that is truly all that I ask of students that I train. Just do your best and as I said. There is a chance that someday you might pass me up and keep my teachings alive. That day if it comes I know that I will of trained all those beneath my banner to the best of my abilities.”
As the topic switched to the saiyan invasion Ninjin wrung her hands lightly. She had not been able to help as she was recovering from childbirth and the loss of her strength a few weeks before the invasion took hold and began to fight. “What you seek is the one true thing everyone searches for Alami. Everyone wants to know. Where is my place in this world. Why am I here…”
As she spoke she smiled at her as she tossed aside the nicely boned carcass of the fish. “Will clean that up later. As for the friends on the lookout I do not know. I only travel up there when things seen to be happening and I have a feeling that the new Guardian might not like us trapzing across the tiled floors whenever we feel. And it is no problem at all as I have a question for you. Tell me Alami is there a specific style of techniques you wish to know?”

“Then I will improve day after day, as I have been. It’s the course I’ve been on for the past year, for more than that, even. I’ve just recently gained more focus in the past year.” She nodded, thinking back on all the wandering and travelling. It was fun, to be sure, but more importantly the time spent alone with her thoughts was useful. Not to mention how much of it had been dedicated to training. She couldn’t remember a time since owning the weights she wore she spent more than a few hours out of them.
Jade eyes lazily trailed a wisp of a cloud passing overhead as the words rang in Aiami’s ears. What was her place in this world? She wasn’t sure. She thought often of that tower, the Lookout as Ninjin called it. Perhaps there was a place there for her? They were defenders of Earth, were they not? That would be a worthy purpose, surely. But… she wasn’t strong enough. Not yet. Both physically and spiritually. She was aware of her doubts, in herself, in her place. She had to overcome them, reaffirm herself, before she could truly believe in such a cause.
“Not now, no. I wouldn’t betray the… importance? No, the… sanctity of that place with casual visits, either.” She shrugged lightly. “Besides, the children there were stronger than I was. I should at least grow a little more before I show up again.”
The student thought for a few moments on the question. “Style? No, not particularly. I prefer using my training more than any techniques, but I know the power that ki holds. Physical techniques I would be more comfortable using, but Su stressed the importance of ki blasts to me during my time in training. She had me practice a simple energy wave often.” There was a pause. “But beyond any of that, I want to know all that you would have to teach. Growing in material prowess is well and good, but I want to gain knowledge, as well."
Aiami seemed to blink, before snapping to attention, apparently aware of her tangent. “Er, the short answer is I would love to learn any technique you know. Perhaps a balanced approach today? A ki blast of some kind, if you have one to share, and a powerful physical attack.”

Alami apologies but I cannot seem to draw up much muse anymore for the thread. Apologies to you so we can end the thread here with just them going on and doing mundane training the rest of the day with ki blasts etc etc I will let you fill in the blanks as you wish.
Give me Zeni for the thread. }}
