”Alright! I think I have everything,” Pennini declared with her hands on her hips as she looked over her handiwork. She was about to go through with one of the several rituals required to raise Rubin’s old palace. Resting in the sand in front of her was a circle of smooth stones that had been bathed in a moonlit oasis. In the center of the circle was a ring from a marriage that had ended in blood. Stabbed through the ring was a single feather of a century old falcon. Finally, sprinkled over that feather were some ashes taken from a burnt willow tree. The witch looked over her shoulder to see Gete standing in the open doorway to her hut, watching closely. As usual, the small cat wasn’t bothering to comment on any of her work. He was incredibly set on not giving out any more hints than he already had. Choosing to press forward, Pennini pulled out one of Rubin’s old journals and began to chant a passage in a barely audible tone as she focused on the circle in front of her. If it worked like it was supposed to, a gilded staff was supposed to appear before her. Pennini continued to chant, watching in awe as the stones before her lit up with a vibrant red light. A small portal opened up in the middle of the circle and swallowed up the feather, ring, and ashes. Aha! This was it! However, no staff appeared from said portal as was written in the instructions. It was instead a large, clawed hand covered in green scales that reached out. ”Ah! After 10,000 years, I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!” a rather ominous sounding voice bellowed from the portal as the massive hand continued to claw at the air. ”Nope!” Pennini dropped the book, whipped out her broom, and ran over to the portal. The witch wasn’t having any of this! She began to beat the emerging hand savagely with it. ”Wrong number!” She shouted at whatever creature she had summoned on accident until the hand retreated and the portal closed up. With the crisis averted, Pennini sank down to her knees and angrily crossed her arms over her chest. ”Ugh, I knew the guy at the pawn shop was just being dramatic about the ring...” she grumbled to herself. Umpteen miles of discomfort. The sun burned furiously on his back, granules of sand beat mercilessly against his swarthy skin, and his high-speed flight did nothing to ease the searing winds as Sorrel scoured the fated "Fortuneteller's Desert." He had heard many rumors of beings with magical prowess that took up residence in the desert, though he tracked such tales as far back as several millennia ago. Still, he found himself intrigued enough to put himself through the harsh conditions. Then again, such conditions were nothing compared to what he endured as a child. It was still very annoying, but by no means unbearable.
"A witch, huh?" It was one of those things you had to say aloud just to remind yourself of how crazy you sounded. But Sorrel had picked up on a very faint scent. It was an energy signature that seemed to belong to a human. That, and some other creature, something that smelled like a zoan. At least they didn't smell like the combative type. That or, they were making an attempt to conceal themselves. Sorrel hoped for the former. It wasn't like he was scared of conflict, he just thought that such an outcome would be tedious. He had come to ask questions that his fists couldn't help him answer. Sorrel hailed from a unique tribe of Saiyans that practiced special arts similar to what Earthlings considered "magic." Then again, they would consider any ki-based parlor trick as "magic." He simply wanted to know if this witchcraft, which seemed to predate his tribe's founder, had any influence on his tribe's development.
It was not long before the faint scent became strong enough that Sorrel could pinpoint a location. His pace slackened and he soon found himself upon a hut with a strange setup before it. His eyes could make out a curious formation in the sand with a woman standing over it, like something straight out of young adult fiction. Elaborate runic patterns with essential objects laid out for what Sorrel could only assume was a summoning, though he could not wrap his head around what she might be trying to summon. He hovered in place with his arms crossed, curiously awaiting the finished product.
"Holy shit...," he murmured, eyes widening as a green claw seemed to bring itself out of the gateway. He was more surprised that she managed to open a path to something of that magnitude, even if it was just an extremity. He recalled a tale of magical objects being used to summon a giant, wish-granting dragon every now-and-then. The woman's reaction suggested this creature was no genie, as she quickly dispatched her finished product.
"Y'know," he began in a loud attempt to make his presence known while finally making his landing. "Based off the rumors, I was expecting an old hag. But you're waaay too easy on the eyes. Is this a part of the 'magic,' lady?"
Sorrel was actually curious, but he also found it hard not to approach such a skeptical practice without sounding like an asshole.

BLEGH! Atreyu spit out some sand as he was flying rather close to the ground, which cause the sand to whiz into the air around him from the energy he was putting out. Why was he eating sand? Well since he grew up in the forest, he had never actually seen a desert before, and so he decided to try and eat what this substance was. Sadly, it wasn't to his liking and assumed it was like dirt. Why was Atreyu out in the desert in the first place? He had a goal. He wanted to explore the planet and get stronger as he went. Though that's easier said than done.
As he left his home, he learned new things and noticed he wasn't as strong as he had hoped to be. By sensing ki, he could already notice energies a lot stronger than his as he set off on his journey. Though surprisingly out here,he noticed he couldn't sense any power levels. He figured nobody was out here, and even assumed it was due to this heat. Saying it was hot would be an understatement. He didn't have any water left but luckily, he was able to stay cool by flying. Flying gave him some cool winds to be in. Though the winds didn't mask the heat completely. Why else would nobody be here? Maybe because there wasn't much to look at around here, it was just sand.
Atreyu was about to give up and try to find somewhere else to explore when he felt it, though weak, he felt a power level. This only brought some questions. Why would a power level be out here, why was somebody here? As he thought about earlier, who'd even want to live at a place like this? It was hard to find water, animals for food, it was hot,and it was just a bunch of sand everywhere. This wasn't one of his top ten places to live, and perhaps not this person's either. He didn't have anything better to do so why not go to this person and just see what they were up to. At the thought of meeting somebody new, he wanted to do it as soon as he could, and so he sped up the speed at which he flew so he could get to him, or her, faster.

”Hmm hmm hmm. Perhaps you have the wrong witch if the rumors spoke of someone who looked like an old hag,” Pennini replied to the cheeky traveler that had happened upon her failed ritual, still flustered over the whole fiasco. She still had plenty of the other ingredients are her disposal to try again, but where on Earth was she supposed to find a ring from a marriage that ended in blood? It was an awfully morbid thing for her tastes, far too much for her to go out and acquire herself or even pay another to do it for her. It looked like it would be back to browsing through pawn shops next time she decided to step out.
”Then again, without magic you’d be talking to nothing more than a pile of dusty old bones. Perhaps I am that witch after all,” the woman chuckled as she moved to pick up the book that she had dropped in the sand. ”Tell me, traveler. Why is it that you have sought out this dusty old witch?” she asked, finally turning to give him her full attention.
Behind them, Gete would let out a low pitched yowl as the small cat spotted another figure in the distance approaching the hut. Pennini turned her gaze upwards to see a small dot in the sky that was slowly growing larger as it drew near. ”We seem to be quite popular lately.”

He tilted his head, wondering if her facetious tone could be taken as a confession or condemnation. She would confirm it was the former in an oddly humble tone. Well, she still sounded as whimsical as when she first spoke, but the words themselves seemed to echo a sincere yet uncharacteristic meekness. Sorrel gave her a supercilious smirk, his way of letting the woman know he wasn't a fan of being patronized. Still, she seemed transparent in her business in that she knew to get straight to the point. He raised a hand, opened his mouth, and cleared poised to speak.
"Well, you see--," he paused. His eyes narrowed as a nostril flared, hinting that he smelled something dissatisfying. Well, the smell itself was of no offense. Just another Saiyan, something he saw a lot of since arriving on Earth instead of their shaky history. Sorrel was just hoping his walk-in wouldn't be interrupted by another passerby. He really needed to learn how to hide his presence! At any rate, he would return his focus to the woman and just hope that the passerby was just that.
"I am a Saiyan. Don't worry, I won't bite unless you ask nicely." He paused and winked, because Sorrel was Sorrel and had an awful inclination towards being a flirt. So what if she had a few centuries on him? It could be a learning experience!
"But my ancestor left our home world centuries ago to live on a strange planet, where he learned... magic? I'm really just here to see if your abilities are anything like ours."

Atreyu eventually was able to pin point just where the small power level was. Though, he was still rather confused about why they were in a desert? What made this place worth living at? Why would they need to live here in seclusion? He shook his head and pushed the thoughts out. He first needed to find out just who they were, and if they were a threat or somebody that could potentially help him, help him find out what his real purpose was.
He stumbled upon the set up, of what seemed like some type of Satanic ritual, except without the lamb blood, dark room with candles, and the satanic circle but besides that it looked close enough. What surprised him most was that there were two people, yes, two, when he only felt one power level here. The Saiyan decided to make himself known by giving a wave and then speaking. "Hello!" he gave a cheerful smile, that looked rather forced.

Pennini listened as the man began his request, watching as a look of distaste flashed over his face. Was something troubling him? Perhaps he was having second thoughts about voicing whatever this request of his was, or was it because of the fact that there was another visitor approaching? Whatever caused him to stop speaking apparently wasn’t troubling enough to stop him from trying to flirt with her though.
”Yes yes, I know of your kind. You’d do well not to waste your time on pointless endeavors like offering to ‘bite’ though,” she spoke plainly. Romance simply wasn’t something she had been interested in. Any urges like that had left her the moment she had begun her life as a full-fledged witch. There were countless better ways to spend her time than to try bonding with someone like that, such as giving her hut a fresh coat of paint or watching said coat of paint dry.
As the Saiyan got to his point, Pennini rubbed her chin thoughtfully. ”I don’t recall teaching anyone any sort of magic. However, I also wasn’t the first to arrive here and take up the trade. It’s entirely possible that your ancestor had a run in with my predecessor depending on exactly how many centuries have passed.” The witch hadn’t exactly come across any notes of Rubin having any students during his lifespan, but there was still much of his work that she hadn’t even touched yet.
With a snap of her finger, a wooden bucket materialized at her side. The smooth stones that made up the circle lifted themselves into the air and were deposited into the bucket to be used the next time she would attempt to summon the gilded staff. ”Now, what kind of abilities are we talking exactly?”
It was then that the small dot that was seen in the sky earlier drew close enough to pop over a near by sand dune and wave hello to the three of them. Well... two of them at this point. Gete had already gotten bored and disappeared into the hut. It was yet another young man. Did these two visitors come here together or was it just an odd coincidence that they would both happen upon her home at the same time? Whatever the answer, she figured she’d go ahead and get her delayed introduction out of the way. ”Greetings traveler. What brings you to the lair of Pennini, Witch of the Sands?” the woman introduced herself in a bit of a dramatic fashion.

The woman certainly wasted no time in rejecting his advance, causing the young Saiyan to wince a bit. He wasn't actually serious about pursuing her, but the rejection still stung a bit. He thought of ways to avenge his damaged pride, only to dismiss those thoughts when he realized he did not care.
"You don't say?" he questioned dryly, though his sarcastic tone was a small hint of resentment for being rejected so sternly. He was well aware that witchcraft dated back several millennia, and probably existed since the beginning of time. He also understood that there were various forms of witchcraft, and that not all practitioners held the same moral compass. For instance, this woman didn't seem like one to sacrifice the living for her benefit like some witches were known for. Sorrel physically shuddered at the recollection of tales of magic salve and the cruel nature that it took to obtain the strange ointment's ingredients.
Even as she questioned the nature of his abilities, he had already formed the opinion that his theory was likely invalid. Or that, if his ancestor had come into contact with witches, then they were of the malevolent variety. His hand waved as a dark ki circled around it before departing it in the form of a sphere. The transparent black seemed to lose its opacity immediately as a gel-like shine reflected off of its surface. The substance undulated as if it were trapped between a solid and liquid state. It began to convulse violently, shaping into a completely black rose. If anyone reached for it and wasn't careful, she may have found herself pricked by a thorn
"Well, one thing we can do is create something from nothing." Although he had already concluded that the origins of her powers held no ties to the origin of his, Sorrel was still curious. There was no harm in seeing where their abilities overlapped.
Sorrel's eyes bore down on the newcomer with a mild hint of contempt. It was nothing personal, he just didn't like to be interrupted. As the witch gave her grand introduction while addressing Atreyu, Sorrel simply folded his arms across his chest and awaited the other Saiyan's response.

As Atreyu came into view, he noticed that he was expected. Well he wouldn't keep then waiting as he descended down upon them. He thought he'd be surprising them but, as he assumed, he was actually expected before hand. Maybe when she said witch, she wasn't lying. He first studied the two of them, one seemed rather disappointed but he ignored it. He then turned his attention to the female, at least he thought it was a female, who knows what kind of strange things were out there. Well, looks can be deceiving. "What brings me out here? Nothing really. Just exploring, doing whatever."
He scratched at the back of his head some as he kept switching his gaze between the two of them. He figured he'd interrupted some kind of conversation but it wasn't like he actually cared. "Here's a question, why do you choose to live in a desert? It kinda sucks here. I mean it's even worse than the forest. Though the forest is actually pretty nice so that isn't saying much." He directed this at the so called witch.

While still facing the newcomer, Pennini watched the first Saiyan as he formed a rose out of some sort of dark energy. While she could also conjure up objects, the witch’s methods seemed to be much simpler and straight forward. Either way, she would get back to that in a moment. ”I suppose a random explorer may not see it as much more than an oversized sandbox, but the desert isn’t that bad of a place to live assuming you have the right abilities to take care of yourself out here,” she answered casually. She then took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. The witch snapped her fingers and summoned an ornate, wooden, circular dining table out of thin air along with three comfortable chairs. A second snap of her fingers conjured up two glasses of ice water near two of the chairs. ”You see, I also possess the ability to ‘summon something from nothing’,” Pennini remarked as she tossed a glance at her first visitor. The woman then took a seat in the one chair that didn’t have a glass next to it and motioned for the men to follow suit. ”Feel free to have a seat. Just because I’m a witch doesn’t mean I don’t know how to treat my guests. Besides, I’m still plenty full from the last wandering soul that I boiled in my cauldron.” A sly smile crossed her face at the joke she had just made before she snapped her fingers for a third time to summon up her usual tea cup filled with Earl Grey in front of her. ”Now,” she began after taking a sip of her tea. ”Did this anscestor of yours have any other magical abilities?”Sorrel
