Jeanne remained for a week on the planet Kanassa. In that time, she managed to wake up and find the ship she had been staying on with Plaid had tipped over. Together though they stepped out of the ship and flipped it right side up with their bare hands over the next few days. It was at this point the lilac woman noticed something odd about the mercenary Plaid. Not only was he kinder then initially expected but also somehow weaker now too. She began noticing it after they flipped the ship he seemed to move slower than usual as he walked around the base of the hull and inspected it.
“Are you all right?” she voiced as she followed him with her clear, blue eyes one day.
He gazed deeply at the ship’s silver plating and muttered, “No, we’re still trapped here and frankly I don’t have much time left.”
“Huh?” Jeanne responded in confusion to this answer.
“I landed on this planet at a bad time. The people of planet Arcose may be switching who runs their empire soon, and to top it off the place I landed, unlike you was a bad area to land here.” He explained. Denim still did not know what he meant as she approached him and watched him do something very sudden. He opened up his chest and revealed a glowing blue orb surrounded with wires.
“What-what are you a robot?” she stated as her face paled. She stepped back and he nodded yes as he looked at her then proceeded to say that he was built off that world but made specifically to handle weapon shipments for that world, unfortunately, because he landed on the desolate planet of Kanassa with her he was now slowly running out of power.
She stepped in once more to take a closer look at this fact and observed that within the glowing blue orb was a blue liquid that only filled the bottom third of his heart’s energy source. She poked it and it slightly deflated before she uttered, “This is weird but it feels like a real heart and it looks to be only a third of the way full.”
“It is… In addition, as a robot, er android, I cannot be without it. ” Plaid told her now blushing and shutting the panel on his chest. It usually is all the way full of that cooling agent you see, however, I’ve used a lot of energy to pull my original ship out of a poisonous hole filled with the gas from world.” He huffed as he turned back to the ship, lifted up a metal plate on the ground at his feet and set it in the ship’s frame. Then uttered, “I’m glad I’m I’ve been with you all this time but it’s likely I’ll die soon due to that storm knocking over our ship anyway, if anything good comes out of this I’ll at least save you and that little fling we had will be a good a final memory.”
“What?” Denim thought as she stood there now finding tears rolling down her eyes. He was not such a bad person to wish this but why would he say that leaving this weird place was not possible for him? He still had plenty of power left.
She grabbed the back of his shirt and stated, “You’re not going anywhere… If that fling we had means anything to me it means I might decide to stay with you the rest of my life, and-and if I have a child like you seem to have wanted well then it needs someone besides me to help raise it.”
Plaid could feel her whole body on his back now and answered under all the weight, “I’m sorry but I’ve begun to notice as I grow weaker you’ve grown stronger. You might not sense it but you are at least within sixty percent of my own power. Do not squander it here, get in the ship and go back to Earth. I’ll be happy to know you’re alive and if you have a child that they are too.”
He suddenly flipped her over his back after this causing her to scream and carried her into the ship in his arms. The ship had been finished again after the small delay of it ending up knocked over; she could see it as she went by it with him. She wanted to cry some more but wiped her tears stating, “Okay, I guess I’ll live on, I have to finish a book about martial artists anyway and plan to get stronger. If I have a child, though from you there is no way I am telling them about you. It’d be too painful and frankly embarrassing for them to know that to escape a planet I had to spend time with a thug like you.”
Plaid chuckled then stated, “Just be sure to give them a good name like… Launder…”
Jeanne growled and uttered, “I’m more of person who leans towards a good name like Skirt, something that isn’t work force related.”
Plaid sighed then tossed her into the seat they had shared before stepping out. “Oh well, good luck, and if anything doesn’t come of it that’s fine. I’ll always be a good memory I hope.” With that he hit a button within the two-seat ship and stepped out the door just as the ship’s engine started up. Denim scurried over to the window surprised he was actually going to do this and pressed her entire face against the glass. She watched him wave up to her as the ship smoothly rose into the air and before she knew it he slowly became a dot on the ground.
“NO!” she screamed suddenly finding as she reached a higher elevation that the area he was in was yet again to end up covered in purple gas. He was not going to make it without a ship and ye they had used all the parts in both ships to make this fine new one. She slammed the window of her brand new vessel then frantically ran over to her ship’s dashboard to input codes. No matter what she did though, she could not rewrite his instructions for the space ship I had written into its coding “Go home to Earth!”
She slammed the console with her hands knowing she was very weak, luckily, she did not break the thing as she sat down in the pilot’s seat and sighed. She would have to keep on living for her to justify his kind acts. As she did, she noticed that a huge sack of cash was under her buttocks and pulled it out from under her. It read on a tiny note attached to it, “Loan money… Use it wisely.” There was at least 2000 zeni inside and enough to warrant her ownership of this ship.
She smiled and uttered, “For a mercenary he kind of stunk. Who acts this kind to someone yet pretends to be evil? The only bad thing he did was give me everything I might have wanted.” And so, with that Denim returned to Earth prepared to see her family again but not before one small thing and that was to stop and register the ship she was in under her name.
The problem though was what she would call the ship if she wanted to give it a name. She thought about it long and hard though and when she narrowed down her list decided that “Rescue” was a fine name for this small vessel.
