The sun had just barely reached its highest point in the cloudless sky over Fortuneteller’s Desert. The wind was calm today, which meant things were quiet for the most part. It was the perfect day for a cat to sunbathe, which was exactly what Gete was doing on the roof of the hut he shared with Pennini. The small black cat was looking forward to being undisturbed for the next few hours at least while the predecessor of his former master engrossed herself in Rubin’s notes and slaved over her cauldron. However, that was cut short when thick, asparagus green colored smoke began to pour out of every possible crack and crevice of the wooden shack.
Pennini burst out of the front door with a large book clutched to her chest, coughing violently and waving her hat in front of her face to try to keep the fumes out of her lungs. Leave it to Rubin to have such horrible penmanship that it was difficult to differentiate ‘bat hair’ and ‘rat hair’ of all things... Now not only did she have to scrap that last batch, but she had to wait until the shack aired out before she could even reach her cauldron again!
Still vigorously using her hat to fan the smoke away, she heard a condescending sigh in her head. ’What did you do now?’ Gete’s voice rang out in her head. She shot the cat on the roof a stern look and shook her head. ”This one isn’t my fault. You can blame Rubin’s chicken scratch,” she grumbled back at him. ”Speaking of that geezer, what is the deal with his instructions?! According to his notes I have to finish this potion, let it rest for three days and then use it to create another potion. THEN I have to bottle it and wait exactly twenty four hours down to the minute before adding a strand of my hair and shaking it until the liquid turns into bright blue smoke? What possible reason could he have had to make this so complicated?”
Gete continued to look down at her from the roof with his usual bored expression before wordlessly curling back into a ball and continuing with his sunbathing. Pennini felt her eye twitch as the little furball didn’t even bother giving her an answer. She had almost forgotten that after he had taught her the ropes, Gete had developed a severe allergy to being useful. Lucky her...
Pennini sighed and continued to fan at the smoke. There honestly wasn’t much else for her to do since she could return to her work until the billowing mass cleared out of her home and she didn’t feel like travelling. To make matter’s worse, it was starting to smell like sulfur. Joy!

That Sulfer smell was one that caused interest in one Demoness, whom had been passing by on her way to a village not too far from the desert. Xanara made her way towards the smell, following it as she was reminded of home. How she hated the demon dimension, but the smell, oh she loved it. The Charcoal skinned demon stood out like a sore thumb in the desert. Where all one could really see was sand, a single figure of black would stand out rather considerably.
As Xanara neared the hut she noted the woman and the cat. A smile crept over her face. "No way." She muttered. "Did I just find a witch?" She brought a hand up to her lips and giggled softly before shaking her head. "That is adorable... I didn't even know humans had the capacity for magic."
She hurried her steps along and soon came to stop but a few yards away. "Good Afternoon~!" She called out. "Please do pardon my intrusion into your... Property?" she shook her head. "But I followed the smell of Sulfur and thought I'd come on over for a-" She shut her mouth thinking for a few moments before speaking up again. "A curious look about." She giggled softly before smiling wider. "I'm Xanara Redhive by the way." She'd curtsie for a moment before holding her staff tightly. "Who might you be?"

The desert was a hot, dangerous expanse of swirling sands and troublesome creatures. Fortuneteller Desert was no exception. Yet despite this, Denim made her way out of West City in her space ship and headed straight for the place. The reason being that it was highly rumored witches and magical beings who could see the future lived out here. So far though she had flown for over an hour and had yet to see anything that looked like a witch' abode no matter where she looked from the seat in front of her ship's main window.
"I can't believe this..." Denim sighed gripping the control panel of her vessel with her fingers tightly. "I really was hoping to find one because I have important questions to ask."
Suddenly, she saw a hut in the middle of the expanse. She thought her eyes were playing tricks on her but when she looked closer at it noticed an odd green colored smoke wafting from it. "I better land here and find out what's going on. There aren't too many people in the desert so maybe they know where the place I'm looking for is?"
She'd land her ship on the other side of a dune before stepping out of its hatch and heading across the desert. She'd see a black figure standing in the sand along with another person fanning the smoke before her. Denim with her pale white skin, gravid figure, and usual attire of a red vest, yellow t-shirt, and white shorts with green sneakers was the least suspicious or strange of the trio currently.
"Hello!" she cried hoping to get their attention. She waved her hands in the air as she crossed the sands in order to make them realize she was there. "I'm looking for magical beings to answer my questions!"

’We have company...’ Gete sleepily murmured into Pennini’s thoughts as the demoness approached them from over the sand dunes. The witch perked up and tossed a glance over her shoulder, spotting the ebony skinned figure right away with how she contrasted against the bright blues and golds that surrounded her. A demon, huh? It was an unusual sight to say the least. Most of Pennini’s visitors consisted of humans, ragged from the harsh climate they were attempting to cross through and in dire need of nourishment. A demon likely wouldn’t be as susceptible to the teasing that she usually indulged in, but it was a welcome distraction nonetheless.
”And a good afternoon to you as well, Madam Demon. Welcome to my humble abode,” Pennini spoke with a quick dip of her head, trying to ignore the green smoke that was still pouring out of said ‘humble abode’. ”I am Pennini, Witch of the Sands. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Lady Xanara.” The witch briefly wondered if the woman had any nail clippings she wasn’t using as she looked her over, but quickly decided against inquiring about it. No, no... That would be rude.
Before she could deny the demon’s request of entering het hut(it was a bit of a mess at the moment), another visitor was spotted trekking across the sands in their direction. This one appeared to be human. Two visitors in a single sitting? That was unusual to say the least.
”Greetings traveler,” Pennini spoke to the newcomer with a sly smile. She was trying not to laugh at the comment that the girl was looking for ‘magical beings’, seeing as how she was garbed in a traditional witch getup and the fact that Xanara was clutching a staff that was far too tall and ornate to be an average walking stick. ”Magical beings, hmm?” the witch asked while playing dumb. Hopefully the demon would be the type to play along.
Pennini raised her hand above her head and snapped her fingers. A trio of Absolom Roche chairs that were upholstered in a wine red colored velvet appeared in a loose circle next to the group. The woman took a seat and motioned for the other two to follow her lead. Just because her home was inaccessible to her at the moment didn’t mean she could properly receive guests. After placing the book on her lap, she snapped her fingers again and a small tea cup and saucer appeared in her hand, which she began to sip from daintily. She did love her Earl Grey... ”Do either of you have a beverage of choice I could get you?”
While giving the two women a chance to think about what they wished to be served, Pennini turned her attention back to the human. The sly smile still hadn’t left her face. ”I’ve afraid I haven’t seen any of these so-called ‘magical beings’ around here. I hear they find questions awfully troublesome though,” she answered with a light chuckle before taking another sip of her tea.

Xanara smiled as the Witch addressed her. She nodded her head. "So kind." She spoke. "Not every day I meet a human whom doesn't go running in terror because of my appearance." She giggled to herself. "A pleasure Mistress Pennini. Or would you just prefer Pennini?" She asked. Their little conversation seemed to be interrupted as another arrived. The female seemed to be human, but there was something about here. Xanara couldn't put her finger on it. Upon the request for answers from magical beings Xanara had been about to speak when Pennini spoke up for her.
A snicker came from the demoness as Pennini spoke with Denim before chimed in. "I don't think I've seen any magical beings around lately. Not a one." She twirled her staff around in her hand for a moment before taking a seat in the chairs that the Witch had summoned. "They are so very rare you know. Magic is a touchy subject after all."
Her head turned to Pennini as the offer of a drink came. "Wine Please. Red preferred." She'd wait for her drink should it come. Xanara snickered once more when the witch spoke up once more and Xanara nodded along side her words. "Oh yes. I've heard the same rumors." She nodded. "I heard that witches cast hexes on wanderes who badger them with questions." She brought up a hand to her chin and tapped it. "And demons... Oh they are not nice in the slightest. They'll eat your children..."

While the two ladies before Denim sat down to drink tea Denim listened to their comments, even as both Xanara and Pennini summoned a long staff and tea set respectively from out of nowhere. "I-I really need to see a magical being," she told them in a flustered state, "even if they eat my children or try to hurt me, or even if it's just a touchy subject because I must know a little of my future." She had heard Xanara's snicker slightly before responding with this and even though that made her uncomfortable as well she tried to hold stead fast standing before them.
She realized she forgot to answer Pennini's question on beverages and quickly said, "Milk or water is fine I can't drink alcohol anymore." She spied Xanara's wine glass in her hand and really wished she could thanks to the small frustrations in her life but she knew that might harm her child. Nonetheless, with these things answered she sat down in the nearest seat still available and smiled at them.
"My name is Denim, so sorry about not introducing myself before, but I am a traveling warrioress and small rumors of witches and other things brought me here. I may not look it but based on what I can feel here I am the strongest out of the three of us." She told them blandly. Her legs crossed over one another in her chair.

Who on Earth would pick milk as their beverage of choice under the hot desert sun? It would surely curdle in seconds in weather like this. Pennini decided to go with the human’s second option, as she didn’t need the smell of sour milk mixing with the smell of sulfur that was already permeating the air. She snapped her fingers again and a drink appeared in front of each of her guests. A stemmed glass filled with red wine for Xanara and a tall glass of ice water for the one who introduced herself as Denim, both levitating in the air until the one who requested them reached out and grabbed them.
Pennini smiled as she listened to Xanara’s comments about demons and witches. Excellent. It was indeed a relief that the demon who had happened upon her home knew how to have a bit of harmless fun. Though, it would seem that the human in their company wasn’t quite catching on. She spoke of how important it was to ask these questions and glimpse into her future it was, but she had yet to actually ask anything. Was she really not getting that she was sitting in the presence of not one, but two of these magical beings that she was so convinced that she needed to find? And here Pennini had thought that their appearances and making things appear out of thin air would have made it obvious...
The witch shot a quick glance over at the demon and gave her a shrug. She wondered if Xanara was finding the human’s behavior as amusing as she was. No matter... Demin would figure out sooner or later if she was truly that desperate for assistance. Pennini certainly wasn’t going to spoon-feed her the answer that yes, she had indeed found beings that were capable of magic. ”And quite the warrior you must be to be willing to brave terrible hexes and devoured children to gain the wisdom that you desire. However, practitioners of magic can be awfully sneaky. How will you know one when you find one? Surely you’ve given it some thought.”

"Oh why thank you." She said softly to Pennini as her requested drink appeared. She took a sip and sighed softly. "Just what the doctor ordered. Delicious." Her attention would return to Pennini as she spoke about her need to speak with magical creatures. She hadn't caught on that they were messing with her? Oh well, it meant more fun for the both of them.
And of course Denim brought up the strength thing. That was never really important, but it always seemed to peeve her whenever someone brought it up. Xanara rolled her eyes and sighed softly before hearing Pennini's words which caused her to smile. "Oh yes what she says is right." Added Xanara. "They can be quite sneaky, sometimes even downright nasty. I've also heard that demon's don't do anything for free either!" She snickered to herself.
"You'd have to make it worth their while...."

Denim reached for the ice water and smiled at the witch and her golden eyed acquaintance. She listened to their words while absorbing that information as much as possible. A smile came over her face during the point grabbed her water from midair and sipped it. She then began to answer them after Xanara drank her wine, "Let me start off by saying I'm sorry I suggested you get me milk. I thought we might be going into the small place behind this table to cool off. That or, the desert heat has gotten to me only after a few minutes of being out here. I came in my space ship to the desert but I'm certain of things and that is that I feel I can find a demon or witch by sensing out what's called power level. A thing that exists in all beings. The problem is, like has been said, 'How will I know I've found one?' That's really hard to say since my skills in that are just at the basic level of power sensing." She explained.
She set her glass down on the table top the laughed at the demoness' words on demons not doing things for free. "I, of course, don't expect a witch nor a demon to actually tell me I've found them but I'm not so stupid to see that one of you or both of you are these kinds of beings. The water's been floating here in the air a few seconds already and the table and some of these other things appeared out of nowhere. I assume one of you is using some form of magic to make it happen. So... Will either of you help me answer a question?" She asked once again.
Her body rose from her chair allowing her belly to be fully on display. She'd raise up her yellow shirt slightly, revealing her navel, and place her right hand over it before saying, "As you can see here, I am pregnant. I came out here though because the future of my pregnancy concerns me slightly. I don't care what gender my child is but when I became pregnant I found myself trapped on a barren planet. I'm not sure where it was, however, only one being lived there. He was a mercenary and a cyborg named Plaid and to escape the planet he offered to rebuild our broken ships into a new one in order to do so. He would only do so though if I kept him as intimate company. Sadly, he died from the poisonous gas there a little while after, or his power supply in his chest completely failed him. Anyway, I found after I left there in our ship that I was pregnant. Now, what I really need to know and want to know is if this child within me will be a human or an android though because I'm not sure what I'm going to do if it's an android. I don't know much about them after all." She explained this in the fullest detail that she willingly offered and hoped that if either of them truly had magical powers that they might listen to her and help her. It had taken all of her courage to come here after all since she was stuck currently in a rut with being on bad terms with her parents and a few other people here and there.

”Table?” Pennini repeated curiously. ”You may be right about the desert heat getting to you. I have summoned no table.” Hopefully Denim wasn’t delirious from her travels or whatever it is she needed help with. The only things Pennini had conjured up were the chairs and the drinks. It also may have blinded her to the pungent green smoke that was still billowing out of her home, since she thought they would go cool off in there. Odd girl...
As she explained sensing power levels, Pennini’s eyes narrowed as she noticed the girl leaning forward to place her glass on this imaginary table of hers. A fourth snap of Pennini’s fingers quickly materialized a small end table beneath Denim’s glass before it could fall and splash over the sand beneath her.
The witch let out a laugh when Denim finally declared that she knew that one of them was magical. ”I suppose it’s a relief that you’re not blind after all. I can’t speak for Xanara, but fixing that would be far beyond the realm of my expertise,” Perhaps now she would stop dancing around the issue and get to whatever the heck it was that she was seeking magic to aid her with. Just because she had far surpassed the average human lifespan didn’t mean that she had unlimited time or patience.
The woman observed as Denim rose from her chair and displayed her belly to the both of them, showing that she was currently with child. Pennini briefly considered making an offhand comment about how she had thought ahead and brought payment if it was the demon’s assistance that she sought, but decided to sit back and let her speak. She listened intently as Denim explained her circumstances. She had apparently been through quite a bit, including space travel and... possibly unwanted intimacy? That possible can of worms wasn’t up for debate, so she wasn’t going to think about it too hard.
What WAS up for debate, however, was something Pennini hadn’t expected anyone to ask her in a million years. ”Did... Did you just ask...” Pennini tried to get her words out while fighting off a fit of laughter, but this was one fight that she had absolutely no chance of winning. ”Ahahahahaha!!! That’s too rich!!!” she threw her head back and clutched her stomach as she cackled wildly at the question that was presented. At least the uproar didn’t last for too long, as the woman quickly caught her breath and wiped away the tears that were forming in the corners of her eyes.
”Hoo... I’ll tell you what, Darling. I’ll make this one a freebie because you gave me such a good laugh,” she began, still chuckling at the nature of the question. She looked over to Xanara as she spoke, hoping that the demon wouldn’t be too miffed at being denied payment for this one. Seeing as how the answer could have been found by anyone looking at a biology book, she figured it would be fine. ”Denim, androids can’t have children like that. They’re mechanical, not biological. They wouldn’t have any genetics to pass on to aid with a child’s formation. Your offspring is going to be human. Well... that or half human and half whatever race this Plaid person was before he was augmented with cybernetics.”

Xanara looked to Pennini as she spoke, snickering about the table. " You know its hard to see things with the sun baring down on you. Don't be too hard on her." She said softly before taking another drink from her glass. When Denim finally explained that they were infact magical in origin she laughed before shaking her head. "Nooo really?" She asked. "Whatever gave you that idea?"
She'd sit back in her chair letting out a happy little groan as she got comfortable. She'd listen to Denim's story before shaking her head. "Oh I can't help you there. I don't even know what an android is... Suppose thats my fault for only recently coming out of the demon realm." She shrugged before looking to Pennini as she explain. "Oh!" escaped the demoness as the witch explained before crossing her arms.
"Oh mechanical. Well it doesn't take a genius to figure out that wouldn't work at all. What Pennini says is true. Though I don't know why you come to Magical beings with such a stupid question. You would waste our time with boring questions that you could of asked a human doctor." She frowned and swirled about the wine in her glass. She shook her head and sighed. "And I didn't get anything from it either... For shame..."

Denim quickly sat down upon hearing Pennini's words and her laughter. She felt embarrassment flow through her body as her face became even paler then normal. Listening to the witch's laugh was a little nerve wracking since she'd not been laughed at like this in a long while. She realized that her naivety was coming out far more then usual and even the demoness across from her seemed to agree, especially as she said things like, "You would waste our time with boring questions that you could of asked a human doctor."
Both seemed right in their perception of the situation but to Denim she felt like she was asking a legit question only they could help her with. She decided then to ask something different, even if it cost her zeni later to have an answer, "I-I guess then if you find that question stupid I want to know can either of you either help me earn Zeni magically or make me grow stronger in an instant? I only have so many months I can earn new income now or increase my overall strength so I want as much as possible of either or both to help myself and my child."
She smiled hoping this was a question they could help her with then suddenly raised her left hand in a moment of haste, "Or scratch that actually! Please, if either of you can teach me something that is only unique to a magical being such as yourselves. I want that kind of special help instead so that maybe I can give my child a leg up in the world in a way that's different from my fellow martial artists!"

”Yes, indeed. It may have been a few centuries since I was last integrated into human society, but walking into any doctor’s office sounds like it would have been a far simpler solution. I’d imagine things wouldn’t have changed that much,” the witch echoed the demon’s comment while watching the color drain from Denim’s skin. Did she feel bad for embarrassing the poor thing with such an answer? Not at all. The most effective way for someone to learn was to face their foolishness head on.
Pennini leaned forward in her chair and delicately rubbed at her right temple one the new string of requests came forth. Why did so many people think that she had the ability or desire to just ‘magic’ their lives better? It was never that simple. It didn’t help that the request was incredibly vague to boot. The witch let out a sigh, took another sip of her tea, and began to speak again. ”I am no teacher, nor can I just bestow you with some random spell that will improve your lives in unspecified ways.”
The witch paused, having come up with an idea. She fished into the pocket of her dress with her free hand and pulled out a small, intricately decorated box of chalk. The box levitated its’ way over to Denim until it came to float inches away from her face and would stay there until the woman grabbed it. ”Here. I present to you this box of Mustache Chalk. May your child always have impressive facial hair that will awe those around them, or something like that...” Pennini spoke with a shrug of her shoulders. That likely wasn’t the sort of help that the woman was looking for, but that’s what she got for not being specific. She needed to get rid of the stuff anyway since she kept finding box after box all over the basement. What did an old wizard need with so many sticks of chalk that grew facial hair on your upper lip anyway?!
Either way, as far as Pennini was concerned, she had already filled her ‘good deed’ quota with the strange woman. She took another sip of her tea and looked over to the lady demon next to her. ”What about you, Xanara? Do you have anything up your sleeve that might assist this expectant mother?” Hopefully this would give the demon the chance to get something out of this encounter. She had looked a bit down when Pennini had answered the last question for free.

"I've only been on earth a couple of weeks and even I know it would of been better to seek medical attention." she said with a frown. "Honestly, if I wasn't trying to make friends I'd probably call you a name..." Xanara sighed shaking her head. "You know what, I'm going to do it anyway. I'm afraid Miss Denim, that you are quite stupid. Not only have you wasted my time, but also the time of Pennini."
Xanara rolled her eyes as Denim kept speaking. At this point it was less funny and she was more annoyed than anything. "SO what your asking for is a handout? Because Demons and Witches are so very generous..." She narrowed her eyes before looking to Pennini, who so graciously gave The other human a hilarious gift. Xanara's hand instantly went to her mouth, where she began to crack up. After a few moments of that she calmed herself.
"I have one thing up my sleeve but I doubt she'd like it..." She said. She held up a hand, clawed finger pointing at Denim in a lazy fashion. There was a sudden twinkle of dark purple right at the end of her claw. "I could always just rid you of the pest. That is the only thing I'd do for you without payment..." She smiled, baring those sharp little teeth of hers. "Other than that I can only give you advice, but you have to pay for that. Cold hard Cash."

Denim's hands began shaking while sitting in her chair. At first, she was shaking out of rage over the fact that Pennini was giving her some kind of mustache formula. Then she shook out of fear over Xanara's comments about the only gift she might be worth of is "Getting rid of the pest," at least that's what Denim clearly understood in her own words. She still reached for the hair formula and coveted quickly into her breast before pocketing it in her pants.
"I really... Really.... Don't know what to say..." She told them both in her moment of lost words. She could react harshly to both of them but Pennini had shown her at least some level of kindness and she figured Xanara's attitude was partially the way it was because of her and the demoness' own demon tendencies.
"I want to say now thanks, but I'd like a little more from Xanara out of this. I'd, um be willing to pay I have the Zeni to do so. I don't know the gender of the child yet the but the gift of mustache hair is appreciated." She turned to Pennini and gave her a weak smile before pulling out the box box briefly, looking down at the box and reading on the side of it, "Mustache Chalk, the Ultimate Formula for Facial Hair! Note: If a Woman, this product will cause Extreme hair growth on one's scalp. We are not liable for nearly unbreakable Rapunzel Length hair."
Denim could not believe what she was reading at first, however, she realized this was an extremely potent chemical or magic so this was to be expected. She pocketed the box once more then allowed her smile to fade before reaching deep into her pockets and yanking out a giant wad of cash.
"Here is 3000 Zeni if you both are willing I will pay you 1500 Zeni each for your services now and I expect to see what I can get from Xanara from this." She stated now eyeing her with a look of strength. She stood slowly and placed the cash on Pennini's table hoping this did not spoil the mood like she was beginning to think her other words had.
