“Your big day, huh prince? How do you feel?”
Tourit was getting his formal armor on, traditional Tayona royal armor, with a dark blue color and complete with a cape and a confident look on his face, he was certainly a site to behold. In reality, however, Tourit was more nervous than he had ever been in his entire life. Today was the day of his wedding. The day where he and Tenshi would finally be officially wed, and be able to spend their lives forever.
“I’m feeling pretty good about today. It’s a great honor to be getting married to such a wonderful woman, and to be uniting our two kingdoms together.”
“Indeed, my prince. I will leave you now, your parents wish to speak to you before you head out to the reception hall.”
“Thank you.”
The servant bowed his way out, and quickly left. King Shark and Queen Tunla came in through the same door before it even closed, smiling at their son. “We’re both very proud of you, Tourit.” Shark said, patting his son on the head. “Yes, you’ve become very mature, and a worthy successor our kingdom.” Tunla added. “It seems like just yesterday you were but a young child, still following your older brother everywhere he went and fearing the day you would have to depart for your rite of passage.”
“Thank you, mother. I feel very honored to succeed father. To be honest, I had never really prepared to be the ruler of Pashifikku. I always assumed that Haddock would take that role.” Tourit sighed and looked down, as he thought of his brother. Shark put his arm around his son and comforted him. “Haddock would be proud that his strong brother will take his place instead. Come now, we need to get you to the reception hall now, or else you might be late.”
“Late? But the reception doesn’t start for a while now.” Tourit said, looking puzzled. “Late to being early. This is the greatest moment of your life.”
Arriving at the reception hall, Tourit saw that many of the nobles from both Pashifikku and Atorantikku had already arrived, all of them dressed in their best outfits. “Wow, I guess everyone had the same idea as dad.” Tourit mumbled to himself. As he went to the front of the hall, he stood underneath the large ceremonial arch, which was decorated with an array of items. At the top were many jewels, all magnificent looking, but as his eyes scanned down the arch, the jewels started looking less and less impressive. At the bottom were different rags and rocks, all humble looking. It also looked as if two hand shaped objects that were carved in were reaching out to each other, one from the top, the other from the bottom. “They represent the balance of our kingdom.” Shark said to his son. “The rocks may not shine like the jewels, but if they were removed, the whole arch would fall apart.” Tourit nodded.
“Now look your best, all eyes are on you right now.”
The prince turned his attention to the audience to discover that they all were indeed looking at him. “Alright, all I have to do now is hope my stage fright doesn’t kill me…”
